Although, when CR said "a wood duck carving", I thought he meant a carving of... a wood duck

...so I was even more confused.

Don't feel bad, on my first reading of it I read woodchuck!

"BIG stretch" "you're the only one who was able to to see it" Ya I know Wassy.

At some point when I was learning to recognize shapes someone probably handed me a wooden duck and that configuration of basic shapes in that pattern stuck, people who don't share that memory wouldn't see that pattern. I'm not used to seeing the underside of a heeled boot so I saw wood duck instead.

Most everyone I find myself surrounded with in RL are not creative types and never "see" what I do, they don't notice things that stand out like a neon sign to me... for all intents and purposes they are oblivious to their surroundings.

I go to the movies with a group of people, and while I don't talk during the movie (hey I don't want to go to the special hell unless YoSaffBridge and her mythical book are involved ) afterwords I'll say "you know that beer bottle up on the shelf in the men's room disappeared for a few seconds and then reappeared" or "hey Wash's hands were empty when he was supposed to be holding the ships yoke in that scene"... no one ever believes me but later when the DVD comes out they see of course that is exactly what happened... their usual response? Yeah so? Sometimes it's like I'm forever defending my view against people who can't see crap even after I draw them a picture (except that most of them don't care for my art either so I never actually show them anything I draw)... it's frustrating and saddening all at once.

Sidenote: I need new people.

I sometimes wonder why I bother to point stuff out at all but then I'll get a PM from an artist that reads "good call man I would have never spotted that in a million years if you hadn't said something ...thank you" and I realize well hey at least some people online appreciate it. Even if I have to post a diagram sometimes at least some people here will see what I "just see"... with that I am content.
/end rant

Dunno Johhnykat sometimes I see strange shapes in the clouds, most of the time I see... clouds.
I've not done a Rorschach test lately so who knows...

P.S. the tea leaves say you shouldn't go outside next week.

Seeing the toy duck next to the part of the image you mean I suppose I can see how one could make the connection... But I think it's a big ole leap.

But then again, some people are better on drugs than not
No worries Caemgen I'm used to being the only one that sees nonsense like this. *shrug*

Although I do see bewbiez... like, a lot (seriously they're everywhere ) so your kinda missing out. Heh.

Heh, sometimes CR I think you are a tightrope walker... Because sometimes you sounds like you're treading a very thin line between pompous and whiney But it's amusing to watch so we luvs ya anyway!

But seriously... I think it's become apparent you spend more time looking at each and every nook and crannie than the average joe, that your weird, twisted brain latches onto minutia... So would seem only expected that when your crazy cranium doesn't recognize something it searches for some odd thing that fits the pattern and shoves that in it's place...

Or you're demented. On of the two

Yes. Yes you do...

Good luck with finding some who'll put up with ya!

I can definitely relate to being with people who see, but do not see. I don't usually notice odd shape pairings, but I'm big on noticing colors, texture, and light. Light especially. I'm addicted to the interplay of shadow and light (also why I notice things about color), and I point out things while out and about that people around me never notice.

I often miss shape pairings, though. Not surprised, really. My overall vision is abnormal, so I have to see by specifically focusing. If I'm looking at a wide area, I'm unable to see parts of it. Its why I always appreciate having weird stuff that I might do pointed out to me.

Of course... sometimes a shoe is just a shoe! But I loves ya anyway ^.^

Wouldn't that be "on" of the three? Pompous, Whiney and Demented?
You forget the possibility of all the above, they are not mutually exclusive ya knowz.

Therein lies the conundrum, sigh.
This is more my "board persona" than how I am in RL day to day (I know, I know... I was shocked too)
but yeah it seems good friends that are creative, intelligent, funny and into videogames
are hard to come by in my neck of the woods.

P.S. you cannot 7 size a tongue emote but nice try.

Does having a boob obsession count as a style?? =P

I wouldn't call it a boob obsession you didn't draw boobs for the Sketch you did of Lyl.

Next three? Is there some previous trio of "personality traits as a name" that I don't know about?
Are you talking about making them up for the hero group and roleplaying them?

I'll take Pompous.

It may not count as a style... it's just a really cool thing to have. *high-fives Wassy*

Great likeness of Missy. Nice line work. Shading values read well.
The only things I might point to are:
The lapel on the left... the upper triangle of it appears to be floating because of the wide soft shadow to the left of/under it. The hard line of the collar coming from around her neck would suggest almost a right angle and so the top part of the lapel should be sitting right on top of the jacket I believe and so the shadow should be thinner and darker to show that the two are very close. The lower part of the lapel where her body curves down and away from it reads great just as it is.
The shadow at the skirt's hemline needs to be a bit darker on the far right where the material is touching the skin. It may actually be that way now and it just loses some of that during the scanning, hard to tell.
One boot appears pointed and almost touching the ground at the tip the other is snub nosed and the tip appears raised.
The shadow of the sword... if I scroll down so I'm only looking at her feet and her shadows the swords shadow reads like the sword is sticking out about 30 degrees but scrolling up to view the sword it looks to be nearly vertical.
That's all I would care to point out that (in my opinion) could possibly be improved upon.

Beautiful piece.

A "boob obsession" can count as a "style" if the boobs are consistantly shaped well. Wassy, you have "booby style".

Thanks for the crit, CR =3

Yeah, I think the biggest area I would change would have been the shadow under the sword. I believe I was thinking backwards. That happens sometimes!

First assignment in the new semester is done. Click on the image to link to the dA page with the description! Colors are slightly off, but I won't have time to photograph it in natural light before its due =(

Lol, nice...

Though I'd have had her eating Bon bon's instead of smoking a cigar - show her letting herself go now that she's landed her man - but maybe that's just the sexist in me

but great job... Took me a sec to recognize her as Cinderella but that's likely more my fault for never having actually watched it...

Posted

I didn't even need to see HER to know it was Cinderella - the working mice made me go, "'Cinderelly, Cinderelly', night and day it's 'Cinderelly'!"

Wow. Haven't heard that particular song in quite a while. and now it's stuck in my head...Dah!

Love this piece. My favorite part is probably the exhausted looking bird holding the bucket of water. Followed by the unionizing mouse.

I like the fact that she's still going around with just one glass slipper...

Posted

Heh, I used just the one glass slipper as another nod to the character. And I used the cigar because I thought it was a funny juxtaposition of the classic Cinderella and how I always thought those animals did an AWFUL lot of work.

I'm really going to have to try to photograph this with better light when I get it handed back. The offness of the colors bothers me.
