New Frost Magus/Dark Frost Art!

I'm so excited right now. Wassy has been working up a piece for me after I approched her with an idea she couldn't refuse since she loves drawing Frost Magus so much. After main villain Dark Frost (who's an alternate reality version of my main hero Frost Magus, sucked into the same dimension due to a freak lab accident) to level 50, I had an idea that it would be cool to have a piece with both of them together, kinda good vs evil thing.

After discussing it with her, we ended up going with a scene which depicts the moment of their first meeting. Dark Frost being all confident and in control of the situation and Frost Magus looking very unnerved by the surprise encounter.

I absolutely love the result.

I think it looks like it could be right out of a comic book, kinda a big moment, full page type deal. There's more info on the background on the linked page if you'd like to know a little more about the background, but I just wanted to show off this awesome piece of art.

That's one of the reasons I really like this piece (aside from the fact it's just pure awesome). It's exploring an event that should have happened but never would be able to happen in game and it does it well.

I keep taking peeks at it while I'm sitting here at work...

Do like I do and print them off; then hang it up in your office that way you can appreciate it without having to click your way there. If anyone asks just tell em, "that's a picture of me and myself" then smile real big.

Yeah, I don't think that'd work real well at a telephone company. Maybe if I worked at NCSoft

Ok I will give you that. Maybe you can frame it and put it on your desk?

Thanks for all the nice comments everyone ^.^

I did enjoy this piece, and it went by super-fast because I can just about draw Frost with my eyes closed at this point.

A lovely piece, love the expressions there. Congratulations!

So, when you're drawing with your eyes open, how long does a piece like this typically take from start to finish? What difference would it make if the story was four panels featuring both characters in a variety of poses?

I enjoy this kind of picture because it's so clearly telling a story as opposed to simply showcasing a character. I'd be curious about reading that comic

I can imagine doing a kind of tryptich in which the left picture is a 3-4 panel story of Dark Frost's story and the right is a similar picture of Frost Magus' story, with the panel borders "flowing" towards the meeting in the middle.

Excellent work. When's the web-comic going on line?

Its hard for me to estimate total times (I could bother to keep track a few times, but that makes way too much sense) because pieces can be so different. I can estimate how long pencils/line work/coloring will take from certain points. I also don't work solidly on pieces straight through because I find it keeps my creativity at full tilt to put most of my time into one piece, but take breaks to work on other pieces.

This piece was the second slot in my queue, so I worked on it secondarily to another piece (which happens to be a group piece). I guess if I HAD to estimate.... if I had worked on just this piece straight through... 2-3 weeks? If I have very specific guidelines for the piece (posing/placement/layout), that can take anywhere from a few days to a week off the total time.

As far as a four panel actual comic book looking thing, no clue whatsoever! I haven't been asked to do anything like that, so I really wouldn't want to hazard a guess. Doing comic layouts is a beast in and of itself because you're practically like a movie director and each scene will need its own thoughts as to angles and placements and perspectives.

I swung by Wassy's place last night to pick up the print (Oh the benefits of living near the artist) and it looks even better on paper. Just something about seeing a piece on an actual sheet of paper that makes it more real. It doesn't hurt that the print came out gorgeously either.

I'm very happy with how everything turned out. Now the problem of where I'm going to put it comes in. I really need more wall space...
