Wentworth's 101: Introduction to the Markets
A few things I'd like to add:
If you make a personal supergroup, it becomes easy to transfer to your younger players in the form of IOs. I was able to fully slot my level 10-15 players for only a few million which is nothing to my 50. Store them in the SG enhancement tables, log back in with the given player, equip. Good stuff.
Also, you should try your best to IO equip as soon as you can. Using the tip about buying very low demand items and selling to stores is a good way to make enough money to get some basic IOs early. Even if they're not the "AWESOME SET IOS FROM HEAVEN!" at least you aren't losing enhancement effectiveness as you level. This is especially important early on if you are leveling fast.
Keep track of time. When it's 8am EST, America is only just barely waking up. Even the most die-hard players in the US have gone to sleep on the west coast (5AM). Meanwhile, it's 1PM in the UK. People are still at work during the week and aren't going to be playing. This is an excellent time to buy in the market as the number of bids will be low. This works especially well if you have the ability to get up at 6 or 7 AM as you will beat most of the East-coast'ers to the market as well. Note that this still works on the weekend though there will be some activity from our UK friends busy playing on their weekend day.
To get the best price, find a set of the same recipie/enhancement at about 4 different level ranges (40 down to 37 for example). Set a bid on the 40, then the 39, then the 38, then the 37 all at the same price. While you take the time to set the next bid, the first one might resolve in a buy and you can cancel the others. This way you don't have to sit there waiting to see if the bid takes before making another bid (because you're bidding on a different item). If you don't win any of the bids, up your price starting with the level you really want (40 in this case) and do it again until you get one (or meet your max and have to quit). If you never get the one you want, pick the odd numbered one (like 39 or 38, not multiples of 5) and place your last bid on the item and leave it there for a while.
Lastly, I want to say that I got robbed hardcore because of the 60 day rule several times. I always assumed that was a glitch that they were going to fix. Guess I learned my lesson.
Wow, just wow. I was terribly confused (and yes, intimidated) by the auction house in CoX. Thanks to this guide I decided to give the market a shot. I'm strictly small potatoes right now, but for me that 1 million (spread across all my chars) I just made in an hour or two that someone else might sneer at is uber good cause all my toons are low enough to deck themselves out for 100k pretty near.
Thank you very much for posting this. All too often in many games when there is a "trick" or special way or something to making decent money, other players would rather eat broken glass than share it and possibly cut back the tiniest amount on their profits. It's nice to see someone sharing the tricks of the trade freely.
This is truly outstanding.
Clear presentation, a great structure, excellent information with links that give further advanced reading and a lovely writing style.
I'm a great believer in good guides as major part of game enjoyment and this guide is an absolute STONKER.
Many many thanks for this. I can't praise it highly enough.

This was your very first post on the forums, Bacchae! That's very high praise indeed.
Glad I could help.

Wow. This was so helpful it hurts. I'd already learned a lot about the market all by myself and made a nice bit of coin, but this guide has opened my eyes to the real possibilities open to those who put in the work. Thanks for sharing
I just made 811k between bids last night and then logging in today. Good stuff!
Great guide, lots of of good info!
Good work writing this guide! Well done!

Did the devs ever explain why there's a 60-day rule?

Not to my knowledge, no. We can speculate: maybe they want to discourage hoarding, or encourage market participation, or save strain on their servers, but I've never seen an official explanation.

Hm. Same reasons I was kicking around in my head.
Thanks for the reply, Pete.
As fine a market guide as I have seen, and a good read to boot. Excellent work!
