Ah now that's an idea, using a famous painting sounds cool...

I think because your idea was so broad, that it was almost too open ended. Keep at it if you want more participation... okay I'll shut up now.

It's not so much a matter of "can or can't" as "willing or unwilling". I work full-time, and what you proposed sounds like something that would take more work than I would be willing to undertake.

That's not to say that no one would be interested, but you asked for opinions and I gave you mine.

What can the City Scoop do to make the idea more paletable?

My personal (read: individual and not official Scoop) idea was that we pick themes a bit more guided in theme but open ended in potential.

"Your own worst enemy"

"The moment of victory"

"Endure"

Do those sound like themes one could work with?

On the other side of things, what could we do with Snow_Globe's theme that would make it more enticing? Letting the artists vote on an art style? Extend/Shrink the time period? Offer prizes to participates of note?

There's a lot of potential in the idea of a "Meet the Theme" art challenge. Let's grow a bit and then harvest it, like a Little Sister with oh so much Adam.

I think that's a step more in the right direction. The great thing about this forums is that we're not all professional artists or art students. Sure, I took a lot of art classes in my day, but I rarely paid attention and did my own thing...trying to change my style to fit a specific style that's not my own?...just far too much "work" for a 2 job working, baby raising, just-for-fun artist like myself. Sure I like trying new things and pushing myself, but I do it within my own style, to help expand that style and make it better.

We have so many unique styles in this forum, and that's what makes it great. To ask everyone to art the same way is kind of a crime. Something like what you mentioned would stimulate an artist's imagination, allow them to use their own style, and take the theme in much more varied directions.

I don't think that what I'm trying to say in my head is coming out in print right, so I guess I'll try to sum up by saying "themes" good, "styles" bad. Maybe it's just my point of view, but "Art Nouveau" seems limiting to me, but something like "Endure" opens so many more possibilities and many more different ways to interpret it.
