Jan FArt Wars - voting

Aerones

Ok all, this month was a tough one. I expected to see a number of people to fall off, but we did decent with 14 people comin up with pieces.

Originally, I was going to have a major vote-off to 'cull the herd' but it seems that absentees will do that for us. So instead, we're going to go with a survivor themed vote.

Out of the below 14 pieces, I would like you to vote for ONE that, in your opinion, best catches the mood/feeling/vibe of the tv show HEROES. (try to remember, you're voting for the piece, not the artist)

The winner, will have immunity from February's challenge (provided they submit a piece in Feb, they cannot be eliminated).

Aerones

Arctic Innocence

Crestent

Crimson Jimson

Spinomania

Juggertha

LadyJudgement

Larissa Rasputin

Milk Weasel

Projectionist

Quickening

Tacky Tricky

Toxic Shia

Turkey Lurkey

And just a reminder, here's the leader board.

Voting will be closed on Feb 1st - midnight!

Is it safe to say that the contest is down to the 14, and that anyone who didn't do a piece for this month, can not enter next month?

That aside, while I love the Tacky piece for it's completeness... I am voting for the Projectionist piece , which I think captures the intensity of the show perfectly, and happens to be my favorite character, but that's not why I chose it.

Yup - if they didn't get it in, they're out.

My vote:
Tacky Tricky - man, that is one serious group shot. Lovin' it.

I'm guessing that voting for myself would be horribly shameless. But I have been known (by my friends) to have a lacking support of morals.

i'm voting-Toxic Shia

Aerones. I loved the Projectionist's work, but liked Aerones' better.

I vote for Arctic Innocence's piece. It has the feeling of one of Isaac's farsight paintings from the show.

PS - Will we know about next month's theme before the 1st? Just curious.

There are a lot of awesome pieces.

Arctic Innocence, Lady Judgement and Projectionists are runner ups.

But my vote goes to Tracky Tricky for the perfect mix of Heroes Icons and the most iconic picture of CoH.

gotta go with lady judgement

My 50s:
Hero: Armor Assassin (scrapper), Cross Dresser (scrapper), Surly Seaman (blaster), Defensive End (Tank), Rad Rhino (Cont)
Villain: Beast Infection (Corr), Sweet Zombie Jesus (MM), Milk Weasel (Stalker), Orgullo (MM), Agent Eris (Crab)

So many awesome pieces--I especially love LJ's contribution and projectionist and I agree with Spino that Tracky Tricky is a perfect combination of Heroes/COX--not to mention some incredible line work. However, I'm going with my personal prejudice and what I think is the most creatively inspired piece and go with

Toxic Shia as my all around favorite.

I vote Tacky Tricky. Good mix of both worlds.

This is a hard vote, everyone did such a great job! But I have to vote for Turkey Lurkey's piece featuring Sylar. I think Sylar's character as a villain was very well done, and the menace he represents encompasses a lot of the show for me.

That being said, I also enjoyed Cresent's pic of him getting pwnd by Maya

My question is, why does everyone think he eats brains? In his pre-evil introduction scenes it showed him as able to just see how tiny watch parts all moved together and worked to get their job done. That's what he does, he sees how things work. Just cause he lops off someone's skull to see how their brain handles running their own heroic powers doesn't mean he's munching on em.

I think that whole theory started because there's a lot of allusions to it, specifically Sylar's own dialogue about "tasty powers" and such.

Plus, there's a number of stories about people thinking they gain control/get more powerful by consuming the flesh of their enemies (touched on a bit in the Spider-Man"Kraven's Last Hunt"). Adds to the creep out factor of Sylar, and since they don't specifically say/show what Sylar does with the brains...people tend to let their minds go to the most gruesome conclusions.

Personally, I'm on the hedge, leaning more towards the "he just pokes and prods and perhaps takes apart the brains" camp. I went with the eating theme as I was trying to go for the whole "comic cover over-exaggerating the action inside to entice people to read" thing with my piece.

THIS page might help clarify. Or further confuse =)

Me too. Unless there is more about it in the show itself, I consider brain-eating to be speculation

Its a toss up between Toxic Shia and Projectionist, but I'm going with Projectionist. Good job to everyone.

I got to go with Projectionist here too! Fantastic piece!

Projectionist wins hands down on the basis of having the most 'feeling' of the actual show. There are a number of great entries but only a few really capture the vibe of the original show.

Arctic Innocence's speed paint would be my favourite if it had been a bit more 'refined'. Toxic's is also a strong candidate as I love the allusion and Sylar's expression in particular. But Tacky Tricky gets my vote for the combination of easily recognizable characters with a familiar composition I would love to see a full color version of it.

There are a lot of cool pieces here. I love Crimson Jimson's, Arctic Innocence's, and Lady Judgement's. Projectionist's coloring is incredible, and Quickening's made me laugh. But I have to go with Tacky Tricky. That piece definitely raised the bar.

I'm going to have to vote for Projectionest's piece. There's just a grit to it that really captures the character, I think.
