Ascention ((rp idea))

Was thinking over some of the stuff that had been conversed over in the "a short philosophy experiment" thread, and was kinda interested in the idea of seeing how some of the different concepts hinted at and referred to could be used.

My idea here somewhat was to have the base plot more or less be that those participating would all have methods and concepts driving their efforts to transcend what they currently are in one way or another. Kinda like a story about those who become gods in a way I guess.

The defining factor to this rp would be that everything one does has to be explainable through philosophy, theoretical science, and if it's logical enough possibly theology. Other schools of thought are open to consideration and suggestion, as well you may refer to other schools of thought as long as it's kept logically coherent.

One thing to note here is that we would likely be dealing with characters far beyond most in terms of power and suggestive capabilities, and god-moding might actually have to be addressed in that if someone does something and it is perfectly explainable by the prior mentioned fields of thought then it is passable, but that does not mean that action is absolute if there is a counter theory or point that another may put up to nullify or alter that prior act.

So...suggestion is an rp based on serious reasoning skills and directed in a way that we can observe how differing thoughts can collide and intermingle as we face different concepts such as morality, deism, existence/reality, etc.

Interesting.....only problem I'd have is....philosophy? Theoretical science? Theology? Yeah, over my head, most likely.

Wow... This is a heck of an idea, I just have one problem...

I don't think I have any characters I can roleplay with to explore this concept.

My Ryats already have their path laid out for them...

I can't roleplay Father Morgan or "Mr. Waki" because I don't know enough about the Catholic faith or deep African mysticisms (though I figure followers of such faiths would be bothered by me portraying them as such) to portray them properly. I know I made Father Morgan out to be a non-traditional priest, but I would also have to deal with dogmas and doctrines he has problems with and the revelations that caused him to walk the "Path of the Sword of Michael."

Other characters I have that deal with metaphysical concepts are Cory (Magic solves everything), Kip (A Monster Hunter who is arguing with his own soul), and Randall (again, a Monster Hunter, but retired like Kip should be). Each of these characters is perfectly fine with his state in the totality of the world (they view themselves as guardians, and have translated somewhat well to being heroes).

Look at that. A full-grown woman pulling off pigtails. Her crazy is off the charts.

Deffinately am interested in this. Bang and Dax are both gods so to speak already. . . .Bang is a human who wears the mask of the Once Chaos God and is trying to regain that power. Dax is a crystaline figure who hasn't been defeated yet. He can reshape the world as long as he can plant his crystals in water (Problem there, if water hits his origin cluster he grows uncontrollably and looses his sense of self) if he wants too.

I do not know my reasons for posting, but post I must. ~~Build

Yeah, I'm figuring on using my concept of an eternal null-entity, if ya don't have a char just make one up using yer theories. >.>

I may have to take a not always participating approach with the null-entity as it's kinda pushing at the end-all be-all of existence...seeing at it dictates what existence even is, every dimension and every plane of existence....kind of a bit much for one thing...

Can also use my character that's more of an eternal will, the not-so-omnipotent-but-still-could-ream-most-theological-gods one...

This is a really great idea.. perhaps, just for fun, we ccould play as our philosophical "heroes" might be like if they were Heroes or Villians.. think about it.. for instance if I played as Socrates, he might be a controller type with a powerful aura that could either hurt enemies or heal allies, and his main power would be somthing similar to a psychic attack since he would force his enemies to think about very esoteric subjects that would cause them great mental distresss. Since Idealism is the thought that there is such a thing as the "trancentental phenomenon of reality", would explain he incredible source of power.. etc..
Or
it could be a roleplaying thread where we are the philosphers of our choice from the past or present and are thrown into place where we can only solve the problems of that world through our debating and either agreeing or disagreeing to do something using only Philosophy as our power so to speak.. just some ideas...

That actually sounds kinda fun, also a bit open to humor, in good taste too. ^_^

I personally am almost inclined to put it from the point of view that none of the characters inherently have any kind of powers at all. Instead they rely on their own knowledge of universal mechanics through philosophy, theoretical science, and possibly theology that they end up being able to manipulate the universe/existence and transcend into becoming something more...or less...depending on how you look at it.

Still a great idea if this group wants to do it...
