Dark Kerse (Juggy Coloring Test)

Used Juggertha's coloring tutorial extraordinaire to test some light and shadows on a dark based toon, in this case Dark Kerse...

Hey Juggy, so when you paint on the shadow layer, what opacity and flow do you use, and what size brush? I started with 34-40% but found I had better results with as low as 8-15%...

I assume you're referring to this tutorial of Juggy's. I've yet to try it, but it's so very far from what I usually do, I imagine it would feel pretty odd.

LJ/Dandy - Thank you for this post and for posting Juggy's tutorial!

I use it, but I'm not schooled in Photoshop at all - just what I have learned on my own. Juggy's brief tutorial just got me started on my first digital coloring attempt! This is exciting!

I know its my first attempt and just started, but what do you think? I got right into it on an existing sketch I had. I realize I'm going to have to clean up my pencils.

Much better control than I had with it, like Dandy said this is not the usual way we both color... but it has it's merits and obviously in the hand of someone with finesse and style like it's creator, it can be very effective. Keep at it, looks good so far...

It's funny, because I usually don't use that style anymore (I've found a faster cheaper was to go. lol).

If I'm using a very soft edge brush, I'll have the flow as low as 5% - that way, I can go over it again to achieve the darkness I want.

Well, dedicating the time to work on this was a hurdle, but I finally have something to update and would welcome your comments on my first digital effort.

I started pricing a digital pen/tablet. I'm looking at a Intuos3 from Wacom. Never used one before but it has to be easier than a mouse.

That's DAMN good for a mouse... the pen will make your work more intricate and oh my god shave hours off your time!
