THE DARK ROVER
Energon X looked at Ken cautiously (although this was difficult to tell, given that his 'face' was a blank mask with two glowing bits where his eyes would be), then shrugged. "A briefing would be appreciated, although I'd like to test your hull integrity first; it will give me some idea as to the capabilities of your little Shade-thingies better than a technical readout would."

He walked over to a spare slab of hullmetal lying in the hangar bay and brought it under the focus of a thick beam of coherent energy, gradually ramping up the intensity. "And insofar as the Shades never developing your particular time-travel tech... there are other methods of time travel out there. And given what I've experienced over the last twenty-five years or so, assuming 'they can't possibly follow us' is a really, really, really bad idea."

A thought struck him. "This is probably a stupid question, but did anybody go back and check that their world is still monatomic dust in the present after you started mucking about with the timestream?" he added, as he continued to ramp up the inensity of his blasts.

KINGS ROW/FORGOTTEN ZONE-

Bang's knife dug into the Scarlet Eye's side, and the elemental began to leak raw magic. The illusory self he had left when he removed himself to the psychic plane during the teleport shuffle faded, a stricken look on its face, and Bladewing and Dax were left alone in the Forgotten Zone.

On the psychic plane, the Scarlet Eye clutched at his side and glared at the capering Bang. "If... what... you show... is... true..." he rasped, sounding somewhat pained. "Then... you have... something... of mine... little... god..." He lunged, chaos energy spraying accross the mindscape and distorting it strangely.

Contact.

To Bang's eyes, little would have changed- they remained on the mental plane, Scarlet Eye attacking him both mentally and through manifestations on the plane. To an outside observer, though... the Eye had leapt into the mask, in a furious attempt to usurp it from its wearer, relying on his own tremendous mental powers and a psionic 'anchor' he had left with Cry, allowing him to draw upon the new Ghost Widow's power and leaving him with a way back into the world, if things went wrong in the maskBang mind.

"I am afraid I have no new information. It would appear that the infrastructure has crumbled and I am cut off from our satellite network, which will make my transportation based on topographical maps which may be inaccurate. I really should seek a way to re-open the portal and rejoin my unit, but as that is something beyond the scope of my knowledge and resources at this time, I am willing to aid you in your cause of resistance."
The droid, not needing to breath, was prone to long sentences.

"I am the M-113 transportation and medical droid. I am designed to get troops on and off the battlefield, and keep them alive while they're fighting. I am also capable of stealth missions, sneaking behind enemy lines and infiltrating squads. I have other capabilities but they are top secret. Would you like my help?" The droid stood at ease, mechanical claws clasped behind its back.

"We could always use help. As for strange things at Portal Corp." he said to the lizard men, "that would be a good place to look. I am pretty sure it is just a whole lot of machinery though. Never cared much for technology anyway. But if you want, we can go there. Not much to see though."

Cry felt the link accomplish, he wiggled in Dead Aim's arms gathering up the whole essence of Scarlet. "Such power in these heroes is rare in these areas, find what you can from them."

Cry felt the rapid uprising among the Arbiters, enough to cause concern. "They all best stay away... daddy will not tolerate this," Cry mumbled under his breath condensation coming from it as the room instantly started to chill.

"I will not be made a mockery and be degraded. If I am to be challanged the Arbiters shall understand they are under the law of me!"

"Well, as you wish." Ken gave a shrug of his shoulders, "But I'm going to have to recommend agains...oh, you meant that plate. Well sure, go ahead. Won't tell you much past the first layer, though."

It was quite true. As the saurian had already stated, the hull was an assembly. The terconium plate there, on the other hand, was decidedly not. While it could still stand up to temperatures around 30 kilo Kelvin, not to mention several million tons of pressure, it was in essence still just a metalplastic; in other words, normal matter.

"And it sounds like you're not very familiar with the workings of time travel." Ken went on to elaborate, "It's not a stream one can just change. At least not with the intent of changing it. It's a rather complex formula. In this case it boils down to 'it happened because it happened'. I really don't know of a better way to explain a causality loop of zero."

If there was one, he certainly didn't want to know. A cause being its own effect and vice versa could do a number on any attempt to rationalize it. People who worked with such things tended to agree only on one thing: that it should be left alone.

"Not to mention one can't travel freely within the 4th dimension without invoking a fold through the 6th." the saurian summed up. It was a simplified statement, of course - one certainly could, but one's actions would have no effect on one's own present. Instead, they'd branch off into an alternate version of thus, which already existed to begin with, "Trust me, they've got no idea dakkarspace even exists. They relied solely on dark gates to get across the multiverse..."

((Groul's the only draconic guy - Danger's built like a human, just no larger than your hand. ))

"Oh, that's not necessary." the red-scaled being attempted to dismiss the topic with the wave of a hand. It didn't stand obvious, but someone with keen insight - and maybe a tone analyzer - could likely have deduced the draconian had something to hide, "We'll just send a probe out later."

Danger agreed with a silent nod, his mind working behind his tiny forehead. No communications tower, hm? Or at least not one that had been found. That meant it could still be there. In either case, they had to be sure. The site would need to be picked apart, and without anyone knowing.

Now he just had to figure out how to do so without arousing suspicion.

Why did these things always sound easier than they were...?

((Oh, this is getting good. Do I see a rogue Arachnos Lieutenant in the making there? ))

Wracked by lightning, Acanous dropped to his knees, just in time for a streek of plama to shoot by where his head was a moment before.

He fought it, the electricity numbing his nerves, making his whole body tingle, his twitching arm moving back to grasp the hilt of his mirror-sheathed blade. He seemed to think on it a second, then let his hand drop.
nothing is worth that... not if there's the slimmest glimmer of hope...

The arachnos spiders closed in, and Acanous concentrated, conserving his remaining stores of power.

(Depending on the next hit taken, I'll either fire off Dark Regen or collapse on the floor)

Jake's eye almost twitched in a very anime fashion when Acanous simply dropped down, avoiding his blast.

"Simple fix."

He simply rose his other hand, and again fired at the back of Acanous's head.

-----

In addition, the mass number of Arachnos soldiers had managed to fend off the majority of the Sky Raiders, with much help from Arbiter Tamesis, which, obviously, lead to more and more of them taking interest in the invading hero. No less than thirty Arachnos soldiers seemed to be firing at him all at once, and with that many, there bound to be at least some that hit their mark.

Arachnos Outpost: Steel Canyon
Some Random Room

"So we're agreed, then." The leader of the tribunal shouted across the room, deliberately interrupting any conversations that had been taking place. "Due to Lieutenant Cry's rashness, he will be 'Relocated'," He quite literally said this with air quotes, "To the European front. Hopefully, Lord Recluse's presence there will be enough to put him in line. All in favor?"

Again, a resounding 'Aye!' echoed throughout the chamber.

"Very well then."

"But sir," One voice spoke out, his face undetectable in the crowd. "Cry will no doubt be infuriated at the concept of being relocated. He'll put up a fight. Won't we need to enlist the help of at least one of the other members of the inner-circle?"

"True, although I believe the help of the inner-circle would be a bit much."

He scratched his chin and stared into space for a moment, only a second later snapping his fingers as if in realization.

"No, this will be easy. His loyalty to Lord Recluse is second to none. We will simply say it is an order from above."

((I don't think they'd need to. As far as I know, the Arbiters have the same authority as Recluse when it comes to these things.))

Scirocco took Acanous' stiff resistance with stoic indifference. Without warning, a gust of desert wind whipped the air about the hero into a frenzy, attempting to bowl him right into the barrel of the Arbiter's waiting plasma cannon.

That the howling gale would not affect anything but its intended target, its mystic nature completely under Malak's control, which also meant none of the shots loosed upon Acanous would be deflected by the winds...

Scarlet Eye had entered the mask. . .no biggie right? Wrong. As a Chaos elemental he had the ability to affect the mask's mental realm in anyway he pleased, with the mask's approval that is. The mask, on the other hand, had a mind of it's own and wasn't pleased that someone had decided to interfere in it's takeover of the only human capable of using it's power.

The mask's side of the mental scape was made of nothing but blinding white light, there was no up or down, left or right. Bang's side looked like something out of Walt Disney's worst nightmare, a demonic Disney World so to speak.

A voice seemed to ring from everywhere and nowhere, "Why are you here youngling? Do you seek to return to me? Do you wish for my power? Do you want to see the future, or the past? Do you want to be taller? I can do all these and more. I ask only that you do not interfere with my allocation of this human."

Dax looked around, Bang had stopped his usual skip jump crap and began to shake uncontrollably. "You think that's gonna be a problem, swordsman?" Dax asked as he sat on his haunches looking at Bladewing.

Grumping, Bladewing let his power recede, the dark lightnings that had empowered him were drawn back into the sword, hissing with power as they did so.

Turning to the jester, Bladewing grinned.

"Hey Bang, whatever is going on in there kick that guy's @$$!"

Anthius stretched his angelic wings flying over steel canyon in a low gliding flight. He sighed to himself. "Now where the hell has that keeper gone, I get sent out to give the guy a hand and of course he goes to one of these planes where i can't find him in an instant." He stopped his glide looking around above an office building that seemed to have a freshly blown hole in the wall and looked through it to see the very person he was looking for, getting his [censored] kicked. "Of course," he mutters to himself.

He floats back up out of sight and starts concentrating bringing more of whats happening in his immediate surroundings into focus(Focused fighting, focused senses, and evasion) then took a moment to get in a battle ready position(practiced brawler) just as he finished he noticed the arbiter appear between him and Acanous. Much closer to Acanous then himself but that didn't give Anthius much time to act. He he called his sword into his hand as it burst into flame (buildup) as the Arbiter took that first shot that went over his friends head. He flew at the Arbiter's back raising it up bringing it down full force onto the Arbiter's head(Headsplitter).

Acanous was buffetted by the raging winds, caught in the center of the storm. Gritting his teeth, he once more opened himself to the energies of the universe, allowing it to flow through him. The arachnos troops in the near area started as he changed their energy, modifying it to once again alter his personal timescape, restoring his vitality, even as beams of red arced into his shielding energies, refracting out of the Murky Cloud of negativity encircling Acanous.
He grunted at the pain, even as the swirling sands and coalesced negative energy created intricate patterns before his eyes.

Focusing on the Arachnos troops, he once again inverted the gate, magnifying it's microstatic energies and directing them against the Arachnos (Soul Drain+Death Shroud) (Yes I toggled it back on just then >.&gt

BANG'S 'MIND'-

The Scarlet Eye froze for a moment when the mask spoke. This wasn't entirely unexpected, but it was... disquieting, that the mask retained enough personality of its own to object to his intrusion. It raised the risk of his attempted maneuver significantly, but... the offer...

He considered.

"I believe... I will take... all of the above." he finally concluded. "Empower me... 'father'..." Then the elemental hesitated. "Although... we can... dispense with... the added... height." A pause. "However... I promise only... non-aggression... for so long... as... you... or your... host... do not interfere... with my plans."

As he 'spoke', he let questing tendrils of his consciousness drift, apparently aimlessly over the landscape... doing the telepathic equivalent of a passive scan of his surroundings, seeking anything that could be turned to his advantage, now or later.

THE DARK ROVER-

Energon X shrugged, having completed his test on the now rather perforated hull plating. "Time Travel was never something I enjoyed, even when those Mender idiots were running all over Paragon for a bit. However, I did learn not to make assumptions about it, no matter what the math might suggest." He paused, and made a displeased noise. "I also learned that paradoxes are a pain in the [censored], but that's a story for another time."

He turned to face Ken and the others. "In any case, there's little point standing here trading hypotheticals; you obviously have more direct experience with the entities in question, whereas I have little to go on save my experience and intuition, both of which are urging caution on this matter." He looked Ken square in the eye. "If I might be so bold... it looks like you've been carefully avoiding saying exactly what you're fighting that makes weaponizing world-killing creatures seem like a good idea..." He left the implied question hanging in the air.

Scirocco could have facepalmed. What was today, 'Open House at the Fortress Day'?! Why hadn't the damn turrets...?!

Of course. Big duh moment: Sky Raiders. It figured. Where had the days gone when someone with enough IT experience couldn’t disable the defenses of your ultimate fortress of doom and darkness? One would think mad science had come far enough to prevent just such happenings.

He'd have to talk to Grillo sometime. Maybe if he managed to get him really going, the man could come up with something brilliant, groundbreaking, and decidedly lethal. Malak would see.

Scirocco took a moment to analyze the situation. The force of Crab Spider troopers didn't seem to be doing much, and even the specially trained snipers weren't achieving results. Considering they formed the equivalent of SWAT teams within Arachnos, generally able to deal with threats that ranged from the mundane to the super-powered, this was frustrating to say the least.

For a split second, Malak considered calling upon the various divisions, but that would probably only escalate this conflict. No, they needed a quick and sensible solution here, and Scirocco had just the right thing in mind. Sadly, it also meant he'd have to toss out the hopes of getting one of them alive for interrogation purposes, but then that was a sacrifice he was willing to make.

Blasting a swath of crimson lightning at Anthius in hopes of shocking the swordsman off his projected course with the Arbiter, Malak called to his Mu mystics to relay his orders, bypassing the downed intercoms of this sector.

The arcane forces acted swiftly, and it didn't take long at all for the entryway to Cry's former chamber to divulge a duo of Arbiter Drones, their many eyes focusing on all opponents in the area with vicious sapphire gleam.

The first disintegrator bolt caught a Sky Raider right in the back, scattering his molecules to the winds. The second went wide because its target had managed to dodge. Thankfully, Arachnos' disintegration technology wasn't that advanced, and so the drones could only fire bolts of disbanding force, rather than continuous beams, and their chamber capacitors took a few seconds to recharge. The intruders still had a chance to flee.

Scirocco knew this well, but he couldn't command the Arbiter Drones personally. Only an Arbiter could. True, Recluse had given him the override for emergencies, but that Malak did not carry on his person. It was up to Tamesis and Walsh to make the right call now...

--------------------

"Precisely what lancers are for." Ken chuckled under his hood, "And other world-killing creatures, of course. Okay, so maybe 'power-hungry tyrants' fits more closely. As you may know, we're at war. Our enemy calls itself the Concile of Seven, and is your fairly standard galaxy-conquering force. Promises of peace, happiness, yadda yadda, but if you don't relinquish your free will, they'll just take it and be done with it."

"Generally, you'd think this wouldn’t be a problem," the saurian let out a sigh, "Plenty of those around. Only these guys have the muscle and the brains to back up their threats. There was this thing called the Arcon Empire. Reasonable place - not perfect, but decent enough - and ruled a good bit of the westside and northside for about 20 millennia. Concile took 'em out in three days. Made slaves of those they could, killed anyone they couldn't, and called it a day."

"Again, you'd think this wouldn't be a problem." probably threw Energon for a loop as it came over Ken's lips, "Happened before, will happen again. Only the Concile guys were smart. Had sleeper agents. They figured out just what a lot of people wanted, and basically bought their loyalty. So suddenly it's not galactics against external force, but bloody civil war plus pan galactic invasion. All in all, not the best of situations..."

((Well, from what I've gathered, Cry only really listens to 'Daddy', so, despite the Arbiters technically having the same authority, Cry wouldn't pay them a second thought.

"Statement:" W0-07 began, "File: Pop Culture: I'm tired of these mother [censored]-ing heroes in my mother [censored]-ing base!"

It looked at the Anthius's sudden dive toward its master, and relayed the image to each of the others. They discussed a strategy and decided to teleport him down to them and fire at his hamstrings, using precision aim to completely incapacitate him.

This process took all of one fiftieth of a second.

They proceded with the plan, paying no mind to Scirocco's offensive toward the hero.

Anthius would find himself unexpectedly on the ground, with his legs about to be rendered useless in a little under half a second.

-----

Tamesis and Jake both did not let the Arachnos Drones' presence go unnoticed. However, Tamesis, who only did well at battle tactics, decided to let Jake have the reins.

Besides, he was having fun with the Sky Raider Captain. He teleported on top of the vehicle yet again, making sure to bypass the forcefield that he knew was coming...

-----

Jake smirked as he saw the Arachnos Drones make their way onto the battle field.

Excellent. I wasn't able to summon them in the midst of battle, but it seems Lord Scirrocco has done it for me.

He certainly made use of them. Noticing that his own 'bots were taking care of Anthius, the newest threat, he had one of the drones continue to fire on the Sky Raiders, but had the other focus on Acanous.

If Acanous didn't die right now from the sheer amount of force coming at him all at once, his particles being scattered into the surrounding air might just do the job.

The Drone fired with the precision only a machine could achieve.

Office #320

Little specks of ice collected along the figure of Dead Aim. Cry was giggling under his breaths feeling the rush of uprising. "They forget that I can hear every single one of them." Daddy would come back, success at hand that the heroes were once and for all defeated in years time.

Cry's intelligence about the hero presence here grew into fruitation once he was able to pinpoint the name of operations, Bastion. Even now the sight of strong heroes, gave word that there was a presence and it was not as organized as he thought. Scarlet Eye would be needed, the focused precison of Scarlet's own mental aptitude and the strength of Cry's own domain to push it would finnally unveil the presence.

Former United Kingdom: England

A nuclear winter settled upon the plains of the highlands, attempts of erradicating the footholds of Arachnos failed and in doing so decreased the national temperatures by 20 degrees. She wore earmuffs and gaint goggles, her blonde flowing hair whipped from the icing winds.

"Are the scans holding up?"

"Nothing, but the wind." The man beside her wore the uniformed guard of blue and black, the elite group that kept Arachnos largely at bay, their name simple yet powerful, Sentinels. The woman got up and poked her head at the war machine ahead puffing black smoke.

"This is as far as we go, that thing hasn't moved for the month. I think its safe to say to go on the offensive." *Wrrrr* The man yelled hearing the sound, the air withered, fading, from it a crouched figure bearing a large spider symbol on its head shot out its arm.

The hillside exploded from the transfer of energy. The bot, a gift from Black Scorpion to Captain Mako was a new breed of stalking technology. It picked up the scanner from the floor wiping the bloody snow from the screen. It crushed it and beeped dropping the scanner and dissappearing.

For moments the black smoke stopped and then like a gaint predator it moved its legs lifting it off the ground. Within a worn spider still shivering with lust of what he held in his fist, a metal face plate mask. The thought of victory, was now in reach.

"We barely have enough power to cause a small town to go insanee. Why should we helpp this punk? We should just let him feed on the small fries around here till he thinkss he has power."

"No Bang. You know the code. If he swears in the old language he cannot go back on his word. I will give him power. He will hold his side of the bargain," The mask rumbled. "Do you accept?"

Bang was muttering under his breath about inconsiderate, inanimate objects and power trips.
