The nurse was persistent. This patient would not be swayed. She had called a group of orderlies to assist her. He wasn't at all unpleasant, quite the contrary, he was very polite just single-minded. She heard the orderlies behind whispering, her own thoughts. "Why should we be surprised if he's up," one orderly stated.

"I know, this is a hero hospital," another commented. The orderlies buzzed around and tried to insist that Shiro should return to bed.

Those thoughts went through her head as well, but there was something else. According to the reports and files on this patient, he had no signs typical of powers of regeneration. Nor any signs of toughened skin or even hyper enhanced senses and reflexes. He should, for all intents and purposes, still be in the coma. He seemed normal if not really stubborn. She watched the man stare at them, his cool green eyes watching them. She shivered under his gaze, it wasn't unpleasant, just unnerving. He was balking at being ushered back into bed. < He's a very stubborn one.> she thought to herself.

Shiro watched with a calm, collected smile at the orderlies. They wanted him to remain in bed, to rest, but he knew he could not. He heard her voice again. Calling to him from farther off then before. He needed to leave. To find her. To have his questions answered. He tried being polite to the orderlies and to the nurse, but they balked. Neither would budge on this. He watched as the nurse called in for a doctor.

Void Blazer continued to look around, when he heard someone speaking to him in French,

Tessa:"Bon jour, est-ce que vous pouvez m'aider?"

Void Blazer turned around, knowing only one person who spoke French in the Clinic "Wait, Hali? Is that y-...oh." he said somewhat cheerily, before he realized it was not actually Hali. This caused him to sulk for a seconds. Void Blazer paused for a moment, trying to understand what the woman before him asked.

Dang, I knew I should have paid some more attention in French class... "Uhh..let's see..." Void Blazer mumbled. Trying to speak in his best French,he said, ((Which, for the record, is not very good.)) "Jaim'e appelle....umm...Void Blazier? Je ne pas parle..er..francais. Je parle anglais. Vous parle anglais?"

Void Blazer stumbled over his words, trying to get his point across, only hoping Tessa understood him.

Tessa felt his disappointment and started to walk away, then heard his stumbling attempt to communicate, and she smiled a bit.

"Oui. I am Tessa, and I am very confused... Where are Tyrant's minions? Why is there quiet and peace outside? Where -am- I? Where is Shiro? What happened to us?"

Here she took a breath and stopped her headlong rush of words, cringing that she had let so much slip, and tried to trust this man so much as to ask what she had.

"I... I am sorry. Something happened to my partner and I, and I am very confused. If you cannot help, can you kindly direct me to one who can?" She tried to make him feel at ease in her presence, sort of a harmless-innocent-no-ill-intention sort of feeling, but not much, just a little influence. It was a coping mechanism she'd developed as a young child on a world where Statesman's other self held sway.

((Sorry I haven't updated in so long. I didn't get a chance to read all the posts as the last page or so seem really long but I'll get around to it.))

[ QUOTE ]
"What about you?" It was hard to tell if Sis was asking if Sandra could put Ed in a coma, or if she was volunteering to put Sandra in one.

[/ QUOTE ]

A nervous smirk flashed across Sandra’s face and she tried to lock eyes with Sis. “Well, that’s the thing….the monitoring device that was implanted is also a form a magitech capable of focusing the patient’s spiritual aura to disrupt their neuronal synapses with a single chant or a push of a button….” Edward’s determined glare caught her attention in a sort of ‘get to the point’ manner so Sandra followed up with a summary. “It can alter your brain functions to stop telekinetic powers from working. It won’t put him in a coma but it’ll be less detrimental than using a power dampening device.”

The air between Edward and Sandra didn’t grow any less tense with her explanation which made Sandra ever more nervous. “Why? Why use all this magic and whatever else? Why help me?” Ed demanded and took a step toward her but his temper began to quell.

“I can’t say it was entirely my idea. My son inspired me when he began volunteering here. I decided to expand the applications of magitech to medical and therapeutic operations but the human testing is very limit-” Sandra started explaining, her expression calm and intellectual but cringed her face just before finishing her sentence. “Perhaps I’ve said too much?”

“You’re damn right you said too much!” Ed flared up again, “I’m not a damned guinea pig!”

“Um, it was the nature of your condition, your powers of resilience and the clinic expending their resources that got them to agree to my company lending some help,” Sandra went on, getting slightly defensive that it might be possible that her magitech may somehow be inadequate to help those in need.

[ QUOTE ]
"Easy. She probably had no idea, man. And if I have learned anything about security personnel, we're going to have a bigger problem on our hands in a minute." Without turning around, she asked Sandra, "You're psychic. Where are they? Air or ground?" Her words were clipped. It was clear from her tone she expected an answer.

[/ QUOTE ]

Edward backed down and turned a cold shoulder to both the women. “I wouldn’t bet on it,” he growled toward Sis as he was now getting more miffed with the both of them.

Sandra, on the other hand, smirked nervously. “Oh, well I’m not really psychic. My suit can pick up the minute waves given off by the minds of living things, amplify, interpret then transpose the information into thought. So without my suit, I’m incapable of doing that.” She blushed a bit and straightened the jeans she was now wearing with her hands, “….and I cannot reactivate a suit so soon after I switch it off.”

After a short awkward moment for Sandra, she managed to summon at least an inkling of defiance in the situation despite the possibly dangerous pair. “Hey, what are you planning to do either way, ground or air? Run? Because I am against that. I’d like to help Ed’s condition, not help him escape.”

~~

[ QUOTE ]
Kruth'T nodded, understanding his dilemma. "Basically, Ella injured someone. It looked like she had momentarily lost control of her powers, and it scarred her badly." I think.

"I think the security captain would know more, but I believe he wouldn't be authorized to explain better."

[/ QUOTE ]

Ian crossed his arms and nodded as he listened. “Hmm, so that’s what happened. I guess you were there to see? That must mean you hang around her so you two are friends. My name’s Ian,” he smiled and extended a hand to shake toward Kruth’T.

Void Blazer found himself a bit confused by some of Tessa's questions.

Tessa:"Oui. I am Tessa, and I am very confused... Where are Tyrant's minions? Why is there quiet and peace outside? Where -am- I? Where is Shiro? What happened to us?...."I... I am sorry. Something happened to my partner and I, and I am very confused. If you cannot help, can you kindly direct me to one who can?"

Void Blazer was taken aback at how upset the women seemed to be looking. She's getting so worked up...wow. Still, she only needs help, I wouldn't want to turn her away.

Void Blazer tried to speak as calmly as possible, hoping it would help relax the woman as well, "Look lady, just relax okay? I'll answer your questions as best I can." Void took a moment to remember all her questions, and then began to speak, "Okay then, first of all, you're at the clinic it's basically a hospital and spa for heroes. Though, I don't know how you would get here without knowing it."

Void Blazer had thought he cleared that up, but found himself having trouble answering some of Tessa's other questions. "Now, about Tyrant's minions. I mean, there's a bunch of them y'know. You'd have to talk to the portal corp technicians to direct you to the right portal to send you to the praetorian dimension. But, if you don't have high enough security clearance, you might not be able to go there. Now, about the uh, whole, "why is it so peaceful?" stuff. Could you perhaps, clarify your question? I mean, come on, this is a hospital, where we can RELAX, why would we want hustle and bustle, what are you, some kind of 'city chick' or something? Do you dislike the quietness of this? Personally, I kind of like the peace and quiet, it can get too loud in the other parts of Paragon City. As for the, "Where is shiro?" thing, I'm going to have to ask, who is Shiro?"

(Void Blazer)"Okay then, first of all, you're at the clinic it's basically a hospital and spa for heroes. Though, I don't know how you would get here without knowing it."-

"I do not know either. I activated our beacons, and passed out... I think I dreamed, then I woke here."

(Void Blazer) "Now, about Tyrant's minions. I mean, there's a bunch of them y'know. You'd have to talk to the portal corp technicians to direct you to the right portal to send you to the praetorian dimension. But, if you don't have high enough security clearance, you might not be able to go there.

"Vous voulez dire que ce n'est pas cet endroit ??" she took a deep breath and tried again. "You mean to tell me this is not the place where Tyrant rules?" she felt weak, and sat where she stood, holding her head as he continued.

(Void Blazer) "Now, about the uh, whole, "why is it so peaceful?" stuff. Could you perhaps, clarify your question? I mean, come on, this is a hospital, where we can RELAX, why would we want hustle and bustle, what are you, some kind of 'city chick' or something? Do you dislike the quietness of this? Personally, I kind of like the peace and quiet, it can get too loud in the other parts of Paragon City."

She shook her head, refuting the idea that she was opposed to peace and quiet. "Non... I do not despise peace nor quiet. But where I am from you do not find it anywhere, pretty much. It almost does not exist. All I know is that I am not from here. My partner Shiro and I were on a mission to gather information about Mother Mayhem, and she did something with our beacons... and I woke up here."

She looks at the water in the pool with a lost, and scared look on her face, pulling up her knees to her chest and resting her forehead against her knees. Her shoulders shook with silent sobs as the reality of what had happened to her finally hit her. She was lost. Totally and completely lost. She was somewhere far from her home, and while this gave her a respite from the horror of her normal life, all those she cared about were still there.

She continued calling to Shiro, and her mental voice took on a note of pain, and fear.

Shiro stood his ground, he wished they would just let him leave. He understood that it was probably unorthodox and a little immoral for him to be running around in a sheet, but he did not know if he had any clothes here. No one seemed like they would answer him, just trying to get him back into bed. He did not understand why they wanted him in bed. He felt, more or less, fine. A little run ragged, a little sore, but still fine enough. His eyes glanced over the crowd in his way.

Shiro's eyes came to a stop on the nurse. He gazed intently at her, watching her. The nurse shivered under his gaze. <Why is he staring at me?> she thought. She stared directly back into his eyes. <Is he trying to read my mind> With great effort she pulled her gaze from his. She breathed in deeply and stepped out of the room.

The nurse leaned against the wall, trying to regain her breath. His eyes seemed to pierce through her, like he was staring at her soul. She shook her head, trying to get his piercing green eyes out of her mind. She took slow, measured breaths telling herself she was being silly. There was nothing on file about this patient having access to higher brain functions like telepathy or even empathy. Why was she getting so worked up, over him. Sure, he was standing in the room naked except for a bed sheet, but that shouldn't have phased her.

She took one last deep breath and steadied herself to face the mystery patient once more when a doctor arrived.

Kruth'T felt he had no choice but to agree. Something was gong on here that he didn't understand. But that was hardly unusual for him. The prospect of answers was just too alluring for him to abandon.

Swiftly he fallowed Kia out of the gym. However, he glanced back at Ian. Curious if he would accompany them...

((Sorry for the lack of in depth responses right now, I've got a lot of things going on.))

Void Blazer listened with interest to all of Tessa's responses to his explanations.

Tessa:"I do not know either. I activated our beacons, and passed out... I think I dreamed, then I woke here."

However he was rather surprised by the woman's follow up question.

Tessa:" You mean to tell me this is not the place where Tyrant rules?"

Void Blazer laughed, "Ha, course not, what gave you the idea it was?"

However, he was far more alarmed then amused with her next statement, "Non... I do not despise peace nor quiet. But where I am from you do not find it anywhere, pretty much. It almost does not exist. All I know is that I am not from here. My partner Shiro and I were on a mission to gather information about Mother Mayhem, and she did something with our beacons... and I woke up here."

Just before Void Blazer could further question her though, he realized she was crying by the pool. Man, Mother Mayhem must have done some serious stuff to her if she's still so hysterical. I need to calm her down, but, how?

Void Blazer gave a laughed nervously, as he tried to help Tessa out of"Heheh...cheer up it looks like Mother Mayhem did you a favor, now you're in a spa!" Just then a thought came to him, "Hey, I know, if Mother Mayhem adjusted your beacon to send you here, isn't it possible that this Shiro guy was sent here too..?"

Tessa looked up and tried to smile, pulling herself up by her courage, and trying very hard not to break down on this stranger who was being kind to her, even though he didn't have to.

"Hey, I know, if Mother Mayhem adjusted your beacon to send you here, isn't it possible that this Shiro guy was sent here too..?"

At those words, Tessa's eyes opened widely, and she smacked ehrself for being stupid.

"Mon deiu!! How could I have been so stupid?!" she exclaimed.

Gathering her energies, she launched herself into a mental search for him. Just scanning around for signs of him, like a gopher putting it's head up to look and see if things are safe. She knew his aura, would always know it, so if he was... There! Back in the direction she came from.

She turned to Void Blazer, a sort of distant look in her eyes. "Pardonnez-moi, monsieur, now that you bring it up, I can see him. I must go. Thank you so for your help. Perhaps we shall meet again."

Without waiting for a reply, she sprinted back toward the room she had "escaped" from, surprising several nurses and other staff who'd not seen her come this way the first time. The nurse who had seen her smiled at her and waved. She smiled back, and kept on, she didn't notice the nosebleed, the limp, or the fact that the hallway danced and swirled around her like a top.

At the hallway now, she shouted "Shiro!!" and stopped behind the group of orderlies, panting heavily, and collapsing to her knees against the wall.

Again she whispered his name, and then keeled over in a dead faint from so much exertion so soon after their ordeal.

The squeaking of what seemed to be an army of loudly stampeding mice as rubber soles ran on linoleum went unheard by Orchid.

"Syringe!" ordered the nurse as she then expertly slid the long needle into the batlike Orchid's exposed back between her wings.

As the medication coursed through Orchid's body like liquid fire her muscles began to relax. As it flowed into her brain like a slow motion explosion of a locomotive hitting a brick wall, first one foot slipped it's grip from the rafter then shortly thereafter the other foot slipped it's grasp from the rafter.

Orchid fell headfirst to her soft bed below where the nurse and orderlies wrapped her securely in a cotton blanket as she began to change back into human form.

Orchid was blissfully unaware of the indignity she had just suffered in her fall. The inner voice continued to speak to her in the dark dream.

* * * * * * * * * *

"I'll spare you the memory of what the vampyri did with you but I will show you how you survived", the voice was calm and almost detached as Orchid remembered.

* * * * * * * * * *

In Orchid's vision she saw the reservoir in shambles. Vampyri bodies disappearing as they lay newly re-dead. The machines had been blown up and destroyed, the doors off their hinges and the power cut.

"I must get out of here. I must escape", was Orchid's only thought.

As she approached the blast door her shadow was not that of a human being. It looked to her like some giant horseshoe crab. She reached for the blast door and was instantly taken aback. Instead of human hands Orchid now possessed claws. "What the...."
Upon examination of her feet she saw the same.

"What kind of monster did The Council turn me into?"

"Orchid..."

Orchid wheeled around startled by a voice in the quiet as a tomb reservoir, "Show yourself."

"I am. I'm you", continued the mysterious voice.

Orchid ran her fingers along the stitches scars of her abdomen.

"That's right, I'm what they put inside of you. I'm your symbiote. Thankfully I"m adapting to become more compatible."

Orchid shook her head, "No, this can't be happening. I know... I'm dead and this is purgatory."

"Orchid, you aren't dead. You're very much alive - WE're very much alive."

"When I heard you speaking to me in my cell I thought I was insane. I'm glad to know I was wrong." Orchid began to bash the blast door with superhuman strength to escape from the room of doom. "But how is this physical change possible?"

"In laymen's terms? Everything in the universe is composed of atoms. I merely rearrange the bonds of yours to suit what form is necessary at the time."

"Neat trick but can you change me back to me once we're outta here?"

"As you wish. As we adapt to each other you'll have more conscious control of shifting into two alien forms."

"Wait... wait.... two? What's the other one?"

The blast door crumbled to the floor as Orchid broke through.

"This is the other form", said the voice as Orchid in a puff of matter changed into something akin to a squid. "Not only can you blast beams of energy but in this atmosphere you can fly."

Orchid looked and indeed she was floating. She saw tentacles and a somewhat gelatinous body in her new form. "Guess I won't be winning any beauty contests huh?"

"I believe there's a saying in this world - Beauty is in the eye of the beholder? You may not win one on THIS planet..."

Orchid began to swim in the air and as she did she began to fly down the tunnels of the underground base...

* * * * * * * * * *

Orchid's dream went black, her vision faded into nothingness.

"Good she's resting easier. The medication has done it's work. We'll need to monitor her through her recovery", said the nurse as she and the orderlies began to attach monitoring devices to the sleeping Orchid.

Doctor Stevens was a stern woman. Her auburn hair was kept in a tight bun. Her brown eyes had a steely glint to them. She was once a heroine, before she retired from that life, she was known as the Viridian Rose. She had garnered a reputation of being able to keep even the most head strong melee combatants on their feet no matter the circumstances. A reputation, that even as Doctor Stevens, she has kept adding to.

She eyed the nurse standing out side the patients room and sighed. She stepped into the room, the orderlies moving out of her way so she could get a clear look at this patient. Shiro gave her a cool, charming smile as she entered. His eyes were staring directly into hers, and now understood why the nurse had been flustered by him. She stood her ground, staring back into his eyes, "Why are you out of bed?"

Shiro replied, "I must find her."

"Find who?" Doctor Stevens asked, never breaking eye contact. Shiro stood watching, gazing intently at Doctor Stevens. He readjusted the bed sheet as he began to speak, "A woman. She's been calling my name. In my head. I can feel her. She knows who I am. I need to find the answers."

The sound of feet pounding against the linoleum outside his door and a woman's voice screaming his name brought everyone's attention to the door. Shiro sprang to life, as if drawn by instinct to the collapsed woman's side. He knelt beside her, gripping the bedsheet firmly in his hand. No one had seen him move. He had just seemed to appear beside her. Even he did not know how or why he was kneeling there. His mind raced with concern for the young woman and he did not even know why. His cool green eyes stared at her as he brushed an errant strand of hair from her face.

Doctor Stevens sighed as she glided towards the pair. <This always seems to happen on my shifts.> she sighed inwardly. She felt the confusion, the exhaustion, the pain in the woman's chest. She held out a hand, a small orb of green light drifted slowly towards the pair. The orb gave off a soothing light as it bathed the two in it's radiance. The orderlies stood dumbstruck at the past few seconds precedings. Doctor Stevens spoke briskly, "Perhaps we should get into the room and we can discuss what is going on here."

(( Combined Post ))

Shiro nodded towards the doctor. The look of concern on his face was evident, even though he had no idea who she was. Doctor Stevens stood, straightening out her uniform before speaking, "If you are able, lift her gently and carry her into the room and place her on the bed." Shiro did as he was instructed. He slipped his hands underneath her knees and back, lifting her gently. The orderlies moved out of his way as he carefully entered the the room. He placed her softly onto his bed.

Tessa's exhausted body and mind drifted as she lay there in the hallway. She dreamed of the briefing they'd gotten before they left.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++

"Now, you know this will be dangerous. Are you certain you do not want more people to accompany you?" Ms. De'Vore asked kindly.

"Non. It will be better if it is only the two of us, Madame. We know each other too well, and others might get hurt. If it is only us two, then the chances of us coming back raise, even a little." Tessa replied. She smiled at Shiro, taking his hand in hers, holding it tightly. "And if it is to be our last, I would wish to be with no one but my love. I do not wish to risk others." She looked resolutely back up at her friend and the leader of their resistance.

Shiro squeezed his love's hand back. He smiled, his cool green eyes shown with confidence, as he spoke, "That is right, Ms. De'Vore. I will gladly risk my own hide, but others I am not too keen on." He gave Tessa a smile and a wink, "I would say my love should stay behind and just let me go alone, but I know that she would still find away to come along anyway. We are ready for this Ms. De'Vore. We will be back, you can bet on that."

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++

Shiro kept one eye on the prone woman and one eye on Doctor Viridian. She stepped towards the bed, her eyes glancing between the two. She recognized the woman. She was the Jane Doe in Room 7-C, three doors down. She scanned the woman's prone form. A green sheen glossed over her eyes as they moved up and down the woman's form. She sighed, and a soft green wisp of vapor appeared from her mouth. The green wisp hovered over the woman, before sinking into her body.

Tessa's eyes flutterd open, wincing at the bright light, and the pain in her mind, she looked around her. She saw the doctor, and shook, unable to decide if she should tremble with fear or relief. Her eyes found her love, and she smiled, a few tears falling quietly onto the pillow.

"Oh mon amour, vous êtes sûr! Que s'est produit? Où sommes-nous?" she babbled at him rapidly in french, unable to stop the tears falling.

Shiro stared at her. It was as if his mind knew what she was saying yet he didn't know how he knew french. He gave her a smile, "Umm... I'm sorry, but..." He was cut off by Doctor Stevens coughing, she stood watching them. Shiro looked at her then returned his gaze to Tessa, "Do you know who I am?"

Tessa's eyes looked shocked, and hurt. She reached out for his hand, squeezing it as he held it out to her. "I should have known. You are Shiro. The Ace of Coins. You are my protector, my partner, my love. I do not know how we got here, but please remember. Remember our fight? Do you remember it? Mother Mayhem, and her Children... Ms. De'Vore sent us to gather information to help in the fight. She almost got us... please try to remember." Her eyes clouded over for a minute as she reached for his mind, trying to find the connection they once had. It was still there, but buried deeply, almost locked away. She sent a warm pulse of feeling down that link, and opened her eyes to look into his, and see if there was any sign of recognition.

Shiro's eyes opened wide. He stumbled a bit nearly falling over, luckily he was standing in front of a chair. He sat down, he was given alot of information. He wanted answers, and they seemed to be the truth. Doctor Stevens eyed the pair, an eyebrow arching at the mention of Mother Mayhem and Vanessa De'Vore. Shiro breathed in deeply, trying to acclimate to the answers. Then he felt it. Felt her in his mind, felt her completely, and knew that what she was saying was the truth. His cool green eyes fell onto her once more. "Ma cherie..." his voice was soft.

Tessa smiled happily as she felt him recognize her. "Oui mon amour." She looked up at the doctor. "Please... I am confused. I do not understand where we are. We were sent to Mother Mayhem to get information. We needed to stop her. But she found out we were there, and set a trap for us... unfortunately we fell right into her trap... I only just managed to get us away. But I think she found a way to intercept our becons, as this is -not- our world. Please... how did we get here? Where are we?"

Doctor Stevens took in the sight of the happily reunited lovers. A small, brief smile slid across her stern face. "My name is Doctor Valerie Stevens. You are currently residing in the Warhawk Clinic. It is a hospital designed specifically for those with extraordinary abilities. My I ask for both of your names? You two were quite a mystery for us and we need more information if we are to treat you two."

"Ah, yes. I am Tessa Adele Rousseau, this is Shiro. What other information would you like?"

Shiro's eyes glanced over at Doctor Stevens, a clipboard had appeared in her hands. She scribbled their names down on their charts. "Does Mister Shiro have a last name?" She began cooly. She watched as the pair shook their heads. She nodded, then continued, "Miss Rousseau you were found in the emergency medical transporters on site a week ago. Mister Shiro here, was brought in three days after being found by a local hero in Steel Canyon. He had apparantly fought off some Outcast. He was also in a coma-like state. We would like to know the nature of your powers, so as to provide the best care we can."

Tessa nodded and explained the phantoms she could summon, the ability to convince the mind to harm the body, and the protective shields she could place on those she needed to protect. She explained about her ability teleport, and to create a small ball of pure energy with which to knock foes out of her way, or keep them away from her.

Shiro listened as his love, Tessa, explained her powers. Doctor Stevens nodded in places, "Typical Carnival training for Illusionists. The teleportation and protective fields must be your own addition to the mix, or perhaps the Carnival of Light have much different training methods. That also explains some of the brainwave patterns we noticed during you CAT Scan." She turned to Shiro, "You on the other hand, do not appear to the run of the mill Carnival Strongman. The Carnival of Light must have different training methods for men."

Shiro shrugged. He may know who he is, but that still didn't help with everything. "I have no recollection of any powers, Doctor Stevens."

Doctor Stevens nodded, "I see. Your CAT Scan also had some odd brainwave patterns, nothing like your companions psychic abilities, just odd. Perhaps Miss Rousseau you can enlighten me on the Carnival of Light's male training program."

"All I can tell you for certain is what I have seen him do. He is très têtu... very stubborn. He refuses to back down from a fight, most often when I am in danger. Though we have argued about that, and he knows I am not a china doll to be wrapped in
cotton." here she grinned at him, wondering if he would remember that partiular fight. It was spectacular, her yelling at him in french and english, him just sitting there watching her with those lovely eyes, remaining calm in the face of her wrath. "About his other abilities... I have seen him pull from his own psionic energy and form weapons in his hands. Most often blades. Pour certain, I do not know if this is regular training or not." She stopped, wincing and closing her eyes for a moment.

"I see," Doctor Stevens commented as she continued scribbling away on the page, "You have abilities that are just now becoming known in Paragon City, Mister Shiro..."

"Just Shiro, please," He said with a smile.

"Okay then, Shiro," Doctor Stevens continued undisturbed by his interruption. "Can you demonstrate them Mis... I mean, Shiro."

Shiro shook his head. He had listened to Tessa's account of his abilities but could not began to fathom that he could do that. He gave Tessa a soft smile. Giving her the impression that yes he remembered the argument, but also what had preceded the
argument.

Tessa sighed, and looked back up at the doctor. "Please... I know you are trying to help, but I am so tired... can I rest for a while? I will not avoid your questions, I promise. I just need... to rest I suppose."

Doctor Stevens smiled, "Of course, of course. You both should rest. Luckily, this room was the only room available for you, Shiro at the time." Shiro finally took in his surroundings. It was a double. Another bed lay on the far side of the room near the window. "I shall let the staff know that room 7-C is vacant and I have authorized her to be moved into this room. Now rest you two."

Doctor Stevens ushered the orderlies out of the room and gave the pair a quick look as she too, stepped out of the room.
Tessa thanked the doctor with a warm smile, and looked back to her love. He honestly could not remember much, but hopefully that would change soon. She sighed, and scooted over on the bed, patting the space next to her. She was a slight girl, so she did not take up much room. "Please, love. I just need to hold you, to know you are here, and real."

Shiro smiled, the smile reaching his cool green eyes. "Of course, ma cherie," he spoke smoothly, sliding beside her.

Tessa curled up beside him, relaxing for the first time since she woke up. Her cheek on his shoulder, she lazily drew circles over his chest. "Mon amour, you should probably find pants before these people think we are oddballs." She chuckled, and smiled up at him. A wave of dizziness swept over her and she closed her eyes and yawned. "I'm for sleep... so tired..." she said, her speech slurring a bit as she drifted off.

"I will ask, when we awake, ma cherie," Shiro chuckled, "For now, we should rest."

As they drifted together down the river of sleep, her mind finally began to reknit some of the damage, connecting with his, and sharing memories, words, thoughts as they used to. Even in sleep, they could not help talking, and reminiscing... helping eachother to fix whatever had gone wrong, forming a tighter bond.

((I'd like to welcome our newest writers!! With a welcome to the Clinic!!!))

Kia held tightly to the hand rail as she pulled herself up the stairs. For the moment she wasn’t paying much attention to Kruth’T or Ian. She was lost in her own thoughts, and those being broadcast by others. Her short hair rose up slightly as she sensed out telepathically. Faint purples and pink energies swirled behind her eyes as she felt out into the psychic world.

There was more than the normal amount of psychic traffic traveling about, but that wasn’t the alarming part. The alarming part was how it was traveling. Most thoughts at least those of a telepathic nature traveled like ripples on a pond emanating outward, but these were traveling awkwardly. They were being echoed and warped.

’Shino? Chiro?’ There was so much psychic disturbance that she didn’t get the name right until the third echo reached her. ’Shiro’.

Kia had plenty of experience dealing with villains and knew that this wasn’t psychic shielding or dampening, the Clinic had plenty of that. This was something else entirely. This was someone plugged into the psychic network, someone who was immensely powerful.

Kia shuddered, and tried to make her psi presence as small as possible hoping to go unnoticed…

Jaime had her face pressed up against the glass of the Intensive Care Unit. They were used to see her there. It was where her master was, the one who had summoned her.

The glass was frosted over from Jaime’s touch, and she was drawing pretty pictures in the frost with her finger. She turned when she heard the faint music it took her a second to recognize it and to then associate it to the source.

---

Hali was still playing the ice flute while walking the halls; she carefully stepped around a janitor’s wet floor sign as she made her way, when Jamie suddenly skated around the corner. Jamie skated up to Hali and threw her tiny blue arms around Hali’s waist.

Hali embraced the young iceling and smiled, the wet floor froze around the pair as the janitor clung to his mop which was frozen in place while he struggled to maintain his footing.

I would like to say that Ella fought the good fight. That she held her ground against the Specialist, but that simply wasn’t true.

Ella had no defenses at all against the Specialist, and manacled as she was she only had one offensive option. This too didn’t work. The Specialist effortlessly sidestepped the defensive mechanism and went to work.

The first few seconds Ella fought with everything she could. Her young body glowed a vibrant golden light as she coursed with ridiculous amounts of strength that was useless against the manacles, and she knew it. She knew it deep down. On one of her ‘good’ days she had designed the manacles herself for this very purpose. She had all of the strength and then some to shred the manacles into pieces. To bend and rip and rend the titanium with her bare hands, but they were designed to resist with calculated leverage. They were designed to break her own arms, before the manacles would yield.

In seconds the fight was over and the golden glow faded. The defiant arrogance faded, the cold hard look in her eyes faded to softness and her body relaxed. There was an apologetic sorrowful look in her eyes. She didn’t need to say ‘I’m sorry’ it was felt though and though. And unlike the other Ella who would feign emotions it was sincere.

Ella sat on the ground of the cell. She was very uncomfortable in the manacles, but not in pain as long as she didn’t struggle against them.

The Specialist continued their work as Captain Roberts watched though the one way glass.

---

Eventually Kia turned back towards the stairs to see Kruth’T coming up. She had her arms wrapped tightly around herself, giving herself a hug.

“Let’s go this way” She nodded with her head, towards the lake, away from the hospital building.

Doctor Stevens returned to her office. As head of magical medicine she had a busy schedule, but this was important. Her office was simple, on the walls hung her diplomas. On her bookshelf were various ancient and modern texts on medicine. Above and behind her on prominent display was her war bow. To anyone with the slightest bit of extra sensory perception, the bow radiated a fine magic aura.

Doctor Stevens plopped down on her chair, sighing deeply. Her finger hovered over the comm button for a brief second. She took a small breath and pressed the button. The crackle of static was heard then a voice was heard, "Yes, Doctor Stevens?"

She paused for a moment before beginning, "Yes Nurse Monroe, can you please have someone from the psych ward come to my office? I have two patients in room 6-E that will need a full physical and psych evaluation as soon as they awaken. Thank you."

"Yes, Doctor," came the reply. Doctor Stevens reclined in her chair, waiting patiently.

Shiro dreamed peacefully. His arms were wrapped around Tessa's. His thoughts and hers converged helping restore a bit more of his memories. Many of his memories were still just dark spots, but his life with her had been restored. His life apart from her still remained blank.

In her memories, he was this calm protector who would fight till his last breath. He saw himself fighting against countless odds in the name of resistance. He was defiant and stubborn. Talking any challenge placed before him for the thrill of risk. For the adrenaline surge that risking it all gave him. He was a risk taker, dyed in the wool gambler. It was this risk, this apparent favor of chance and fate that gave him his title. The Ace of Coins.

Shiro felt a surge of pride upon remembering the day he had forgone his real name, to become Shiro the Ace of Coins. He also remembered his fights against Tyrant's goons. She helped him remember why he fought as hard as he did. Even in her dream, he marveled how he could have gotten so lucky during many of those missions.

Shiro eyes fluttered open. He had awaken, his mind had healed some of the damage Mother Mayhem had done.

Tessa: "Pardonnez-moi, monsieur, now that you bring it up, I can see him. I must go. Thank you so for your help. Perhaps we shall meet again."

Void Blazer only managed to utter a, "Now wait a second, you don't know where he i-" but before he was halfway through with his sentence, she was already gone. Letting out a small grunt, Void Blazer took a seat by the chair he was just sitting at. How do I keep doing that? It's like every person I meet seems to have somewhere to go. I thought this was a clinic for RELAXING. Still, it's like everyone has some big "purpose" or something. I just came here to become more "whole" but that's already settled, I think I even got rid of that voice thing.

With a sigh Void Blazer said,"Well, I guess I should get going too then." Standing up, he walked off towards the information desk.

((Jumpin' in feet first! Wahoo!))

"This must be the place," Jezabel grunted, and moved closer to the clinic. She staggered momentarily, clutching her side and grimacing. After a pause to catch her breath, the large woman made her way into the building, one hand pressed against her abdomen. "Excuse me," she began, then doubled over, letting out a hoarse cry of pain. The blood showed black against her dark gray hand when she lifted it up to look.

She swore quietly and reeled, looking around for directions to the ER.

Void Blazer continued walking towards the desk, till he noticed the newest arrival. His eyes went wide, and he rushed over to the woman, "Are you okay? What happened!?" How does this sort of stuff keep happening...?

As he looked her over for any wounds, the familiar voice of Agamar came into his mind..."You don't have time for this Void, you should be speaking to the vampire." A wave of pain went through his skull, causing him to clutch his head. The vampire....? "Yes, yet you don't know who I'm talking about?" Who...? Wait, Orchid? "Bingo, now leave this women alone, and go find the vampire woman, speak to her. Are we clear?" Why can't you just leave me alone? I thought you finally were gone. "It's never THAT simple Void Blazer, never. Though I suppose I taught you well enough for you to retaliate." Taught me well....? What? Yet there was no response this time.

How, no, WHY does he keep doing this to me? After a few seconds, Void Blazer's mind had cleared, and his attention back on the injured woman.

The security team at the gate sprang to action. A medical team was summoned immediately and would arrive in moments. Six security guards flooded out of the gate, all were trained as medics. Three of them set a perimeter around the unidentified woman (Jezabel) while three went to work on her. They ignored Void’s presences.

“Miss, you are at the Clinic and we are treating your wounds. Can you tell us your name?”

The second security/medic examined the abdomen wound, and decided direct pressure was helping it more. He quickly placed a trauma patch over the wound and held it firmly in place.

The third medic was looking for her hero ID card. It wouldn’t be the first time that a villain tried to access the Clinic by injury.

An ambulance was rushing down the driveway. It looked more like a rugged armored car painted white and orange with the decorations of an ambulance.

Kruth'T fallowed Kia up the stairs, for the moment lost in his own problems.
His translator was giving him a massive amount of mental feedback. Simply put, it was designed to read what Kruth'T thought at the device, and translate it into words that would be understandable. All of the telepathic noise that was flooding the area was causing some significant interference. Briefly, Kruth'T attempted to shield the device using his abilities. However, that proved fruitless.

Analise, and filter nonstandard thought patterens. He commanded the device mentally, in desperation. He figured that it would only have a slight chance of working.

Kruth'T nodded and started walking in the direction she had indicated. For a moment, Kruth'T allowed himself to enjoy the smell of the air.

Distant sounds of people moving rapidly snapped him back into reality. For a moment, he thought he heard Void's voice. However, when he looked back he saw nothing.

He then turned his attention back to Kia. "Question statement. Are you well? End Statement."

Scarelt Jezabel held out her ID card, eyes barely focusing behind her wraparound shades. "Jes.. Jessalyn Beall," she managed. "I..." She shook her head, trying to clear it. "I'm sorry, I'm not used to this."

She coughed, then let out another cry. "This shouldn't... shouldn't have happened." She looked back and forth between Void Blazer and the security/medic team. "It was just a group of Thorns, for... AGH, for crying... ...ing out loud."

As Orchid slept she alternated between shallow and deep sleep as the drug that had been administered to her by the nurse cycled through her body and that of her symbiote.

Between bouts of numb darkness and immobilized consciousness her symbiote would awaken then sleep. During it's waking phase Orchid would dream more dreams of the underground base.

* * * * * * * * * *

She was flying through the tunnels of The Council underground base in Striga. Her purpose was two-fold, to escape her captivity and to settle things with the doctor.

As she flew to a room the soldier on sentry alerted and a skirmish ensued. Orchid blasted the soldiers with negative energy rendering them unconscious, their life monitors alerting their Infirmary to teleport them away for treatment and recovery.

"So help me, when I find that doctor I'm going to make him suffer like he made me suffer..."

The symbiote spoke quietly and clearly, "You cannot. The Mandate states you may not take a human life."

Orchid paused halfway down a tunnel. "Mandate? What Mandate?"

The voice within Orchid began to explain. "When we were exiled on this planet it was because we chose adhere to The Mandate. The Mandate was created to aid in the fight against genocide of the human race on this planet you call Earth. Too long have we, the warshades in the employ of our overseers, allowed the extinction of intelligent life in the multiverse."

None of this made sense to Orchid, "What do you mean genocide of the human race?"

An audible sigh came from the symbiote as it continued. "Our Masters believed themselves superior to all sentient beings. Those they allowed to survive were due to some immediate value as slaves to them, all others were deemed inferior and sentenced to oblivion, what you call death."

"Whoa... wait... wait... Are you saying that you were a slave to these Overseers? What, exactly, was your purpose? And why were you exiled to Earth?" Orchid hovered in the hallway.

"Your species, humans, were deemed inferior to serve as slaves. I was a slave to the Overseers. I am what they call a warshade - a soldier in their destruction of unfit species. We have been observing the progress of humans since the dawn of time. Because of your warlike nature you held great promise in being absorbed by our masters. Unfortunately your resolve to the concepts of 'freedom' and 'free-will' in determining your own destinies has made you rebellious and unfit as slaves. Because some of us respected these concepts that made you so determined to live 'free' we were thought to have been infected with an ideal. Perhaps we were - 'freedom' is an appealing ideal if tempered with tolerance and patience. Those of us thought to have been infected were subsequently quarrantined and then exiled from our homeworld." Another audible sigh eminated from the symbiote inside of Orchid.

Orchid paused and hovered in thought for a minute. "Are you saying they banished you for wanting to be free?"

"In a word, yes. So those of us banished from our homeworld were loaded onto what you call a spaceship and we were jetisoned to land here on Earth."

Orchid was having trouble wrapping her brain around the concept of anything but a democratic society. It was totally incomprehensible that anyone would choose or be forced to live any other way. After all, it's all she knew living on Earth in Paragon City.

Orchid felt a slight pain in her heart that jolted her back to reality as a Council soldier on patrol fired a bullet through her gelatinous form hovering in the tunnel.

"We'll have to continue the history lesson later. Right now, I... we... need to get out of here alive."

* * * * * * * * * *

"Code Blue!" announced over the psychiatric ward intercom as the sound of squeaking wheels of a crashcart and stampeding rubber soles of shoes hurried to Orchid's room.

[At the Gate]

The presented card was quickly scanned, and in seconds her identify was confirmed. About the same time as the ambulance pulled up to the gate, Jezabel’s medical history was coming up.

The rear doors of the ambulance flung open and paramedics rushed out to take over. The security team quickly briefed them on what they knew and didn’t.

The first paramedic scanned Jezabel with a medical scanner, then flashed a green healing beam on the wound. The microscopic nanites immediately went to work repairing tissue damage, and stopping bleeding. Everything would hurt just the same for a while but it took her of the ‘life threatening’ category.

She was carefully lifted onto a gurney and would be hurried off to the emergency room for further treatment.

((Hello All and Thank you for being part of the Clinic.

I am thinking of jumping the RP time to the next day soon. I'm thinking possibly Monday August 20th.

If anyone would like to keep time progressing 'naturally' please PM me.

Anything that is currently ongoing should either be posted out by Monday or settled in PM between the parties involved.

If I get enough PM's to move the Monday date further off or cancel the time jump I will post the notice.

Thank you all, and your feedback is welcome

"That won't be necessary", said Orchid as her eyes opened and she caught the nurse's hand just ready to stab a menacing very long needled syringe into her heart.

The crashcart crew marvelled that Orchid was apparently alive, though there were no readings on the monitoring equipment hooked up to her.

Orchid released her grasp on the nurse, sat up and looked around. "I assure you I'm alright. Must've been a reaction to the medication you gave me - I'm still a bit woozy."

"Bu... but how?", stammered the nurse as she put away the syringe and checked for a pulse on Orchid's wrist.

Orchid pulled her arm away from the nurse and began disconnecting the monitoring devices stuck to her. "Medicine is full of small miracles - just chalk this up as one you've witnessed."

She handed the ends of the monitoring electrodes to the nurse, "I'm fine, really. I just need a glass of warm milk and a little rest while this wooziness wears off."

The medics left Orchid's room, a little disappointed they didn't get to shock someone back to life. The nurse left scratching her head after turning around for one more look at her charge. Orchid sat in bed a wry grin quietly spreading on her lips.

The symbiote spoke to it's host, "It's just a matter of time you know til the hunters come."

"Yes, I'm well aware of that", replied Orchid. "But the difficult question becomes... will be it be a void, a vampire or a vampire hunter?"

A glass of warm milk was delivered to Orchid and she sat deep in thought as she drank the warm smooth nourishment.
