This may not be kosher...but I need an artist
You might want to give more details about what is expected from both sides.
It's cool, but don't expect anyone doing it for free. The people who do free artwork are usually busy drawing in the "Daily Art" threads or only do a couple every once in a while. Artist's schedules are not something to trifle with.
A "quasi-fan fiction thing" as in a "copyright violation thing"?
If it's fan-fiction and he doesn't sell it.. it's not a big deal. I know in that link it says it is, but they arn't going to pursue a single person making a fan-fiction about an extremely popular character.
No one is going to go after him if there are a couple drawings of wolverine or something similar.
Basically, it's going to be done as if it were a real comic, so a six issue mini-series or so. I've got the ideas, I could write just as plain words, but I'd love to have this work out with art as well just to add to the storytelling. And yeah, I can't really pay people so if you're interested, send me a PM and I'll describe the project. You can see if its worth it at all to do it without pay.
Good luck with it. I have no doubt that you have a great vision in mind.
If you don'ty get many PMs, it might be because of th sheer amount of work it would involve.
a 20 page book would take me about 200 hours. Times that by 6 issues, and I thik you get a feeling of how much time would be involved.
Sure, there are faster artists out there, but to ask someone to do that out of the goodness of their heart... well (honestly), good luck.
Yeah, it's kind of a pipe dream, I know. Wish I could draw.
Well, there ARE some mediocre fan-made comics out there and then there are some EXTREMELY good ones at that (check out Bleedman's Grim Adventures, which draws characters from Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon TV shows as well as special appearances by random characters from other universes too). When people think of fan-made, they oftentimes don't get past the idea that these characters could be rewritten in a way that completely blows away the original design.
Well, I think the problem with this request lies mostly in the sheer amount of work you're requesting...I mean, to do a single page of a comic is like an equivalent of 1-8 images...then times that by 20. Then however many issues you want to release. I'd suggest trying to get a few pages at a time rather than asking for the whole thing all at once just simply due to the intimidating workload it would create.
I also suggest going on to the deviantart forums and try looking for a comic artist in the Projects forum.
Just my 2 cents and happy hunting.
Well, don't completely give up on the idea.
Certainly 16 to 24 pages (times however many "issues" you want) of comic book art is a lot of work. Especially if you're aiming for something more like level of detail and realism we see in mainstream stuff.
But - I'm sure that if you look far and wide enough, there ARE some budding, amateur comic art enthusiasts whose love of the medium, whose youthful energy, and whose hunger to do ANYthing "comic bookey" would make them jump at the chance to tackle your project, even for free.
They might see it as practice, they might want to be able to use the resulting work as part of their portfolio when they try to break into the business.
Granted, you might hook up with someone who's enthusiasm far exceeds their current draftsmanship. But if you both feel strongly about what you're doing - thats really all that matters. Who knows, you might just hook up with the next generation's comic art genius.
...and this isn't at all meant to be a slam against those who won't offer without due compensation, because, honestly, the time and effort involved in such a project is big, and should be respected.
But the world is big, the people on it are many. If its something that you really want to do, go for it, keep looking - a like mind is probably out there somewhere. Though its a risk of time and effort - there might be something wonderful as a result, and there might be other rewards down the line.
Y'know, it would be cool if we did something as a project on the forums, like every person participating draws one panel, and then we make it into a comic.
But yes, definitely don't give up!

That would be so awesome.
So I'm getting this artist on another board to draw me a promo picture...I'll see if that generates any interest.
So I've got this comic book project I really want to do...it's sort of a quasi-fan fiction thing, and I was looking to see if there was an artist out there who would mind drawing it. If this is totally not a cool thing to do on this forum, ignore me completely.
