I do a similar thing, with folks on Deviantart and where I hang out otherwise, with my Sanger character. I've got about... 30 of him that I did myself (ranging from my little ponies to the 5th rider of the apocalypse) and then a collection of art from conventions and such. 
I might get to do Speedy, we'll see once my elf project is less intense

speed the feat of which you speak is a universal impossibility. it has been proven in several scientific studies that a force field sorrounds thors assasin. this force field makes it so it is impossible for anyone to even get half as much art as he has. all people that have tried have spontaneously combusted

yeah, but thats only because the forcefield doesn't protect against talented catgirl artists. A combination that will surely be TA's downfall.
lol I know this is gonna be a tough run guys but I am up to 59 peices I know it's nowhere near TA's two hundred and seventy-something peices but it's a start.
TA's got money on his side so he's wayyyy ahead of where I'm at and will be for quite some time 
but a freindly rivalry never hurt nobody

plenty of people out there to rival him but most dont exceed the rank of annoying paper boy who keeps throwing his paper on the roof. some of the ( like rawr ) have gotten to the rank of kid who lights bag off poo on fire and puts mean bumper stickers on his car

Good luck on trying to topple the commander of commissions, Speedy. I'll be satisfied to get a comment from Thor's Assassin along the lines of 'That's a nice little collection you have there.'

While it's nice to have alot of art, there is something to quality over quantity. My gallery doesn't get alot of attention and I don't get alot of freebies. I am proud of the pieces I do have, and I think they're some of the best work posted on the forums. This current project I'm working on is really starting to come together too, and I hope it sets the bar to an even higher level.

Bayani has a very valid point. Don't compromise your character's ideal vision just to stockpile pieces with the intent of beating someone else's collection.
While it's nice to get freebies and to even win the occasional artpiece, it feels great having hunted down an artist whose style you like and convincing (and cajouling) them to commission your personal character into a great piece of art.
All I have are freebies so far! I'm not sticking to one character either! If I made a gallery I'd have a section for everyone's art and characters! I need more money! I'd love to put up a PayPal donation box, but I don't expect anyone to donate it will probably end up costing me money just to have it! One day I'll have gotten my act together! Kittens are cute! Err... yea!

I totally agree with that SMF.
First off I just want to say that having literally $0.00 monies to myself at any time for the past 2 years (minus gifts from friends and such) left little room for free spending. Therefor I couldn't get peices of art for speedster via commision if I wanted to, which I realy, realy, realy wanted and still do want to.
Ok with that embarrising tid bit over let me just say that this is not a demand or anything of the sort but more of a personal request. I just thought I could use TA's gallery as a good example of what a "fan" art gallery could contain.
The point of a "fan" art gallery is not to just showcase your best works of art but rather, and more importantly, to showcase ALL of the art your charecter gets whether it be fan based, commision based, or simply a gift from someone on the local boards you frequent. Now I understand that you and some other guys out there that have money to spend on commisions, both pricey and cheap, hold fast to the belief of Quality over quantity but for the record and this is just an example, but TA's gallery contains not only the fantastic but also the poorly done stuff. That shows the public that he is proud of his toon and that he is greatful to all who take the time to invest just a bit of their talent on his dream.
This is not so much of a competition as more of a guideline. I use TA's gallery as an examle of what I hope Speedster's collection will be someday.
Forgive me if I sound shallow, but when it comes to my toon, I'd rather have any art then none at all.
You know TA has like 400+ pieces though :P

I never intended to be in competition with anyone ever. I simply loved the style and character concept of TA and decided since I had a core love or art that I would get a couple pieces done. I believe it actually started with Celtic Bolt drawing TA first and it all blew up from there.
In the end and where I am currently at I have hundreds of pieces in several shapes,skills,quality,color,inked and penciled and digitaly rendered. I love seeing the different ways people can make TA and use their own vision. Speedy is right, this was never intended to be the "elite" gallery but more of a collection of art done by THIS community of artists. Look at my gallery and you'll see that I have tried to aquire a piece from every artist that comes through. Why? Because I think it will be fun when this ends and I can look back and say "what a great bunch of people".
Yeah I have several "quality" pieces of art that fit that bill that Bayani talks about but I also have all the pieces from the starting out artists that spent probably just as long and are just as proud of their accomplishments as well.
So yeah I always encourage people to collect art and support artists as a whole.

If anyone, ANYONE has the 'elite' gallery, it would have to be CB"s gallery of all the works he has done.

Personally, having "alot" of art is really pointless if they are of low quality. With art, quality is much more important than quantity. Given the choice, I'd take 1 Farlow over 20 JTran's anyday...*chuckle*
After looking at all the fine artists here and some of the new ones joining us evey day I decided to have a round two of my art ho-eness :P so let's get this shindig underway!

Would you like to help create a galley that will in time rival that of even Thor's Assassian's?
Well, I'm creating an ever growing collection of Striking Speedster art and I want to have all of you fine artists out there in it. I know the gallery isn't to great right now but once I have a total of 100 peices of art or more to feature in it I will be creating a website devoted to the art of Speedster.
On said Website, it will contain a gallery, links to artists' websites, Have a featured artist of the week, a guestbook where people can come and comment on the peices I have collected, and so much more.
So please help me create one of the best galleries in the CoH community.
If you would like to submit a peice for the gallery please use this as your refrence. All art will be welcomed and added to the gallery.
