COH stuff found on DeviantArt
Huh. I did a search, and really, it seems like pretty every single one of those bondage pics was commissioned by one person, of his characters.
Though there is a lot of really awesome art work, I think I need to go browsing and pounce on some of those artists.
What? Don't look at me like that! I can recognize good art when I see it, despite the subject matter!!!
Really!!!
*halo*
Edit: I don't even show up til page 12
well very light bondage as well as spanking is a staple of the good girl /cheescake/betty page/damsel in distress / pulp action art trend , I find that art style enjoyable tho I think I have only ever drawn all of one pic in that vain as most of my stuff is fairly vanialla
I would guess folks that enjoy putting their characters thru other more mature things are acting out fantasys or possiable adult what if scenerios .
my question in return is why does half of the female heroines get roleplayed or drawn as lesbians
Because half of them are men
<.<
>.>
okies just did my deviant art check and it seems the majority of City of Heroes Bondage pictures are of a character known as Parity
so not so much a giant bondage issue so much as a certain player with a liking of his or her heroine being tied up
very light stuff for the most part
...might as well have posted this on the Virtue forums as I originally intended anyways, judging from the people who replied (not that I mind). I obviously didn't take that close of a look as not all of them were that appealing to my tastes, but I definitely remember one of a character called Heartbreaker or Heart Breaker in there.
As for it being light bondage stuff... if it was hardcore, I wouldn't have an issue understanding the motivation I guess. It's more like going through Superdickery's Wonder Woman section than picking up an issue of Marquis.

Two things i now know
1) You all are a curious bunch
2) I need to catagorize my with "city of heroes" instead of "coh"
Yeah... well that's all DA will allow anyway. :P
But it is kind of a common theme too, for the hero to get captured by the bad guys, only to escape and smush said bad guy later on! That might be some of the appeal too.

I was going to mention Superdickery's WW section. That had me at a loss for words the entire time I was going through it
We are just following you around
you do know Virtue has a very high artist ratio and we are all chatty .
IMHO the light damesel in distress/Betti Page type art is about as sultry or erotic as I feel comfortable drawing personally but I have friends that draw some rather wild things that make me blink or take me aback .
I think for some its fantasy roleplay done thru pictures of their characters , for others its varying levels of being comfortable with alternative sexuality weather drawn or seen .
IMHO
Hmm.... me thinks scarfy needs to IM me

In all seriousness - it doesn't surprise me at all. ^^ Not the least because it is a common theme to tie superheroines up (Seriously... as mentioned before, WW spent alot of time in uhh... 'interesting' positions)
To go further - and this kinda creeped me out; not so much due to the subject matter but because of the brazeness - I was invited to an SG on Liberty once which I can only describe as uhh... "interesting" in theme. The character I was playing, in hindsight... did look kind of bondage themey... wasn't the intention but she's got ripped tights and is covered in chains <'x'> There's a freakin storyline reason >.< so don't look at me like that!
But yeah <@.@> it was a little freaky. Also there's at least 3 people in my SG (which I might add is generally a 'wholesome environment') who uhm... have admitted 'interesting' tastes. Its not offensive or anything at all; but there definitely seems to be a decided kink to the CoH community.
I also don't think that's a *bad* thing per-se... most of these individuals I'm talking about are also really cool people <@.o> I may not understand the facination (well, like Scarf I can see the attraction to very light stuff - but the heavier uhh... I dun get <x_X> but like I say... they're good people so it doesn't really freak me out except for how incredibly open they are about it <'x'> I may not seem that way - but I'm actually quite shy lol <;_;> this community lets me open up WAY more than usual >.>

Same here, I'm much less outgoing in real life... And I don't really know why.
As stated before, ya, the bondage pieces come about for the same reason we play the game in the first place, light fantasy fulfillment and escapism. As for the bondage thing, like has been mentioned, it does go hand in hand with the genre. After all, the whole hero thing is all about fighting and violence (granted, not realistic or splatter punk type violence, but still, it sure as hell isn't about dramas of the heart )... it only stands to reason the sex side of it would be about the same.
Oh, and Squirrel, I don't think it's CoH that has a higher level of kink then what you would have thought, I think it's all of human kind that does

It's amazing Squirrel.
I highly reccomend it. Just 2 TPB's too, so it's not like your on the hook collectin issues forever.
Guy's art can get very Cthulu'ish and since it's in black'n'white, it makes it even more surreal and scary.

What's TPB? >.>;
I love black and white in comics btw >.> one of the reasons I love manga. Color is *wonderful* for covers and important stills... but I really don't like it in most action shots <'x'> (With exceptions of course)
So B&W = big plus for me <,<

TPB= Trade Paper Back.
Basically all the collected issues with some goodies. In this case, Intros, Pinups, Cover Gallery.
Ahh cool <@.@> so not too expensive... I like!
(I also *LOVE* series that actually *end*; never-ending series is one of the big reasons I dislike western comics largely; sure, a given arc might be great; but what happens when they retcon it out 20 years later? <X.x> /ugh; I just prefer ya know... "a story"; rather than 2,000 stories with the same char <@.@>
Err... what I mean to say is... I think this looks cool and I may get it <@.@> if I can find monies.

Out of sheer curiosity, I did a search for City of Heroes on DeviantArt to see what else there was aside from the usual suspects. Expectably, there was a ton of stuff, mostly comissions done by random people for COH players they knew. So far, so good.
But then I noticed a really interesting trend. About once per page of thumbnails I'd stumble over a picture of a female character, bound and gagged and usually placed in a somewhat demeaning pose. Usually comissioned by the players of the characters depicted.
Now, I don't have an issue with bondage in itself. Nor with bondage art for that matter. I'm just wondering what's up with that. I'm just curious if anybody has any idea what the players' motivation (aside from enjoying bondage art) would be for there to be such a notable amount of various comissions around. Are COH players just kinky? I know we have a high amount of same gender oriented people (bloody word filter), so it wouldn't surprise me if the kink factor was up there too. But right now I'm just wondering.
So, I figured if anybody around here would have insight into this stuff, I'd find them here. Anybody know what's up with all the bondage stuff?
