Gill and Lush - By Juggertha

Ok all, I've been seeing a whole lot of art heading in MMOART's direction. Some of it has really inspired me.. so, I decided to do one myself. i wasn't sure if I was going to enter their contest or not, but what they hay, why not right?

This is my attempt at a "couples shot" for the pair. I hope that they like it (regardless of a win).

Gill and Lush

*Personally, I think this may be my best yet. It involves quite a lot of things that I've been working on of late, and I htink I brought them all into this shot with a nice blend)

Eh....crap....

*crumples up entry*

Bah. *sits around pissed that's Jugg's entry looks so freakin' awesome and he wishes he could do that type of stuff*

((Just out of total curiosity and a lack of search-foo... what program do you use for all your stuff?))

Posted

I did it in photoshop.

But please enter man.. seriously, judging is in the ye of the beholder. I'd be really sad if this post discouraged anyone. I really didn't mean it that way.

That is really nice! And Hex, uncrumple your entry and finish it up!

Posted

:P I was just kidding. That's pretty amazing especially for photoshop.

You're making me wanna finish up my entry now :P

Now THAT"S what I like to hear!

(BTW, do you think there are programs out there better than PS for this type of thing?)

Hmm...

Illustrator might be good for vector graphics... but you just don't have all the flexibility of raster. But you will keep the quality, and you can do more with pure vectors there than you can with Photoshop. It's a pretty amazing program once you learn it.

I used to dink around with Corel Draw for doing logos and such.

The nice thing about vector graphics is... you can change reolution and it doesn't get a case of the jaggies. Also the file size isn't determined by it's dimensions, but by how many objects you have in it.

The tricky part is doing your shading with "blends"... instead of directly airbrushing or painting your shading, you kinda have to 'draw' the highlight shape and then tell the program to gradually step it out from one shape to the other.

It's a little tricky... but when done well it looks teh awesome.

Hey! That's pretty sweet, Jug! I obviously need to develop more patience in Photoshop...

Bootylicious.

I really like that one, Jugg. Your use of photoshop is really interesting - gives it a strong airbrush feel. My guess is you used to use airbrush extensively.

Posted

Nice Jug. I love the color coordination as well!

Posted

Fantastic work, Juggs!

Posted

Very nice. Now I need to work on my own some more.

Always good stuff Juggy <^_^> rawr! >_<

Wish I had time to really put the polish on my own entry <;_;> prolly won't actually enter it; but I am happy how it came out still.

Yours though, definitely ><b <^o^> so many good pieces comming out of this contest!

You know, it's funny because I've never used a "real" airbrush. I'm a pen and pencil man for the most part (couldn't een stand painting when I was younger).

It wasn't until PS that I started to love colors.

Pretty good, but shouldn't Gill have kheldian energy coming out of his hands?

Posted

Yeah, I thought about that. But the green just seemed to fit a lot better. If he wants, I can change it though.

Posted

Well, Kheldian energy was green in the comic! <@.@> so that's somethin!

There's always Painter. Whether or not it's better is an "eye of the beholder" type of thing. I know Gill uses both Painter and Photoshop.

Photoshop can do pretty much anything you need it to do, 2d wise. It's one of the most amazing and complete graphics programs I've ever seen.

Perhaps they should make "Paintershop" <o.O> and thus, we would rule the world! <O.O>;;

Or not <. .>;

There is a plugin for Photoshop called Deep Paint that emulates Painter. I've never managed to get it to work quite right though...

FWIW...I find Painter has a much steeper learning curve that Photoshop, and I don't care for the way it does layers (mostly because I'm far too used to the way Photoshop does). But I know people that do absolutely beautiful work with it as well
