Issue #15

No, Gill, you're right. It was atrocious. It kinda looked someone snorted paint and then sneezed on the page.

Edit: I haven't seen Issue 15 yet, whoops! However, if it's anything like the art in Issue 14 (At least near the end of it), my opinions still stands.

Agreed. I have happened to get my mitts on a couple of the Top Cow issues, one that I somewhat liked had Freedom Phalanx meet the Asian super group. Apparently a portal opened letting City of Villians invade Brikstown, but whenever I read these, it feels like it is more of a promotion of what is going on with the game instead of a fresh storyline. The reason I quit reading it, I have already bought the game guys, and I have two accounts, I don't need to be sold anything else.

I am still reading them on the ftp site.

I think some of you, while not completely wrong, are quite harsh.

The first serie was good . It was nice to see the storie focus on secondary characters. The art was good too but what I liked the most about it was that is was consistent, it stayed on the same level through out the 12 issue ru.

The new serie started out good too. It gave us a better idea of who were the big guys in the CoH universe. As far as the storie goes my main problem is that it has becomefocussed on one character (Manticore) who I do not relate to. As far as art is concerned it started well but contrary to the first serie it keeps fluctuating from issue to isssue (and even sometime within an issue). The last issue I read (#14) was the worse. To my amateurish eye the inking is the worse part of it . The colors themselves look good, The lettering is standard. The writing is no better or worse thant the issue just before and the art itself does not (again to my eye) have major problems. The inking however looks to say the least , rushed. I personaly like crisp well defined inks that give value to the pencils underneat. This inking they did does exactly the reverse. It just makes everything look flat.

I do hope that 15 is better

Well, to my more educated eye, the inking was atrocious It was like the inker was trying a rough kind of style but without the strong lighting that makes the work of others who use that style effective. I don't necessarily need crisp lines, but I do need the inker to have an idea of where the light is coming from in the panel.

The pencils weren't bad, but not as good as what had been seen before in the book. A lot of the compositions were really understated. Which I guess I can see for part of the book, since there was a lot of talking head action, but overall I wasn't digging it.

I liked Brandon's work on the Blue King comics, but, to be brutally honest, I've liked a lot of the CoH commissions he's done since then a lot more. It makes me wonder about how tight the deadlines are in the comic book world. I've never attempted to do something on a schedule like that.

You know what would rock? If Brandon found an inker to collaborate with...someone really good at inking, like, you know, Jomaro.... and put together some sample pages for Top Cow....

And I'll throw in my stuff for the back art. Just mess up the rest of the people who think mine and Brandon's artwork is "old fashioned"!!!

Well, back to the drawing table!!

Hey Plas, I've noticed that you've started the sacrificing for more than one artist... Good to know that it's for a good cause!! LOL

Well, the idea I was working on was based on pencilling and inking is a lot of work for a monthly.

So how about Jomaro pencilling, Tim inking, Graver on colors? And Doug Shuler doing the covers in Poser/Photoshop!

Okay, that would be pretty much the best comic book art ever. It wouldnt even need a story for me to buy it!

Hmmm, but if what you're asking for is change, isn't Tzeench the Chaos Power to call?

(and, on a side note, does anybody remember that one-shot City Of Heroes comic that came before even the Blue King run? It may have only been a downloadable (as separate PDF pages, if I remember correctly!) comic. It had the new hero showing up on the tram, and waltzing into a Trial zone, and Statesman eventually joined in and they did one of those multiple bomb disarming missions? I rather liked it.

Not having T!M on colors is kinda of travisty in my eyes..he's fantastic on his coloring. But I mean we're just thinking up fantasy artist collaborations.

I'd save Doug for the centerfold pages, his work needs that large 2 page space.

Keep Graver on those covers, his work would make you stop at the newstands just to see what's going on. Wait I know Graver can do the creepy villain covers, Doug is great on heroic images!

/em plot

Ohhhh yeah

Well, yeah, but Jomaro is outstanding at inking too. I was just trying to get as many artists in there as possible, to make it feasable
