The Imperial: Finished
[ QUOTE ]
I'm curious about the portrait of the woman, namely, is it a representation of what he's looking at in the open locket? Or am I reading too much into it?

Funny, I was wondering the same thing. Very nice as always Graver. I love the imagery in this one and again, the 'mood'.
Honestly, I just can't get over the old-world style wall paper; fading and tattered newspaper clippings and placards. Then the book and glass of wine - Was he just reading it and stopped to wonder back to days gone by and remind himself why he does what he does?
The picture makes me think and imagine a story. That's what art should do, or at least that's how I feel about art.
amazing piece graver..
i like the little things you put in the background, from the newspaper to the globe to the foot stool to the chair design..
bravo!

Actually - I know what he's looking at! ><
Its a pearl, mentioned in The Imperial's bio - its the thing that makes him immortal; even though if he didn't have so much of a feeling of responsibility - he'd just let it go and fade away.
<o.o>; A bio has to be damn good for me to pay that much attention!
A Warrior's Friend: ID 335212 - Help Infernal save Valkyrie from Battle Maiden.
Above Mars Part 1: The Wellington: ID 159769 - Save Mars by destroying a monstrous battleship from the inside!
>.> My DA page, where I attempt to art.
Incredible. I love things like this.
It absolutely radiates: "I may be an old dog, but I've still got a few tricks."
I don't know if that's what you were going for, but in any case, the piece is amazing.
Love it!
I feel...sad for him? Great job Grav!

That's just beautiful! And very sweet. Your colors just make it amazing.
<checks wallet to see if it has magically filled yet>
Darn it! Still empty.
ah, thanks all! I'm glad everyone digs it... and damned glad the Imperial does.
This was a piece that I'd been looking forwards to doing ever since it came across my desk and the imagery hit me. I'm a sucker for anything sepia toned and have a great fondness for old things. There was actually a period where the only color I used was raw umber in an attempt to make my paintings have the same feeling as an old faded sepia toned photo. I have many brown paintings still
Now, as for what the Imperial is looking at, I'll leave that one up to the viewers to decide for themselves. I like wonder, and if I were to just up and say definitively, well, that would just take all the wonder out of it
Darkjedi, yours is on my desk right now... it's just taking me a little while since I'm working on that one in the times I'm not working on these watercolors. I swear I'll have some poses for you to go over very soon... and the canvas is still receiving my neurotically compulsive gesso - sand - gesso treatment. Soon... soon (tm). And about the same thing for you SuperMaoriFulla. Rack is currently in slot #3 right after Mr Shock. Your time is almost at hand... and oh, the images I have in my head for that one already
Now *glares at Starchasm and The Foo* as for this whole taking my head thing... no, not gonna happen. If anyone gets my head, it'll be because I decided to give it to them. So, if your nice, I might decide to give you hea... waitaminut...
