On how to successfully complete the respec trial on CoV. Made it to the Thorn Tree, ended up quittin gafter many attempts and being well over 50k in debt.

Personally, this missions is a bunch of [censored]. The vines respawn, the Thorn Tree itself is just a [censored] with insane aggro range. So, Im curious if there is anyone with any ideas or ways that they have completed this.

And I must say, after tonight, and after these attempts, Im ready to quit this game because of the horse crap mission just to get a respec. I hear that the CoH respec trials are 10000000000000% easier... [censored]. So, if youve read past my extreme pissed off attitude, (which I apologize for) please, and i stress... PLEASE post some suggestions.

P.S. Hopefully this is the right category, but probly not. Knowing my luck, but im asking for someone stradegy for this mission.

From what I understand you need to do some major debuffing to it. A /rad works very well. I hope this helped.

Debuff debuff debuff shouldn't be the mantra, but it certainly makes things easier.

Any team over the size of 6 is a definite "no." 4-6 is the ideal team size for the trial, cause anything after that the vine spawn just becomes ridiculous. Running from memory, which mine would be considered "dodgy" at the best of times, I think at 6 members the vine spawn is 30-40, I think 24 at 4 team members... and 92 or 96 with 8. [censored] would be a good term to describe that. Almost triple with just the addition of 2 members.

Another easy way to go about this, say for example your in a team of 4. 2 level 24's, 2 level... oh we'll say in their 30's. BEFORE you get the trial, Malefactor to the lowest levels you can. BEFORE you even talk to Sparcetrile (or however it's spelled.) In our example, the 2 level 24's would mal the 30's down to 24's. Also, make sure everyone is set to "Villainous" as their difficulty. Most likely only the leader it matters, but hey... we want to be sure.

Got your mission? Good... un-mal and go kill them pesky CoT. Done? Mal down again, get your next mission... stay malefactored and enter the mission. Once everyone is in, un-mal and lackey up. So, going by our example again, the 24's would Lackey up to the 30's. Do the mission, should be quite easy...

Wash, rinse, repeat for each mission.

There are easier ways to do this, but I won't get into it here as it involves logging off and a TPing stalker (or someone with powers equiv to hide.)

Now the end, hopefully all the baddies should be well below your current lackeyed levels and HOPEFULLY, the tree shouldn't be able to one shot anyone. Run the circuit around the tree, killing all the CoT you see, then run the circuit again killing vines. Should be straight forward after that.

Hope this helps!

ow well there goes that exploit

That exploit has apparently been fixed.Gimme a sec.....

OK, back. Here's a thread where someone had your issue. I put my 2 cents in as well.

What, Villains coped with the differences between the obvious disparity between respec trial difficulties between CoV/CoH and it's an exploit?

It still wasn't a complete cake walk using mal/lk...

And given the way that you NEED to respec to keep a viable build as you level into the higher zones and arcs...

Ah well.

Thing is (for me at least) the first few runs on the CoH respec trial was probmatic. Then after it's been done so many times it becomes nothing more then a series of predetermined moves..

Basically the CoV trial is hard the first couple times. Now I'm able to run through it without breaking a sweat. Long story short. Run the outside of the room and wipe out the CoT in the area. After the room is clear of everything but the AV and vines. You start at it's back and work your way around killing the vines untill your counter is at 0. At which point you can move in for the AV kill (Or take a QUICK moment to regroup.) While attacking the AV the vines will respawn. This is where most teams divert attention back on the vines, and I say to you NO. It's at this point that you completely IGNORE the vines and continue on your way with the AV (If you have a MM on the team they're good with their pets to keep the vine aggro away from your group, but that's a personal call depending on you teams capibilities). Keep your team tightly packed and any Corruptor,Mastermind, or dominator you have spamming heals, buffs, and debuffs.

I'll admit that while they had the AVs uber buffed the trial was extremely hard, but then again all AV mishs where horrid without the right team. Since they have lowered the AV scale it's become nothing more then a series of power clicks again. My 2 cents. Hope it helps a little.

There are 3 kinds of people in this world
The kind that makes things happen

The kind that watch things happen

And then there are those of us who keep asking "WTH just happened!"

All these ideas sound awesome. Since my first post I have yet to give it another go. Ive been cooling off playing my dom. In any case, I will surely put these ideas to use and see what happens.

And just for the record, the times that I have attempted it, once with 4 people, there were 30 vines. Another time with 6 people and there were 63 vines i believe. I dont know what the scale is, whether lvl and amount of people contribute to the amount of vines, or if its just the number of members in the TF.

Thanks in advance for ALL of your input, after another go at this AV I'll be back to post what worked and extend more thanks to those that provided advice.

Exactly what I would have said. Just finished this for the first time over the weekend. Did a team of 5, had 48 vines. Very important not to attack any vines until all the mobs are clear. Attacking vines aggros the AV. Sometimes you have to be careful with MM pets.

I ended up having help from some higher people in my SG. They got auto-exem to 33, and then sked us that were in the 20s. Evreything in the SF was 32-33 that way, and not too hard at all. Our only deaths were the corruptor and mm during vine clearing phase.

Bull. I've been playing a couple years (probably 2 or 3 thousand hours) and to date I have only gotten one respec token which I have yet to use. My level 50 grav controller didn't even use a free respec until several months after she hit level 50. Respecs are needed at times but a lot of people seem to use the things as a cruch. Instead of figuring out how they could solve their problems by swapping out some enhancers to their existing powers (or just using their existing powers smarter), they pull a respec and move lots of powers around.

To the topic - yeah, the vines are the key. They aren't hard to kill or anything but you have to kill them quickly. If three brutes are all smashing on one vine then you're wasting attacks and wasting time. Squishies should try and stick to the outer vines to help avoid annoying the tree itself, which can kill low hp characters VERY fast. Stealth powers are real handy in here.

I've found that, for me at least, once you've found the "trick" to the CoV respec, it's much easier and more managable than the CoH respec.

I play on Virtue and have all 12 slots full and I'm tired of listing them all here so NYAH!

Well, I finally got the respec accomplished. Had some help from a few higher lvl in the sg which were de-leveled down to 33 of course. We had a team of 6, and the de-levelees lackeyd the the other 3 so our lvl range was pretty close.

Cleared the CoT without touching the vines. After they were cleared, we started killing vines, starting on the Trees left side moving in a counter-clockwise direction leaving the vines directly in for of the tree for last. (63 vines to be exact.) The tree itself lasted maybe 30 seconds.

Again I thank all who provided advice as it was all helpfull. And AGAIN, my apologies for the attitude in my starting post.

If you have problems with the vines respawning faster than you can kill, I encountered similar problem as well. It's a team of 4 people, and there are 30 vines to kill. For safe vine killing, kill those at the back of the tree(in the northern part of the map). However, those at the back are usually not enough. One way to do it is to ask a mastermind to send pets to kill those in front of the tree while the others work on those at the back.

I also heard that the vine's health don't regen, maybe another tactic is to beat the vines but not killing them, and then kill them all real quick.

Hope that it helps!
