True. Burn could use a redesign, more for tankers than brutes, but it's not too useful for brutes either. Temperature Protection isn't useful. Still, for brutes the key powers are mostly good, and I don't want to take all the powers. I need to fit in some pool powers. If they get the key powers like Healing Flames working well, my brute is happy, although my tanker would still have some complaints.

I have great fun with my Fire/Fire. Still my favorite villain combo.

Yes my dark/fire brute is a PvE legend <------- really good pve toons that suck in PvP. Dark melee sucks in PvP, can't kill anything and the -acc doesn't do much against people with acc SOs slotted. My tier 9 attack is a dot with immoblize??? Weak. Fire..........while kicks A## in pve is really lackluster in PvP. It has useless powers such as Fiery Aura good in pve, the damage is bad with no fury and you DON"T get fury in pvp. Burn doesn't work a damn in both pvp pve, temp protect, and you have to run a crap load of toggles..............hes a good Pve toon. Booty in pvp. I wish he was better but oh well..........he might be the PL toon of choice though.....hopefully.

I was not sure where to post this question, so here it is. When will you restore burn back to being a viable power? With herding precluded it would appear that the nerf to burn is now moot; or for that matter, the tank nerf's in general. I would like to know when burn will be restored and if not, why?

Ummm ...

Because it did nearly nuke-level damage, cost a pittance for endurance, and was awfully close to being perma? Hell, at one point it was STACKABLE.

I miss burn as much as anyone, but it was INSANELY over-powered. It ain't coming back to its I3 goodness. Give it up. The devs have already explained the nerfings to burn several times.

However ... burn is now buffable by assault, reds, fiery embrace, buildup, fulcrum shift, siphon power and god knows what else. On Test, BU + FE came close to doubling its damage. (i.e, damage capped with 3 green damage SOs). If you team up with someone who has an AoE immobilze, slow, or hold, it's all good.

And that's the point: aside from the recharge, it can be made almost as good as it was back in the day. But, like most other powers in the game, it needs some third party help to reach its fullest potential. To me, that's a pretty fair trade-off.

However, I would love to see temp prot or burn retooled into giving some kind KB / non-annoying immob protection. Even seeing burn turned into another PBAoE damage toggle, like a small AoE BA, would be good. I'd even love to see a whole bunch of 1s go up. The damage output would be down, but I'd like the old-school feel, and not having to take acrobatics would be a nice touch.

Reconstruction is still faster than Healing Flames. It really doesn't need a buff.


The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

Meh, I made a SS/Fire Brute for the RV event and I wasn't particularly worse than anyone else when they didn't have their level 38 power (if any) up.

Don't utterly diss burn now, at least in PvE. I specifically made that character because I wanted to try Rage + Burn. With a set like SS that can keep mobs on their rump, flattening someone and dropping a burn patch on them didn't suck. I was ticking 12s off of Wardens. I couldn't keep them in place for continuous burning, but I could keep them in one burn patch for at least 3/4 of its duration - the patch doesn't live very long.

Also Rage + Fiery Embrace was just freaking gross for burst damage. I smacked a Scrapper for a 650 point KoB. It didn't make him very happy.

Now, given the conditions on offensive use of Burn (you need to be able to root or KD people) I still don't see the point in 17.5% vs 25% heal gimpage. But at least the recharge change is a positive start.
