That's waste of prestige in my opinion. They last only for a minute or two and when they're used up, they're gone. You're best bet is just saving up for a generator or if you have one already, place two circuit breakers next to it.

[/ QUOTE ]

Waitaminnit... Caps self-destruct when used? OK, yeah, in that case, using them as a non-emergency power source would indeed be bad. I assumed that, after they ran out of power, they'd still be there and just need to "recharge" (i.e., wait until the next raid, or some fixed period of time if usable outside of raids) before providing power again.

Now I get what you were saying... Caps suck even more than I thought.

Well, while i understand that you don't like them, do keep in mind that they can be the difference between surviving a Raid and not. After all, if the Raiders manage to destroy your Generator, then those things will allow you to continue to res in your base. They'll continue to provide the Control you need for your base to function. They can generate the energy for your defenses. They aren't, by far, perfect, but they are still useful, just not in the way you intended.

Squeezing things into the smallest plot by using a Choke Point is 2X.

[/ QUOTE ]

Okay people, let me spell it out, since "Tetris Is Fun" didn't do it...

You don't have to use the Choke Point. I swear. Take it out. See that space between the Teleport Chamber and Energy Terminal? A door can be there. Now all you do is swap places between the Energy Terminal and the Containment Alcolve, have the Control Room connect to the -new- placement of the Energy Terminal, and you're set.

It is entirey possible to get a Raidable base, with the 3x3 Teleport Chamber that doesn't cost you "2X", but just X. I promise.

I'll be digging around, and the next update will give pics of possible Raidable Bases using the minimum. It's 100% possible to make that base without the Choke Point. I was just using it as an example because I liked how he had set it up, and it uses one of each room (except decorative).

[/ QUOTE ]

She's right. Instead of putting a choke point in there, you could squeeze in a second control room for 100 K or so, but you would have to use another 1x4 room.

No, you don't need to put a second control room there...

Arg, you don't have to put <anything> there. You can affectively remove that choke point, and it won't matter, because you can add a Doorway between the teleport chamber and energy room!

Go look back at Kong's drawing and count the number of rooms on that plot. It's 8 which means if you remove the choke point then you'll have 7 and not enough to be raid worthy. Therefore a lower cost alternative to the choke point would be another 1x4 control room if you really wanted a raid base on the small plot and be able to fit the tech transporter in.

Why do people assume that everyone knows everything?

Please more details about getting the various items working in the base. For example I built a teleport pad that is completely useless because it says it needs teleport beacons. I have all the beacon badges, how do I build the beacons?

You don't build beacons. Enter the base editor and walk into the transport/teleport room. Now click on the Place Item and then go to the Teleport tab, either TEch or Arcane. All the beacons that you have collected up to that point should be there for sale at 10 K a piece. Buy the beacons and place two per telepad on the wall near to the telepads. In the way that my base is set up, I have two telepads on one side of theroom and the beacons on the wall directly across from the telepads. There are two beacons in front of each telepad showing the destination that the telepad will take you.

Now to use the telepad (the tech version at least) walk into it and scroll into the first person. Now just click on the computer in the telepad and it should bring up a menu as to which zones you can go to.

I'm currently having a problem with adding more rooms to our VG Base. I've set it up in such a manner that I've left 2 rather clear tiles available to place a room (another workshop so I can have an expert machine too). I have a screenie to explain easier: Base Screenie

Now, see the red outline there where I'm placing a room? the reason it gives for me not being able to place it is "Room cannot be placed because it may not be reachable from the entrance". But the problem is that I've cleared out the tile I wish to link it to. In order for me to place this room, do I have to delete the huge room I made? I love that thing and it took me about 3 hours to make all pretty-like...

I can't see very well from that angle, but it looks like you've got a cabinet or wall decoration blocking the creation of the doorway.

Try clearing either (or both) of the areas I've circled here.
It should work provided nothing is blocking the planned doorways.

Also, I love the aerial view of that large arcane room you've got there. Any chance you could send me some more screenshots from the inside?
Nice use of lighting, too

Arinara hit it on the head, and while I was sleeping last night (this morning?) and it looks like you might have some things in the way. There could be some decorative items on the wall, or along the wall, that are preventing the doorways from being open.

Just move, or simply remove, any items that could prevent the placement of a doorway there, and you should be fine.

And btw, you should totally take some screen shots of that room from the inside and post it down in the Base Construction section in the "Show Us Your Sexy Base Pictures" because from what I can see there, it's uber sexy!

EDIT: Duh, one last thing before I forget! You don't have to clear a pathway for BOTH doors leading in or out, but just one will suffice. So you can selectively clear which way you want your room to basically point, and that'll give you some control!

Posted

Yes indeedy, you need to have clear paths in the connecting rooms. No potential doorway can be blocked with items on the wall or floor in front of it.

Posted

Hmm, okay I'll try and fix that up. There isnt anything in the way in the arcane room, but the tech one has my "Business Desk" in the way, so I'll try and fix that. There are no wall decorations in the way thats for sure, but theres a few things on the tile in fromt of the potential doorway. As far as screenies are concerned, sure, I'll post a few. After I get off of work of course; which I'm late for, gah! Gotta run!

Posted

Okay I'm just tossing in a teleprot (typo intentional) chamber atm, then I'll screenie the arcane rom. As far as the lighting is concerned, I set it to red-orange-red (high-mid-low) and on the 2nd darkest setting while using the natural torch lighting for the room. It gives it a more realistic and rustic look. I cant wait till they make items stackable, because I need to raise the throne about... 1 block higher.

Sigh, uploading takes so long.

Okay, I sorted them out with a little overview map for everyone for convenience.

Room Overview

Part A
Part B
Part C
Part D
Part E
Part F
Part G
Part H

(Also, of note, I can place the room now, but the problem of limited Prestige strikes again...)

That, is some very nice base set up there! >.< That drives me into envy! If our base wasn't so determined to be so raidable, I would LOVE to have a base like that!

Very nice set up! Post those into the Base Construction section (off the main forum page) and they'll be happy as a clam to see 'em! Very well done!

Thanks, I'll do that =D I was rather pleased as thats my first attempt at base editing, so I felt rather proud to see it work out well.

So where do you pay this? Well, go see the NPC who you would go to to create a Base, and if you're high enough in rank, you can pay the Base's rent!

[/ QUOTE ]Where might one find this NPC? My SG has created a base, and I have a rank of Leader, and frankly, the notices stating "rent is due" have me a little worried. I'd like to run in and pay this off, if I can figure out where to do so.

To the SG Registrar in City Hall in Atlas Park or the guy in Freedom Corps in Galaxy City you must go.

True, the CoV SG Registration is in Port Oaks, towards the middle of zone. In fact, it's in the large building with a reflection pool in front of it. I believe it's due south of the Hospital and SG Portal, but I'm not 100% on that.

Ack, I didn't realize my little plot was going to draw so much flamage. Yeah, a 1x4 control room would fit in there just as well (with a little rearranging). I only made that plot to prove a point, not as something someone would actually make.

It was originally made because someone was saying that it was impossible to build a raidable base in the 8x8 plot, and with 5 minutes in my base planner I was able to prove him wrong.

I hope that fixed the problem for you. Don't forget that even the smallest item blocking the doorway can keep it from being built.

However, I notice you were placing in the corner. I've had some trouble placing doors in the corner (the game tries to place the doorway on the blocked side of the room instead of the clear side). I actually had to clear out a lot of decoration in the room to let the game place the door where IT wanted, then use the "doorway" tool to put it in the right place. Thus far the game has only been stupid when I tried to place the room in that one corner, but it is something to watch out for.

Well I liked your plot. I actually snagged it to use the idea for my SG's base, only we're shifting things around. We're still looking into the idea of Secure rooms, but several of those are bigger then what we want, so it looks like we'll be upgrading to a larger plot anyway.

We're not all gun-ho about Raids, but it seems to be the only thing to do with our base. And for some reason, we like the idea.
