Am I supposed to heal if I can?
[ QUOTE ]
If you do (or are on a team that does) 25% or more of the Giant Monster's HP in damage, then you (your team) will receive the badge for defeating the Giant Monster.
So up to 4 teams can get the badge off a single Giant Monster, if each did EXACTLY 25% of the Giant Monster's hit points (not likely).

Sooo.....you're saying that all the posts here from other rednames saying that only the team/person who does the most damage gets the badge are wrong?
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...mp;o=&vc=1
And if it was changed in a patch between when that was posted and now...why wasn't there a patch note about it?
Simple the information Cuppa was given to pass on was wrong at that time, as shown by several people. It was 25% then, and since the time it was chnaged (the WL patch)
Now the 25% of HP versus the 25% total damage done is something that maybe should be cleared up, but isnt a terrible issue.

OK. Lusca must work differently.. because there is NO WAY that I did anywhere close to 25% of her HPs in damage, UNTEAMED... I sniped a tentacle twice (and got slapped!), energy torrented another (and got one-shotted with her Dark attack), and after that just debuffed and healed other heroes with Kinetic Siphon abilities.
Yet I still got the badge.
Me. An unteamed defender.
Perhaps the debuff/buff 'damage increase' was credited? Or were those two snipes and a torrent enough to get me on the board?

Yes Lusca and The Paladin work differently. They are Zone Events and not Giant Monsters.

Let me clarify this. I was invited to a team twice. I declined the invites because I don't believe I should be forced to team just to get a badge.

That's your choice then, no? You are picking a fight you can't win, basically. Relax dude and just join the team. Monsters were never meant to be solo'ed. Any monster that can has something wrong with it.
As another poster said these monsters were designed for teams. Also as another poster said this system prevents abuse. "Yeah, I got a badge off of The God of All Monsters that destroys you by looking at you! Walked up, hit brawl, and ran like a [censored] until he dies. Yeah, I'm good!"
Get the point we're trying to make? You are proposing an abusable system. Don't pick a fight with the system or the devs who try to keep everything fair, pick a fight with the idiots who abuse the system so things need to be implemented to stop it.

Except that the system isn't all that fair. And I doubt he meant soloing a monster either. Why can't dozens of heroes (ergo, going over the 8-per team "limit") simply converge on a monster, not necessarily teaming up?
Plus, aren't the badges for the Paladin and Lusca rewarded based on being close to where the "events" are defeated/stopped/won? How is that not abusable?

We have to fight to do the most damage when 10, 20 or more heroes should be all trying to defeat the Giant Monster and get their badge for it.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is silly. A Giant Monster can be downed by four heroes. Just because 20 show up from all across the server does not mean that the Giant Monster requires, in any possible way, 20 heroes to be destroyed. Particularly now that the Giant Monster coding ensures that even a low-level hero can take on Jurassik or Adamastor and not face a significantly greater threat than a hero who belongs in Crey's/Dark Astoria.
Giant Monsters are "team events." They're meant for a team to stumble across and get into a knockdown, drag-out fight with. They were perfectly in that regard, and the coding even allows for other teams to happen across the battle and join in, also getting the badge.
Giant Monsters are -not- Zone Events. They aren't meant to require 20 heroes to defeat, like Lusca is and does.
Let it go, man. You can't bring 20 heroes into the Tyrant mission to get all of them the Statesman's Pal badge, either.

Alright, I'm relaxed and I joined a team when I was invited to take down Jack, after hearing it was seen. No location was given, I told a friend I would let him know if it spawned, so went looking for it and found it after the original person was killed by Jack. Someone saw me there, thought I was fighting Jack, invited me to the team. I wasn't fighting, I was healing my friend who showed up and got hit.
I was playing a level 10 Illusion/Empathy Controller and the person who invited me didn't see what level I was. So here I am on this team, I'm not Sidekicked, I'm doing 29 points of healing with Healing Aura and 57 with Heal Other, while remaining unseen with Superior Invisibility.
When it was over, he got 137 xp and the Giant Killer Badge. The last time my level 31 Illusion/Kinetic Controller fought Jack she got 1500 xp and paid off 1500 debt. Solo, so no badge. But since I was basically called a fool for not accepting the team invite, I accepted and did the best I could to help the team. Had things been going badly I would have asked for an SK, but it went rather well.
So I played this the way it was designed to be played, teamed up, got the badge. The question is now, which of my characters would actually deserve the badge? The one that got 3,000 xp (including the debt), and actually made a difference with 327 point heals, power and speed siphoning, three decoys hammering at Jack and a Spectral Terror keeping Red Caps and the like terrorized and not attacking others, or the one with the 29 and 57 point heals?
Maybe both. One blaster was frozen in terror and taking damage and I was hitting him with heals as fast as possible to keep him alive until he could get free of it. But 57 points doesn't go far on someone who's over level 30.
I agree no system is perfect, and I have no idea how you could make it more fair, but I'm confident a lot of people would see that badge as nothing more than a joke now, as I do. It isn't where it should be, in my opinion.
And the only reason he was there was because he got Combat Jumping and was able to get to the limb on the tree for the Ensorcelled badge. Couldn't begin to fight anything there, but because of Superior Invisibility he was able to travel throughout that zone getting the exploration badges and the Alumnus badge from the plaques. That and it's a fun zone and I often have my toons there to watch the fights between the Cabal and Red Caps in Grim Vale while I take a coffee break.

We certainly all like to think that everyone agrees with us.
For the record, I wouldn't have called you a fool for not teaming. I'd have called you a fool for not teaming, and then coming here and complaining that you didn't get the badge.

You wanna get Hammi you will be "forced" to team. Get over yourself. They offered twice to let you be on their team and you turned them down. You got what you deserved.
I mean, I hate most Pick Up Groups and I despise Blind Team Invites, but not grouping to go after things that sometimes take two or three eight person teams to vanquish is just plain silly.
I love the giant monster fights. I didnt like the WL madness, only because of how much hate it seemed to generate as Kings Row turned into everyones favorite hunting zone. But I love the giant monster fights. I try to help with Lusca every time she spawns because I think it is one of the most fun things to do in the game.
Stop worrying about the points and if you should be healing or not. If you dont think you should be healing or buffing then you should play a different AT. But either way, you probably wont get the badge staying solo unless youre the highest level in the fight by ten levels or so.

Now I need a ******* abacus to determine if I get a badge.
SSSSSSSSSSSTOP the madness.
Let's not forget characters who don't do a whole lot of damage, such as Controllers or Defenders, but can still contribute by making sure nobody dies.
