who gives a crap about some fools belief in a made up god... You need to deal with reality and stop bringing your foolish religion into games. 90% of the world could not care less..deal with it. If I was them I would NEVER take into consideration religion..for ANYTHING when it comes to PUBLIC games. Religion has NO place here.

I'm happy again.

Looking at my calendar, I see that Rosh Hashanah began Wednesday, September 15th. Today happens to be the 16th.

I admit my ignorance of Jewish Holidays, but I assumed religious observances for Rosh Hashanah began the same night it began.

BTW, (/sarcasm on) Why didn't the devs call in to work for me today? I could have been home playing CoH if they had just arranged a day off for me. Gosh, they're SO inconsiderate. (/sarcasm off)

Enjoy your holy dude, remember why you're there (Some things are bigger and more important than MMORPGs, flamers be darned) and realize the game, event and all, will still be there tonight. I don't get off till 8:30pm, and if there's still portals with aliens there for me, they will be there for you too!

[/ QUOTE ]

That's because anyone who knows anything about the jewish faith knows that Rosh Hashanah is a two day event.

Oh, and I'm Catholic, and I'm pissed at this as well. If they released it on Christmas, I would be furious. I think it's rather insensitive to some people that they did this, as some people will have to miss out on some content, mainly the invasion, which may drag on for more than a day, but it's still content.

What would you say if they went live with 3 on 1AM New Years day?

Insensitive bastards.

And what are you doing checking the coh boards on your holy day? Go be holy!

Posted

Well, when is the right time to release it then?

People didn't like that it was released on a work/school day.

Weekends are bad because there's noone around to fix any problems.

Holy days are out.

Religious observance days are out.

So we're agreed then.... game releases, fixes, patches, and updates can only occur once every four years on on February 29th!

to the original posteR: BOOhOO. id think the jewish people have a little more to worry about than a video game.

I'd say "AWESOME!" because I'd have the day off!

Ask me how I'd feel if it was released on Samhain... Ask me how I'd feel if it was released on Alban Arthuan, Oimelc, Alban Eiler, or even Beltaine! (those are some of MY religion's holidays...you know when they are?)

I'd equally say "AWESOME!" Why? Because, no matter WHAT day or time they released the update, SOMEONE would complain. There is no pleasing everyone...

Uh, are you kidding with this part? Since the Invasion is going to go on for a few days, nobody is going to miss anything because of work or a Holiday.

Also, Jewish holidays are from sunset to sunset, right? So shouldn't it be over tonight, meaning the OP can start playing on the first day of release?

This really just doesn't seem like an issue to me. If they'd released it tomarrow, you'd get the exact same enjoyment but all the people playing now would get less.

This whole thread is exactly why the seperation of church and state exists, because someone, somewhere will be upset by something someone else thinks is more important religiously. Religion is a personal choice that should not impact everybody else's life. This game is for everybody, therefore it treats no one person with more respect or preference, except those at level 50

I personally think everybody should have their preference of which holidays to take off each year. I'm of a Christian faith so I'll take those, you happen to be Jewish or Hindu you take those. I'll take my new year off on December 31st, you can have yours today instead....I'll talk to you on Christmas while your working, and you can talk to me at work while your celebrating one of your holidays....This way every workplace would always have someone in it too....works out for everybody

I agree that events such as the Invasion should be scheduled, whenever possible, at times when the most people will be able to enjoy them, but it's ridiculous to complain about the timing of the release of an Issue, which is not limited in duration and can be enjoyed at your leisure.

They could have waited a day, or better yet waited till Monday. There are "bugs" that they are aware of in the game, and apparently things may not have been as clean in transfer as they would have liked (with all the crashes).

Sure, there are days that are important to everyone, but there are usually a handful of days where you don't do things. To people of Jewish faith, these days are coming up, and this happened to go live on one of them. Sure, they can go on tonight. I guess what I'm trying to say is that while I doubt it was slightly indended, some people are going to be upset because of it, and I empathise with them. I feel bad for the people that play in the Florida panhandle and up into the Gulf, because they have other things to worry about as well.

But if you're reading this, you probably don't care about them either. It's their fault that there's a type 4 hurricane blowing through their neighborhood and had to relocate someplace and possibly lose their homes, right?

I guess it's more important to complain about how hard the respec is.

Wow, your Religion is so important to you that you're worried about a video game. I think you're just looking for a reason to complain. People like to be offended, it makes them feel empowered.

If the seeing the trickle of invasion scouts is so important to you, then prioritize it over your religious observances. If your religion is so important to you, then you should be aware that this life is a small piece of some sort of eternal whatever, and I'm suprised the VIDEO GAME means so much to you.

So, which is it, are you unfaithful or do you just like pretending to be offended because it gives you a chance to attack someone without them having the opportunity to respond?

This is why I can't stand Religionists.

Even if we forget the whole "every day is special to someone in some part of the world" argument, how exactly is it disrespectful to release this game on a religious holiday? Do you get offended at all the stores that get deliveries of stock today? Or mad at the mailman because he delivered mail to your home today?

Religious holiday or not, how does releasing anything on said day constitute being offensive in any way shape or form? Pfft, Larry David is probably shvitzing over this supposed offensiveness claim.

It's not my religious holiday, but it's a major Jewish holiday. One where MY work had to at least acknowledge a lot of people might be unavailable yesterday through Friday.

I'm not Jewish, but even the most insensitive or unreligious of you should at least acknowledge the OP as having a legitimate point. I find it hard to believe the Devs didn't know it was a holiday, and one broadly acknowledged (not some obscure holiday as some of you have implied).

Now whether or not that should impact their decision is a different story, but I DO find it hard to believe they would ever consider releasing Issue 3 on Christmas or Easter. Just because it's not a religious holiday that's not "marketed" heavily doesn't mean it's not important to consider.

That said, OP, it looks like this is running through the weekend, so perhaps they did take things into account when planning (for example, releasing yesterday would have been more "insensitive" to the players of the Jewish faith).

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, your absolutely right.. how insenstive of us

Oh, and Dev's, my birthday is on Dec 19th, could you not relase anything that day...? thanks

First off, why are you so angry against this? Do you feel more empowered by joining the other posters who obviously don't care about what day it is?

Read the whole thread and you'll find out I'm not Jewish. I never made it a personal issue. I find it wrong that people are insensitive to the fact that some people are into their faith, and into the game, and have to choose.

Let's say you're SO wants to get married on the same day that your favorite football team is in the Superbowl. You'd be torn, right? That's all I'm saying, that people are forced into making a choice today, one a social issue, and another something that they find very entertaining. Most rational people will chose the social thing. A bunch of them will be upset over that. They could have made this tomorrow, or Monday. Picking today just happened to be a day that some people find important for other reasons.

...crack baby... Am I right?

WTH kind of a comment is that?! For [censored]'s sake HELL NO I wouldn't be torn!

IMHO, if you are torn between getting married and watching your favorite sports team, you're either too immature to get married, or you don't love them.

Period.

That was a ridiculously poor comparison...

Wow...again, the argument that ANY day they pick, some people would find exception to and complain about. THAT is the point some of US are making.

Monday? I work on monday, just like I work on thursday... It's equally inconvenient, either way. See, there's the key word...it's a matter of convenience...

If they hold things off until every last person in the game can freely enjoy it at release? We'd NEVER get ANYTHING.

To feel personally religiously persecuted over what day it's released is supremely egomaniacal...

That's not the point. It's not like the game came out today. The point is that there is limited time content that is available today, and people will miss out on part of that content due to prior commitment. I'm not trying to argue with you, I'm trying to say that up to this point, there's only been one invasion, and that was on beta. I've been iching to get in on that content since it was expected another would take place. It looks like one is now, and there already have been people saying that the wave is over.

That bothers me, because I'm still at work, and would have missed content of the game. Yes, it's expected that there will be things going on all weekend. But even missing a part of that is something I would feel cheated in. I'm still at work, despite wanting to play, because work is more important. But I LIKE playing the game, and missing out on things does make me upset.

But it's only a game.

If it's "only a game," why this persecution complex over it?

My gods, if they released it this evening, people who work nights and early am shifts would be complaining that THEY have to work... Are you going to decry their being deprived of content "they pay for"?!

Seriously.

Post a day and time that every last player of this game will be able to partake of the content, and we'll be sure to get every player sign on to asking that that micro-second be the precise moment in space-time that an event will be run...
