Why are most roleplayers robots?
Communication Operation: set /ignore list: +Biggo
I think the title of your post is a little misleading. It seems that your complaint is that some people play robots, rather than being bothered by the number of robotic characters.
As for people who "flavor" their powers with script... more power to them (pardon the pun). Teamspeak is extremely useful before battle (the plan) and after battle (the rest/regroup phase), but if you have time to type out something worthwhile in the battle then you're either having an incredibly easy time or doing something hideously wrong. A good defender can see when people need a heal or a buff. A good blaster can tell when the tanker is about to run out of endurance. It's all in the team window. The only useful battle command I've seen is "run!", but half the time people ignore it and fight to the bitter end (maybe not too bright, but pretty heroic).

[/ QUOTE ]The thing is, it's the robots that stand out the most when you are in a group. Most other types of roleplayers aren't making an effort to spam the chat window with inane commands every time we kill a mob (of which there can be a dozen a pull).
But the robot players seem to think they can't do anything at all without either having some hotkey for it or associating it with some emote. Rest modes, initiating combats, different emotes for every single power. Requesting heals or whatever. They stand out the most only because of th ehuge volume of info they insist on spamming the group with for every single minute action they take.

[/ QUOTE ]No.. they need to learn that seeing some nuke emote every single time they cast a power is over the top. I mean, I can see the explosion.. I know they are using the ability. I don't need to see text spamming the chat window at the same time. There are very specific situations where it becomes important to inform the group a certain mob or set of mobs is being taken care of in a certain way, especially if you are juggling severeal bosses at once. But seeing spam every 2 seconds as a mob is being pummeled with ice bolt over and over is a little much.
Sometimes, less is more.
Honestly, I can only see three solutions to this problem, and they can all be accomplished in game:
1) Politely (or impolitely if you'd rather, whatever) ask them to tone it down or stop.
2) If they're still continuing to do it and it's still bothering you, kick them out if you're the team leader or ask the leader to kick them.
3) If you're not the leader and they won't kick them, leave the group. Even if it is interfering with your gameplay, they're just as entitled to RP as you are to not RP (which I'm assuming you don't based on your post, pardon the assumption if you do ).
It might be me, but I don't know what posting on the forum to complain that some people who RP robots annoy you is going to accomplish. Besides, when all else fails, there's always /ignore to solve problems with people annoying you.
((Personally, I enjoy roleplaying solo, but I wouldn't bind emotes to my powersets because that would just drive me nuts, too. I have three hotkeys using togglebinds that I use on occasion: random error sets, engaging villain set, and response to citizens set. I'll almost always respond to any citizens I rescue, I just consider it good roleplaying. If I do something stupid, make a spelling error, or just feel like it, I'll hit the error button. And, maybe 25% of the time, if that often, I'll spam when I'm going to assault a criminal. I don't feel I abuse it too much, and I only tend to hit them when I'm solo, anyway, and I have been continually adding to the togglelist to keep from recycling the phrases over and over.
Really, I think I'm the only one I've seen who does that, but I haven't been around this server too long I guess. ))
I kinda a like hearing all the robot talk. But I'm kinda weird.
Next time you come across this problem, Query "Bob" (or whatever the name of the robot is) for a "brief mode" or a "non-verbose mode." Or ask them to download or write the module. That could work.
FSS is blessed with at least three robots, and frankly, they are some of the best RPers among us.
It's easier to stay in character with a robot, because ANYTHING you might normally say would be OOC.
I dunno... I don't know why people chatting annoys you so much... I mean, if you were in a public place, trying to think or WHATEVER, and someone was talking right next to you, wouldn't you just move away if they were bothering you?
I am not a robot.
I am an anti-social cyborg
My hero tends to keep to himself and not talk to much, so the spamming is a minimum.
If it's bothering you, ask them to turn their operating system to non verbose mode. It'll either confuse those of them that are not actual geeks, or they'll appreciate you appealing to them in a RP fashion.
Just proving that one of my characters is named after me
You know the types. Every pull they splat thier little hotkey to spam the group with some emote or message littered with beeps and whirs as they descend on the opponents. Every time the action ends they go into some rest mode. Why must all roleplaying be handled by people who insist on playing noisy annoying hotkey spamming robots..
Please, if you are going to roleplay a robot, dont feel the need to spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam every pull, every add, everey time you hit any button that nukes or heals or mezzes or whatever. Just calm down, learn to hold back so you aren't spamming important group chatter out of the window, and realize no one really cares if you are initiating combat mode for the 600th time in a mission.
