  1. Lets not lose sight of the weather topic in lieu of DA's mixed reviews. DA comes up fairly often on the suggestions board and is usually a split between those that love the zone as is and those that would see it changed.

I think we would be missing an opportunity to include weather in new missions and zone revamps. What if in revamping a zone weather was made a key element?

Take Boomtown for instance. What if the lawlessness of that zone finally causes the war walls that have protected it from the weather for so long allowing the buildings to burn freely to fail. Now the zone is exposed to bitter winters and driving rains. In the cover of this concentrated weather the 5th have all but ousted the remaining Council and begun building a new fortified base of operations.

You could apply a similar set of story blocks to any number of the hazard zones, crey's folly, 'eden', striga just about all the pvp zones. Even more secure zones like kingsrow and PI.

There are lots of zones that could be revamped to make use of weather effects to dramatic effects. A little time a little effort. I'm sure that paragon studios implementation would be drool worthy enough to inspire a demand for the effects in all zones.
  2. My brother (3) eats spaghetti-O's, his mother hates it, she's like a chef and what not, and her son is eating very processed food straight from the can, sometimes without any heating at all. So you aren't alone tartyr.

Glad you are back. kinda sorta. good luck!
  3. USB cable...?

neat costumes. I watched transformers as a kid, was not super into it. the new movies from a CG standpoint were impressive but needed work.
  4. She's hitting the wall so hard i'm hearing a ringing in my ears, fantastic!

    The Tin Tower

You are most certainly one of our up and coming artists.
  6. yeah, i think the same reason you are off there wont be a TF stupid holidays giving you time off to visit your family and stuff.
  7. So that was why no one was on last night, peanuts was taking up all their attention. Although if I had I'd probably have dropped in as well.

You don't think they could have just left it "normal" and it would still be a haunted zombie filled wasteland?

So if they dialed back the rain effect fog so that you could see, you'd be ok with it? I'm pretty sure the devs can handle a little visibility balancing.

I've played several games with weather effects. I was unimpressed by all of them. As someone else in the thread pointed out, the first time it's cool. After that it gets annoying.
Just because it doesn't suite your taste in a couple of other games doesn't mean that it will still fail to meet your expectations. Out of curiosity what would make these elements more interesting and less anoying to you?

I'd still like to see the devs try this out in a couple missions and see how people feel about them, I think if a lot of people got to experience it they could make a well informed decision about whether or not to include it in a more significant manner.

"I’ve never been a huge fan of weather for the sake of weather and I’ve said “not on my watch” in the past, but if there is a compelling gameplay reason to do it, not just because it’s cool, I’d reconsider. So far, no one’s come up with one, but I’m open to ideas."
I don't disagree with WW here, but her reasoning I don't really find all that sound. What is a "compelling gameplay reason?"

Is setting the mood enough? There are plenty of missions that could benefit from weather in that regard.

Does it have to be a specific locale? Do we have to travel to the to the south pole to warrant a snowstorm? Do we need to travel to London to warrant a drizzle?

What was the compelling gameplay reason to make the fog in DA? Why not anywhere else?

I don't think that weather will necessarily warrant a massive graphics requirement. Consider a rain shower. In the real world your ability to see rain falling is quite low, beyond 2-3 feet all you see is an increasing level of greyness. I think we already have a zone that is quite grey...Dark Astoria. Assume we ignore that first 2-3 feet in our rendering. All we have left is greyness and the sound of water falling. There are some other effects that would be needed to help sell the fog of rain sound. Things like ripples in water, dripping from rooves, squishy splashing sounding footsteps. I doubt this would be much more demanding on a video card than DA. Since your greyness is going to be obscuring anything beyond a certain range You could say that beyond that limit you no longer need to render the environment as well, to balance the added "load" of ripples and drips.

That's a rainshower, could you simulate the effect for snow or a typhoon? Probably, but it might take more effort and inventivness from the team. For almost any weather effect i think you can ignore the fine details that bog down computers and focus on some of the broader detail with little fourishes to sell the overall effect. I'd like to see them try, make a mission or two as testbeds and give it a whirl. I opened with a quote from WW and I'll finish with one from the same article.

Other MMOs encourage us to continue to take new risks and keep on innovating. And honestly, I think we try to compete against ourselves more than anything. We wanted City of Villains to be better than the original City of Heroes, and we worked to make City of Heroes Going Rogue even better than City of Villains. And that’s what we’ve been doing for over six years.
    Take this risk.
  10. the boots, I've been begging for these in game forever. jay/dav have not obliged.

    ain't cashoos stuff wonderful?
  11. I think caemgen is trying to say it doesn't have boobs.

    I like it.
  12. I think in this scenario "winning" is just synonymous with being on top. Of course if PG was a vampire that'd definately be winning...
  13. This is clearly a case of kalamari love (even though kalamari is a squid)
  14. On my first scroll through I think i skipped over a certain pairing of kitties. However, I've now seen the light, they look fantastic, thank you!
  15. peanuts! you're back! glad to have you here. Very excited to see what you have in store for us!
  16. sorry bout the size, imageshack thumbnails are really small and the images are quite large.. :/

    Here is a Meowce

And here is a Char Cat

  17. I've got some friends, in my character album. The cats, Char Cat, Meowce and Milk Shakes are all friends. Char Cat and Meowce are almost complete opposites, personality and power wise, charcat being a fire/fire scrapper and Meowce being a ice/ice blaster. It's been done before the fire and ice theme true, but still both very challenging.

As for enemies Milk Shakes has an offspring in the rogue islands, a Ches'sa. but she isn't pictured in my album. Considering that one is a villain and the other is a hero, not the greatest friends anymore. If you are interested i can pull ches'sa up and get you some pictures.

Start with the LEGO guy. Those hands should be pretty easy, right?
Then you can move up to the COH mitten, then the SWG mitten, then if you are feeling really bold mickey mouse gloves! lol
  19. My friend mounty, the mountain lion, respectfully asks that you clarify your statement, to better respect his peoples long heritage.

Although he does uses a few more growls and snarls that I refuse to translate.

I really think we ought to have a rule that says anyone who posts in this thread characters are fair game unless they ask otherwise, cause who doesn't like gift art? who doesn't like gifts? (these questions are rhetorical) Let's just say be thankful for inspiring someone to use your character in art :P
  20. Hey Saph, go distract Amerikatt from herself.
  21. In praetoria the voting is done for you!

(this year I didn't vote. I saw two ads that were not attack ads this year and neither was in my district. Everyone else was only running ads about how bad the other guy was. I'm not gonna vote for anyone who supports ads that don't stand up for their own character and puts other people down. That is not a character trait I want in office, unfortunately this means I've got no one to vote for this year.)

  23. So I had this idea. (waits for groaning to stop) There are quite a few graphical glitches (vanishing vents in TI) and logical incogruities (the music shop in rogue that sells king crab) in the cities. And perhaps we could make a party-ish out of finding some. Going through a zone and sweeping it for bugs. Then we compile everything into a big thread and hand it to war witch, or whoever is in charge of the planet now. I can name two glitches that i've reported twice before and have been there for 3-4 years but have never been fixed.

    Ok, begin groaning again.
  24. Yeah, I member one of our coalies got one they were showing it off to everyone, theirs was red tinted though.
  25. You can call dibs to your hearts extent. But you still gotta get to it first!
