This should be fixed now folks, please let us know if you continue to experience this issue.
Thanks so much for your patience! -
This should be fixed on our end now, please let us know if anyone sees it happen again.
Thanks for your patience, -
A small number of players are experiencing a minor bug with graphical textures that may cause some world textures or light sources to appear white or as white boxes. Fortunately for those experiencing this issue, a very easy fix is at hand.
Simply go to your City of Heroes directory, and look for the piggs folder. Open up the piggs folder and find the file named texWorldV1.pigg. Delete this file and re-run the updater.
Voila, problem solved!
Thanks, -
Just to make sure you guys don't miss it, we did what we could to make sure that as many CoH players could get in to PAX as possible. So check out this contest, and maybe you folks who are interested but don't have tickets can score one in time!
Thanks, -
Another tough week, I thought this picture might be a bit hard to come up with something good but you guys like to prove me wrong (and I'm glad of it!).
So congrats this week to MrWentworth!
Members of the radical zombie movement B.R.A.I.N.S. (Brotherhood of Re-Animated Individuals Needing Sustenance) protested in Founders Falls today after learning that Emperor Cole would likely disallow any attempts at a Zombie Apocalypse in Praetoria. Local heroes were swift to break up the demonstration thinking it was still Double XP Weekend. Film at 11.

Greetings all,
Two new loyal agents of Arachnos have been recruited to the fold, and will be joining us here on the forums to root out any traitorous bugs. They will be assisting in the efforts of Arbiter Kim, so if they need further information on bugs or technical issues they may be in contact. Do not fear, Arachnos has your best interest at heart and we will defend you from the iniquity of bugs and glitches to the best of our ability.
Once again, welcome Arbiters Oates and Curry!
Thanks, -

The free character server transfer service has been a great success since we made it available to all our players back in December and there is no doubt that many of you have benefitted from it, whether to find a new home server or simply to do a little Spring cleaning amongst your hordes of "alts"!
We extended it once already until the end of February, allowing many more Heroes and Villains to server-hop and make new friends. Well, with the Double XP and Reactivation Weekend only a week away, there was no reason why we shouldn't extend it once more for everybody's enjoyment!
The free character server transfer service has therefore been extended by a week and will end with the Double XP and Reactivation Weekend on Sunday, March 8th at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time ( 2:59 a.m. Eastern Time / 11:59 p.m. GMT / 0:59 Central European Time).
If you thought you were going to have to carefully plan your last few transfers for the Double XP and Reactivation Weekend, we're making it a whole load easier for you!
Happy Server-Hopping-Double-XP-Reactivation Weekend! -

Hey All,
We are in the process of rolling out a new version of the updater to handle upcoming changes to the game. There is a chance that you will run into one of the following problems, depending on how your computer is set up:
Any of the following errors:
"Error opening 'C:\Programs\City Of Heroes\CohUpdater.tmp'"
"Failed to rename C:\Programs\City Of Heroes\updater.exe to C:\cohtest\cohupdater.prv"
Please note that "C:\Programs\City Of Heroes\" will be replaced with wherever you have installed City of Heroes.
It's a pretty easy fix once you know the problem. This is only for folks with Vista+ who have renamed the updater to avoid the Admin prompt.
1. Open your game directory. (Just right click on your shortcut and pick 'open file location.')
2. Rename your file back to CohUpdater.exe.
3. There will be a .prv file in the directory with the name you used for CohUpdater. Delete it.
4. Run CohUpdater.exe directly. Enter your admin password and let the updater start up.
5. Don't bother starting the game, just quit.
6. Rename your CohUpdater.exe back to something else, like CohStarter.exe.
That's it.
If you also run against the test server, you can just copy the exe over. Or, in step 4, you can make a shortcut to CohUpdater.exe, add the -test command line switch in, and then run via the shortcut.
Other problems updating may be caused by particular anti-virus and anti-malware software. This will have different effects depending on what is interfering with the update.
Most of these issues are caused by software firewalls blocking the update, or after the update occurs, the firewall quarantines files that it thinks are possibly malicious due to them changing.
The first thing that should be done is configure your firewall:
Make sure that both cohupdater.exe and cityofheroes.exe are added as trusted programs, with full access to the Internet. Sometimes old entries remain, so you may need to remove all current entries for these applications and re-add a new one. Disabling the software does not always allow free access across your program files. If the errors persist after this you could try temporarily uninstalling your firewall software.
Next, if you still see checksum errors, delete the file coh.checksum, then find the file that the checksum is failing on, such as cityofheroes.exe in the games root directory, or player.pigg in the Piggs directory and delete that file as well. Once deleted run the updater again, and the files should download properly.
If you are still experiencing an issue after configuring your security software, temporarily uninstalling your security software, and deleting the game files that are causing an error, please submit a question to our Technical Support Team here: (http://help.plaync.com/cgi-bin/playn...nduser/ask.php) so that we can address the issue on an individual basis. Please include the following information so that we may better assist you.
We have a small utility that will run traceroutes, pathpings, and port tests to our servers; please run this test so that we will have some data regarding your connection. Make sure that you are connected directly to your modem during this process. To download the network tool, please browse to the following link:
Network Tool
Right-click the "netinfotool" file and choose Save As. Save the file to your desktop. After the download is complete, double-click the file on your desktop. Follow the on-screen prompts. The tool will take from 5-15 minutes to run. It will create two new files, one named "EULA" and one named "network_data_coh", in the same folder where you saved the test utility. Please include this file in your support question.
Please also send us as much of the following information as possible:
A thorough description of the problem, including the exact text of any error messages received.
What type of connection do you have (cable, DSL, dial-up)?
Are you on a home, campus, or business network?
Are you using a router?
Who is your Internet service provider?
Where are you located?
Are you connecting through a router or hub? If so, what is the name and model number?
What firewall software do you have installed?
Finally, If you are using the NOD32 virus scanner:
The first thing that should be done is configure your firewall:
Make sure that both cohupdater.exe and cityofheroes.exe are added as trusted programs, with full access to the Internet. Sometimes old entries remain, so you may need to remove all current entries for these applications and re-add a new one. Disabling the software does not always allow free access across your program files.
* If you have NOD32 installed you will need to configure or disable the IMON feature in that program by doing the following:
1. Open the NOD32 program
2. Click on IMON -> Setup -> General
3. In the column "Exceptions," click on "Modify"
4. Make sure that cohupdater.exe and cityofheroes.exe are added as exceptions or disable the IMON feature altogether.
Hope this is helpful, please let us know if you have further questions.
Thanks, -

Hey All,
I just wanted to stop in and address some of the common questions we’ve been seeing in this and other threads. We know you guys are anxious for more info and clarification. Don’t worry, it’s coming! Let me share with you what we can right now:
1. What’s up with the pretail? How can we get all the goodies? What comes with what and what are our options?
We’re glad you folks are so excited about Going Rogue, and can’t wait to get more info on obtaining it. We'll be providing more details on this in much greater detail very soon – we promise.
2. Are Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning going to be free to everyone once Going Rogue launches, or are they exclusive to those who purchase Going Rogue?
Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning are part of the Going Rogue expansion, and as such they will only be available to those people who order Going Rogue.
3. Why in Issue 17 are the Epic Archetypes unlocks being lowered to level 20? Will there be a new Epic Archetype available at level 50?
For this question we consulted our veteran producer Ghost Falcon, who had this to say:
Ever since Hero Epic Archetypes and Villain Epic Archetypes were introduced, we have continued to monitor the number of Epic Archetypes created. We discovered that there are many long-time Veteran players who do not have Level 50s, and were unable to unlock all the Epic Archetypes.
Paragon Studios spent a lot of effort and time creating those Archetypes, and we feel that this change lowers the barriers and will give Epic AT access to a larger percentage of our player base. With the upcoming Going Rogue expansion, we felt that this change will allow players to create an Epic AT character, and give them a head-start if they wanted to “cross the line” and bring their character(s) to the opposite side.
Paragon Studios continues to evaluate and examine the state of the game, and will always strive to offer our player base more options while still preserving a sense of achievement.
There are no new Epic archetypes planned for “50”. As previously mentioned, Paragon Studios is introducing an “End-Game” system, where players can continue to evolve their character(s).
So I hope this answers the majority of the immediate questions you folks have regarding the recent announcements about I17 and Going Rogue. There’s a lot more information coming, and we’ll bring it to you as soon as we can.
Thanks, -

A strange rumor is going around Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. It seems Kadabra Kill has uncovered an artifact of untold power, something that could perhaps be used in some manner to bargain for the soul of his wife Sigil. A crazed Death Mage known as the Disciple of Lilitu, a necromantic master, wants the artifact for himself and will stop at nothing to obtain it.
Rumor has it Kadabra Kill will be making a bid to deliver the artifact to the Midnighter Club, either in Founders Falls or Cap au Diable, around 4pm Pacific (7pm Eastern) on Wednesday, 2/10/10. While not all have reason to love Kadabra Kill, the Circle of Thorns getting a hold of even more mystical might is something no one should desire.
