  1. Sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from friendship.
  2. The funny thing is, I was just commenting the other day that my lowbie ill/rad would be noticably more awesome if brawl were affected by containment.

The ncsoft account management page now shows point amounts and also shows the option of buying points.

I was gonna go buy points for my accounts, but...

My experiences with the ncsoft launcher, ncsoft store, ncsoft web store, and basically everything to do with ncsoft per se (as opposed to Paragon), are such that I am not going to add points to the account when it doesn't show the points that should have already accrued.

Because I have no confidence that they will add points to accounts rather than setting all account balances to their expected values.

    Points!

Servers show as online, but are not open to the public yet.

Shouldn't I have 800 points, rather than 0, on each of my accounts?
  6. I'm not approaching this as a marketeer, but as a UI developer.

If the UI doesn't work, Something Is Wrong.

Can I use the trade interface to complete a trade, y/n? If not, something is probably wrong. If I have to break a trade into two parts because the trade interface can't represent the fair market value of an item, then prices are meaningfully "too high". Not in the sense that they're inconvenient to a given player's purposes, but in the sense that the software is unable to perform its designated function.

It's just as fair to say the inf cap is too low. I'd guess that it should be closer to 100b, and that if it were, not only would all us marketeer types be happier, but also all the min-maxers and casual players.
  7. Wow.

I thought that would be Just Me.

I now think there is a real justification for adding alternate animations to these sets -- there are clearly a lot of people affected.
  8. I'm disappointed to see so much complaining about the downtime, and so few posts asking whether anyone else is having trouble logging in.

Come on people! More stupid, less whiny!

    YAYYYYYYY!

I'm sort of a completeist about costume parts, but I am not a rich enough completeist to get to T9 on both accounts tomorrow. :P

    Levelling in AE

Arc Flash was fun. It did a very good job of capturing the feel of classic TF missions, with a bit of humor in it. Had fun, enjoyed the backstory and clues. Made 18, but haven't actually used PA yet because I haven't encountered anything tough. Up next is Going Rogue (#174436). I liked the description and it looked like an interesting story.

It's been used very effectively for cheerleader costumes. I sorta want to make an nrg/nrg brute named "Pom-poms Marcone".

    Well then

Hmm. I was under the impression there was a policy banning shared accounts, so this could be something where support won't undo it because they're intentionally enforcing a policy. Not a very well-considered policy, IMHO, but this sounds like "stupid policy", not "factual error".
  14. I have noticed a general trend in my experience of this game:

I don't take power sets in which some powers use a weapon and others don't.

Fire/stone/ice melee, fire manipulation for blasters... I do have ice manip on a blaster but I avoided the sword powers.

I could be happy with a fiery-sword set which used a fiery sword for all its attacks. I could be happy with a fire melee set which had fiery hands for all attacks. The combination just... I dunno. It doesn't work for me. There's not a real fighting style. It's not consistent, so I can't make it feel like a consistent power set. It's two sets of powers that have a sort of thematic similarity, but it just doesn't click for me.

So, that's the thing that bugs me and prevents me from using some sets. Anyone else have sets that they like game mechanically but don't like graphically?
  15. My first attempt would be:

Move the inf cap WAY out. Like, trillions. Allow bids on the market to be 5-10B, etcetera.

If more things went through the market, that would lead to a LOT more money being skimmed by WW fees. That would help. If buying something that cost 3B took 300M off the market instead of 0M, that would be some sink.

Past that... Lots of need for more inf sinks. I quite like the "1M inf per level to move IOs to other levels" idea that is periodically floated. Buy a level 50, spend 17M, have a level 33. Would help significantly with recipe shortages and funnel millions out of the game.

Or they could have used a 64 bit integer, at which point the cap would have been silly high. But that doesn't really have anything to do with the Market or Inf earning rates.
    It does, though!

The inf cap shouldn't be a thing you actually encounter in ordinary play. If people are regularly hitting it, then the game is failing to be able to represent something that it needs to represent to work well.
  17. That's my point, though! That you can have multiple-times the inf cap, and that it can be useful to have that kind of money, means that the inf cap and the prices of items are badly out of sync.

If you changed NOTHING else in this game, but moved the inf cap to, say, 50B, then I wouldn't argue that prices were "too high". They are too high because the game's monetary mechanics are broken by them. I'm not arguing that things are too expensive. Prices are too high, and so is income. All the numbers are too large, and we can tell because we're encountering a game mechanical limitation that makes no sense.

  19. I'd be really curious about whether traditional "fire farm" or CEBR type stuff will trigger this.

I have an axe/fire brute, and I made myself an AE mission which is intentionally cake for the brute. Nothing nearly as aggressive as an ambush farm, and I actually die sometimes playing it, but it's a sorta fun way to spend a few minutes Just Hitting Things. Then I have a ton of tickets which I can spend on alchemical silver.

If MARTy breaks that... Well, honestly, fine by me. I'll miss it but I don't care.

If that's fine, and it's just stuff like the underling farms we saw last year that's broken, I can't imagine this affecting me at all.
  20. Prior to this announcement and I21:

I would have been, in September of 2011, a year away from the 2 year vet rewards.

    With this announcement and I21:

I am, in September of 2011, a year away from the 2 year vet rewards.

    I am...

Well, I mean. I am just not that upset that I will not be getting quite as much awesome stuff as I thought I would.

Does remind me that it's time to update my accounts for annual purchase anyway, though.
  21. A lot of arcs seem to be getting bitten by coincidental name clashes. *sigh*

FWIW, I know it's frustrating, but I hope you sometime feel the motivation to get this one fixed, because it was a really beautifully done story.

  23. I go through the list just typing (on another machine) one item per line, e.g.:

    improvised cybernetic
    human blood sample
    daemon drive
    daemon drive
    iron
    brass
    improvised cybernetic

Then, because I am a Unix user, I go to the top of the file and type !Gsort<return> and then !Guniq -c<return>. And I end up with:

    1 brass
    2 daemon drive
    1 human blood sample
    2 improvised cybernetic
    1 iron

and I am happy. Choirs of angels sing.

I suspect spreadsheety programs can do stuff like this but I am afraid of technology and have not learned how.
  24. I'll give people 20M for SOs if they ask nicely. Past that...

I was on a TF with someone who was asking for advice on spending merit rewards. I advised A-merits, and she said she couldn't afford the conversion, so I sent her 40M to get her started.
