I've never been taken serious on the forums so i'm really not concerned by all the jokes you people pull after I say something.
Why do you think I turned my rating off? -
I want to thank all of you Americans (and europeans of course
) and not forgetting anyone in any other part of the world who understand our cause.
The reason I brought this out of the European Sub-Section is because I felt it needed more attention and the other side of the community needs to hear and see how Ncsoft is treating the european community.

Quote:Well there are multiple reasons, mainly that it has a collection value and some users can't download gigs and gigs off data everytime that they have to reinstall the game.OK, here's what I don't get - why do you need box sets? I have both the CoH and the CoV boxes, and I filed both of those under "dog" pretty much the next day after I got them. I guess it's useful to have a CD backup, even if mine are both over five years old and completely worthless and I could make my own CD backups if I REALLY wanted to.
But really, why? Why ask for a box when the only two uses for boxes is to store things in before you get then and to stack on a shelf never to open again because you don't need to?
And then theres the fact not all of us are on broadband, like ncsoft claims we are.
They are using a lie to get out from under a promise.
And a promise is something that should be kept.
And don't forget it is a way for new people that don't touch digital distribution to find the game.

Ship Raids are completely untrue, I know Friday is Unions designated 'Beat the crap outta the Rikti' day.
I'm not saying I never get a pug, because I do.
In fact I was in a nice pug with my empath on union last night.
But there used to be LOTS more pugs a couple of issue's back.
And don't forget about the stupid certain server only events ncsoft planned in the past which totally unevened the population number for Defiant and Union, leaving Defiant with far less players then Union.

Quote:Why, keep on dancing, dahlink.
@rpgguy: Small point of fact: the NA players have exactly the same amount of slots as the EU players per server rpgguy. We have neither more, neither less than them.
While we indeed have the same number of slots per server, we have less servers then the americans.
So in total they have more slots then us for the same monthly fee.

Quote:I think it's unfair to say that they lied on this matter as I'm pretty sure they made no promises. -
This thread has turned into Americans complaining that the Europeans are exaggerating, and the europeans in turn are defending their VALID reasons. And there are people trolling in the tags.
I invite all of you Americans to come to Defiant or Union for a week.
Get a trial key (oh wait, all the trials go to the american server), get a 30 day key of ebay or something and see the population problem for yourself, then come back to me and say to me it is still fine for a team build such as a pure empathy defender. (I'm sure you can manage with a solo character).
The reasons this thread was created still stand:
Population Wise the Eu community is at a new low:
- Less then 80 people online server wide in Prime Time which results in empty zones, and trouble finding teams
- Some badges are just impossible to get due to the lack of people (such as the rikti mothership raid badges)
A total lack of communication from ncsoft resulting in:
- 2 missed boxsets in a row with a lame excuse about european users using broadband.
A counter excuse has already been given, there are still plenty of Europeans that prefer retail copies/don't own broadband. NCSoft just doesn't want to take a possible financial loss (which is perfectly understandable since they try and make a profit, but they should have said so and not make up an excuse and lie to the community).
- A american only pre order bonus, which if it doesn't release for the EU in a booster pack, will be the start of a gap in content between the US and the EU.
A change in the way European Support and American Support operates:
- For example: it is not possible to restore deleted characters trough EU support staff, reason given is that it is not possible, but US Support does it for the American players.
Upon providing this to the EU support staff they still refuse to restore characters.
Difference in:
- Available amount of Slots
- Available amount of Servers
Yet the monthly fee we pay is the same as the Americans.
A total lack of any form of community communication from red names other then:
- The same, repeated soon(tm) or it is being looked into replies.
We still don't know why it isnt possible to reverse the old US->EU transfer techology.
It is old technology that is in place, saying it is not possible with the current servers is a lie, because it is because it has been done in the past.
When they released the European boxset, we where promised a identical expirience to the American release of the game, something that hasn''t been true for a long time anymore.
As a european, I feel that ncsoft sees the european community as nothing more then a mine, they can drain dry before closing it all together. Our love for the game, and the few friends that we have left on the servers is all that is keeping us together. -
Wait, let me get this straight.
Instead of replying in one of the many threads about this issue, a developer randomly pms an user?
What kind of a retarded way of communicating is that?
Why talk to one person alone when there is a mass amount of people waiting for an answer.
Not that the pm, even if it turns out to be legit, does a whole lot good.
I mean, its the same soon(tm) answer we've been getting since the Brighton Offices Implosion. -
One word: Women.
European (west european) women are in every which way better then the American ones. -
Avatea posts on the german and french section but as far as I know the french section is completly with out direct red name support.
-
As far as I know, it doesn't but if you where to install the US client, then change the cohupdater to the EU location it would automatically update to include localised language files.
-
Quote:
Look, I'm right there with you - I want to see the EU servers added to the list right along with the US ones. Considering both games run the exact same client, I don't see why this complete incompatibility even exists.
I hear you.
This is where the problem lies, neither do most of the european community.
With the technology having been proved during a US->Eu server transfer in the past, a lot of people are wondering why they cant reverse the process.
I, for myself, feel that I was lured to the EU under the promise of a identical gaming expirience, something that certainly changed since.
I see that I should have never moved to the EU servers, it is something I have regretted for a long time now. -
Quote:THIS.I know it's been suggested elsewhere in other threads, but if Paragon are not going to have a boxed version outside of North America, could we at least have a downloadable ISO image so we're not waiting 3 days to download a fresh update? Most people have the capability to burn images these days, or at least know someone with the knowledge to do so.
There is no reason why ncsoft can not do this. -
Quote:You mean to tell me you prefer empty zones in prime time?I just thought I'd pipe in to say that the OP by no means represents the EU community as a whole. I'm a happy EU player who doesn't really share the feelings of the OP.
Im sure this is fine if you're a solo character, but for the team players under us, this isn't fine. -
Thanks Night_Hornet, you're pretty much summing up what I would have replied to Samuel_Tow.
The whole problem here Samuel_Tow, is that ncsoft marketed a game that when it went live was promised to be identical in expirience to the american one.
It was made so the European community (which was quite big at the time) on the American server had a place to call home.
Over the years not only has the expirience changed, it has been made not identical.
With GR there is a gap in content, we get less marketing, and ncsoft is doing zero to improve it for us.
I am quite aware that the developers and ncsoft are 2 different persons, and I need to correct myself: whenever in this thread I mention the developers I mean ncsoft, so I mean the distributors.
I know paragon studios isnt responsible for the servers, ncsoft is.
As for the forum issue, I was simply pointing out that you can see lack of activity on our game forums as opposed to the american sections.
I know not everyone posts on the forum but it is a good impression as to why we have player issues.
Samuel_Tow, I feel that, since you're playing on the US server, you can not truly know what the current state of the european servers is (them being on life support is stating it lightly) until you have an account here and find out our issues for yourself. -
Quote:This isnt a good solution because it will take a long time to be even slightly succesful.I know I hardly ever post, and I'm usually no good at saying things the right way, but instead of moaning about the rough deal we're getting why can't we, the EU, actually DO something ourselves to get more players? I know in the 3 years I've been playing that at least 3 of my friends took up subscriptions to the game, even if only briefly, but that was 3 more than it would have been as they'd never heard of the game before!
If everyone decided to stop playing in protest then of course they'd shut down the servers. There'd be no reason to keep them running.
The more people we can get to play the game, the more it proves to them how passionate we are about this game. Okay, so there's no advertising... we, the players talk about the game to our friends, get them to tell their friends and so on..
Just an idea as I'm depressed right now with all the doom and gloom
At the current rate, going rogue will be the final straw for a lot of people, because the servers will die down again after the going rogue newness wears off.
Also, wouldnt be providing even more money to a company that doesnt care about us?
If they aren't closing the servers now, then they won't close them sure as hell when we get more people.
Besides, we would be doing their work for them.
So less people would actually be a good thing! -
Quote:I want to bet all my 50s on it by saying if it was the other way around (the european community was thriving, the american one dying) that a solution would have been implemented within a month at the most.
I wonder if the NA player-base was disadvantaged in someway, what the reaction would be.
Heck i'd even see it possible they'd still close the european servers and have us all play on the american ones.
Yet, since it is the other way around they dont care.
Ncsoft sees the European community as nothing more but a mine to drain as much as they can from before closing it all toghether.
As Night_Hornet has stated, I to think that it is unfair we have to pay the same amount as the Americans, but get less content, less interaction (developer->community and vice versa), less player slots, less servers and worst of all; empty zones even in peak times.
Quote:Despite being the most passionate gaming community Ive been involved with, it seems the EU community counts for nothing other than being fobbed off from time to time.
Yes no doubt some smart a*#e will tell me to quit and make a US account and stop moaning, but why should I give up all my stuff and what friends do remain in the game?
We dont want to give up our account that has had months if not years of gameplay put into it.
I am not willing to believe that a server transfer from the EU to the US with keeping everything intact can not be done, because it has been done the other way around in the past.
So the technology is there!
All they need to do is reverse the process.
If that goes at the cost of bases, sg's, influence/infamy, global and friends so be it.
As long as characters and veteran rewards remain intact.

Whenever there is an issue we always hear that there is nothing to say about it at the moment but it is being looked into.
It is nice to hear that it is being looked into but all it does it create false hope because people will be waiting for something that might take a long time, if it will ever come out. -
Quote:
Questions about War Witch's population solution that was hinted in the 6th anniversary go unanswered. Quote:but we are looking at designing an in-game system that will help solve the problem
For all we know this is a system that will never see the light of day.
Kinda like Items of Power, Base Raids and the CoP.
Quote:Next up: the box. This is a big issue and I know some of you are pretty cheesed about it. So here is the information I got (which shouldnt come as a surprise, really): because the game is online, and our consumers are predominantly online, it makes business sense to distribute online. Most MMO gamers in the EU are very net savvy and comfortable purchasing/downloading online. So NCsoft sells online because that is how more and more people are buying games, and we do get most of our new players from online distribution. There are boxes on the shelves in the U.S. because, from a distribution perspective, there is more demand herea much lower percentage of people in the US have broadband compared to the EU. (I didn't know that part.) Plus online distribution and production is much less complicated in the US, with only a single language version and a handful of major retailers and distributors, versus three languages and dozens of distributors in Europe. So there are no plans for a box on shelves in EU, but you will see Going Rogue available soon in a variety of digital stores across Europe.
Europe might have more broadband, but there is still plenty of gamers who don't touch the whole digital distribution scene and just buy their games in a store the old fashioned way.
They are zeroing out potentional players by this.

It is only natural that the european community is, pissed off, to say the least. -
Quote:Good post!Hi, im a former EU player
The EU is unfortunatly a minority market, one which could no longer support the brighton offices.
The EU server populations aren't exactly low, some of the US servers have comparable numbers, its just theres more of them.
Sure, a server list merge would be nice, but wont likely fix population problems on your servers, in fact it will make them worse, as people move to the higher populated few US servers.
A more likely outcome will be the account transfer that was given to the Korean players when it was decided their population wouldnt support the game.
Box sets in the EU would also have been nice, but there is a major logistics issue here. Europe is not one country, nor does it have just one language. Shipping things from one side of the states to the other is far easier, and cheaper, than shipping it to, and through, the EU. Then theres the language localisation to think of.
"so advertise the game more!" i hear.
Again, advertising costs, and would have to be done in multiple languages, depending on which countries the advertising runs. Advertising in just english would restrict the advertising to the UK and ireland, which are only part of the player base.
Lets estimate the advertising draws an extra 20% of players to the EU... will that 20% pay off in the long run for advertising? taking note that this is for the area that could no longer support the localised office to handle the advertising in the first place.
NCsoft doesn't ignore the UE, they just had to move your support in with the US support to cut costs, so now you're standing in line with a lot more people, so things arent as direct as they were back when bridger and co were around.
You're now X% of the total player base, not 100% of the EU, so your attention should be around the same as any other X%
That being said, i hope that whatever issue it is that is currently plagueing the EU folks, is dealt with soon
There are a few things I have to say about this though;
First of all, Yes I know that some of the us servers are lower in population then Defiant and/or Union. However, the players on this server do so by choice as they could easily server transfer to the populated freedom server. We Europeans on the other hand dont have this choice. The same goes for the server merge, those staying behind on Defiant or Union after the server merge do so by choice.
Sure an account transfer would work, but the big difference between the Korean and the European community was in the fact that the Korean Community wasnt even out of a beta for a month so they didnt loose a whole lot and got 5 free months back for their lost month (they got a 6 month pass for the american servers).
We on the other hand would loose veteran rewards, characters etc.
Second, the shipping issue; I don't see where the problem lies.
I mean, WoW can be found all over Europe.
Lotro can be found all over Europe.
And theres plenty of more mmo's I can name.
It might be more difficult but it is certainly not impossible.
Third, Advertising.
Most of Western Europe speaks decent English.
English advertising could be used in most of Western Europe.
I'm not even talking about city size billboards here.
Ncsoft could contact major local game magazines for advertisements on their magazine.
(Pc Gameplay for the Netherlands/Belgium, Pc gamer for the Uk, Gunk for Belgium etc)
It would actually be easyer since they can directly have contact with these people themselves, instead of having to go trough several channels.
Heck, I buy pc gameplay each month and every month theres at least 3 or 4 page wide advertisements for a game, some of which aren't even from a rich developer.
Fourth, just because they moved us in with the Americans doesnt mean we aren't proving for their salary anymore.
I can't help but think that part of going rogue has been financed by the money us Europeans have payed, and how we are not only missing out on 2 boxsets in a row, but also miss out on pre order items (unless we pay for them if they ever release it in a pack) and by missing out on that theres is now a gap in content between the 2 continents.
All the european community is asking is some OFFICIAL answers on our issue.
Not stuff like; it is being looked into etc.
We CAN'T do anything with that, especially since we have been getting that for months now.
Questions about War Witch's population solution that was hinted in the 6th anniversary go unanswered.
Questions why we don't get a Going Rogue boxset go unanswered.
Questions as to why they can't just reverse the NA-EU transfer that was done around the EU launch go unanswered.
We get about 1 red name post a month.
Sorry for the long read but there is a big issue here, and it is being ignored by ncsoft for months and months and months. -
Quote:I believe they were given a new account on the US servers with six months free play time. However, that was before booster packs, veteran awards, even global names IIRC.
And thank you Newty, the long version still made perfect sense.
City of Hero was cancelled less then a month after going live.
They lost a month but got 5 free months and access to the American servers back for it.
Good deal if you ask me. -
-
Hi, I am a European City of Heroes player.
Our community is here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/forumdisplay.php?f=601
You outa check it out sometimes!
See where the money that is financing part of your going rogue boxset is coming from!
See all the nice threads how your ncsoft is dealing with us Europeans.
See the same old red name excuses we get about once per month.
See the AMAZING speed at which our forums move. The last thread on page 1 is only from May First! WOW. YES!
The european community is looking forward to seeing you! -
Well im not buying going rogue.
It saddens me to death, but a company that cares this little about its playerbase will not see any money from me.
I can spare the occasional 8-12 bucks on a 15 or 30 day timecard but I am not paying 30 euro's for a glorified booster pack, and then pay AGAIN to get the same amount of content that the us gets, and still get less fellow players, less player slots and less developer interaction.
Seriously, we have been getting this "your problems are known to us" crap for MONTHS now.
Nothing is being done about, it is like Londoner said ncsoft is trying to suck out as much money as they can from the EU community and then they will kill us off.
War Witch's promised solution for the EU community to increasing the chanch of finding teams might be years off if coming ever.
Why are we continuesly financially providing a company that doesnt care about us?
Why I ask you?
The technology for server transfers is in place, I dont care about how the red names are saying it isnt, because it is.
They did it in in the past with the US->EU transfer.
All they need to do is bring that back and reverse the process.
Ncsoft is doing ZERO to improve our play sessions.
There was no official appology (or a fix) for the european trials leading to the american servers, and ncsoft does zero to promote the game in Europe.
We are always getting biased.
We didnt get the architect edition boxset. Like me, it pissed off a lot of true fans of the game. But we where promised that we would get the next boxset, so we took our loss and moved on.
Now we have been informed that won't get the Going Rogue boxset either, and to make matters worse, due to the new pre order deals there is now a gap in content between both regions.
This is not fair.
Our love for this game and our community is whats keeping us together, but at this rate ncsoft is still making money.
I couldnt think of a better solution as to where we would all stop paying them and let them find out thereselves how there european playerbase is feeling, but I don't think that this is something that we can get organised.
Sorry for the grammatical errors, its late and im tired but after seeing the new going rogue interview I just got more and more infuriated at this whole issue. -
Quote:I tried moving to another mmo (first to lotro which I still play occasionaly, and then to EQ2 which I left pretty fast).no doubt we will get it in a u gotta pay extra for this item booster again! When the whole of NA get to purchase it with there boxed sets with there extra goodies! im realli considering trying another MMO one where there isnt such a devide. plus if i need to reformat my comp again i have to download 6 years worth of patches etc because we cant even have new copies of the game distributed to us dev you suck big time and black pebble you are **** you have contributed next to nothing and probabily getting paid for the ideas you have been getting from these forums sort it out or u will see a lot of people jump ship
City of Heroes is unique and it is a shame that it is consistently being ruined for the European players.
Why are the Americans always first?
I know their player base is bigger and it is an American game, but we pay the same monthly fee and get less player slots and now with the pre order bonus items we even get less content.
I don't care that a developer makes a thread "notifying" us about our concern being recognized. We can't do anything with that.
Im really looking forward to War Witch's method of increasing EU side players but frankly I don't expect that anytime soon.
With the money NCSOFT makes, and they make enough, it shouldnt be hard to design one global server for the game. -
If they opened up a EU->US transfer then that would actually decrease the wait.
I mean how many people are still holding back a transfer if it came?
Only a few rp'ers from union thats it, and they won't be missed.
Low player counts are the reason why I play the game so little these days.
I would have gone stateside already if it wasnt for my characters and veteran rewards. -
Quote:If we all stopped playing, and paying our subs. Then they would simple close the EU servers and forget about the EU side.
No.
Look at what they did with City of Hero (the short lived korean release of the game).
The servers wheren't profitable enough and they gave all the remaining players after a certain date a server transfer to america, a one year gametime pass and they could keep their characters. -
I wish the EU community would just stop playing, all of us.
Then they'd notice.
There would be a stateside transfer within a week.
It isnt fair we pay the same as the americans yet have less slots, less fellow players and always get blunt side of the stick.
But because the EU side is still profitable (it must be hence it is still up) they don't care. -
Old player here, had my account inactive for a LONG time and reactivated for 2 weeks via gamecard today. Played an hour and got bored already due to the lack of people on both EU servers.
If it wasn't for the time, money and effort that I put in these characters I would have long left the EU servers in favour of the American ones already.
But since there still isnt a server merge or a transfer stateside (and I highly doubt that there will ever be one) I will just go back to being inactive.
