I will admit that a coherent prim/sec combo for both a power armor and gadget themed character would be great, those who recognize where those suggestions come from will recognize that they are some of the better aspects of that game, Coh needs to get to stealin'.

in my experience (capcom vs snk, guilty gear XX#reload) it can be hard to play precision characters with network latency, but one on one fighters do work out better than mmo pvp. at worst you get one moron at a time, rather than an entire community of them.

added note: this is NOT saying that all pvpers are members of that community, I met a lot of fun players back in the day, but that socially retarded 25%-40% of the pvp community that shows up in any game with pvp, usually higher numbers the more you can attack defenseless or heavily outclassed players to disrupt their play, is prevalant enough to make people not want to play.

Diplomatic as ever, but not entirely without some truth. any game that has been around for over a year is going to have a established community, if you just pop in and hide in the corner, you are gating yourself out. The reason i dislike the term "gated" community is that it implies exclusion, there are some twits, there are in every game, but coh does have a reputation that i try to do my part to justify of being a really new player friendly game, but we cant be welcoming if we don't see you. So its a two-directional onus(for some reason , that sounds dirty). vets should help new players, but new players have to let vets know where they are.

as the real world analogy goes, you cant complain about not enjoying a dance if all you did was stand in the corner.
  6. mmo pvp always attracts a certain personality type, i dont really care for it. Maybe casual zone pvp, i used to enjoy that, but serious pvpers just aren't the kind of people i get along with, so whats the point?

oh, and my comp doesn't run that fast, so with all the movement affecting powers going on, i'm not going to be competitive anyhow.
  7. the fruition of all the resources they have tied up in gr for all this time. while babs, jay, some other animator and a few others have done amazing jobs this year, its been a long time since we got a tileset, a story arc, a new or revamped zone, and it has been felt by even the most optimistic of us, but this year we hopefully get to see going rogue and see it all come together. Im hoping for the best.
  8. dont be afraid to ask for help, a lot of vets enjoy that sort of thing.

    turn off sprint when fighting.

go to your server's forum here and find out what the server's teaming channel is, they can be goofy, but very helpful.

just have fun, we are generally friendly to people who aren't jerks and who spell out the word you.

  10. not untrue, it happens in any social situation, but t least on liberty, its not like the gates are that strong, just show up, ask, and dont be an idiot. when i join any new players, i let them know about it. Best you can do if you are a member of these groups is help new players (something that i personally feel is my responsibility as a veteran player in the first place) and let them know where the action is.
  11. eh, you can dodge a lot of the worst stuff redside and just come across as mercenary, jsut for the love of all that's holy, avoid weston phipps. beyond that, most of my villsa re more a idea of how situations can drive good people to do bad things, the only character i have that's really uncaring is my crab spider, but the rest are too jaded, self tortured, or distrustful to go full good. longbow and wyvern arent exactly the best goodwill ambassadors out there really.

that said, gr comes soon, so i expect a lot of people going rogue/vigilante to be able to have a toe in each pond. or doing a full switch. the redside stuff is pretty well written, you owe it to yourself to give it a go at least. And you can look at it as more you dealing with evil people rather than you yourself being evil.
  12. i am VERY on board for polearm weapons, but it is going to take some applied cognative dissonance for people, because quarterstaves, spears, scyths(always a popular choice), and slashing polearms like halbreds, voulges, naginantas, kwan-do and poleaxes, shaolin spades, as well as darth maul styled lightsabers(lets face it, someone probably wants them) is that each is balanced to be used differently, so we can either introduce 9 or so new powersets around a general theme, which will probably cause both castle and the community to have a nuclear meltdown, or accept that some weapons will be used in a strange manner(including giving lethal damge to quarterstaves). now, we kind of take this with dual blades, rapiers, main gauche and droit, and gladius, even the chinese striaghtswords from the ma pack all are primarily thrusting weapons, yet dual blades animations are primarily slashing, with a few thrusts(which subsequently look silly with the kopesh).

my take was that if its the only way i can make a musketeer then heck with it, he slashes, but this will come up if a pole-arm set comes out, that some weapons will be used in a manner that they normally aren't used.

His errors regarding Empathy/Pain seem justified, but then Maniac brought up a good point about Pain sufficing for Empathy.
As for writing styles, after perusing this post which I still seem fascinated by,I would dare say that Rian and I share the same styles.Does this mean I'm Rian's second account? Far be it. I'm sorry if I "write like a duck, quack like a duck" to the OP and other people here, but even ducks have a limit on the amount of different species available.
no, but you have given me the idea to make a second account to argue with myself with, so something good has come of this.

I don't know this "sock-puppet" theory, nor now do I want to. I just came here to play, and seeing a post here that alot of people are shredding, I did have something to say.
I'd be more open to listen to him if he wasn't so offensive, and I'd listen to the responses if they just weren't immediately bash him back. I think clearly there is a difference in opinion and unfortunately, we've come to bashing and smashing.
The JPG of the terms of WoW clearly speak to me,and I think he either got a good deal or something's not right there, as the picture says it all. That's proof in my pudding....lol!
But that's the problem, a few of his points were opinions, and you noticed that those weren't instantly pounced on, its only when he made the absolutely factually inaccurate statements that he got stomped. Plus, while everyone makes grammar errors, including myself, there is a issue of how much you respect your reader if you post like that, its basically saying, you aren't important enough for me to try to be coherent, and that starts things off poorly. mistakes are bad, but that was barely the post of a native English speaker. In fact, we have several non-native speakers who express themselves more clearly than that. there are opinions and there are factually incorrect statements.

Case in point, I made 3 bad typos in this post, out of respect for the reader, they were fixed, ya get me? We are not teenagers texting.

Is he justified in his badgecount? Ther I think so, just b/c you all got it lowered so you can farm it easier you want to blast him. Don't want to farm for the Outcast badges? The TV Contact's in Grandville, go farm there, you'll wastes hours PLing yourselves there before you'll actually hit Siren's Call.
people wanted the badge costs down so that they could get the badges in regular play, not farming. For badges like illusionist, this was difficult, its less so now, this is a good thing, if i have to screw around pling or farming to get badges, than they are poorly designed . Also, vills no longer have to fight twice as many mayhem heroes as heroes did. plus, we got badge bars, those were asked for, and the devs put them in, was that bad too?

His PvP "rant"? Maybe he needs to learn to PvP more, but when RV's more diversified than Blappers,Trollers, and Stalkers,I'll side with him.
again, dont pvp, dont care, but i understand that defenders particularly psi/rads were the nasty ones. fotm builds in pvp are not new nor unique to the game.

Monthly cost? I don't know too much about the state tax thing, but it'll hit both CoX and WoW at the same time, and if WoW's core charges are lower, maybe it's time to investigate.
you can check that right now, go to wow's main site and check their monthly sub fees, then go to coh's and check theirs, its the same. 14.99 for a monthly fee is the standard rate for mmos and has been for some time. a few have found ways to lower this cost, or have lowered the cost because of low subscriber numbers, or, in the case of ffXI they give limited subs and had additional cost for other things we take for granted, but just about every upper tier western mmo is the same. but do it right now and see what we have been saying, becasue apparently you think that several of us are lying about the cost, its easy to check, do you need the links?

They say that certain powersets are hard to do because of programming. I'll buy this. but they waste time creating a Halloween event with banners and such, but giving MM's a Demon-set when you pretty much have the pet builds available or an Ice-Demon set when, again, the builds are available seems rather easy than creating a whole new event.
we feared that they would do this lazy route, fortunatly they instead are putting in effort and making new art assets, as well as the fire whip attacks that will be the first flexable weapons added to this game, something lacking from many games due to their difficulty in animating properly.

For those about to judge my "clarification" of builds, perhaps reading the MM forum wil give you ideas an what build I'm referring to, and,oh,BTW,Pain? It's not Empathy, get your facts straight before you actually issue facts.

  17. 1. making things more accessible to players does not punish those who farmed, they farmed to have the reward that they got, there was never an expectation that the badge numbers wouldn't change, nobody was punished, non-farmers were helped, but it is a massive stretch of logic to say that anyone was punished by making things better.
    2. again cant speak for pvp, it was broken, it still is, maybe its unfixable in the game type, either way its a small community, so you can only justify so much developer time on something that just wont stick, maybe get back 50 people if it gets rolled back, if you can justify the expenditure of developer time based on that, go ahead, not my fight there.
    3. blappers lack damage mitigation tools outside of stacking expensive io sets and some knockback and slow secondary effects, they take the risk running in, so they have better damage, tankers are safer, and have mitigation tools outside of simple def/res.
4.wow also has microtransactions, some of which cost more than coh ones, the monthly fees are the exact same.
5.macs aren't exactly the preferred gaming platform, they seem to be working on it, but its a smaller userbase with unique problems, some of which are more difficult than others to fix. patience

out of curiosity, what other mmo do you play? psu and recently lotro are the only ones that have sub 15 dollar sub fees(well, the Korean freemos and guild wars too, but those are a different situation entirely), all the rest are 15 bucks monthly, less if you get in 6 or 12 month blocks, i personally havent paid 15 bucks for years, they have recently had deals where you paid about 10 bucks a month for 14 month blocks. you got taxed because they had a physical location in your state, the rest of us dont pay sales tax, blame the tax code for that one.
  19. 1. no, they were too damn high and needed farming. this put them at a reasonable level.
    2. my fly trap is violet and neon green, what are you on about? full costume customization of mm pets, as babs has discussed several times is a great deal more complicated, so be patient.
    3. I don't pvp, someone else can field this
    4. ever since the gve pack both games have come together, all new packs contain both games, when ncsoft took over they gave all existing players access to both games, the only way you can possibly not have access to both games is to buy a 3 dollar cov or coh old box from big lots, and have joined after the ncsoft takeover. and you can get the packs for 20 bucks for both games, somethign you cannot get with wow, the game you chose to compare it to. what the hell are you on about here? you haven't been able to buy the single game for over a year.

also, you never thought you would have to proofread? really? what kind of conversations do you usually have with strangers where you just vomit bizarrely constructed meta-thoughts at them hoping that they can piece together them into rational thoughts in English? This mindset is alien to civilized discussions.
  20. he appears to be mad that they dealt with ma abuse and lowered the badge counts to a reasonable level. plus standard pvp rant. that is what i chisled out of the incoherent block of sentence fragments. oh, and we are dead a few months after goro unless we implement random bat-@#$% crazy suggestion number 40 from the suggestions forum. oh, and the poor thing was just from planet nutcase, given that he compared to to world of warctraft, which has the same sub rate, and until goro hit actually has more expansions out.

oh and he had another totally unconnected player with a December 09 reg date and no other posts who has been waiting for someone as brave as him to speak up. i find it all totally credible, lets roll it back to issue 4.

    Alter Egos

yeah we discussed this before but its a good topic regardless. a lot of us were taken by the swg guy, his real body limited him, but in swg he got to be free, that was touching. As for my avatars, i tend to be as far from myself as possible, but rian does share some comparisons with myself, both martial artists, both tried to join the priesthood(he joined, i wussed out), he is a comical goofball, and ya know , he even looked similar to me in his second and fourth costume(though with a better waistline, and slightly thinner arms), but since as a normal guy, even modestly athletic , low level hellions with uzi's would end it fast, i like the idea of adding mythological creatures on top of existing people, a facilitator to enable an intention. a dragon certainly would be stronger than a few twits with guns, and dragons look cool, so there you go, similar enablers involved angels, genies, werewolves, mermaids, robots and power-suits, and the ever-popular scientifically engineered plant woman.. plus when i got the game, and the reason i have stayed 5 1/2 years later is the costume creator freedom. if i wanted to play a certain game style but look a certain way, i was free to do so, no race limitations, no armor limits, i wore what i wanted, so poof, im still here. and here shall remain till someone does it better. especially since bab's little home run with issue 16 was more than i expected.

(and for those wondering, champs does it pretty good too, im there too, as a lifer, but it does things coh cant, and coh does thing champs doesnt, so I dont see a clear winner there)

  23. see, i thought it was a guy from gamera. we do need a giant reptile monster in the game already, the fact that adamastor is just a big zombie borders on insulting. I understand that art assets dont grow on trees, but far too many giant monsters are just upsized regular enemies, and it is a depressing flaw in the game.

also, i dont know how often this needs repeated, but forum reg date is not game registration date, froum reg dates tell us nothing. as for when, i'm leaning to early feb too, id expect 2-3 months beta test, so to hit in the second quarter, we'd need to start no later than midway through the first quarter.
