  1. Thanks for the info.

I'm not sure I replicated exactly what you did. What I did was take Ice Blast, Flash Freeze and then Frozen Armor. I then unselected Flash Freeze and then clicked and dragged Frozen Armor from Level 47 to the blank lvl 44 slot. This worked.

    Thanks again.
  2. Hi all,

I was planning out a thugs/traps mastermind and decided to take chill mastery as my epic. (I'm not interested in going redside for the scorpion shield).

In Mids the tool tip for Frozen Armor reads that I need either Ice Blast or Flash Freeze and lvl 44. However Mids will not unlock Frozen Armor unless I take both.

    THe Paragone wiki states

"You must be level 44 and have Ice Blast or Flash Freeze before selecting this power."

So I shouldn't need both. I just deleted and reinstalled Mids and I see the same behavior. Is this a bug in Mids or is something else going on?
  3. I tried both SS/FA and claws/FA. The claws/FA seemed faster on the lowbie maps due to Spin. The claws/FA was the 2nd toon, so I may have used the experience of SS/FA to pick better powers. Or I just enjoy watching my toon Spin and seeing all those orange numbers.

Both toons are just used for AE tickets. Right now, the claws/FA is 32 and is my goto for tickets. The SS/FA is stuck at 24 and is looking like delete bait (maybe for a new tank, troller or mastermind).

Playing either toon is more of a job to get tickets for rare salvage than something I really want to level.

Reading this thread it sounds like SS/FA can be better outside the farm, but you need some serious inf to get there.

Honestly, they seem kind of a wash, go for the concept or the powerset you like to play.
  4. OK thanks everybody. Now I know whats going on.
  5. Hi all,

Sometimes my mouse pointer turns red and I can't target with the mouse. Tab targetting still works.

What exactly is going on when the mouse pointer turns red? Sometimes it happens with targets standing behind me, so does the mouse pointer turning red have to do with not being able to see that target?

With the servers down for five hours, figured I had time to finally ask.

  7. Hi all,

I'm a bit confused about a couple of Ill/Rad builds I've created. The first is sort of where I can get from where my toon is now. She's 40th level. It seems I can drive recharge on PA down to just under 85 s.

The second is based on Local_Man's Perma PA build. Its low budget. I took out most of the purps and all the LotG Recharges. Oddly, recharge is pretty close to perma ~ 65 s. This seems pretty good, considering how long it will take me to grind out three or four LotG recharges. And I get Rise of the Phoenix!

The thing is, I don't see where his build gets a +20 s recharge bonus. Most of the sets are almost exactly the same. Either I'm missing something in the build or mids is not recalculating (tho I saved and reloaded the build.)

I probably will respec eventually. I took teleport to play with and find I just use superspeed + jet pack. If I do respec I'd replace teleport with hover or air superiority, maybe take a slot fromm hasten to add to something else (phantasm, air sup, what do you suggest?).

But really, what am I missing on the recharge?

No respec build: Recharge on PA ~ 84 s

  8. Hi,

I would like a motorcycle animation for superspeed. (OR temporary power: motorcycle). THen maybe we could have motorcycle races thru the cities instead of costume contests.

Again, ability to make breath or eyebeam powers come out of a hand or other source.

Ability to make any power come out of a device. This would be great for people trying to stick to a natural or technology origin.

Change postures for fly/hover. And as above could show a raptor pack or Hobgoblin flying wing.

Ability to make a katana look like a lightsaber (or will G. Lucas complain?) though thats more of a costume option I guess.

It's not "farming" in the "maximize every possible second" way but then if I wanted that I would always play the tip top characters. It's still 400-700 tickets per run and its a character I don't mind playing. Should be pretty doable for almost any powercombo with the right strategies.

PS I would probably still do ambush missions even if the payoff dropped significantly because they are just sort of fun. Arctic Air + Contagious Confusion vs 200 enemies on screen is also entertaining to watch.
If brutes were not so easy to level, I would have tried some similar strategy with one of the three toons at the top of the thread. But hey, when my defender needs Chronal Skip or Impervium, I have a character with five thousand tickets.

Its kind of like those tower defense games where u say you'll play for twenty minutes, but ninety minutes later you're still hitting restart.

Tried it with a claws/fire and really enjoy the AoE of Spin. Should probably have taken Followup rather than Healing Flames, but HF has helped occasionally. Supposedly the SS/Fire is marginally better in the real world, so I'm not sure which toon I'll keep leveling. But its kind of nice to login, destroy bad guys, no waiting about getting a team.

Huh, never saw this vendor until now. (And like others have said, she's near the hospital elevator/door/portal.) Thanks!

The inspirations certainly make a big difference. I got in the groove a couple of times and hit 17 in an hour. The next three levels were harder and took another hour.

It seems like there can be RNG badness (or my initial load of insp wears out) where I just get clobbered. I've taken to clicking on the painting and then fighting, as I have an "oh crap" button if I get a run of blue insp or such.

It does seem to take a bit of getting used to, and I did die a lot, but it was faster than a sewer run. I also have near 7000 tickets so I can buy rare and uncommon salvage when I need it. I guess getting him up to 40 will be nice for the recipe rolls. And he has to get to hero side.

    Set Diff at +1/8 W/bosses.

Set the mission and initiate it with the contact then head to the inspiration dealer.

Pop 5 purple and 5 orange inspirations.

Pop however many reds you need to get to the 675% damage cap.

Purchase and store 5 purples and how ever many more reds you can fit in your tray.

Enter the mission and destroy the two objects in the first hallway.

Defeat enemies! When your inspirations start to fade make sure you pop the ones you have in reserve or you will almost certainly die the instant they wear off.

Sustain off of the inspirations that will drop for you.

OK, I seem to need some remedial help.

I rolled up my SS/Fire brute. Having a problem getting the insp. On mercy island the insp dealers (Mercenary guy and the nurse) are very far from the AE building. Popping insp at the dealers just doesn't last.

If I start the AE mish, other contacts won't talk to me.

Without the insp I died really quickly.

So where is the insp dealer within running distance of the AE building?

The long runs to the insp dealers make this farm not as good as a sewer run, so far.

Is there a different zone I should try?
  13. Thanks every one for there replies.

I guess I'll try leveling up a brute since its so quick.
  14. I would like to have a toon with some capability to quickly farm AE tickets, and help level other characters. But I don't have the "best" character for farming - the SS/Fire brute. I'm not really interested in rolling a brute and starting at level 1. So out of these toons, which could I get to farming shape most quickly:

44 dark/dark defender - push her up to fifty and soul drain + blackstar + blue + dark consumption? Right now she just doesn't seem to have the damage output. Recharge on those APP powers is kind of long too.

33 SD/WM Tank - he's at about 38% in his positional defenses. He did OK in an S/L farm, but diff was only +0/x4. Push him to 35 or 38 and he'd really shine? Or just get his positional's soft capped? Really don't want to start buying set IOs in his 30s though.

28 Ill/rad controller - she rocks when PA is up- about every other minute with IOs. Get her to 41 for the Fire ball from the fire APP, then start work on the perma-pa build?

Or is it really just better to roll up the brute or a fire/fire tank?

I could play what I like, but depending on my mood I like all three of these toons. I'm not set on a totally maxed out farmer, just good enough.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll give her another chance.

I will say Local_Man's Ill/rad controller guide is excellent. Even if u never plan to roll a controller, it has a lot of good information (like explaining ED).

    AT Comparison

I've really enjoyed playing my dark/dark defender up to 40.

I rolled an ill/rad controller as an alt and she was just dull to play. She's a 14th lvl banker toon now. This may change after level 32 when she has her pets, and then suddenly she'd be uber, but I'm not that far along yet. Just warning there may be some dull levels. For right now I'd rather level some other toon. YMMV.
  17. I spoke too soon. One of the guides showed how to buy uncommon salvage at 501 and then resell at 5005. My banker toon has made 2M inf in two days. Not quite at the buying recipes for 10M inf mark yet, but at least I feel more comfortable building 100k's of inf for them.

Still tryng to get get a feel for selling crafted IOs. One sold fairly quickly but two others have not.

And you're right. I cannot seem to farm AE missions.

    Thanks for all the advice!

Find missions that you can farm for them, or start doing tip missions and farm those. My advise, skip the solo AE ticket missions, you just not the build to grind them out fast enough to make them worth your time. Hell, I don't even do them on my fire/storm unless I'm too cheap to buy some rare salvage and need some tickets.

Just go with Haste, and Super Speed... with Shadowfall on, its a cheap invisibility which you will need in some missions/trials/task forces. That's how I run my Darks, with SS/SF on all the time. It was easy, once I trained myself in a few cavern missions running about and such.
I've tried the AH and so far buying salvage low and vendoring it has been successful, but that only seems to make 1000s of inf. I've met with failure so far on buying recipes low and selling IOs high. I'll keep trying. Thanks for the advice.
  19. Hello again,

My def is now 39 and I've been looking ahead to slotting her IO sets. I've come up with a build that soft caps ranged def, mostly because I don't like getting mezzed.

    I have some questions.

Does a dark/dark defender need soft capped Ranged def, or should she rely more on Fear, HT, DP and some Break Frees?

The Endurance recovery is very close to endurance use, which usually means endurance problems when using powers. Is there some change to fix this?

HT has two Stupefy for the end recovery. I'd really rather have Recharge reductions there.

Are the powers past 38 slotted well enough? Obviously I haven't used them yet.

Is there some easy way to get these IO set recipes? At the AH, they cost millions of inf, if any are for sale at all. Merit badges seem to take a long time to collect 240 and I'd need 240 each. Or I could take my chances on AE mission ticket random rolls.

I'm more willing to respec out of fly/hover and take CJ/Something else. Another toon got himself a jet pack at level 11 and 2 hrs toggle time lasts awhile, so I'd be more willing to use that for vertical travel.

  20. Thanks for all the help. I think I will tend towards the Fighting set, and drop Hasten for Oppressive Gloom. I like how HT shuts down the mobs and stacking HT, DP and OG sound like fun.

I think a build something like this is what I'm driving towards. Slotting will be a combination of sets and IOs, mostly driven towards what I want to enhance, with consideration for salvage drops and cost of materials.

  21. Hi,

Thanks for all the comments everybody.

@Psylenz - I've heard negative comments on oppressive gloom, ie it uses up too much end and hp for not enough benefit. What are your thoughts on this?

@Rigel and Black - I would never have thought to slot up Boxing. Most guides say to take it only as a stepping stone to Tough and Weave. I can see how it could be effective - I'm usually standing in melee range so my AOE heal hits the tanks and scrappers. And it could more useful than moonbeam with its long animation. But I do like moonbeam.

I love to Fly. Superjump causes me to hit my head on walls and under staircases. Can't jump to the second floor of AE buildings either. Hadn't really heard of the jetpacks. Just buy em for 10000 inf and use em for 2 hrs toggle on time?

I seem to want Fly, Hasten, Recall Friend, Boxing/Tough/Weave and Maneuvers/Assautl/Vengeance. Unless I get a special dispensation for five pool power sets, choices have to be made. Which is better, LEadership or Fighting?

While sidekicked up to 49th, I got two shot a couple of times so was looking at Tough/Weave. Does Dark Embrace help fix this problem at 50?
  22. Thanks for the replies

  23. Hi,

I have 21 lvl Dark/Dark def and I've been looking at a build on Mids. In my late 20s I seem to hit a dry spot of good skills from my primary and secondary. I've filled it with Teleport, Maneuvers but I'm not wedded to those skills. I picked Teleport mostly because I've never had a toon with teleport and want to see how it works. I skipped Petrifying Gaze, but maybe that would be more useful.

What are good Pool Powers for Dark/Dark defender? Some extra DEF might be useful so Boxing / Weave perhaps? Is this better than Maneuvers /Tactics?

The Epic Pool isn't set in stone either, I might go with Power instead, but that is far in the future.

Here is the build. I don't know much about IO sets. The DOs and TOs are just symbolic of Stary's approximate enhancements. Some are level 20 IOs but Mids won't let me use level 20 IOs.

    ice/ice leveling

    Thanks everybody for their replies.

Dropping ice patch before the pull has helped. The mobs fall down, clump up for frozen breath.

I have freeze ray, but it was constantly missing. So much I didn't bother. I'm 21st level now and so dropped two slots with two 20th IOs into them. Freeze ray misses a lot less now and its very helpful.

I do not have Ice Storm. The guides gave me the impression to skip Ice Storm. Going back over them I notice that some guides note Ice storm is useful to solo leveling. So at 22 I'll probably take it. Not sure what else to take. Combat Jumping and Chilling Embrace would help some at melee range, but wouldn't help with ranged attacks (Gears don't hit hard but 8 or 9 of them do).

20th Level IOs cost a lot more than 15 and I just couldn't afford it. The DOs from Mission Architect tickets are way better than TOs and MA tickets are pretty easy to get. Sort of hoping to save up Inf and skip the 20th level all together, go directly to 25, but it doesn't look feasible.

I have a free respec. Do I lose all my enhancements if I respec?

    ice/ice leveling

I have a 20th level ice/ice blaster. Recently I've been having trouble leveling. On large pulls, my toon can't kill fast enough and gets quickly overwhelmed.

I try to limit large pulls but on the first mish in Talos island ("Find Susan Trent", IIRC) I enter the mission and see a yellow and two oranges. OK, tough, but doable. I pull and two more oranges spawn. That the toon can't handle. So she's stuck in a mission she couldn't possibly handle and may drop it.

She has a combination of 15/20 IO and 22-23 DOs from AE missions. Is there some way to know ahead of time which missions she needs to wait a bit or get help for - aside from the mish text saying 'get some friends' of course.

Also the AE missions she's tried are real variable. She was level 19 and tried a mish for 25-40 that was labeled 'can be soloed easily' and got killed four times. some of the pulls seemed impossible for a solo blaster - maybe ok for scrapper / tank / or defender. Or did she just need the extra skills (she didn't have ice patch) and slots (freeze ray was missing at least 50% of the time) and needs to wait till the minimum level?
