Actually that is reassuring, sort of. And thanks for adding the edit.

Only thing worse than having a problem is thinking you caused the problem.

I'm praying that my copy from the beta folder worked. The Launcher shows it's up to date, consistency checks works. Trying to launch the game (I know, I can't play yet but I just wanted to see a normal can't reach servers message) gives me a corrupted file message. Repair again, completes, looks okay, but still get the corrupted file on launch.

Please let it be just the server.

    Mmm I do recall that.

So, correction, my last chance to get it the original way.
  4. I realized that I would, actually. I might not have started many characters there, or spent much time in the zone in many moons, but knowing it will soon be gone (or reduced to a facsimile), I spent some time there last night, and it was a weird feeling. I started a new alt (and realized it might be my last chance to get the Isolater badge), and headed there. Running lowbie missions and street hunting, it was like having a premonition of doom. The citizens, even the bad guys had no clue what awaits them, but I did.

I will miss her, because she's awesome.

Is any other zone as accessible?

And it made me wonder... what might happen if some Shivan, or several, incorporated the bones of a certain signature Villain in their newly molten bodies?

Things that make you go "hmmm..."

  7. Another look for Azuria... I actually like her color scheme a lot, it's bold. I couldn't match that deep blue color though.

    NOT A STUPID QUESTION!

Or maybe it is, but that was it.

I forgot that I "lost" my chat tab and had to recreate it a while back, and apparently I left off NPC dialog. *facepalm*

Now, what's interesting about this is that I was expecting the dialog to show up in balloons.... it just never occured to me at all that not having NPC dialog in one of the active chat tabs would affect word balloons.

Yep, I feel a bit sheepish but it is far outweighed by knowing my arc isn't broken.

    Thank you.
  9. Some time ago I spent a lot of time creating a 3 story winter holiday themed arc with custom critters. I wrote up dialog for the critters, custom hostages, and finished the arc off with a custom boss.

It's still my pride and joy, however I hadn't run it in a while, as in several game versions ago. I was aware that there might be some things broken from due to updated game versions via mentions on the forums but I hadn't really looked at it.

Ran it today, and almost everything seems okay with one huge exception. None of my dialog is working! Not from hostages, not from bad guys, zero.

I ran the whole arc and then opened it in the edit panel. The dialog I wrote (which was really the heart of the story, along with the custom critters) was all still there.

I thought there might be some glitch or other that could be fixed if I went through, checked it all, maybe made one or two minor edits and republished, so I did that.

Ran the first mission again and sure enough, no dialog from anyone.

Is this a known problem, and is there a simple fix? I'm so hoping the answer is yes, and that someone can give me that information.

    thanks

(Oh, the arc in question is in my sig, but I'd rather no one run it until I get this fixed, obviously.)

    DING! Seven!

    YAY SEVEN!!!
    (in font size 7)

Here's hoping the City is around to celebrate Seventy-Seven!

Interestingly, I got word yesterday that my favorite TV series was renewed for its Seventh season.

2011 seems to be the Year of Seven...

    Seven... Eleven....

Where ire the numerologists to explain What It All Means????

It's similar, yes, but there is a difference that now that I have your example, makes it obvious, to me anyway, why I tripped.

    The Incarnate Sidegrade text:
    Living Relic Sidegrade
Converts a very rare Incarnate Component into another very rare
Incarnate Component of your choice. It requires some additional Incarnate Threads to catalyse the transformation.
    Your salvage conversion screen text:
Aberrant Tech Salvage Conversion Brain Storming [Level 1]
Converts Aberrant Tech Salvage into Brain Storm Ideas.

The first example says, Converts nonspecific item into another nonspecific item of your choice.

The second says, Converts this specific named thing into that specific named thing.

It wasn't clear to me at first whether the item listed in the title was what you were converting or what you wanted to get.

In the salvage example screen, there's no ambiguity. In the Incarnate conversion screen there is.

I'm not arguing that the meaning can't be parsed, in fact I'm arguing nothing. I feel dumb that I didn't get it. However, it would have been extremely simple for the dev who created that screen to make the Incarnate conversion as clear as the Salvage conversion, simply by writing the text the same way.

    I.E.
    Living Relic Sidegrade
Converts a very rare Living Relic Incarnate Component into a different very rare Incarnate Component of your choice. It requires some additional Incarnate Threads to catalyse the transformation.

I have a feeling the reason for the difference was probably because someone was in a hurry and wanted to copy-paste without making a simple edit per line.

    Thanks for the example.

But instead of thinking things through and going, "hmm, that doesn't make any sense, where did I go wrong?" they immediatly fly off to start whining (on the forums in this case) that stuff doesn't make sense. That's the issue I have. I'm not saying people don't have any brains, I'm complaining that people always fail to use it.

If that makes me a jerk, than so be it. I can live with that.
    Ouch. So I'm a whiner?

Thanks for reading all my posts in this thread (I'm the original poster) and then making your statement. Because I do that. I'm sure you can easily find 50 threads I've started where I flew off half cocked to whine to the forums instead of using my brain. :P

It sounds as if your issue is a generalization that you believe. Whether in any given case or not it happens to be true, you might be tempted to fit the facts to suit your belief.

    Ain't we all just human.

    ...

Yes. Or no. It was simple the very first time I saw it too. You pick 1 of 4(or 8) items of a list and match it to the one you need, I fail to see how pen and paper are needed in that.

The only thing confusing about this whole incarnate crafting system is seeing how many people are being confused by something so simple ...

I agree the interface could've been a bit more fluid, but I really fail to see how the basic crafting system is to much for anyone to grasp.

I've already commented a couple of times in the first page that, d'oh!, when I looked at the screen I saw one thing, but after a gentle nudge and a tilt of the head, I could see what I wasn't getting.

I figured the thread would die.

    It didn't. Go figure.

However I am going to point out here that you can look at it this way: the things you see and quickly grasp are easy, and if someone looks and does not as quickly grasp what you do, they must be dense or stupid

or you can look at it this way: humans being don't all think the same way, reason the same way, conceptualize the same way, grasp concepts the same way. Some people think visually, some verbally, some spacially, some radially, some in a linear path. Some people are dislexic. Some are colorblind. You get the drift.

There are levels of street smarts, books smarts, and some people have no sense of humor. I deadpanned through whole episodes of Monty Python and then laughed hysterically at the exploding animals gag.

People think differently. It's not always being stupid to find something confusing that another person gets quickly.

    Just an observation.

And uh...I'm slow or something because I don't "get" what's wrong in the picture. Only thing I see is that to get a Living Relic (or whatever) V. Rare comp. you need to have a Living Relic comp. Did I miss anything else?

Edit: I see what's wrong....you have too many threads! Send them to me!

    hehehehe... no such luck, sorry.

Actually there's nothing wrong, per se. I thought there was when I looked at it at first, and I did look for more than thirty seconds, but my brain didn't click to what was expected. I did think I had to have a Living Relic to create a Living Relic. It's okay, point and laugh. I don't mind.

I did figure it out, hence the "EDIT" on my original post, and my follow up post.

Someone asked didn't I even *try* it, but as you can see in the screenie, I couldn't have - no VRs in my bucket.

I do feel dumb for not getting the interface and having to have it explained, but... as obvious as it seemed to some folks, it wasn't to me.

I'm kind of surprised there's a discussion continuing.

As I said, not very intuitive though.
  18. Now that I've looked at the Rare screen, I think I get it now, but it's extremely not intuitive.

This is going to make VR conversions kind of impossible....

    This.

This already happens to me on my 2 50's (go ahead and laugh), and I have been playing for a number of years. I'm not a l33t gamer, but I'm not the average player either in that I do look at the forums for tips and try to learn and comprehend what's going on and why.
