Quote:actually it is true they set it up as an elaborate game that took multiple steps and they didn't give hints they didn't promote it on game news sites ...even though it caught on and people eventually found out about it.I recently got into an argument over the radios they introduced into Portal over Steam recently, and was told that, though an elaborate procedure of pointing them in the right direction, getting messages interpreted as Morse code, decoding those and so forth, you'd get an announcement for Portal 2. If that is indeed true, THAT is the kind of reference that's actually very well hidden. This is akin to slapping a Portal 2 banner at the end of the credits and relying on people to just not sit through to the end (which, with Still Alive, is a bad bet).
it was an ARG "alternate reality game" a scavenger hunt of sorts started in the thread below
portal thread
it was neat, it went like this from what i can remember.
portal was patched
"on the patch notes it mentioned a strange radio signal detected"
people played threw the levels found radios scattered around all the levels if they moved the radios around the maps they would pick up signals ....the radios where producing morse code and some where making a distinctive sound.
people then ran the different sounds threw some Spectral analysis thing and the
people where discovering pictures ..
well from the pictures and morse code people where able to decipher a phone number which lead to a bbs "bulletin board system" when they called the bbs "on a 56k modem i may add " it would post ascii art which was art too portal2.
it was a fun game to figure out and follow
the link i provided shows how it played out from the beginning.
edit oh yeah in the people thread it's like over 2 million page views and about 768 pages? -

Quote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but... 3 tiers of PPD powersuits, yes?
Hero-only MM, anyone?Quote:Only if the secondary is a Ranged/Armor set that uses the PPD Shell/Hardsuit.
i would seriously pay for something like that if it was some sort of costume power set pack thing .

Quote:thanks for the story sounds like you had a blast ....i think everyone would like days like that again .I sometimes worry this game is getting too complicated; between AE farms, IOs, playing the market, TFs, merits, Ouroboros,Castle destroying pvp and so on and on and on, I thought that today's play session was a refreshing nuggest of nostalgia. No IOs, no missions or contacts and no mission bonuses. Nothing except some straight-up group hunting, and I had the most fun in CoH that I've had in a long, LONG time.

Quote:i added some stuff for snark, but basically that was the gist of it .That can't be the only reason as fixing that sounds not particularly complicated.
i remember it getting taken out and that an exploit was the cause of it ...maybe something else was involved a dev did comment on it back then saying something on the lines of what happened below ,it maybe still on the boards i'm not sure.

The Trial was taken offline due to a game-breaking exploit.
The exploit enabled any member of the SG running the trial to run a delivery mission or "fedex" type mission and upon clicking the end contact, the mission would not complete but the character and team would still receive the mission completion bonus. This resulted in several people clicking their way from level 1 to level 50 in a matter of hours, and also allowed the accumulation of large amounts of prestige and influence for various SGs and players afterward the zone was taken down for due to obvious exploitation.
work for AE began shortly after the incident. -
Quote:the first step is admitting you have a problem. My main took 908 hours to get to 50 (as reported by a civilian).
As a rule, I don't PL alts for the sake of PLing alts. I have been in PL situations before, always to observe or learn the technique, but since the alts I've done that with are also alts that I test other things with, often which debt-cap them continuously, it all evens out. Alts I roll specifically for the sake of playing the powerset combination or character I basically never PL. In fact, I still often go through the tutorial.
So on the PL front, I've probably *tested* every PL trick that exists, but I don't *use* PL to actually level alts. I'm pretty sure I'm not that rare of an anomaly in that regard. -
Masterminds, i like to sit back and let my pets do all the work while i push a button occasionally .
mainly due to arthritis in my hands. -
Quote:yup i would....BUT i would want it to be more fleshed out like originally when i heard dayjobs where going to be implemented i thought it was going to be something like grand theft auto style like how you could jump in a cab or ambulance or pizza delivery and pick up people and drive them around or just go nuts and drive off a cliff .How would the players feel about an AT based in Longbow or the Paragon Police Dept?
Start off small, and rise up to be a Warden or even a Ballista? Be a super powered Cop like Blue Steel ...
where you did mini games, that type stuff on the side .
but son i was disappoint ,when it just revolved around getting a badge when your not playing the game.
so yeah if it was something like grand theft auto's sandbox type play then yup . -

random thought.
i recall not liking the name of that plan "loyalty plan" ...it sounded like being married or in a relationship ...like the game was saying to you.
"if you are truly loyal and faithful then you will give me money and i will stick around for an extra month"
is what i get from it . -

Quote:that's the spirit! On 2nd thought, I would've joined his team. Went in all excited, then after a mob or two I would make a big deal about how this is pathetic XP's
I was making twice this much before I joined you..
and then I'd quit and vanish. Leaving the 'Newb' wondering what this massively amazing farm I have is...
All subsequent /tells for info would be ignored naturally. -
Quote:sure the person had the right he/she is paying a subscription fee and the rules don't state otherwise at least i don't think they do .he had no right to call you a noob for refusing a team. O_o That just makes him both smug, and stupid.
but come on now the guy calling him a noob and him being a 69 badge vet the irony alone that's hilarious. -
i recall in broadcast last night someone saying 69 badge vet mm ds/something looking for team .
in cap au diable O.o

Quote:Someone should figure out how much money CoH has earned NCSoft in total. If it was $2.6 million per quarter for 6 years it would be $62.4 million! Wow!
this was back Dec 9 2008 when atari acquired cryptic
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(City of Heroes and City of Villains sold to NCSoft) generating over USD 100 million in lifetime revenues and up to 180,000 peak subscribers.
http://www.mmogamer.com/12/09/2008/i...ryptic-studios
another site that mentions cryptics track record
http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/43...ryptic-Studios
feel free to search google /yahoo
"atari acquires cryptic"
it will come up with basically the same thing the mentioning of a 20 million bonus if they release games at a certain time and there track record.
far as the revenue that was a couple years ago so it's been over 100million. -
Quote:i recall being told that they where short staffed when cryptic was running the show before the sale to ncsoft and yet they where able to add new things then without problems .I wonder if new issues are harder now due to customer expectations?
Maybe the Devs feel that we expect so much in an Issue that they just can't produce it in a 4 x a year timeframe?
And the low hanging fruit has probably already been picked.
back then issue's where what you expected a couple costume pieces a new mission maybe a new zone and or a new feature.
this was before the selling of "costume packs" which inadvertently was told by posi actually helped get content out , in reference to when the villain epic archtype crab spiders where put into an issue at a certain time when it otherwise wouldn't due to "time or manpower"?
ncsoft acquired city of November 6, 2007 so they have had plenty of time and money to acquire extra people ...so manpower , shouldn't be a factor today.
you do have a point ,maybe peoples expectations are to high ?
but then again i don't know .
with about 300 years of comic books out there for source material the fruit on the tree should be a plenty. -

Quote:yes i'm serious ,i think sunstormers post in this thread was spot on.You can't be serious I hope? AE is groundbreaking in the MMO industry, every other game that does this (and others WILL/ARE doing it) will be learning and following this standard. It is an amazing feature hands down.
