    Loss of a hero

These threads always make me sad. I think Rick said it best, though:
    [ QUOTE ]
True heroes never die, they live on in the memories of those who are left to remember them.

  2. It's still not working for me. Patched just fine but once again the updater closes and the actual game never starts up.

It's an interesting idea, for sure.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have been playing this game since launch, and have been PvPing since the arena hit test starting with my Perma Elude Ma scrapper. I have seen so many toons go to trash because they change stuff. I just reuped both of my accounts for another year because I still love the game. We need to come together and have fun. Spec please post Renegade vent info so we can all get together.

    PS
I havent felt like a champion since we beat GMW for the 4th or 5th time.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Oh, I'm not suggesting it's a bad idea at all. I like the idea and I think it will help preserve what's left of the high-end community. I'm commenting more on the sad state of organized PvP that we even have to bring this up in the first place.

I love the game too, and the people I play with are one of the biggest reasons I'm still here. What I don't like is getting fed up with the way things have been handled by the developers and community team lately.
  4. Clean rooms are a sign of a dull person.

Besides, they're not "messy," they're "lived in."
  5. It's an interesting idea, for sure.
  6. Just downloaded a fresh copy of the test installer DMG from the FTP site. Ran the updater and got

EDIT: Hmm, ran it again and now it's downloading a 12.0MB TGZ file, presumably a Cider or Mac Updater update.

EDIT EDIT: Downloading files now. Very slow, probably my poor connection.

I have a question, if someone could test it that would be great. With the 4 sec capped hold duration now, is there any use for acro? Under the new system, is acro reducing hold duration below 4 secs now for squishies?

    [/ QUOTE ]
The max base duration is capped at 4 seconds. Slotting and buffs will allow you to increase that (PB'd holds can often last upwards of 10 seconds). Acro is still good for hold resists because a 10 second hold on a squishy is probably lethal unless you have teammates.

Strength mods meaning Enhancements? Or strength mods meaning Powerboost.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Both.

    Why thank you.

I did offer you use of one of my accounts, though I may or may not have been entirely serious.

I think Psy Screams arc should be increased so you can actually hit more foes with it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Range enhancers are crucial. Luckily, Dam/Range HOs and SHOs are dirt cheap.

    [/ QUOTE ]
How meaningful is slotting one Centriole, hypothetically? Or two?
  11. [ QUOTE ]
Oh and be sure to list your name if you play on freedom just so I can shove those rude and senseless comments right back down your throat.

You'll find me in RV on Boogedy Schwa, my Corruptor.
  12. Different version of the build, Leadership and Leviathan. Gains about 20 HP, loses a few +dam bonuses but more than makes up for them with Assault, loses about 15% recharge.

i dont like your power picks lol.

i also don't like pff that much... a +hp build with hibernate generally does really well in zones and in the arena.

you also have no perception and no resists to -tohit debuffs from tactics, and that's gonna hurt you A LOT.

i'll make a build sometime in the next few days....

    [/ QUOTE ]
I've got Mace mostly for Poisonous Ray. Like I said that's a zone build (I've noticed that Hibernate on its own is a death sentence in zones, you've either got to have Phase or both Phase and Hibernate) but I could also go with Leadership + Leviathan and squeeze more HP out of it. I generally don't sweat the details too much with zone builds because I'm usually on a team where I've got buffs or heals to back me up or extra teammates to keep the opponents busy.

As far as primary/secondary power picks go I figured just go with the ST immob and hold for the damage, the pet for obvious reasons, and Quicksand because it's basically an autohit location -def and -jump that recharges in 15 seconds. From Energy I didn't take Bone Smasher because I've been skipping it in my /EM Blaster builds since I13, though the Dom version is different and may be more useful. Skipped Whirling Hands because lolAoE, and skipped the snipe because I'm not a fan. Tooling around in Mids now to come up with a Leadership + Lev build.

EDIT: Also something that's probably worth mentioning: the changes on test likely aren't final. Damage, recharge, and endurance numbers will probably get tweaked before this all goes live. Elec and Fire may still be better secondaries than Energy (Build Up and Fiery Embrace being two of those reasons). The big advantage Energy will have is a solid ranged attack chain and a very high-mag knockback power that also does good damage.
  14. I didn't get a DLL error until I tried one of the fixes mentioned in either this or another thread - previously I'd be able to launch the test updater just fine but after I clicked "next" nothing would happen - no loading splash screen, no "CityOfHeroes.exe" process... nothing.
  15. I let the test server download run. It downloaded about 700MB worth of files and claimed it was ready to go. I copied the piggs folder from live to test directory (did not replace any existing files) and ran the updater again, at which point the launcher fired up and... connected to live. I'm downloading a completely new copy now, from scratch, and am hoping that fixes it.
  16. Earth/Energy with 55% rech, 1426HP, and 31.5% damage. Looking for a good way to squeeze more HP and possibly more damage into the build without sacrificing other aspects or becoming crazy expensive. This is a zone build or I'd take Leadership and Leviathan (or Mu or Mace) instead of Phase and Mace.

  17. I think it's because the Dominator changes will require a change of playstyle for many people. Old habits die hard, and Dominators have played roughly the same since they were released. I especially feel for the /Psi users not just because PSW got nerfed badly but because the entire feel and "optimal" way to play the set got totally changed.

Okay, heres some numbers I pulled from the detailed info on test.

Looks good. Kind of wonder how (I assume those numbers do not include slotting, which would effective double them) that stacks up to current Domination + slotting through.
  19. Earth/Fire is, and will be, a solid PvE and PvP combination. Of course you'll want to use a different build for the PvE side than the PvP side since many powers that are good in PvE are bad in PvP, and vice versa.

If you are cool with standing around doing nothing all the power too you. From my experience, most players aside for /empaths aren't (especially on an "assault" designed AT).

It's true, people will do that for sure. It's one reason I agreed in the main feedback thread with the assessment that they might want to review the tier 1 and 2 attacks and make them faster recharging with less damage and endurance cost. I think something between what they were and are now would be a better idea, not because it will actually perform better (except for overkills), but because it will "feel" better subjectively to people playing lowbie Doms. That's a key time when people form opinions of whether they think they'll enjoy playing something.

I'm a little torn, though, because (especially for the attacks with fast activations) big hitter attacks are what you want to build attack chains with. Having some of these attacks like this is a boon to the high-performance build.

I would tend to agree, but what many people seem to forget is Dominators have a dual-use primary (control and damage). It'll take a bit of adjusting to get used to, but Dominators will have a damaging power or two in their primary that they can use to fill in the gaps in the early level attack chain (especially if they are Mind).

I do agree that attack chain pauses can be a problem - for example, I like the idea of a high-level, well-enhanced War Mace character, but in the early levels the constant pausing between attacks while I can do nothing really annoys me and I give up.

I ran into a similar issue with my Shield tank. No matter how much buffing I had my Shield Charge would never do more than 504 damage.

Perhaps the powers themselves have a cap that is not immediately apparent? I suppose it would be akin to a damage softcap? Like with defense, once you hit 45% anything above it won't do you any good as far as performance goes, but the hard cap (the point where you just can't get any more defense) is just over 200%. Maybe attack powers have a similar mechanic in place that isn't widely known?

    [/ QUOTE ]
As Natsuki said, Shield Charge (and Lightning Rod) doesn't actually do damage. Instead, the power summons a pet that does the damage. Since the pet damage cap is not the same as the player cap you will not be able to take full advantage of damage buffs at times.
