How about a little pop up at the end, with the rating system, that says: This arc was brought to you by @[insert name here]. ?
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
And then person does mission and tells SG "Hey, want to annoy @ [insert name here]? Go and petition that mission/give it a bad rating".
Nope anonymity at all times or it'll be impossible to fairly judge someone.
[/ QUOTE ]
But how do you judge someone if they're anonymous?
[ QUOTE ]
Because jerks are everywhere, even if not constantly.
[/ QUOTE ]
I dont think that's a good enough reason to simply make it anonymous. You cant let jerks win. Couldnt it simply have an option to publicise name? Then you can if you want to and when you want to.
Me? Ide publish name AFTER I got a good rating.Assuming I got one in the first place.

Actually a techie question.
Would it be possible for a CoH player to play with a CoH2 player?
Would it mean totally seperate games or could CoH2 simply overlay CoH1?
So a CoH2 player would see the coh2 content but a coh1 player would be on the same server but seeing from a coh1 perspective?
Could that be done? Surely that would be win win. -

Like the difference between Christmas morning when you were 7, and Christmas morning now
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
We don't know anything about how they'll do it right now. I don't think they'll launch a COH2 though - that'd split the playerbase even more if this thread's any indication.
[/ QUOTE ]
Provided we can move everything across, I dont really see a downside to CoH2.
And the big question has to be, with all the tech limitations this game currently has, compared to the bright shiny new engines and game play styles our soon to be competitors will have, can the game afford NOT to reinvent itself? -
[ QUOTE ]
Oddly I agree with GG on this. Frankly being able to almost predict the missions you're going to get and know what you're going to have to do for the umpteenth time but with just a difference cossie and set of powers is dull. I don't care how you try and convince me that the nuances of a different team make up or builds makes each encounter unique, it really doesn't.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is a concern of mine. this game (admittedly Cryptic not NC,) are, in my mind, notorious for cut and paste.
Look at CoV.
A part of me is still concerned they'll take the easy (lazy)route.
But I hope, and think this may be the case, that NC are a different animal to Cryptic altogether. -
[ QUOTE ]
With the new (proposed) content call it CoH2 and release as a full standalone. Not an expansion.
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Sounds like too much of a gamble for them right now. I'd get it but would every one who plays right now do the same?
[/ QUOTE ]
But it wouldn't be compulsary to get it. You could play as now. You'd only be missing out if you wanted the content in the first place and seeing other players use that content may persuade you to end up buying it yourself.
And CoH would be on the shelves again.
So I think the downside is manageable. -

helping people = good.

[ QUOTE ]
Really? So if you save a bunch of people who are being attacked by the Skulls and they then blow up downtown Paragon the following week? You did good? Or doesn't it matter, since you did "good" in the here & now?
[/ QUOTE ]
Comic book morality (as defined by the main heroes gebnerally) is exactly that though. How many times has Batman saved the Joker knowing full well he'll kill again?
So the answer in this case is that the poster is actually correct.
The argument that the Batman is actually responsible for the Jokers future murders because he simply could have not saved him doesnt apply here because, well, you could argue that one forever. -
Can I sign my son to play without purchasing the game all over again?
Can he just go to NC create an account, I pay and he uses his user name and password on my existing set up?
Or do we have to buy the game all over again?
Thx -
I could go on about this subject for pages and pages. Restraint is called for here.
But on these points:
[ QUOTE ]
The leveling curve - it's ridiculously easy to get to Level 50 these days, so badly, that you outlevel content. What's the point in having content if you just outlevel it?
[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed. I dont know why they did this. I know there were bumps but still I don't see how they gain if we hit 50 to quickly.
[ QUOTE ]
Debt - put it back to the way it used to be. And I mean the old, OLD debt where if you died, it took ages to get rid of.
[/ QUOTE ]
Players are so used to debt as it is. I don't think that would go down well.
But still, there ought to be risk to dying, especially in a team.
What if you couldn't reenter the team for, say, 3 minutes after you were killed. That would put a much higher onus on everyone trying to stay alive cause a few deaths then would really make it hard for the rest of the team. A kind of shared respomnsibility? Wouldnt work solo but in teams it might add a certain awareness of risk.
[ QUOTE ]
Giant Monsters - the old XP they used to give. No one does them these days, I hardly see any use for them other than to make people think "I remember when people used to flock to fight <insert GM here>".
[/ QUOTE ]
The whole concept of GMs should be revisited. They should be much more of an event. They should have more damage. there should be a purpose to them being there (damage to city?) And a real risk of defeat if you take them together with a genuine achievment IF you beat them. Right now its like chopping down trees.

Over the past few years, i've met a whole lot of people; some which i nearly considered as a friend ( because i obviously dont have any for playing too much CoH) , despite the huge distance between my hometown and theirs and that City of Heroes is just a game through the internet. It makes me feel sad to see some of them leaving to other MMO's. Some of them return. Some of them dont.. Its sad to see less and less known people.. it makes me feel like one of those old guys that sees everyone around him dissapear you know
As City of Heroes is slowly getting abandoned, as more and more people are leaving, i still love this game, even though it was extremely hard to find a full team over the last few months, if i somehow managed to get some spare time to play this game.
However, due to so many different factors in real life, i wont be able to pay a subscription any longer. So all my character names will get unlocked again after 90 days.. pretty sad, considering more then 1700 hours went into all of them.
In any case,
Dior,
Granite Killer,
And all the people who i have laughed with in the past and present; i salute you. I might return in a few years on champions online.. who knows if we might meet again; the world is small enough afterall.
-BattleCow
PS: I still got my 10 days left; so if any of you still want your own character running around with the name battlecow or supreme commander just send me a PM.
[/ QUOTE ]
Battle, you were one of the first UK Legionnaires. I've known you for several years. good luck mate.
And, the fat lady hasn't sung on this game yet, mate.
Take care.

Well I did put aon the end of my statement so NCNC know I'm pulling their leg with a big cheesy grin.
But as ever, If anything, your wisdom brings a smile to my face Lionsbane.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hey I wasn't refering to you Mother. I knew you were being funny.
Rereading my answer, it can seem i directed the childish barb at you but I truthfully didnt mean it like that. Sorry.
As for my wisdom, well the truth outs. Took 3 years for anyone to believe me. Ironically, the person that confirmed half the statements I was making was the person I have the least respect for in the gaming world, Statesman himself.
Lifes Ironies eh? -

(([Edit]: If I wasn't such a devoted/loyal sucker/subscriber, I'd be a bit miffed at the three copies of the game I appear to have acquired.))
[/ QUOTE ]
Lots of people moaned about that when NC did the CoH/CoV merge last year. It's pretty childish.
Like being upset because I bought a DVD of a particular film and now can buy the whole set for the same price. or I bought a plasma at £1000 and now you can buy them for £500.
I think and I said this a long time ago, they are going to merge the games. I think Villians will be able to go hero side (at great risk) and vica versa. And more. -
[ QUOTE ]
You're missing the point a bit. Take my wife for example. (Please. )
She tells me to go shopping. She tells me to go to Tesco not Sainsburies and take the clubcard.
See, if it weren't for those loyalty bonuses I may well have gone to Sainsburys.
Now if I decide to dump Tescos entirely I may not even factor the clubcard in. But while I'm a "floater" the card swiungs me and my family there.
And I also have dropped the game for several months and kept the subscription running because of the awards.
Going deeper, its possible the awards aid retention because, If I werent still paying I'm not sure Ide have gone through the whole regimarole of re signing on. As it was I just logged in once then twice and before I knew it I was hooked again.
So there is a logic to them.

[ QUOTE ]
No you missed the point or didnt read what i said.
When you are swinging or on a break, you aint finnished using a product or service.
Vet rewards dont make up the only reason someone plays this game, or keeps them playing.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ahem. It's like this. if I drop the game, as I have, its common sense to stop paying. And Physcologically, If I do that, it's easier for me to distance myself from the game entirely.
In other words, I was kind of done with CoH but the fact I kept paying for it enabled me to log on again and get rehooked. In other, other words, the vet awards worked on me exactly as they were supposed to.
If I went to Sainsburys not Tescos then Sainsburys would get my money and Tescos wouldnt. And If I got used to going to Sainsburys maybe I'd drop Tescos entirely.
So, if you follow that logic both Tescos and CoH are quids in because of their loyalty cards and awards.
This really isnt worth debating about. It's straightforward business sense. -
[ QUOTE ]
This is a weird one for me. I'll be a recipient of these awards as saoon as thery come out yet I feel a bit odd that I can get things that others cant have literally for years to come.
My personal opinion is that the entire direction of awards should change.
For example, while I dontr think its right that I can get objects noone else (nearly) can aquire in the short term, things that offer me bragging rights are welcome.
Also, perhaps, I'm that little bit more entitled to a purple enhancement maybe?
These are gifts that anyone can aquire. Its just I get 1 every three months for free. I think thats a pretty good way to keep the vet awards going without all the heavy thiunking about what to do next time etc etc.
And maybe the small assist the purples give my 50s is reflective of my time in CoH?
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Your no more entitled to extra purple recipes than me or anyone else who's beeen here from day dot, or a year or 2 days.
Just go and buy them, thats not what vet rewards are about.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok. I'm entitled to Sands of Mu,the blackwand, the axe whatever, the little Elf thingies that buff me etc etc but not a purple enhancement?
What exactly are the awards about then?
How would you differenciate?
And I've been saying that the reason I think a purple MIGHT be fair is because anyone can get them but they're nice.
As you may notice, I, and my opinion counts here because I'm one of very few players on this side of the pond who is a 51 monther, am against vet awards that are inaccessable to anyone else. -
[ QUOTE ]
Maybe they should just stick all vet rewards from now on as a badge and a costume token, except for the year markers where you get something nice?
[/ QUOTE ]
Sure. That would be fine by me. -
[ QUOTE ]
I don't know why anyone would be disappointed - Sands, Nem Staff, Blackwand and even Ghost Axe are all strong powers for just about any character.

It's just that ... sure it's useful and practical, but it's just not much fun. It's not shiny and new. It's like getting woolen long johns for Christmas. They're useful and practical and you'll be glad you have them when it's cold but ... they're just not very exciting as presents goes. You can't help but be a little disappointed.

Actually... *raises hand*
I've been through several months in the last couple of years where I've not played at all; yet carry on subbing; at least in part due to wanting the vet rewards. A small part it's true, but it HAS been a consideration.

I can still think of one vet reward I'd love to see:
Fashion Emergency Teleporter (long recharge item that teleports you to Icon/the Facemaker)
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Actually...you know what...screw the second 'permenant temp' power option, I reckon that would make a really cool 54 month reward, I mean I'm only 17 months in now and stand about as much chance of getting that reward
[/ QUOTE ]
Which is why I as a 51 month player should have access to these awards free of charge and 6 months later (year tops) you should be able to buy them. I don't think it's right that any item in the game should be completely inaccessable.
There should always be the chance you can get whatever item the game produces. Even if it's a low chance.
But if you want a 48 montrh award and you've been playing a year...
On topic, I think they ought to dissolve the awards entirely. As for the awards themselves, well yeah they are lazy and kind of self defeating but what the heck. Such is life.
Although FFM was probably right when he said they could have been another temp power or maybe another travel power perhaps? -
I'm not up on the naunces of Powers so bear with me.
As I understand it, the key differences between WP and Invul is that the WP can take less damage but is better protected across the board than invul. Plus it has no direct heals like dull health. Ok.
But the question has to be this:
If both WP and Invul hit the Sl cap with tough but WPs overall defences cover a wider range of attacks, (psionic etc etc) is it not (assuming you put in tough- or aid self for that matter) an overall, no questions asked, superior Primary for Tankers? -
[ QUOTE ]
Matey with all due respect while we all got concerns over this please try not to overreact until the sets are out for testing and we get some more feedback regarding values and so on. Only thing you achieve is give ammunition to people that hate PvP to hate it more. There is a thread we have expressed some concerns without crying doom and you can express your concerns over there as well but please dont blow it out of proportion.
[/ QUOTE ]
What exactly is the argument against both sides having the same ATs (possibly with different names) as each other?
Maybe one or two sets wouldn't cross over very well, thematically speaking, (i'm thinking of Stalkers and Defenders here) but this game emulates comics, or attempts to, right?
And comic book heroes and villians can share the same type of powers. So what is wrong with the ATS crossing over?
It would sure stop this kind of (maybe valid) type of thread and no side can argue the other is over powered. It seems to me it would straighten a whole lot of aggro.
I cannot see a down side. If you take your arden hardcore CoX player or PvPer hat off and look at it objectively, what actually would the problem to this suggestion be? -
[ QUOTE ]
Glad to see you're taking an interest in PvP Lionsbane.
And to the point - it's pretty decent, with set bonuses Invul can get perma Dull Pain, reaching a permanent 3.2k health. Which, like TG said, it's extremely hard to take down.
But we're talking about Super Strength here - not Invul. It's definitely PvP able, especially against Blasters, considering most go Cold Mastery which offers no smashing resistance. I think it'll shine mostly in Siren's Call, more so than your Invul/NRG, since there you have Knockout Blow and Rage. Super Strength also has Hurl, which, despite it's painful animation time - it still a ranged attack, and a pretty good one at that. You've also got alot of knockback attacks, so get slotting those Force Feedback procs!
If you're looking for some variation and you want to PvP with both, I suggest having TP Foe on your Invul/SS for Masterminds, and maybe tactics on your Invul/NRG for mild stalker "hunting". Or maybe have one PvP, and one PvE.
[/ QUOTE ]
Heya Pet. The trouble with your suggestions lead me to a second point.
See they're great if you want to redo your char to be PvP centric. Which I don't. That means anyone who plays pvP as their thing, will always have the advantage over players like me, because no matter how good or powerful my char, he's built primarily for PvE.
I wouldn't add tactics for example, yet a PvP dominant player might.
So, as the two things require such differing skills, it strikes me they should allow a limited "respec" that activates when you enter a PvP zone.
My Invul/en mel (who you know well) is fine at PvP. Wins more than he loses unless I'm up against psionics for example. That's without customising him for purpose.
But my SS? Without the changes you suggest, I dunno. Guess there's only one way to find out but I just can't see him doing anything significant, for reasons I outlined. -
I have an invul/ energy melee Tanker.
He can hold his own in PvP against most types except the obvious. But:
I also have an Invl SS Tanker and my question is, can he?
I'm comparing the two. If you take my energy melee damage output it's far greater than Super strength. SS can't compare to energy transfer and total focus combo.
Especially with build up added on.
Yet even those two arent enough to put an enemy down necessarily.
So how can super strength? Especially when every two minutes you get the 10 second rage drop. Surely any enemy can use those ten seconds to take the advantage.
It seems to me that Super strength doesnt have enough suprise in it to be a valid contender in the Pvp stakes.
It is what it is.
I'm debating whether to bring my SS Tanker into PvP so what do you think?
Am I wrong? -

Blimey Def. You still around? Havent seen you in ages. You on Union nowadays or something?

[ QUOTE ]
Shatter is a high damage cone attack (its arc has been increased), crowd control is a cone, whirling mace is an aoe. Sure war mace is the badest set for pve purpose...
Hit 2-3 mobs with shatter and you overdamage KO blow.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm a bottom line kind of guy. Numbers, as such, don't answer all the questions for me.
To me, all Tank damage sets should equate roughly, but in different ways.
In some cases this works.
EM is the hardest hitting set by quite a way but it doesnt have aoes to speak of.
Fires damage aint great but it has aoes and damage over time. Stone melee has a bit of everything and so on. If you put SS into the mix this balancing of styles actually works quite well.
I understand Mace is signicantly weaker in most departments and I dont know why that is or why the devs haven't attended to this fully. I never played it or axe or ice so I can't say.
I can say the model i described (equal playability in different ways) should apply to every tanker secondary.
It shouldn't be a case of, this set is gimped or this set is significantly superior but rather this set does this better and that set does that better.
Which brings me to rage. The fact is, in my opinion rage shouldn't even exist. Or, if it does, it shouldnt even have a penalty. This isn't one of my rants. It does have one so life goes on but:
the damage bump does not make it the mightiest damage dealer in the AT. It makes it a decent set.
So, strictly speaking, the damage we deliver on rage should be part of our base. It certainly doesn't justify a penalty because we should have that damage (or thereabouts) in the first place.
So we talk about the accuracy buff which is nice. Means we can release slots we would otherwise put acc into or we could go to the acc cap without too much effort.
Now that's worth a penalty.
Or is it? Will Power gets me to an endurance power better than stamina with no penalty!! Earlier than stamina as well.
I save 3 (count em 3) powers cause I don't need to get stamina any more. I can get it too and then really rock, but I don't have to. And there's no penalty.
I can also, with SS add focussed accuracy (in my 40s) to rage. But I still get the penalty.
So, given the way I think, rage probably shouldnt exist at all. And mace and any other secondary that is clearly underperforming should be buffed.
My personal observations on the matter. -

Didn't shatter get its activation time reduced?
