Hello All,
I'm not sure if/when I'm going to be able to log on at assigned times again. Life's gotten a little crazy. I had a lot of fun with you all, I'll still try to log on and see you all around.
JT -
I might be able to do half the time this Thursday. My work schedule is moving around and I'll let you all know.
-
We're having some pretty big inspections at work (nights), and I have no food at home -- so I'm going to have to beg off this week.
Sorry all =(
I should be back for next week, baring insanity at work. -
Lvl 10...check
1st Arc...check
RP reason for being gone...on the way
Jt -
Just finished watching the episode. I remarked it was very "Birds" like as well. I enjoyed it, don't think the scientist is the guy either, & noticed Wash's affections.
I think it's the love interest for the teenage boy. If not, then the soldier who's interested in the daughter.
Pretty much at this point I just ffwd through anything involving the kids. I really don't care, and I was really hoping some of them would die in the initial episode. I agree it was good to see them punished. So far I've missed nothing by skipping those parts. Hopefully they'll do something with the kids arc's that makes them more important than the 13-18 demo.
I was also shocked at the need for a currency. Everything is provided for them--to include food. So it seems luxury items can be "purchased" for terra-bucks or whatever their $ is called.
In there system there's no need for it. Bartering/trading should do fine, just as it showed when the kid tried to trade his hat. There's no 'faith of the people' because then I could just name any price I wanted... and someone could just go make more cloth strips or metal strips. Do the Doc's make more for their specialized training? What about the security guards?
Actually the guards are the only reason I could see having some kind of currency now that I think about it. Their trade isn't easily barter-able. But, again... there's no one there without reason. In fact.. it should be a perfect communist/socialist environment!
Metal is apparently very precious so I doubt they'll be minting coin any time soon. -
Oh snap.. missed all this. Was working and still unpacking my house. I'll get up to lvl 10 and meet you guys.
Let's say Adam was busy hunting down family issues.
Um... where can I find twinshot's arc? Still a newb.
Thanks!

Wow.. that was fun!

Forgot this info -
Character Name: Adam Hammer
Inv/Mace (Sledge Hammer) see what I did there?
Jt
EDIT - It's Adam Sledge.. see what I.. (dodges vegetables) -
Adam awoke with a start. He tried to jerk his head up but couldn't move. His head was stuck and cold pressed against his temples and jaw.
"Interesting.."
Adam last remembered his squad leader telling him it would be an easy ride and to get some sleep. But his squad was no longer around now. In fact, from the tiled ceiling, to the metal light in his face, Adam didn't think he was even in Iraq anymore.
"Ah you're awake," a voice in the brightness said. Shortly the cold was removed from his head and he looked down at his left arm.
Blood. He pulled his left arm to his face and saw a cut, sutured and healing, but still an obvious rend in his flesh. Adams mouth dropped open and he started to sweat in the chilly room.
"I know," said the voice. "It's been awhile since you've seen your body take damage. I think it would have been.. oh.. 7 years old, maybe 8 when the bruises finally stopped showing up. Am I correct?"
Adam replied, "Yes sir."
Adam tried to check his right arm but it felt distant, but strapped. He looked over but there was a guard around that side of his head.
"Oh no. We can't have you looking their yet. You're not ready! Tell me about when the bruises stopped."
"No sir."
"Oh come now. We've just met, but I know an awful lot about you Mr. Abre-"
"That's not my name, Sir." Adam forcefully interjected.
"I see. Well, you're my new friend," Adam recognized what sounded like a cigarette drag and exhale, "and we're going to be spending much time together. So you might as well tell me when your powers developed. You know, the ones that make you impervious to everything. Or do I have to prove you still have them after your attack."
"Attack sir?" Adam was confused. He remembered his squad leader for that convoy, prepping for it, riding out of the Green Zone, and finally falling asleep the first half mile in. But they were never attacked. LCPL Davies was playing his loud rap music, skinny white boy from Kentucky of course, and the bass woke him briefly once. But they never took fire.
"Ah, see. I told you I know more. So you'll tell me about your powers, and I'll tell you why you've been out of Iraq for 3 months," the cool voice from the light said.
Adam winced trying to look past the surgical light to whomever was speaking. He could smell the cigarette now, and the blood. He could also smell burning plastic, and warm metal. He started getting mad, but hid it inside. Anger had to be hidden till it could be used.
"I was 8 when I got my last bruise. At about 7 I noticed I healed faster. Last cut.. was about 3 months before my 8th birthday. My father threw me down the stairs as I stood in front of my bedroom where my mom was hiding and my head bounced off the banister. Sir."
"Ah good. Thank you Adam." The voice said. The voice, definitely male, drew in a breath but before he could make his voice spread from the light again Adam spoke.
"Please use my rank when addressing me. I'm Sgt Traverse, US Marine Corps." Adam said with conviction.
"Not anymore you're not. You know that not identifying your powers upon enlistment is illegal. The Marines could have you discharged for lying to the government. However, your talents are apparent, as is that murderous rage you're hiding."
Adam looked around, wondering how the person could tell about the ball of anger he was building in his chest at being imprisoned. "I've got you hooked up. I can see your heart rate: elevated, your breathing: elevated, etc, etc. I can tell. You need to calm down. The Marine part of your life is over. In fact, you're lucky you survived it. Some of you didn't actually. Look at your right arm now."
Adam looked down as he felt the barrier move. There was nothing, a stump that stopped a few inches past his shoulder. His mind began to reel, then he felt the knife on his shoulder and could see a arm reaching over from the light. The pain was as he had remembered, but again no cut formed. It was over in less than a second.
"I see you're resistant again. I think, and this is just a hypothesis mind you, that when you are conscious you resist all forms of physical damage. Once you're not, conscious that is, you're just as we humans are: fragile."
Adam sputtered, tears running down the sides of his face as it was beginning to hit him the enormity of the situation, "But, I'm human."
"No," the face circled around the light and came in view for the first time, "you're not human."
It was a old man. Wise, and kind looking. Glasses on the tip of his nose, and a grin. He leaned in close to Adam's ear, "I don't like being mean. They're recording this now so I have to be detached. But understand that I am truly your friend. My boy was a Marine in Vietnam and my grandson served as well. Trust me for this little while and I'll prove it's ok here."
Adam nodded slightly, "Sir, please let me stand up."
"Oh, I'm afraid we can't do that right now," the man said again louder to the left side of room. "But, we're going to fix that arm up with something new. We'll also give you some walking papers, and get you started some place new. But only if you're with us."
"But I don't know who you even are or what you want."
"We're an organization offering you a new squad, in a new city, with a new life. Think of it.. as the new family. A new family you'll actually fit in, and protect without fear of reprisal. But don't take my word for it. There's someone else here to pitch you the details. Just, as I said before, hide that 'murderous rage,' before he decides you're not worth it."
Adam heard a door open... -
Hello All,
I'm going to change my power sets to Inv/Hammer. I know.. re-rolling already?!?! Shield.. just... doesn't feel right.
I'll try to get some sort of story on here. I'm really going to try to get into this RP thing. My first time... EVAR! I'm kinda excited!
Thanks all,
Jt -
FYI - I'll be rolling a Hammer/Shield tanker!
-
Sweet. I currently work mids as well. Global is @JT1.
Only got a 27 ice/SS tanker, but interested in running with those on!
I just figured teh servers were pretty dead when I was on.. I must not have been in the right channels. -
So.. can A Hero/Villian go all the way and have access to all the other factions stuff while they're in that.. alignment?
Thanks -
Newb Question - Do most of you just have tankers on all the servers to play? Or is there a character copy/transfer thing you can do?
Thanks! -
A lot of other MMO's do NOTHING for their vets. New players can PL to max level, badge/accomplishment hunt, run raids (or their equivalent) and they're right there with the old players. The only difference is the ol' timer's stories of 'Back in the Day.'
CoH is the only MMO I've played where it consistently felt like community mattered -- for new and old timers. Even when I wasn't playing and just looked at the site/forums.
Doing what you suggest would break that significantly.
I don't have many vet rewards. I wish I had kept supporting this game through the years because it's awesome. But there were times I needed the $14.99, and other times I just needed the.. time.
Vet rewards are great as they are, and are reward enough for what we've paid and supported.

I'm looking forward to joining in on this when I get a Tuesday free.

Quote:I don't know about the pacification.. but.. I laughed out loud at the other one. Also, these two tidbids from trials last night:

/em sighs.
I'll be rolling a toon on Vic soon, can't wait to see you around.. though I only play Heroes. =)
@JT1 -
All,
I'm coming back from a short stint in 2008 and this topic has helped me immensely. Please sticky ASAP.
I would only concur that this is one of the few (only?) games where it doesn't start at 50. Which is why I keep coming back...and never got a 50 (yet!).
Also, the wiki is pretty helpful - http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page
And be sure to use the "Help" channel in-game.
There are only a few interface mods/addons like in WoW (link:http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=226922)
Also, you can plan your hero/villian out here: http://www.cohplanner.com/
This is the most casual friendly MMO you'll ever find, and that's something to love, not detest.
[EDIT] Just thought about the game again in comparison to the 800-lb gorilla.
This game has changed a lot since initial release when I first played. A lot since I played again in 2008. It's not like WoW, which while adding new areas/abilities is mostly static (vice Cata to some extent).
I remember one of the first series of issues completely re-did Faultline. Almost all of these changes/new maps are for free I might add. [\EDIT]
@JT1 -
I'm coming back to play from stopping in 2008 and have a ice/ss tanker. I'm doing fine with it so far, but am a little annoyed that I ended up taking Glacial Armor.. which I NEVER use.
I run on mac so I can't use the mids planner, but I ran it through the web based one and just did basic Enh's since I don't know any of the sets and that sort of thing. I'll figure those out later. I figure the slotting's more important anyway.
So please let me know what you think and/or point me to where I can get some more knowledge -

I'm just coming back to the game from years off and wanted to say this..ordeal..occurrence.. experiment.. has been awesome to read and helped me understand much of a game I left before there were even IO's.
Looking forward to (hopefully) not having to worry about inf.
Been making me think about posting one of these for myself as I figure out the game.

I just re-subbed (after about 3 years) and couldn't log in.
Now I've got to wait.. but it's for hardware so it's ok.
