Although in my hour of weakness I bought the Barbarian costume set.
These were my first two purchases. Hate to pass up a sale, and I had an immediate use for some of the Barbarian pieces.

Believe me, I hear ya: it's a new shiny plaything, it looks pretty cool, a lot of people are running around with it, blah blah blah. But be a smart shopper. If you aren't going to get a decent amount of mileage from it, don't get it.

I am the opposite of you: I don't play melee much. So when Street Justice and Titan Weapons come out, unless I think up a great concept/idea/combo that I want to try, I won't be buying them, no matter how cool they may look.
I probably favor range over melee, so it makes sense for me. Agreed on Street Justice and Titan Weapons though - if I don't have a great idea for them (and right now I don't), they can wait. It'll take me plenty of time to level up the other sets anyway.
  3. Yeah, I usually opt for safety over speed anyway, and I did roll one. Level 7 now, things going very smoothly. The prospects of having two ST holds and Arctic Air/Time's Juncture both running (assuming I can manage the end) intrigue me.
  4. I've also been toying with the idea of an Ice/Time controller (Ice one of the controller sets I haven't leveled, have Ice Blast), but figured it would be slow. I'll still probably go with it though.

Hmm, never thought to use it for that (despite having it slotted with a KB set...leads to unpredictable spread, but I like the recharge bonus), but I can see it (having played popcorn popper on a Warwolf with my PB recently...yeah, I can see it). Unless completely taken by surprise though I'll have Liquify (KU/hold) and Paralyzing Blast available and Tesla Cage is on pretty quick recharge with bonuses and Hasten. I'll give that a shot on some harder to hold bosses like Forts or Zeus Titans though.

For really tricky situations I'll also use Sonic Cage. Overlapping boss spawns in One Good Spider is a perfect situational use for it.

I just finished soloing my Elec/Sonic to 50 today, and I'd say /Sonic helps with both of these. Sonic Dispersion for mez protection and a little resistance, Sonic Siphon and Disruption Field (seems like it would be easier to set and forget than Enervating Field) for cutting through the resistance of mobs.

I find that I don't use Jolting Chain often at all, but I absolutely SPAM Chain Fences (which seems to pick up everyone in sight).

It IS a visually busy combo though, so it may not be the best on bad comps.

In a way though, I kind of wish they'd try. Not actual players of course, but NPC hero groups. Like heroes fight to keep Paragon basically in the hands of good, villains could fight to keep the Rogue Isles not. If that's what they want anyway; they may not care about Arachnos but they may wish to keep the area as lawless as they can.

Now, we do fight some of these forces, but it's more or less just Longbow. Yeah, there are groups like the Legacy Chain, but those groups seem to be too little in number and are probably underused.

Now, one thing I'd like to see is not to have all Arachnos con as enemies. Porting over the tech from Praetoria might be nice here. One of the benefits of being a villain in a City of Villains is that you shouldn't be hunted by EVERYONE. Home turf, safe haven and all that.
  8. Right - I'm targeting that VIP headstart window. I'm aware they will be disabled after that.
  9. I thought about GR today on my Elec/Sonic. He was one of two I rolled in Praetoria, and he is level 48, soon to be 50 -- hard to believe it's been a year since it launched. I'm running Maria's arc, and just encountered the phasing hordes of Resistance in the Nightstar mission. The most tedious mission I've played in a long time.

Parts of Praetoria are nice, but I'm not sure when I'm going to roll someone else there. In fact, I've been waiting on rolling guys just so I don't have to. My son and I are going to establish a couple of leveling pacts, and I'd rather wait until Freedom so I can start in tutorial and just go blue (thinking of rolling a stalker and maybe a corr).

I do wish my system could handle the zones and missions better. Like others, I get substantial choppiness with the new stuff (not entirely thrilled about new Atlas). It'll be better whenever I upgrade (though outside of CoH, not really any reasons I'd NEED to), but until then it's just as easy to avoid.
  10. I still want red contacts in blue zones and blue contacts in red zones.

Right, I know. I was speaking to the general opinions of "Wow, the art looks great! If they had implemented it just like that there wouldn't have been any issues!" In my opinion, the art (while being very nice art) had some of the same thematic issues as the pre-updated game versions.
  12. While the concept art is nice, some of the features that yielded big complaints from folks are still evident - faces for minions (assuming these are minions) making them less mysterious and more identifiable as human, and a spandex rather than robe base. Tight fitting and cut at their core.

And the heel is funny, given some of the hubub in the comments regarding barbarian costumes.

Tie it to a vet tier.

This issue is actually the first time I've been planning on establishing pacts (following complaints that my Khelds are leveling too fast for my son's). I'll just have to be quick about it, I guess.

This is generally true, though I noticed one difference recently - Rikti Invasions. I've been playing characters on Infinity recently either solo or duo, and hadn't happened upon an invasion in a while. I did the other day and decided to go blast what I could (I typically don't bother to join a team). Every now and then I would see defeat messages appear en masse after Judgement powers went off. Not a big deal, but I did briefly have a feeling of "Aw, man! Quit hogging the Rikti!"

Then I went back to not really caring and just blasting stuff.

I can only imagine leveling up a second build from scratch on a 50.

I'm pretty much in this boat. I'm still best suited to content where I can watch TV, converse with the family, toggle to browser windows, get up from the computer whenever I need to, etc.

I ran trials for a while, but now that I think of it, I don't think I've done any since around when Keyes came out. I've gone back to playing lower level characters. Building them out is just as rewarding as trying to build out incarnate powers, if not more so. And it is still a lot more leisurely.

  21. I'm fine going against something that might beat me (us) once or twice. Anything more than that and any fun is lost.

My son and I were doing the Blast Furnace morality mission last night on our peacebringers. We ran up against a red-con Night Widow boss (not one of the bosses guarding the three captives). We'd already been defeated once by another boss, and were defeated by her at least twice more (she ripped through the purples I brought after the first hosp trip). At that point, we just wanted the mission over.
  22. The most I can recall hearing is that the devs were aware of the issue, but I don't remember seeing that there had been a fix implemented yet.
  23. Ooh, I hope it includes the big Llambda warehouse room map.
