  1. The Justice Girls, Virtue's premier all-female super group, want to know if you're tough enough to take on the craziest race in Paragon City -- The RANDOM STEEL CANYON BORDER RUN. It's a test for the brave and the bold -- make one lap around the edge of Steel Canyon with a level one toon using only sprint power and your wiles to survive. No other travel powers will be permitted on the course and violators will be immediately disqualified.

The race will begin in front fo the Steel Canyon hospital which means if you die on the course, you come right back to where you started.

Admission to the race requires a costume created by using the ever-interesting random button, which means that looks will be interesting to say the least. There will be a costume contest with judges camped out along the course so you can stop and show off or run by and take your chances.

Why take part in this madness? For the prizes, of course. The winner of the race will receive five-hundred million in cold, hard influence to go along with their bragging rights. Second place will receive two-hundred million influnce, third place will receive one-hundred million influence, and another one-hundred million influence will go to the winner of the costume contest. Random bonus prizes will also be rewarded to those who are first through the checkpoints. Music will be provided by Radio Paragon (radioparagon.com).

    DATE: Saturday, October 6.

    TIME: 8-11 p.m.

    LOCATION: Hospital at Steel Canyon.

CONTESTS/COMPETITIONS: There's a race, a costume contest, trivia and general hilarity that comes with the challenge of running a level one toon in a neighborhood they have no business being in.
  2. If the Rikti show up, we'll take a pause to show the interlopers their way out.
  3. The Justice Girls, Virtue's premier all-female super group, are bringing back the event of the season with Summer Heat 3! The fun starts at 8 p.m. EDT Saturday, Aug. 4, at Spanky's Boardwalk in Talos Island. There will be a trio of costume contests throughout the evening, along with trivia questions and a broadcast by The Cape's Agent Crypto.

Starting at 8:15 p.m. is the Best Beach Bodies costume contest with 1 billion influence in prizes. The top man and top woman each receive 250 million influence. The second-place male and female each get 150 million influence. And four honorable mentions (non-gender specific) receive 50 million each.

Starting at 9:15 p.m. is the It Came From Atlantis costume contest with 1 billion influence in prizes. Think fishpeople, mermaids, pirates, sailors, water-logged zombies -- as long as it has something to do with the water, it's cool. The top man and top woman each receive 250 million influence. The second-place male and female each get 150 million influence. And four honorable mentions (non-gender specific) receive 50 million each.

Starting at 10:15 p.m. is the Summer Blockbuster costume contest with again 1 billion influence in prizes. Summer Blockbusters cover a lot of ground, from Ben-Hur to The Dark Knight Rises, so come dressed to impress. The top man and top woman each receive 250 million influence. The second-place male and female each get 150 million influence. And four honorable mentions (non-gender specific) receive 50 million each.

    Hope to see everyone there!
  4. Dear NCSoft and Paragon Studios,
As I sit here waiting for the gates to open to the world that is Issue 17, I was thinking to myself that this could possibly be the worst issue launch I have ever seen.
This isn't my first rodeo as I17 marks the fifth time that I have been a part of this grand game we love to play that they have launched a new issue. But I wonder why I17's launch has been a community relations debacle. Somebody has some explaining to do about several things:
    1. Why so low-key? You go on the website and the first thing you see is basically an ad for dual pistols. You have to click over to see the first sign on I17 and it's an old ad that still says the generic "coming soon." Ummm, is everyone so busy that they couldn't update this when the launch date was announced last week? Dual pistols has been out for some time now and wouldn't an ad for, say, demon summoning, be more appropriate since it's also available with I17?
    2. The 11:53 p.m. posting of server status. I don't know about you, but I am generally not trolling the announcement section of the forums at midnight. I could have last night while enjoying some down time at work, but instead I was trying to determine Ghost of Light's theme song (see other post) and when I could lead a badge exploration tour. If I was in a place where I could be playing CoX I would have been doing that. Ocho is a mediocre community liason at best and knowing that the servers were going to be down for a considerable time on I17 launch day, should have put the word out in a more timely and visible location, i.e. the front page and not four clicks into the forums.
    3. Server status unknown. I hate when the feed posts this because you know that the devs are running shakedowns and we the people are on the outside. Lose the unknown and replace it with down. I hate being teased and FYI Paragon folks, if you want to present yourself in a professional, we're educated kind of way, take a second to read the notice you put up to say you are testing the system. Why? Because "to verify todays new publish" is grammatically incorrect. Todays should be "today's" because it is a possessive noun. Am I being picky? Yes. I expect people to read over their stuff or at least use a grammar check before unleashing an annoying message.
And related to the server status page, why does it still have notes relating to April 7 up there? That was three weeks ago! Keep up-to-date news up there because a lot of people are looking at that page today and wondering the same thing I am.
    4. I go back to No. 1 about the low-key take on I17. I know a lot of people have been running around on test server the past weeks playing with the new toys. Yet why hasn't anyone at Paragon posted up a video of say, the functional tails? Or better yet, ultra mode? They just recently got around to posting up video of demon summoning (got a name picked out for that already) but that's more of a ploy to generate more presales of Going Rogue than interest in I17.
Who is to blame for this? I place it firmly on whoever is supposed to be marketing this game. And it makes me question if ANYONE is actually marketing CoX anymore. Does anyone remember the last attempt at CoX (not Going Rogue) marketing? Let me refresh your memory: It was pre AE. Yes, pre AE. And yet long-term players lament the lack of a population on the 8 servers that are not Virtue or Freedom. Come on NCSoft! Use some of that stack of cash to generate some more interest in this game. People love super heroes and CoX has no peers in the MMO game (yeah, I know Champions is out there but c'mon, it's a CoX knockoff) and after 6 years some have forgotten it's out there. With games from DC (coming soon) and Marvel (coming much, much later) on the horizon, now is the best chance to show off and bring folks into the grand worlds that are Paragon City and the Rogue Isles.
    5. Because a good list has 5 items, I would like to close by saying that CoX is a great game. I even bought a computer to play it on after my old one was nerfed by the video card changes that came with I13. I love the ability to RP, build bases, build relationships, kick serious butt, play dress up, craft, dance nearly naked in Pocket D, leap over single buildings in a single bound, and blow off some steam after a long day at the office by going into a virtual office building and punch everyone in there in their face. I know I17 will make those experiences even much better and that is why for the past 150 minutes I have sat here waiting, waiting for the chance to celebrate not only I17, but six years of CoX. Here's to many more!
    Your friend,
    A Proud CoX Player

I looked into the M.C. Escher method and found that it's impossible. The main reason is that certain items, i.e. lamps, cannot be placed upside down to give you the Escher effect. What is possible are ridiculous amounts of stairs that go all over the place. I did a library like that.
  7. I have made tracks before using lights and they didn't look too bad. Interior-wise might be a bit tough since nothing in the editor really looks like the seats in a subway. But this could turn out pretty cool.
  8. Sounds interesting. But my question would be what kind of museum are you going for? History? Art? Science? Technology? Car? That will determine what kind of "exhibits" you are going to get. Otherwise I would like to see how this turns out. Don't think I am the caliber of builder you are looking for but I am always looking for a challenge. Some of my stuff is in the base items thread if you want to take a look.
  9. Maybe it's there because that's where the corals keep their coffee pot?
The question is -- do undersea creatures drink regular or decaf?

    Hello Virtue!

Howdy y'all! Long-time red player who has come over to the blue side for a change of pace (as well as a chance to scout out the neighborhood ahead of GR).
I am currently looking for an established SG that might need a hand with some building. I have some samples of my work over on the bases comments (just look for my name). I also like taking part in SG events and I do enjoy taking part in PVP and arena activities.
Some more facts for your consideration:
I like to do AE mishs, but despise farming.
Slugging through the sewers is a foul necessity.
My toon is Ghost of Light -- a happy, go-lucky girl that loves the color pink, kittens and shooting electricity at thugs (she's a elec/elec blaster btw).
I get into my toons, but not to the point of heavy rp.
I like exploring the city even when I am running for my life (still need to figure out what zone has what I am looking for).
Due to my job, I am usually on after midnight CST and play for a couple of hours.

So there you go. If you believe I could be an asset to your sg, feel free to leave a message here or give me a shout out if you see Ghost of Light flitting about or reach me on my global @sblamphere.

    Peace!
  11. Tech-oriented builder always looking for something to do. Also have a base on Liberty Red that's open for tours whenever I am around. Feel free to hit me up @sblamphere.
  12. Don't know about you, but the electrical room has always been a problem to figure out something clever with. The power generators are big and awkward and not terribly attractive. So after several attempts, I decided to make the best of a bad situation and put the generators on trailers. And what does every trailer need? A truck to tow it, of course. So keeping with my theme of an assault-oriented base, I present the Mock Truck, the Red Bird and the Long Haul. Enjoy!

  13. Believe it or not, this kind of thing happens all the time. To prevent it, you need to have a clear wall space available with nothing touching it. I noticed on the area where you are trying to attach it there is a light on the wall. Your going to want to move that off. That should fix your problem.
  14. The best thing about the base builder is that there is no "right" way to lay it out. I have seen bases that are downright confusing to navigate, others that very basic. The best bet for a small base is to find what you do most with it, i.e. craft, tp, rez, find internal peace, and have that closest to your entrance portal. Everything else will then fall into place. Best of luck to you on your base. I look forward to your pics.
  15. I decided that I wanted to make my base assault-oriented (it is a VG base after all and one day I want to attack Atlas Park if only in my fantasies). So I built a few things every good assault team needs.

First you need to soften the target which is easiest via air attack. So leading the way is the Air Carrier complete with attack squadrons.

After softening the target area, ther might be a few pockets of resistance still around. That's when I call in the Gooney Bird gunship/cargo plane.
    http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink
    http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink
It can use its autocannons ( http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink )on a target and then deliver freight to the landing zone.

And since you can't hold an area by air attacks alone, then I call in the War Wagon and its complement of heavy cannons and assault troops.

    http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink
    http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink

To instill fear in the local populace and keep them in line, I would lastly bring in the Spider-Bot 3.0, a terrifying machine capable of climbing even the tallest of buildings and raining down cannon fire.
    http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink
    http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink
It also has a comfortable seating area for more troops. ( http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink )

And there's still more to come (someday when I get enough room to build it.)

    AE babies

Pure awesomeness. AE babies are pathetic.
  17. After several days of invisibility, I got CoX up and running again, complete with toons. It was no thanks to the tech team or the ATI folks, I kinda had to figure it out through process of elimination. Here's what I did: Download and install Catalyst 8-6 and then eliminate all signs of 8-12. Restart your machine and CoX and it should work. At least it did for me.
  18. Post #1
I have tried hitting up the technical staff for help and have come up empty do far. Maybe someone else out there has experienced this problem.
I haven't been on CoX for long, having come on board right before i12 dropped. I had months of problem-free runnings through the streets, doing just fine and dandy. Then i13 drops and things are going the same until something happened and I started crashing time and time again before the game even reached the log-in screen. I looked around at the boards where I saw the suggestion to upgrade my video driver. I have a Dell Vostro 1000 laptop with an ATI 1150 video card, so I went and downloaded the new Catalyst and every other new update from ATI as pertinent to my video card. The good news -- the update got the game to reach the log-in screen! The bad news -- all of my toons and every single being in the world are now invisible. They are there, I can see that they are if they've got a cape, backpack or an aura, but there are no arms, heads, legs or torso. It's like they don't exist. I can't even see my masterminds' pets. I have played with all the in-game graphic settings to no avail. After all the crashes and now this, I am extremely frustrated with this experience. An invisible toon is not fun at all, especially when others can see you and you can't see them. Any advice y'all have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
