  1. Hello Freedom.

I am a returning player of about 6-7 years. I played the game way back when it was first released and gave up once I'd hit 50 and realised there really wasn't a lot of end game content to get my teeth into along with several of my in game friends moving to a game who shall not be named lol.

Anyway since coming back i've been trying to catch up on all the changes and so far i'm not doing too badly, however I really need to find myself an active SG to get into the latter stages of the game.
I've been working ons et bonuses, unlocking my alpha slot, getting various accolades done but of course I always run into a snag later like, the spelunker badge, I need to run BAF's or something for certain salvage etc etc, and tbh, its not as much fun solo.

I have heroes on Union as well as Freedom. I'm hoping to stay on Freedom if I can find an SG.

I have a 50 fire/fire Brute, 50 MA/Regen Scrapper and 32 Rad/MM Blaster so far on Freedom with various level 20's knocking about.

Likely I'll be on my Brute Disco Love Machine, my Scrapper Kim Couture, or my Blaster Intoxify.

If there is anyone out there who can help please get in touch.

    Cheers!
  2. Nice one mate

I've never really looked into mental manip, its could be worth a shot. I do see where you are coming from that I might just lack some dps in terms of melee as a corrupter, but of course I will get a lot of debuffs through the radiation pool and ofc as you mentioned, AM.

If you found you could solo an ITF then thats sort of where I'm looking to go. I know that MM helps a lot in finding stalkers in PvP. cheers for the response

Do you have a MID's build handy for your blaster?
  3. Hey people

Been looking into making a radiation blaster. Returned to the game from some time out to find it was now a powerset I could use as a blaster.. hip hip hooray!

I had a rad/rad defender before which I found fun, but I did also find I was healing, supporting way more than attacking so the attack tree which was interesting wasn't something i got to use a lot.

Anyway, I was looking at secondary sets.

Fire is obviously the fun one as there is SO much aoe potential with the two sets, I just imagine mobs will go, oi, you... SPLAT!

I want the hero to viable in both pvp and in a pve aspect.

I read some threads about radiation being a bit more of a melee blaster set so my thoughts on energy as a secondary for the range boost went out the window a bit.

I know mental manip is useful in pvp, but I imagine ice manip would be good across pvp and pve. Does ice and radiation really go together in a sort of role playing way... not that I'd role play at all. Its just for my story.

I think ice might help with my survivability as well?

All the guides i seem to find are rad/elec, I don't really get why you would go elec.

Also, I did think about a rad/rad corrupter. How much dps difference is there between blasters and corrupters??

    Thanks people
  4. thanks Carnifax for your comments, first off I will admit that as a player who hasn't been on the game since way way before CoV was even released, before even the first major patch I haven't read every thread on this forum.
So i'll hold my hands up and say, perhaps if I'd looked harder I'd have found the threads your talking about.
But still, forums are what they are and i wanted a discussion

Praf68, cool I see your point, you would have to have constant PvP as the Villian would be in an area where he techincally isn't allowed. So yeah, probably wouldn't work.

So perhaps, as they have brought in day jobs, Heroes and Villians may have another side to their character, a hidden one, like ofc Clarke Kent, obvious one.
Maybe they would be allowed to roam these areas in this disguise, pretending to be a civillian.
you could do mission maps etc, just not engage in any sort of public fighting with NPC's or your cover would be blown.

these are all just small ideas to try and bring more to the game.
I'd like to hear some your ideas to make it better as well. I will ofc be reading some of these other threads as well to see what has been voiced so far

My real reason for wanting the Villians and Heroes to be allowed to go to these other cities is because sometimes the game is very very quiet, you don't see anyone at all at times. Granted what time you are playing at contributes to that a lot.

Xemulas - Dude you are really taking this too far as if we are fighting with each otehr and making out I'm some sort of emo kid.

you think i can't look at a Brute and figure they are a less hardy version of a tank with more DPS?

Brutes ARE the Villians version of a tanker, they ARE the class that CAN take the most damage.

Dominators ARE the Villians Primary controlling class hence theyre version of a controller.

Masterminds are the only really new AT with having primary as pets, however their secondary is what the Defender has as a primary.

Stalkers have exactly the same Power sets as scarappers give or take, do pretty much what they do, single target DPS. Whether or not they have stealth inherent is besides the point. Generally they are the Villians version fo a scrapper.

and Corrupters ARE the only AT on the Villian side with Blaster Primary, so wait for it, they are the Villians version of a blaster.

Note how I said VERSION, and I think if you read back what i said was, they are basically the same, not EXACTLY the same.

Whether or not they play slightly different roles or not does not make me ignorant. It means I didn't want to have to sit here and spell out the precise differences between them all.

What i was pointing out is, despite their differences, what exactly makes them Evil or Villanous? Nothing! they do the same thing a Hero does.

So before you attack me again, calling me ignorant and a cry baby, why don't you read outside the box of what I've said and tke it more generally and less literally.

Anyone can poke holes in everything written on forums. you actually think if we had been talking in real life once you stated what u did, i wouldn't have said, hang on, sorry, i think you have misunderstood what I was saying, let me re-phrase.

And the fact that you don't like my ideas, fair enough, everyone is entitled to their opinions, I just don't like to be spoken to the way you did. I didn't call you anything so why do it to me?
  5. Ok, well I thought I'd get at least some mature responses from people on these forums, like the guys who welcomed me back to the game after 4 years.

Hold me down with a bat? Come on man, at least have a discussion. You talk about people spouting elitist and trash talk, whats that exactly?

Xemulas, why don't you explain to me what Villians are then?

Why don't you tell me what i'm not understanding? I mean god forbid I might need to get a 3rd Degree to understand a computer game. I think from 7 years of playing MMO's I understand them pretty well.
Perhaps its some sort of comic lore you are talking about which is why you have made this comment? I will admit I'm not an expert on comics, in fact far from it.

Praf68, i'm glad you agree that the NPC's are the Villians of the game, so why can't explain to me why you bring in another side to the game called Villians when they are actually not required?
When what you will do as a Villian is exactly the same job a Hero does?

Right now I hear a lot of people dismissing every comment I make with.. NO or 'Grabs bat', I don't see any decent arguements against my points. Isn't that what a community forum is for?
  6. Trash talk of WoW is based around the difference of the game in terms of competition. Its the same with any game where drops on items which are class only items are avilable.
Also that game if very much about which class the DEV's are playing at the time to which is the most OP.

When there is competition within a game in that way people will start the trash talk and become much more competitive in nature 'yes', but is it really that hard to ignore?
The speed at which you can move in CoX, the randomness of mission positions on a map does make it that bit harder to camp players and annoy them in the way you mean. Although 'yes' it is definitely a possibility.

That is one good thing about CoH, no duals and ways to get ur manhood out and measure it agsint one another and generally be abusive.

The thing is, other than Role Playing, deciding your character is actually evil and playing out that persona, and as mentioned before, re-wording and slight differences in how you go about mission arcs, AT's. What makes a Villian any different to the heroes of the game??

I mean even the At's are pretty much exactly the same, Tankers, controllers, blasters, scrappers, Defenders. the villians may have a different name, a few different power sets and the Defenders instead of having a ranged attack have pets, there is no difference.
And if the villians are not their to oppose the heroes why make them at all?

you cannot deny that generally you do the exact same thing on both sides. Fight against NPC's, NPC groups which are the same, and do misison arcs. unless you actually read the arcs which I'm sure a lot (Not all) don't read thoroughly.

Where is the rift between the two?

As a Hero your enemy is the same enemy as the Villians. Go to a warheouse and defeat a load of Lost, or Freakshow, or CoT.
These NPC's that we fight are the Villians right now, not teh villians themselves who basically do the same job as a Hero to quite an extent.

What it seems so far is, people don't want confrontation with other players OR to choose if they are a Hero or a Villian.
So what they are doing is choosing the side based on what powers they want to use vs NPC's, not choosing the game in terms wanting to fight against Heroes or Villians.
ie, My personality, i'm more of a hero, I want to be on the side of Good. thats not the case. its more, I choose to be a Hero because there are more people on the hero side and the maps are nice and bright.

the mention of merging servers showing a dying game. Giving people the power to create whatever they please in the game with the new Architect isn't a sign of a dying game?
two sides to every story, some will say Yes, some will say No
  7. I didn't say it would be open world PvP. It could be toggled on and off like other MMO's.
The world events tehse days if you don't want to be involved in you can just change Zone.

Seems very strange so many people are completely against it when the people i've spoken to on the Union servers agree with what I'm saying a lot more.
its good to here other peoples points of view on the situation, i'd just like a bit more than, NO or Stick up some gun turrtes.
Can you explain why you are saying no?
Is there a specific reason why you don't want access to other areas in the game?
Are you afraid that if Villians were given access to say Talos Island they'd all go there and never use the villian areas?
Wouldn't you prefer there to be more people in the game? On your server so you have more people to team with?
if merging the servers offered that why is this such a abd thing?
I thought MMO's was all about community and social activities, more people brings a larger community surely?
I'm not shunning any of u as you have every right to disagree, i'd just like some reasoning behind your point blank No's.
  8. I think its fairly obvious that the Hero population is much higher than the Villian side and its not surprise either.
many people played hero side before the Villian part of the game was even released and it is hard to change once you have settled especially when the Villian areas are so different. (This is my second point which will be explained later)

I think it would be a good idea to Merge the Union and defiant servers in order to create a larger Hero and Villian population, mainly villian.

There are obvious draw backs, names being taken, Super Group names, Super groups in general, prestige etc.

I'm sure the Super Group issue could be sorted by creating a save of all information and creating it on Union or vice versa.
names are always going to be a problem, people will be attached to their current Hero/Villian character name especially Role Players.
I'm sure that some sort arrangement could be met to satisfy everyone.

My second suggestion is to open up the entire world to both villians and Heroes.
It seems odd that Villians have their own world and Heroes have theirs. Aren't Heroes there to combat Villians? isn't that the point of bringing in the opposing side?

Because right now, the only real differences in moving sides, is a couple of changes in Archtype, switching of Power sets and the increased damage out put to survivability on the Villian side.

You fight the same NPC groups to a great extent, the missions may be worded differently, you rob banks instead of saving them etc, but essentially the game is exactly the same.
Even in the character creation windows, the costume options are identical, the faces, poses, character postures are all the same and tend to reflect a more Heroic persona than Villian.

Why not allow the Villian access to Atlas Park, Steel Canyon etc? Why not let them interact with each other more on a world scale.
Of course constant world PvP being forced upon everyone would be annoying, that could be toggled on and off.
Surely events could be made just like the Rikiti attacks.

Atlas Park is cleared of all its mobs and the Heroe's must contend with a Villian attack.
if there are fewer villians than Heroes active they could get Bonuses to HP until the fight becomes more evenely matched.
Heroes could be allowed into the Villian Areas to try and clean them up.
Why are teh Villians in dark and beaten up zones? Don't villians have a lust for luxury too?
In fact, wouldn't Villians use the money to live the high life? Girls, Casino's, parties, Sex Drugs and Alcohol you know...

i mean a prime example of a comic book style Hero/Villian city is Gotham. Its a fairly luxurious city in places and beaten up in others, however, Batman - the Hero can go wherever he likes saving the city from Villians everywhere.

I think many more people would play on the Villian side if it didn't feel so much like being excluded from heroes completely other than selected PvP areas and Pocket D.

Heroes go through possibly 4 maybe 5 dark areas on the way to 50 and could completely avoid them if they wished and stay in teh bright and beautiful cities like Atlas, galaxy, Steel Canyon, Skyway, talos Island, founders falls, Brickstown etc etc

Give the Villians a chance to have some freedom and options. Give them more zones to move through instead of having it so tailored. Starting in mercy Island, finish the Contact, move to here, finish that contact move here.

if they could go to Kings row instead of through the Mercy door wouldn't that be fun for them? and fun for the heroes seeing a Villian running around their so called neighbourhood.

I don't know about the rest of you, but playing on either side, i'd feel much more of a bond with it if our common enemy was in my face rather than locked away on a bunch of islands or another land I can't access.
  9. Since I;ve been abck I haven't really touched my fire/fire tanker at all.
I played way abck when I coudl herd 5-6 packs of freakshow on drek missions into a corner and start a bonfire.

yes it was ridiculous, yes it was overpowered, but whatever anyone says, people always farm, peopel always ask for power levelling etc, and judging by the number of fire/kins out there i'm not wrong lol

Anyway, other than the 17 mob aggro cap, what is the real problem now with fire tankers?

What I've noticed so far is that the basic weakness is that unless a mob is controlled, Burn is utterly useless.

In fact it would be better used as a place for a healer to stand.
Stand here, there is more chance of a leprechaun pulling huge pot of gold from your behind than a melee mob coming in here.
its like letting one go in an elevator, you drop burn and eveyrone scarpers lol.

So, i was thinking of ways to combat this, I tired various pulls, hiding in places the mob just had to come to melee, it didn't really work.

however, i'm sure someone has tried this which is why I'm asking. If you took presence and invoke panic, could you essentially pull your 17 mobs into a corner, pop that and start your little bbq as before?

or has there been otehr changes I'm not really seeing to the fire tanker making us much weaker than before?

We have always been vulnerable to Psi, but is there anything else?
  10. I've been levelling a WP/WM tanker myself lately, and I have major issues with it for other reasons, not just the PvP.
The Mace power set has way too many tempting attacking options for you to be a really viable tank.
I just can't bring myself to sacrifice them. Every time I make a build I get to 50 with no travel power and not really making myself as hard as I could be.

I mean look at some of them, jaw Breaker, clobber and shatter you just want because its got such high damage. Then you want the two AoE attacks because once you have herded mobs you wanna do a bit of damage too right, so you take crowd control and whirling mace. And then you think, well, why not have them hit as hard as they can so take build up too lol.
As a tank you just have to take taunt.
So basically there I am with only Pulverise not taken lol.

And yes you might say, well, you are a tank not a scrapper. But come on, you can't have maces on a scrapper.

besides, is it a written rule that if you are a tanker you MUST be a tank. I guess you would be a pretty shoddy DPS in comparison to a scrapper, but it can't be that bad really can it?

You take pretty much everything on the def side as well leaving you barely enough power space left for stamina and the fighting pool.
    Its crazy.

it would be such an ace scrapper set. probably slightly on the over powered side hehe

Sorry this is completely off the topic of your pvp mate, I just thought i'd vent my frustrations
  11. yeah nice one mate, some really informative stuff Thanks

I'm sure i'll get into the swing of it again fairly quickly, the general game play doesn't seem to have changed any other than people are all alot more clued up on how to play. Very few wipes and stalled missions, and of course the community is as friendly as ever

I have to say I did notice a lack of real taunt/aggro on willpower, other tankers were taking threat off me very easily.
I guess having two forms of endurance recovery does mean you can dish out the attacks to keep threat. I'll have a mess about with it and see
  12. hello, well I used to play a long long time ago on my character Chilli pepper a fire/fire tank. this was way before CoV came out so i have missed out on a lot of new things.

Been plying for almost a week now, had a lot of fun messing around with different toons.

I've decided to make another tanker.

So far i very much enjoy the willpower set mainly due to the quick recovery. I have this on my scrapper, plus the psyonics resistance is great.
I'm thinking with quick recovery and stamina I can generally choose any secondary and not worry about endurance drain too much.

I remember this being a msaaive problem with my fire tanker which was even before they stopped allowing full stacking of endurance mods through stamina. After checking Wentwroths i've noticed some other enhancements with endurance mods and other stats included.
Does this mean I can stack fully these and not have to worry about diminishing returns?

Shield defence also looks very nice, I just don't like how many toggle defenses they seem to have and I really don't like weaknesses to psy.
i remember some missions arcs in peregrin and psy mobs shredding my fire tank, it was horrible lol.

So talking secondary powers. After a bried look through the ability captions, ie moderate damage, high damage etc etc, Mace and Axe seem to have the highest overal DPS?? or at least the biggest hits with Energy Melee quite close behind?
    is this the case?

Really don't want to be fire melee or ice, ice is basically the same as fire just its cold instead of hot lol. I think the fire and ice swords look slightly lame as well :P

I have a peacebringer at 20 so I just got White Dwarf. i'm presuming there is just no substitute for a real tanker and it will do a decent job just not as good as a real tank?

What is all this talk of set bonuses etc through Merits?

I'm really quite clueless right now on certain aspects of the game. When I played my fire tanker was insane and could tank as many of any mob as it wanted as long as there was no psyonics. they have since had a huge nerf which is a good thing, it was silly before.

    i'd appreciate any help

And if possible could you keep it as simple as poss, I've read some theory craft posts with letters and numbers about soft caps and hit caps etc. i'm afraid although i know what you eman by capping etc the figures mean very little to me
