Radiation and what?

Hey people

Been looking into making a radiation blaster. Returned to the game from some time out to find it was now a powerset I could use as a blaster.. hip hip hooray!

I had a rad/rad defender before which I found fun, but I did also find I was healing, supporting way more than attacking so the attack tree which was interesting wasn't something i got to use a lot.

Anyway, I was looking at secondary sets.

Fire is obviously the fun one as there is SO much aoe potential with the two sets, I just imagine mobs will go, oi, you... SPLAT!

I want the hero to viable in both pvp and in a pve aspect.

I read some threads about radiation being a bit more of a melee blaster set so my thoughts on energy as a secondary for the range boost went out the window a bit.

I know mental manip is useful in pvp, but I imagine ice manip would be good across pvp and pve. Does ice and radiation really go together in a sort of role playing way... not that I'd role play at all. Its just for my story.

I think ice might help with my survivability as well?

All the guides i seem to find are rad/elec, I don't really get why you would go elec.

Also, I did think about a rad/rad corrupter. How much dps difference is there between blasters and corrupters??

Thanks people

I can't speak to PvP, but for PvE-

Rad/MM is one of my favorite blasters. I use a S/L softcapped build, combined with Drain Psyche (115 hp/s and capped recovery on a good pull with spiritual alpha) it's plenty sturdy to hang in melee and make the most of it's PBAoEs. I solo'd an ITF on mine with just a t4 spiritual for incarnate powers.

Rad/Fire, as you mentioned.

Rad/NRG is a decent choice for the melee attacks and ability to stack stun.

I've never considered Rad/Ice, but that could be interesting. Irradiate, whether due to it's DoT aspect or -def, has a tendency to cause flight; flooring their run speed or making em flop like fish out of water might help there.

I'll leave to someone else the blaster vs corruptor quandary, Rad for blasters is a bit different in terms of recharge times. The big difference would be dual build-ups for the blaster, vs. AM and scourge for the corruptor, but a lack of melee attacks and a slightly lower base dmg scalar (1.15 blaster v. 1.0 corruptor, i believe).

Nice one mate

I've never really looked into mental manip, its could be worth a shot. I do see where you are coming from that I might just lack some dps in terms of melee as a corrupter, but of course I will get a lot of debuffs through the radiation pool and ofc as you mentioned, AM.

If you found you could solo an ITF then thats sort of where I'm looking to go. I know that MM helps a lot in finding stalkers in PvP. cheers for the response

Do you have a MID's build handy for your blaster?

Corrupter base damage is actually .75 to blasters' 1.15, a very noticeable difference. Scourge is stellar against hard targets but for general gameplay it does not make up a gap that large. The corr would also be clickier than the blaster in that you frequently need to apply your debuffs. The flipside of that obviously is that you have debuffs to apply, making you almost certain to contribute more to the damage of a full team or league than the blaster can, and even more soloable in certain cases. However, I find that defiance deserves more credit than it sometimes gets when discussing soloing - if you build for defense, you can burn down a lot of bosses with your first two primary and first secondary attacks without dying.

The corr would be a much more straightforward ITF soloist. You might not even have to try to single pull Rom; simply debuff him into a kitten, summon your victoria and light him up.
