  1. ok, fair point PRAF68, i hadn't thought of that. ah well, no-one said making a good game was going to be easy. if your point has merit, then it does serve as a "sanity-check" to the whole idea granted, but its still an idea with merit of its own.
  2. i haven't read all the updates on this thread since last time i posted here, so apologies if i'm repeating, but here's something i meant to say last time and forgot. i dont think anybody would expect to be able to take a wheelchair as a costume option and expect to represent a martial arts character. i dont think peoples expectations are that high, mine certainly aren't. so, on that understanding, i dont think wheelchairs are that problematic, if players expectations of how its implemented are realistic.

one other thing, and maybe i should start another thread for this. i would like to see Robotic, Skeletal legs to match the arms you can choose, i think its the chest options, with skeletal, right, left or both arms). i think the current robotic (from the monstrous options) are just too chunky and bulky. the robotic skeletal arms are much sleeker in style. it would be good if there was a leg option to match.
  3. Good Job all, and thanks to Omega once again. also thanks to Psygon and Saphic for being so generous with the EoE's. finally, i think the coolest thing about this raid was just simply getting so many defiant guys an gals together in one spot for a common goal. its good to see the community on a server coming together. hope it happens again, and hope theres some more content for events like this in the future too.

Very very difficult to have PvP enabled in only part of an instance.

They could add arena terminals as base items though.

i also like, good suggestion, i still like the idea of being able to customise the base itself for this, as per my previous suggestion, but if this technically difficult i think this is a cool alternative.
  5. i really like the idea, especially if you could actually create/customise the rooms you wanted to be "pvp'able". i actually didn't think of it as an "arena" replacement. more like a training room, like the x-men have in the comics. i've often thought when crafting defense rooms in my base it would be cool if i could actually enter these rooms as a training exercise, maybe even fight with an sg member at the same time in them.

as an aside to this, being able to design your "training room from hell" would provide good sg training for base raids prior to the raid itself. you could test your own defences/attacks versus the sorts of defences/attacks you expect to encounter in a base raid.

before we all start poo-poo-ing the idea (why bother saying that, whom i kiddin?) because of technical issues, i think the idea at least is a cool one, and might encourage sg's to do some cool things as a group in their base.

ummm... is this not a lot of to-ing and fro-ing about a fairly simple suggestion? unless it can be shown to be BAD suggestion, what does anyone have against the idea of wheelchairs in the game? sure, it needs to be prioritised against all the other work going on, as any suggestion would be. and also it would need to be implemented in such a manner as not to break existing game features etc... but isn't all that a given?
i just think, given the scale of the suggestion (and it is a Suggestion forum), the amount of opposition is a little "off the scale", considering this is a cosmetic suggestion.

    Sorry Cap,
    We are sorta off topic.
We did agree that Wheelchairs are bad idea for players, however we did agree that it might be an acceptable improvement for architect (eg - npc contacts and such)
Now the issue seems to be whether or not civilians and mobs should be allowed to be enhanced to look better, get stuck less in walls, and have better AI and pathfinding.

Which everyone seems to think the answer is NO, because we want PVP fixed.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No they don't. Learn to read properly.

I'm opposed because of the poor "Development time Spent" vs "Potential gain" ratio. But you seem to be too dim to follow the argument and instead prefer to throw out random Software Development models and weird imaginary Ethical scenarios which have nothing to do with anything.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Carnifax, as a suggestion, the idea has merit. and it is a suggestion, just that. not a proposal for an ill concieved project plan. we're not even talking about a huge change (from the players point of view). who are we, and you, to decide what the actual "ratio" of development time to "benefit" is? i certainly dont have any visibility of the developers day to day schedules! This is a suggestion forum, where players should feel free to make "suggestions", and not have to defend them with high minded philosophical arguments or cost-to-benefit spreadsheets.

i may be missing something myself here in this whole debate but where does all this "heat" come from? its not as if we are discussing a game imbalance that hinders play or enjoyment here.

surely there are other topics in this forum that deserve a more rigourous "kick up the proverbial" than this one?
  7. right you are, i'll simmer down then.

    No?
  9. I've read some of the opinions (pro and con) and i can find stuff on both sides which is worth reading. that said though, as a creative option, i like the idea, though i can think of other content which i would like to see first.

i wouldn't enable that costume piece with anything which threatens my "suspension of disbelief" however. so probably no wheelchair bound scrappers. Blasters, controllers (and villain equivalents) and maybe even certain PB and WS configurations (maybe they only get the use of their legs when shape shifted?) could all realistically use their powers from a wheelchair, and would also serve to highlight the brains over brawn stereotype of non melee types.

although CoH is very much an idealised world, i think it would add to immersion for all if there were a few "less idealistic" body types around in the game world, whether pc or npc.

i acknowledge that it may be a lot of work for maybe not the greatest benefit, but i like the idea.

If they ever do rework the mail feature it would be nice if they included the ability to either send mail to a global name or be able to look at the mail on your other characters without having to log from one to the other.

i like this idea. and to be fair another NCSoft game (Guildwars) already has it. i currently dont understand why anyone would have a problem with it. its useful, convenient, doesn't break the game, and means there is less chance of players (real people) losing stuff they worked hard to get (in game items/inf = real life hours invested in earning).

To not provide a supportable method of doing inf/item transfers because of some obscure principle ("WOW is EVIL"??? or "It must not be like WOW!!!"... oh ffs) seems to be very much like the powers that be burying their collective heads in the proverbial sand.

Currently you have no choice but to trust someone who you've probably never met, and likely never will in real life, to either hold on to your goods while you relog or to be given rights in your own sg so he can invite you when you relog so you can at least share items via storage (if your prepared to start your own sg for this reason alone).
this completly goes against any *net savvy* i've ever heard of when it comes to trusting people online. and to top it all, NCSoft completly absolve themselves of any responsibility if said trade/sg invite ends in tears.

the only other way around this is to have two accounts, which is hardly a recomended or simple option (cost per month plus spec of pc may not allow two sessions, or just simply cost of owning two play worthy machines?). A bit like the AWD movement key convention of most first person view pc games, that most game developers adopt, there are other convention-al things players expect to see in a game. i dont thhink i've seen a single comment on this thread that adequately clarifies why an in-game storage container or mailbox system equivalent would be a bad thing.

By the way, i hate WoW as well, but that does not mean every feature thats in WoW must be avoided at all costs when seen in another game. So i agree with the original poster here, just cos WoW has something like this already does not give any weight to the argument that "its a bad thing".

    rant over.
  13. Hi Omega,

i have a lvl43 Defender(Empathy/Psy) called Mr Whisper with Recall Friend and all the powers from the emp set. i'm currently assigned to YT2(Hunters Moon - scrapper). if you think you might want me to swap him out for the emp defender let me know and i'll focus on leveling him up as much as poss between now and the raid itself.

    Base Defences

I came across your post looking for the exact same information you're asking about... wierd how in over 6 months theres been no answer to this. if i come across anything i'll post it here.

  15. YT2 was fun with good team spirit, so happy to be back there if poss please

same selection of 50's as for previous raid otherwise. Sign me up!

  16. its a shame we didn't do a count of how many rockets, and which types, we had. we could make a judgement on how much damage was done and how many more were needed to clinch it. It was only another 10%!!!

it might be better to play safe next time and stick with Plan A though (easy to say in hindsight i know), or at least clear down to the 25% bloom and then use the nukes as a speed up if EoE are running low, i dont know. I also thought that asking all those melee types with a ranged attacks to help out with the blues was inspired thinking on someones part, my scrapper has one with a quick recharge time on it, so if all melee types that were there joined in, it might be the "tipping point" thats needed if the yellows have been cleared first. i assume part of the problem at that point was that with the yellows down the greens had fewer mitos to heal and could focus heals, so it became harder to kill the blues? anyway, i thought that was a good idea, and meant everyone could be doing something at that point.

Personally, i'm always impressed when someone manages to pull together so many people all at the same time and make things happen, so well done to Ommy and the team leaders for that. i've been playing for over 2 years and never done the hami raid before, so i'm grateful for the chance. I think also its great for the community on the Defiant server that so many people showed up and got together to accomplish a goal. it was cool to see so many other players for something else other than a cossie competition

Big thanks to Psygon for sharing her stash of EoE's with the team, if she hadn't of done so, i would have been nothing more than cannon fodder. great looking cannon fodder, but cannon fodder nonetheless

looking forward to the next one, and to sticking the big overgrown ameoba where it hurts!

  18. thanks dude, appreciate the clarification. standing my sg down to DEFCON 5.
  19. I'm confused!!! Do IOP's actually exist or not??? if they dont exist, is all current base raiding effectively "friendly"?
  20. Can heroes raid villian bases and vice versa? i'm trying to encourage some base raiding in my sg on heroes and we have a villain sg as well. i thought it would help the more nervous members if they were playing against people they were already familiar with as well being quite fitting i think that one side should be villians and the other side the "good guys".
