Logistics question, but I'm sure someone with a better grasp that me has an answer: How do we get 100 kins around the Tank, tight enough to launch ? All I can think of is a "gauntlet" formation:
I X I
(I's are Lines of Kins, X is Tank... SCIENCE !)
and then the Tank waddles/runs (Guess we could SB the heck outta it !) through the gauntlet, launching at the end ?
I already went and made a second fun build for my Kin -
Yet another thought
Have any of the other servers bothered to do this ? Are we gonna be famous ?
-
Whenever this gets off the ground (SEE WHAT I DID THERE ?
), we need to make sure someone videos it... like, oh, I dunno...

Brief interlude
I made a separate thread for the discussion of launching Stone Tanks into orbit. Please use it
I'm not trying to be snarky here, but we finally have some great conversation going about issues that run end to end on this server, the resolution (or at least addressing) of which may help our "community" grow, and it seems like the Kin thing just kind of got jammed in there non sequitir style.
Flames go to me at @bamahulk. Comments on launching the Stoney go over yonder ::indicates new shiny thread::, and finally... passionate thoughts go on the next post after I get done babbling here. -
Somehow, the "How Many Kins Would it Take To Launch a Stone Tank ?" question is running like a persistent weed in what I, as the OP, would like to keep a on-topic discussion of- for lack of better phrasing- quality of life here on Protector. No offense, y'all. If you wanna flame, send 'em to @bamahulk in PM's. If you wanna talk logistics of putting a Stony in orbit, here ya go !

We should totally be able to make this happen! I bet we wouldnt even need 100 kins - more like 40-50 - with everyone speed boosting, we could get IR's recharge way down and stack it 2 per person...
We can do this! -
Very skillfull references back to other parts of the Saga. Helpful, without being obtrusive
Also, I liked Ahren trying to warn Cerise off Six-Four

Just caught up (again) and...wow

Quote:Being the OP (on a thread that actually took off for a change !) I can say that Witchfrost is dead on with what my intent was with this thread. And it held for a good while. Having said that, if we as a group "just need to let it drop", then by all means let's do so while things are relatively civil, and the lessons we've learned can remain unsullied by flames.Well, based on the PM I just received, I have to say this thread's busted and done, at least for me. I believe the initial post wanted us to have a frank and open discussion, without worrying about hurting feelings and the like. Apparently though, I'm just a big ol' meanie, and certain folks can't handle it. Strangely, though, quite a few people have agreed with what I was saying, so I can't have been too off the mark.
However, if someone got their nose out of joint because a painful truth was revealed...well, revealing painful truths was my intent as well. Part of healing is removing the cause of the pain; you have a splinter, you don't wish the pain away, you remove the splinter, treat the damage, and heal.
We as a group CLEARLY have some "splinters" Some are tiny and almost inconsequential (My "I was here before the earth cooled !" rant was one of those), and some are universal and in urgent need of being acknowledged and dealt with if we indeed care anything about (re)building community.
Witchfrost, I have to admit here I kind of hijacked a very good point of yours to address my pet peeve. It was a tenuous seque from yours to mine, and I almost fear it started the current friction. So, I did understand your point, I just misused it.
Also, as Kid mentioned briefly, he and I haven't always seen eye to eye. However, it didn't take a great leap to "borrow" his response in another thread to begin this, it just took admitting that 1) He had good points that I felt touched on some widespread issues and 2) It wasn't worth carrying a grudge anymore. If anyone has an issue with someone else in this thread, these forums, or this game, take a moment and ask yourself why. Some of you will come up with valid hurts, slights, etc. that have yet to be dealt with. Some of you, if you're being honest, will come up with something ridiculous, and hopefully that will allow you to move forward.
So, now it's up to y'all. If this seems to be unretrievably busted, then I'll ask Niviene or Ocho to lock it (Not delete, since I think "we've done some good here", and I'd like to see it remain for others to read until The Next Purge.) Or, we can all take a breath, maybe let things set for a day or two, and press on toward rebuilding something we seem to all agree is worth the effort. -

Witchfrost touched on something that, for lack of better phrasing, I'll call a pet peeve.
Quote:(Emphasis mine, obviously) And please let me preface the following by saying I have absolutely no gripe with Witchfrost. None. He just gave me a opening to "vent", and hopefully I can do so with some skillI bet you two-thirds of the people you RtR with don't have a clue who many of the real movers and shakers and long-termers even are on this server any more, and that's a sad fact.
I hear WAY too many statements like this:
"Well, I've been here since Beta, and let me tell YOU something, New Player ! Back before ED, we were GODS ! I recall when Someone You Never Heard of and Doesn't Play Anymore, But People Still Invoke Like He or She Belongs in Some Pantheon did The Thing You Just Asked About, and Did It A Helluva Lot Better Than You Can Ever Hope to Achieve !"
I understand "bragging rights" play a role in this game; Witchfrost touched on how Protector's achievements were noteworthy, and they certainly are. I understand people- especially good players- are missed by those they played with. But at what point does fond rememberance turn into "You should listen to me solely because I've been here longer and knew people you didn't." ? When the "glory days" talk becomes exclusionary, new players tune out. Why ? Because they have no idea who the heck you're talking about. It's just that stupidly simple. If you had any intent of passing along any wisdom, you blew it at that point.
Wolfie and I arrived literally days after the Croatoa issue dropped. We knew and played with many of the people who are name dropped regularly, and maybe some none of you would know but who were still skilled. But they're gone now. Now she and I are among the upcoming generation of "old timers." We can say "I played with Famous Name, and MY GOD IT WAS GLORIOUS !" But we don't. If those people taught you something, great. Pass it along, and give credit when it's due.
But maybe, instead of constantly invoking the ghosts, we can say instead "Let me introduce you to someone I've played with recently, and whose skills I admire." It builds the community that we seem to agree is strongly needed on Protector, and no one feels like they're not welcome at the party just because they got here late.
Now, as far as new players being jerks and getting the ignore they deserve... that's another rant -
I read this response from kidengineer in another thread, and thought the statements were worth a thread of their own. I think all four have really good merit, so comment on one or comment on all.
If we can keep the responses honest, we may learn something. If this turns into a flame war... well, that's an answer in itself, isn't it ?
I miss the days when Jello Shooters was actually a Protector channel.
I miss the days when the server actually had spirit, we had a mascot, we had things like Robot Rampage and RP Task Forces (Not my thing, but still thought it was cool), we were a server of doers.
I miss the days when this was a close-knit community.
I look around today and is a little saddened. Jello shooters was silent for a good portion of the evening. I see people complaining and I see few stepping up and doing things to better the community. WTH happened to us? -

Quote:I remember being told something very simimlar.I actually had to think about this.. And this is the one I remember...
I was told that if you placed your enhancements together in the slots of your powers it would have more of an effect. Like, if you had 3 dmgs, 2 accs, and 1 recharge... If it was scattered like, 1 dmg, 1 acc, 1 recharge, 1 dmg, 1 acc, and 1 dmg. The dmg value would be less as if they were together. And apart of that, if you placed a certain type of enhancement in the first slot, it would do more than if you placed it an other order.I know it doesn't actually make a difference, but I still group them when I can.

Quote:thx for correcting, i was just estimating (i admit was a little low), but its still annoying how 50 people are needed for the average raid (locking poeple out, ect, is just plain annoying, further slowing raids, would help a ton if they added a freakin hospital to the zone at least)
IMHO, the only reason i dont participate in hami raids is cause the rewards SUCK for the time and difficulty (yes i know there have been cases that dont follow suit, but trying to get 50 people to organize themselves is NOT normally easy)
You kind clarified my point. The cap is because of the "horrific griefing" and "paralyzing lag" that was used as an excuse to change the Hami raid so bad. And I agree, for that headache, a random Hami whose value can go as low as 10,000 inf at the WW is nuts. Which is where the social aspect came in, and now that "compensation" is gone.
I've done the new Raid very few times, and even with people who I KNOW are good at what they do (Yes you, Major T !) , it has occasionally been a horrible mess or a "success" that offered a lousy reward. Just not worth the headache, especially when you can (literally) walk into the Hive, walk to where Hami USED to be all the time, and get the Heart of the Hamidon badge in an empty "bowl."
I miss the goofy attacks that failed so horribly. I miss the rallying of the troops by the raid leader, and the thrill of seeing Hami succumb to the focused efforts of the same people who just minutes before were being TP'd and rezzed en masse. I miss the "**** talk". Hell, I even miss Yellow Death LOL -
Quote:I STILL think that one is true LOLTwo game "Myths" I know of which have been busted are:
After poping a yellow insperation, your next attack will miss.
Quote:If you go over and jump up and down on the body of defeated Freakshow, it prevents them from rezzing.
Quote:An Urban Legend that has been proven in the game is: That there is a photo of the original Dev team in the game. (Of course this is more of an Easter Egg type of thing.) -
I'm working on an idea for an AE arc, and I need to gather some stories here. What is your favorite "Urban Legend" about COX ?
My example here (besides Trick convincing me there was a Healing Arrow ! ::shakes fist::) was being told early on that if you dinged 50, then leveled in AP or Galaxy, fireworks would be shot off into the sky. (Yes, I did it
Even after it didn't work on my first 50, I did it again with my second ! )
I know a few others, but I want to hear yours ! -
The one thing I really miss is the old Hami raids, simply because (And, remember, this is an opinion
) I feel we kinda got ramrodded into a "fix" for something that wasn't "broken". We were never really asked, it was just "We're changing this, deal with it."
I know there was griefing (Guess what...there still is !) but it was a social event where even if you weren't the best and brightest at your AT, you could almost always find a team, and broadcast was filled with banter and jokes. Now, the margin for error is so ridiculously slim that instead of a fun gathering, it's a surgical process that often sets tempers on edge. And let's face it...guaranteed death is just plain dumb to design into fight. (Yes, good teams/leaders minimize it, but when part of the planning is "The rezzer needs to leave in time to TP the dead", I feel it's fair to call it guaranteed.)
Lag can't be a real "defense" here. I have the same (if not more) lag when trying a Raid the Rikti run, and from the talk during the fighting, I'm not the only one. Yet I've heard no talk of changing how the mothership works. I have yet to understand why the "Hami Classic" was changed, although many people whose opinion I respect have tried to enlighten me.
Beyond that "pet peeve", I'll weigh in with Ice here. After just over 54 months, I feel the game as a whole runs smoother, and that as the consumer, I'm being offered more meaningful content by the Devs, with promise of player-fueled changes on the horizon. -
Conall's reactions continue to surprise me just a little each time
Very nicely done !

I really liked the frustration when he was cooking breakfast !
