Every single 5th Column general has a different background as Council members that make little to no mention of the 5th Column, as I stated.

    Vandal

    Maestro

The 5th Column was removed in Issue 3. They didn't come back until I11, which was purely a cameo appearance. I12 saw them actually come back, but it was only in the ITF. I15 had them come back in the Reichsman TF/SF, and I16 brought them back as an actual enemy group that spawns in the streets and show up in missions.

I can't provide citation for this, but I remember Manticore stating this once and it became the official reason why. But the 5th Column was removed in I3 because CoV was originally going to allow villains to play as enemies in villain factions. The devs didn't feel comfortable allowing players to be Nazis, however, so the Council was created and all references to the Column replaced or destroyed. CoV didn't go that route, though, but they still replaced the Column and kept all references hidden. If the Council didn't outright replace the Column as a reference, the Column would only be referred to as a "military organization" or something similar.

For years, the Column and all references were, in fact, missing. From 2005 to 2009.

  4. There are not enough Kirby dots in this game.

  5. The way I see it, the powers we got for free were powers that were incredibly unique in concept. Stuff that we sorely lacked, and the game actually needed to round out powerset selection and try cover all bases.

Time Manipulation - We have no other powerset in this game that deals with time. The closest you could ever get to a time-based powerset would be Gravity/Kinetics, but that's a bit of a stretch.

Dark Control/Assault/Affinity - Control-based ATs have no dark powersets of their own. That's kind of a big gaping hole in terms of concept. The only other powerset that might work would be Fire tinted black, but even then, it's a stretch.

Whereas, the purchasable powers seem to be more refined and varied versions of powers we already possess. Stuff that's not really as necessary and can easily have another powerset or two stand in for it if you don't want to purchase this. Thus, it's justifiable to put a price tag on these powers.

Street Justice - Another fighting set. We've got Martial Arts and Super Strength, both with alternate animations, even.

Beam Rifle - Essentially Energy Blasts that come out of a gun. Again, you could just roll up any character with Energy and alter the concept slightly to, say, using gloves or some other piece of tech.

Titan Weapons - Lugging around a big old sword/axe/hammer. We've already got all three as individual powersets, so this one's probably the least unique of the bunch.

Staff Fighting's actually the only powerset I can think of that doesn't have something that can stand in for it as well, Dual Blades or Katana both being stretches. But what makes it not that unique is the fact that it's yet another weapon set, which will do smashing damage, which we already have tons of.

Again, this is only talking about concepts and not actual mechanics of the powers. This is the only real pattern I can see.

    Just saying
That'd be like saying back when Superman was going to die "Oh, but the DC comic writers didn't say that Clark Kent would die!"

At this point, his main persona is Statesman, everyone knows him by that. That's what he is. Marcus Cole is just an old name that Recluse sometimes calls him. He's dead, Jim.

Unless your character isn't a show off, or they happen to use the Huge build, or would just look plain awkward regardless busting out random break dance moves.

Would be nice if, whenever they made super flashy moves, they made an alt animation that was more toned down and reserved.

For a different storyline that'd be great, like some random story arc in Talos or something that deals with you and the enemy groups there. But this specific story needs to reach a specific conclusion, and that gets heavily complicated by story trees. This story does have something unique that no other one does, though, in that you can experience it from both the hero's and the villain's perspective. Nothing else out there does that.

Would be awesome to see branching storylines elsewhere, though, not gonna lie.

A victory on the side of evil every now and again builds tension and makes the villains much more menacing and threatening. I imagine that's what the first few parts were for, along with Statesman's death. Build up the villains and give us a reason to hate and want to them, rather than present us with a bag of HP that the game tells us we should hate as is the case with most TFs and the like.

Also, constant victory on the side of evil just makes for a depressing story where there is absolutely no hope whatsoever. The villains get boring, and heroes become laughable. This is why I believe the story will soon pick up and the heroes will layeth the smacketh down.

What bugs me? What has my "undies in a wad"? Is the manner in which it's written. I'm fine with Villains winning if it looks like the Heroes at least TRIED to foil them.

Right now the arcs have us bluesiders running around like chickens with our heads lopped off.
Best explanation I can come up with for this is the fact that, like most stories, the villains are organized, know where to target, what they're doing, what they want, and how to get it. Meanwhile, the heroes, preoccupied with every other crisis in the world, get surprise attacks left and right from Malaise, Darrin Wade, Marshal Blitz, and the player villain, that they didn't have the proper time to collect themselves.

At the end of SSA4, though, Positron is gathering the Phalanx and organizing things, which tells me that SSA4 will be when heroes start making a come back. Unfortunately, too little too late, but we still have two more parts afterwards, giving heroes plenty of time to be inspired and motivated by Statesman's demise, regroup, pull off a "You crossed the line, villains" speech, and have an epic final battle where the player villains will lose, but the loss will probably open up more plots, schemes, and future victories, while the heroes finally have a moment to mourn and collect the pieces.
  11. Or folks can speculate, discuss, and have fun playing what ifs and guessing games, just like any audience would do with their favorite fictional outlet.

If the talk bugs ya, ignore it.

Oh yeah, maybe this super powerful god of ANGER will feel generous and grant me power..while killing everyone else.
Someone who wants everything destroyed. Not an uncommon trait among some villains. Or perhaps he has a plan to tap into the power of Rularuu once he's freed. Again, another common trait among villains, to control powerful forces.

Given how his plans work, him sitting there doing nothing coupled with liberal use of time travel will be his plan to help.
The game's story arcs are treated as single player and revolve around you being the only hero/villain experiencing said story. Ergo, only one villain has given Recluse back his helmet according to game canon, not the thousands that have actually played this game. Sure you were among tons of Destined One candidates, but you were the one that rose up and made a name for yourself. And even if the devs did drop the story after the first villain gave him his helmet back, then we'd be out of content and have absolutely nothing to do.

Not to mention, some plans fail, some succeed. He had multiple plots, such as his one plot that involved absorbing all of Paragon City's heroes' powers to make himself all-powerful, which came incredibly close to succeeding. Or his invasion of Siren's Call, which worked pretty damn well.

Again, it's possible this was another smoke screen situation, going by Malaise's attitude throughout the encounter, but I don't think the status quo is affected quite as badly as you think.
Due to the damage she suffered, Psyche was left in a catatonic state.

    Bam.
  14. Not a huge fan of how ridiculously flashy some of those moves are, to be honest. Mainly the break dance one. Oh well. Still a cool set, regardless.
  15. Looks bad ***. If the action scenes aren't stiff like in the last movie, I'll love it.
  16. Wow. I just thought the devs posted about it in that one thread. They went effing balls out on making sure no one has a chance at being surprised.

    I am disappoint.
  17. There's a difference between spoiling it within a thread, where you can choose to avoid it by avoiding said thread, and spoiling something in the thread's title, where you can't really avoid seeing it unless you just don't go looking for threads at all. Which means pretty much avoiding the forums altogether.
  18. So, like, it's cool now to just post this as thread titles, now?

Well, a mod posted something, contains the word Death, has the typical "dot dot dot" afterwards, and being used to the way some people around here post, it's not that illogical of a conclusion.

Same, actually. That was my first thought on clicking the link. Then I see the picture and that kinda spoiled the whole thing for me.
