This thread was not the first by far. Here is another example from January 2010 about the star system that mentions the many previous threads with ideas on how to fix it:

    Star Rating = System Failure

The reason this thread has lasted 10 months (not 7) is that I do updates monthly. If I didn't I'm certain it would be buried many pages back.

So time wise we are well past the point where a year has passed since serious concerns about the rating system were repeatedly raised. If the intentions are to correct these errors, if they do see them as errors, why not a word saying something like"hang in there guys, we know and it will be addressed". What would that take five minutes? Add to that that despite three, yes THREE threads going back well over a year asking for suggestions for dev's choices, none have been given from these threads. As far as we know none have even been played. To me, this is a clear lack of seeing MA as any kind of priority. I know the dev's are busy, but I'm sorry I don't believe they are so overwhelmed that not a single response could be posted in that time or a single arc from one of the threads could have been played.

As much as I loved CoH and MA, the hope I have for any attention being giving to MA is all but gone.

I wish it was true, but I don't see it. My original estimate of 10 plays a month has dropped off. One of my 5 star page 3 arcs has seen a 1 play in about two weeks. The other is getting closer to 5 plays a month. At that rate I'm looking at closer to 12 years before HoF. Add to this that it's been OVER A YEAR since the last DC not tied into a contest means no arc slots for new arcs. It's been over six months since I was able to publish a new arc. As time passes and authors continue to be shut out, interest will continue to drop.

These 8 arcs are not HoF arcs, they are arcs with over 100 plays while still staying at 5 stars. There are 7 actual HoF arcs, all published in 4/09. There has not been a new HoF arc in about a year and the next two that are even in the ballpark are also from 04/09.

Besides pointing out just how insanely out of whack HoF requirements are this thread also demonstrates just how much the star rating system is a failure. 8 arcs out 70,249 are holding at 5 stars +100 plays.

  5. February 2011 update. We picked up a new one this month and Teen Phalanx Forever! returned to page 3!

As of February 1st we now have the following breakdown of arcs with 100 or more plays and that are still rated at 5 stars.

Arcs Published Pre-15 - 4(All of these were published in April 09)
    Arcs Published Post I-15 - 4

Total Number of arcs out of 70,249 arcs - 8

Put another way: .0001138% of the arcs in the system have more than 100 plays while still maintaining a 5 star rating. THX-1138 anyone? What? I swear I'm not a nerd girl! Did you know that was also Princess Leia's cell number in Star Wars? OK, OK, maybe a little...

Percentage of current HoF Arcs Published in 4/09 - 100%

    History
    May - 12 (11/1)
    June - 14 (11/3)
    July - 14 (11/3)
    August - 11 (8/3)
    September - 11 (7/4)
    October - 10 (8/2)
    November - 13 (10/3)
    December - 10 (7/3)
    January - 7 (3/4)
    February - 8 (4/4)

Also of note is that it has been over a year now since our last DC not given out as part of a contest was awarded.

I noticed a few new arcs on page 3 and 4 that look like actual story arcs. maybe give them a shot?

  8. Anyone wanting to join either MA group should join the MA Arc Finder channel. If I'm not on and just ask in the channel. Odd are one of us will be on. Also, you can just show up on Saturday at noon est on Triumph in the RWZ since that's the standard meeting day.

    WN
  9. Another thing to consider is that perhaps someone misclicked or accidentally rerated the arc when closing the window. That could give you 5 tickets for a play but still cause your rating to drop. If they rate it again on replay, it will go back up.

In my experience this is a really big mistake that will certainly backfire because of the insanely awful ratings system. That along with asking for plays from the general public is in my opinion one of the quickest ways to send an arc to the 4 star sewers. That was my experience with very active promoting back when I did it too.

I'm actually amazed you could get three people to 5 star it for you at this point, so you clearly have better ideas to get people to play your arc than I do. For the most part, I don't promote most of my arcs other than my sig and let things happen organically.

  11. Wrong_Number

    375,000+ Arcs

Having played many hundreds of arcs and started several times that number only to quit when I found out it was a farm, "test" arc or just something almost no effort went into I'd estimate the actual playable arc percentage to be around 20%.

  12. I have a family get together today so I won't make it. Have fun guys!

    WN
  13. Awesome, both look better than I thought they would though the second (black and white) clip looks more 1940's so it's imo the better of the two. The Sepia looks too old.
    It looks pretty great.

  14. Until the End of the World is another arc I have ran through before, but I gave it another go and found it lots of fun. My blaster did have a tough go of it and I had to knock my settings down to "No Bosses" mainly because I had the misfortune of having several spawn close to each other. Also, I agree with Glenn that not having the Optional cluse listed does through me off a bit, but no biggie.

I was happy to notice the arc is now on page 3. Congrats!

  15. I really like the idea of a promo. The first idea that pops in my mind is a newsreel style promo for Golden Age Secrets of the Paragon Society.

    WN
  16. I'd love to see one of these for Golden Age Secret of the Paragon Society or A Hero in Need...is a Friend Indeed!, but it's a lot to ask doing a 5 mission arc especially since they are both holding at 5 stars. If you get no other people wanting you to do their arcs and feel like doing one of these, great, otherwise I will defer to someone that is more in need of advertising.

    WN
  17. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees. I'm really floored to have two of my arcs win categories with such excellent competition. Thanks to everyone that played my arcs and especially all of you who nominated/voted for my arcs. Also, as always, thanks to Bubba for running this event and sticking with it.

If you have not played all of the nominated arcs, do yourself a favor and do it. You won't be disappointed!

  18. I was going to wait to submit this arc, but with the three month rule I have to submit it now or never!

We have had 6 HOF since pretty early on and a 7th was added like six months back. All are from 4/09. The number I report is the number of arcs that have 100 or more plays and are still at 5 stars.

  20. It's been a long time since I played Casualties of War and I can tell you have made several changes though for the life on me can't figured out what they all were. The battle in the second mission was epic and the best MA created one I've seen. Still 5 stars.

This one is an awfully fun little adventure. You [CENSORED AT THE AUTHOR’S REQUEST]

Likes: “Feels” low level, so mission accomplished! Yet it also feels like I did something important (just not world shattering), so, still, mission accomplished. Nice [CENSORED].

Dislikes: Nearly every custom mob was giving a flat 75% XP, even though, given the level max for the arc, if they were set to custom, and given exactly the same powers most of them would be giving more XP. (For what it’s worth – and I’ve tested this – if you weren’t aware of this, it turns out XP is based on exemplared level, not ‘native’ level, so you don’t have to worry about custom settings ‘shortchanging’ high level characters who want to play – well, unless that was not WAI, and the latest patch ‘fixed’ that…)

Very good, very fun, very well done arc.

    Score: 4.83
Thanks for the mini-review and I'm really happy you enjoyed it so much. I''m going to have to go and check the exp on that custom group. I'm 100% that I went through every arc arc I had and adjusted exp as soon as you were able to do it. Maybe somehow it got reset to default when I was not looking. In any case, the scaling info is something I did not know and that's very useful information, indeed! Thanks again.

Update- I checked and found a few characters had been "reset" to standard including the main baddie. They have all been corrected and give 90-100% exp (the Big Bad gives 100%).

This week's random roll goes to:

    Arc Name: Casualties of War
    Arc Number: 241496
    Author: Dalghyrn
    Number of Missions: 5
Synopsis: On May 23, 2002, the Rikti invaded Earth. During the war that followed, tens of thousands of civilians, soldiers and heroes sacrificed their lives to save Earth. One group of heroes that made the ultimate sacrifice was The SOLUS Collective. This is the story of the sacrifice made by everyone during times of war, hero and civilian alike. This dual arc was based on the official CoH narrative of the Rikti War and adds greater depth to the time surrounding the Rikti offensive against the heroes that took place about six months after the first war began.
Here's hoping a few plays bumps this arc back up to page 3 where it belongs.
