Quote:Just to point out: Beam Rifle launched with Freedom, and I believe Street Justice was three weeks behind it. So that's less than a month.I don't get what all the hate is for this? Nothing about their release of content has changed! When, since Paragon Market opened, did they ever release two paid-for Powersets within a month (assuming we are talking about VIPs here, so not sets free to them) of one another?
What's that? They haven't? Ahh, of course.
But I am just pointing that out. As far as I'm concerned, your point still stands: for them to release the more highly anticipated Staff Fighting only 2 wees after Beast Mastery was highly unlikely. -
My bad. The "600 a piece" was based off information I had read in another thread, and I haven't had a chance to get in the game today yet. My apologies for the misinformation.
-
They look really good, the detailing is very nice. I think the body of the liger should be a bit more slender, though.
I just... I just... *sigh* I am moving to a Steel Canyon penthouse until the Paragon City Zoo gets their act together... -
The Lion Vanity Pet and the Liger Vanity Pet. Both 600 points a pop. (i.e. I'll be keeping my points this week)

Quote:I know we have at least 2 more four-legged-rig additions in the pipe for weekly releases, and it seems completely feasible that one will be released tomorrow but... I don't even care if Staff is out tomorrow or two weeks from now, I just want them to lay off the new rig.Hehe thanks! Been having a blast so far.As a refugee from another popular MMO, I can say that I've never felt more at home here.
You may be on to something. Maybe panther, perhaps? Zwill does seem to have a cat-theme there. At least it'll break up the dog themes we have with all the wolf powers and the coyote travel power lol.
On a completely unrelated note: Rufus, I know what your name is referencing, and I applaud your choice of name. Hail, hail Freedonia! -
Street Justice was pretty much ready upon Freedom launch, but we still had to wait 3 weeks after the official launch for its release (about 5 weeks after the VIP Head Start began). This is par for the course.
And again: they have yet to release two purchasable power sets less than three weeks apart. Beast Mastery was two weeks ago. The earliest anyone should have expected to see Staff Fighting was next week, April 10th.
As for Zwillinger's favorite item: I'm banking on some kind of hat. I don't think Retro Sci-Fi is quite ready for launch, since Dink posted an update just before the weekend, which seems too late to make it into a to-be-published update. -
Quote:Excellent point. The first round of soft sound effect on beta weren't great, but they were a hell of a lot better than the... well, your description is actually very accurate! If those SFX launch, that could very well be a deal breaker for me.I just hope staff melee wont have the "2 angry dogs in a steel barrel fighting over bacon" sound effects. I preferred the previous wet cardboard sound effects. At this point, I would prefer having Zwillinger shout the word "crack" into a mic and have the game play that over and over.
Crossing fingers.

Quote:I'm not sure why they are giving us yet another thing using the four legged rig, but then again, that doesn't show much reasoning eitherim not sure why the stealth power for the panther travel power is there. its not enough for full invisi and you cant stack it something else.
Realistically speaking, they are still trying to give people the four-legged options they always wanted to give, but couldn't, and some kind of stealthy cat was in that group.
If there's anyone here who deserves a birthday present from Paragon, it's Michelle! -
From what I heard, the raid went just as smooth as usual, which I am glad to hear. Sorry I missed it! But I will be back this weekend. Hope to see you then!

Quote:Interesting. I have heard of protection mode, but I think it is more logic than anything, as I am not overly excited about the set. I am not even planning on buying it immediately, as I would prefer to team with some staff users first, see the set in action, and check out some numbers. It is called protection mode. Your brain takes over and moves the date ahead by a week in order to avoid crushing disappointment if it is not released.
I think the entire keep them blind and dumb tell we "spring it on them" approach is WHACK. But hey it is their marketing team.
Quote:Those have good odds, certainly better than Paragon Studios releasing new power sets back to back. I'd lay even better ones for an even later date, though. Beast Mastery needs a few weeks to take advantage of its position as the new shiny before it's replaced. -
Personally, I'm banking on the 10th. I mean, I would love to see it tomorrow, but for reasons I cannot explain, my brain thinks the 10th is more likely *shrug*
-
Quote:The danger isn't "telling people how to spend their money." It is more that publicizing these numbers gives a skewed view of how much/little money is being spent on the market, and could possibly lead to incorrect assumptions about how the Market has helped the studio.Glad to see those people aren't posting here, as they would be ridiculed as being absolutely ridiculous for telling people how to spend their money.
I have not spent anything more than my subscription. Half of that is because I do not have much extra cash to devote to a digital (intangible) pastime, but the other half is that I tend not buy something unless I will use it, and I haven't had use for a whole lot since Freedom launched. Part of me wishes I did so that I could support the game more, but unfortunately I cannot afford to spend money on power sets and what not for the sole purpose of funding further development. -
April Fool's joke about not getting an April Fool's joke?
Surely you must have seen the myriad of topics, including the official one, about the fake items on the Paragon Market... -
The entire costume looks phenomenal. Very well done, Dink.
Retro Sci-Fi has never been my thing, so I will probably only buy the jet packs because they look AMAZING. I cannot thank you enough for (1) implementing functional jetpack back details and (2) including ring-less versions for those of us hoping for something less specific to the genre.
I want to reiterate, though: my decision to pass on the set as a whole is in no way a reflection on the work you've done. It is looking fantastic so far, just not my cup o' tea. -
Why does he ruins it with "*NOT*" in the title?!
I would totally buy the Rularuu costume power, and I would thoroughly enjoy seeing a bunch of Vanities following people around all over the city. -
I learned this within the first 6 months I was here. After that, I started designing my costumes like the suitcase armor from Ironman 2, in that they are all easy to get on. Though, I still need a 6 foot radius of clearance around me to get into my spines scrapper's costume
-
I have to agree with Darth_Khasei.
Personally, I do not mind the idea of the signature story arcs, but frankly, I think there needs to be more influence from the character. WWD7 actually got this right in my opinion, at least hero side (haven't run the villain version). Throughout the entire thing, the basic idea is "it's up to you, Character." The NPCs just become allies working for the same cause. You even end up leading Recluse around for the final mission!
As long as the future arcs are more like WWD7 and less like 5 and 6, I am happy to continue seeing resources go towards them.
As for "additional content," I have literally reached the point where I want all brand new content to cease, and for the rest of the game to be polished up first. Underplayed zones like Boomtown need to be made viable. Melee power sets like Broad Sword, War Mace, and Battle Axe need unique animations, on par with current power sets (their numbers are more viable, but they are a lot less enjoyable to watch). Ranged power sets receiving some alternate graphics could open up a metric ton of possible character concepts. Etc. -
I don't have an iPhone, but this is very cool! Well done, KK!
-
I guess I can see that for Crippling Axe Kick, since it's alternate animation is a haymaker, and for Eagle's Claw's alternate of the "face smasher" animation. But I don't see that in the rest. Storm Kick's "Gut Punch" and Cobra Strike's "Uppercut" look pretty much like one would think they should. In fact, the Uppercut in Cobra Strike looks almost exactly like Street Justice's Assassin's Strike.
-
Quote:It's funny you mention this, because I was just saying last night how I actually liked the alternate punches for MA because they were not as "smooth and flowing" as the Street Justice animations. All of the MA animations, including most of the punches, give me a sense that the character knows how to apply a focused amount of force into a single strike, much like a martial artist should. Where as Street Justice's attacks give me more of a "practiced brawler" or kick-boxer vibe.I hope at some point they will share some of the StJ animations with MA, if StJ had been purchased that is.
Quote:In City of Heroes, there's no real sense of speed to Super Speed. We simply glide above the ground as though we're on a dolly. There, I could hear the air whooshing by, I formed a shockwave in front of me and my character was SPRINTING! Not jogging like we do in City of Heroes, but outright sprinting, and it looked awesome. -
Quote:I do this too. Or the dictionary. Or the thesaurus...I enjoy creating my characters.. After chosing powers I will create a name and that can actually include going to the web to research...
Quote:The entire Invention Origin System .. Okay aside from characters that are either Tehcnology or Science origin how on eart do we "REALISTICALLY" explain going to the lab and CRAFTING enhancements to our abilities? I suppose yu could add magic origin by saying the crafting was actually creating a spell or potion.. but how does a Natural hero explain it? NOW .. I'm sorry but regradless of origin I have no desire not to IO out my characters so they can be as powerful as possible.. anyone else feel different?
Quote:Inspirations.. Not to be graphic but we carry around a series of small blue, green, yellow, red, ect items that allow us to heal faster, hit harder, or whatever. We even use terms like POP A RED. Almost sounds like we are all running around taking drugs doesn't it? Now I am sure some of the die hard RPers explain it away as them digging deep inside for that extra bit to get through a hard battle and that's fine but the relaity is we run to our contacts and BUY inspiration. Now I don't know about you but I have no desire to stop carrying around my break frees and whatever to stay true to my character's profile. -
Quote:You keep on using that word. I do not think that word means what you think it means.Rick Davies being an old college buddy is plausible and doesn't Mary Sue that much. Being partially responsible for the creation of an enemy group does Mary Sue quite a bit.
Okay, yes, I am always looking for an opportunity to pull out a movie line, even if only partially appropriate
But "Mary Sue" isn't so much a verb as it is a noun. Personally, I don't think the story you laid out about your Praetorian version makes him a Mary Sue at all! He was mind-washed, which means no one, not even himself, knows that he helped create the Praetorian Clockwork. Dozens of other scientists could have been working on the same project, and odds are, Anti-Matter and Neuron had them all mind-washed. Again, no one would know.
A "Mary Sue" always seems just a tad implausible to me. Like if they dominate the spotlight or are too unrealistic or unlikely in other ways. Your character, Claws, as you suggest it does not give me that vibe at all. If he was named something like "Praetor Morris" and his bio boasted about creating the Praetorian Clockwork, or you as a player boasted about it in character (not suggesting that you would), then yeah, I would roll my eyes and write you off as a Mary Sue. But as is? I say make Praetorian Alvin Morris. Sounds like it could be interesting. -

Quote:Well, let's be specific, because difficulty level is malleable, not to mention choice of content will make a difference. If you are playing a Batgirl-grade character and taking on Maria Jenkins arc at +4x6, with archvillains when soloing, then yes you may want IO sets. But I bet the same level of challenge could be achieved by running an all SO build through the arc at +1x1, except that you would stay truer to a concept like that of Batgirl.Nope. While the story might say incarnates are all that, when done with just SO builds, they don't really feel all that incarnate
And I'm not even looking to play what the game calls incarnate level superheroes. I'm happy with Spider-Girl, Batgirl, X-23, Gambit, Spider-Man, Wolverine level of superhero. Without IOs that feeling just isn't there.
At least that's how I would do it.
