Okay your playstyle and commitment to RP are your business and Solo or with a team of friends that know your style and have no problem with is fine. If you are going to TEAM with anyone else you might want to consider their needs and methods. Like others here I have no idea what was said in tell etc, but here are a few things to consider
1. Not every team or player does missons (any mission not just the PocketD one) simply to get a badge orthe end XP bonus. Just yesterday I took a 17 level blaster to level 20 doing thos same missions on an 8 man team. I also came away with a goood deal of salvage and recipes, including several rares, that did NOT drop at mission complete but while fighting the mobs to get to the end. How much XP, INF and potential salvage/recipes/enhancement did you cost 7 other players on that team?
2. Seems like it was the Hero mission you skipped ahead on BUT some people are badgers and the response to your method could easily have been the same if you used that tactic villain side on a team frying to farm for Weedwacker and Colblooded badges. Of course that's not the case here but just an example of another way you MIGHT have ticked people off with your approach.
3. Not every player has unlimited time to just play COX. If you are soloing and just want to run ahead and get a quick Mission Complete skipping all the XP available from taking out mob ..fine. I have no problem on TFs using stealth to cut the times and finish quicker.. I did an All Controller KHTF that completed in 19 minutes. On the other hand a long time ago I decided to just SEE how much XP ect I earned by defeating everything in a mission as opposed to skipping ahead to the end. Soloing I carefully recorded how much I earned getting to MC and the result was better than 100% of what I earned for the end bonus. Using your method you have to do AT least twice as many missions to attain the next level if no more. Sure you are moving faster cause your not stopping to battle every mob but not only are you giving up XP and INF you miss out of enhancement drops, Recipe drops and salvage drops that can either make your character stronger or by selling everything richer. Now if your fine with that its perfectly okay but you joined a team and did you ever stop to consider that MAYBE the other 7 players wanted all those extra perks you bypassed by running off without consulting anyone and finishing the mission?
Roleplay can be fun, I am on Virtue so I see it everywhere, but there is a time and play for it. I don't mind a player on team stayimh in character and and talking the way he or she thinks their character should talk. But I used to team with an old SG member who formed teams and NEVER left his character's persona. He drove people nuts feeling the need to ptoclaim things like "I'll go visit with my contact now and see what other adventures may be instore for us." This was before he moved from the entrance to the mission we just completed. Once he finally made the trip to the contact he felt the need to all but word for word pass along all the "vital" deteails the contact had given HIM before he would ste the mission so we could move on to it and actually PLAY the game. All that RPing added time between every single mission we did and over the course of a night cost us added mission, added XP/INF/SALVAGE/RECIPES/ENHANCEMTS and levels. Players dropped from his teams left and right causing even more delays whilke he searched for replacements. Like I mentioned above... some people only have a few hours a night and even only a few days each week when they can actually PLAY the game and try to work their way to level 50. Roleplay that makes that harder for them, like your method or the team leaders STYLE, cost them precious time and levels. If you join a team the least you could have done is sent a tell to the leader and asked... "I can stealth to the end and finish this quickly if you'd like?" If the answer had been SURE GO AHEAD. You would have been fine. If not as a team member you should have played the way the TEAM wanted to play. Role Playing that you are rude, obnoxious and uncaring is fine but a play style that is rude, obnoxious and uncaring will get you kicked off most treams and mutliple nasty tells almost every time. -
Hi Necris and welcome to Virtue. Role Play? Yes we have roleplay and you will run into people standing around doing it. Pocket D and in front of City Halll are favorite but I occasionally see it near train stations and even base portals. You'll find lots of themed Super Groups that advertise RP frinedly or into Heavy RP, Medium RP etc. (I never was sure what the difference was in those LOL).
That said you will also find it quite easy to find lots of good teams to join and not here a single word of RP uttered the entire time you are running missions. There are a number of globals you can join here that will help you find everything from a team (any level) Task Force, fight Giant Monsters, and do anything associated with badges. Using them you will stay in touch with everything from the Mothership raids inthe RWZ, the Hamidon raids in the Hive, Master of IFT, Kahn TF State's TF etc. Hey name the Task Force and some one is always forming one, or it seems that way at times... Just to give you an example a few weeks back I logged on at 8PM and headed to IP to form a Sister Psyche TF. When I got there one had just formed and headed off to battle Freakshow. Took me all of 15 minutes to build a second 8 man Sister P and after finishing the first mission I returned to IP and found a 3rd one building.
It's a friendly server with a large group of good experienced players mixed with newer ones still learning the game. You may run into a few rude people here and there but that's true of all the severs and of any game. I think you'll enjoy it here and onmce again WELCOME -
Here is what I do Gunn Tharr.. Wait 14 days past the due date they send. Paying on that day ensures the power never shuts off so your members never go to base and discover teleporters, workbenches, etc don't work. Using this method, as mentioned, also extends the deadline before it's due again you end up making about 8 or 9 rent payments a year instead of 26 (once every 2 weeks). Thisd frees up a lot more prestige for plot upgrades, added strorage, etc.
Of course at this point all the SGs I help lead, and serve as base archetect/designer have over a million in prestige and have everything necessary so we figured we have enough to pay rent for about 40 years. LOL -
Quote:Oh Mousedriod I had this same thing happen to me once in Faultline. I was on an 8 man team and exited a mission. I guess everyone else came out normally but I ended up in my own little completely empty zone. I even tried to escape by using the gate and heading to Skyway.. wouldn't let me do that either I had to LOG off and back On.. then get reinvited to the team before I could continue.Mine are both due to known glitches in the game.
The first happened about 3 months into playing the game. I was in Steel Canyon on my scrapper and I forget what I was doing but I left either a store or the university and ran to my current mission door. When I got there the mission door wouldn't open. That wasn't my WTF Moment though. I wasn't sure what to do and didn't yet know how to contact support for help, so I decided to try to find another player to ask them. That's when I noticed there were no other players on the streets of Steel Canyon. Not only that, there were no mobs either. And no civilians, and no cars, and even Posi and Valkyrie had gone missing. It was a total 28 Days Later WTF moment to be in a completely empty city. I basked in the weirdness of it for a little while and then logged out. When I logged back in everything was fine -
Thanks all.. THAT explains that. And it reminded me of another WTF moment that may very well have been caused by the same thing.
I did a radio mission on Talos where I was supposed to free the kidnap victim. I walked in and the entire 3 story map was filled with nothing but citizens with "Kidnap victim" or something like that listed as their Villain Group. Of course I wasn't able to attack a single one of them. I figured it was a bug but headed up and found my REAL Kidnap victim. The problem was he was surrounded by this undefeatable, I can't attack you, group of VILLAINS??? LOL I sent a petition and the GM that arrived, who I am pretty sure thought I as nuts until he came inside and saw for himself, ended up auto-completing it so I could move on.
I think that qualifies as a WTF???? a mission full of victims that have kidnapped one of their own LOL -
Yawns and stretches as I wander downstairs and head toward the smell of fresh coffee. Picking up Neko and scritching her ears playfully while I pour a BIG cup.
"Oh for heaven sake Pogo are you in trouble again?" searches through my back pack, by the door, and hands you a small tactical nuke from Warburg.
"Will this help? I don't like this thing anyway. It scares me. Oh if anyone needs to shower wait a little while my Phantasm, and Boytoy/poolboy, Pablo finishes. He is using it right now. Why a PHANTASM with no real body needs a shower I will never know. Said something about feeling dirty after last night."
Takes a sip of coffee and notices people staring at her.
"WHAT? I made him plant flowers around the house. Gee let's get our minds out of the gutter people." Giggles "He did look sort of cute doing it wearing a bra and panties!"
GOOD MORNING ALL... Kisses -
Quote:Noobs? No don't confine that to new players I have been on teams with a leader sporting 50 months plus Vet badges that are still wandering around with the attitude I MUST have a Tank to control aggro, I must have a healer to keep us alive, and I must fill the team with Scrappers and Blasters for maximum damage. I just ran a very successful Numina TF on Friday with Myself as leader on a Warshade along with a bunch of Defenders and Controller and one lone Scrapper. Granted Numina when organized well is not a yough TFto do but the oonly time I ever needed to switch my WS from Human to Dark Dwarf form was as we took out Jurrasic in the final mission. WAY too many VETS out there running teams that never quite got over that old school mentalitt there is one lone team build for success. I agree with Tonality... this argument has been going back and forth as long as the game and the forums have existed. If it can't move, can't hit me on aregular basis, is taking damage at an excellerated rate and what damge it does d is being healed faster than the baddies can dish it out...we win. Best teams I have been on were full of Trollers and Defenders without a Scrapper or Tank in sight. I did an all Controller KHTF that finished in 19 minutes. Took down Adamastor with a 4 man team.. 2 Controller, 1 Defender (Rad?Rad) and my Warshade in Dark Nova mode.Sounds like you are getting into groups with a bunch of noobs inviting you. Healing is always nice. But really, empathy is my least favorite defender set of the bunch. The buffs are nice but recharge way to slow and the only reason they need to be able to heal like they do is because they have no other way to keep a team alive. The other sets can, through either, faster buffs, debuffs or soft controls keep most of the damage from being dealt in the first place.
Find smart players that know that a defender's job isn't supposed to be a heal-bot and put them on your friend list. Also, finding an active SG with enough experienced players that know what a defender is really for would be a good idea.
If you keep running into that mentality (to the OP) do as was suggested.. From your own team and build it the way you want! -
Hello this is the Ghost of Walt Disney introducing the one COH zone to please you all..... Disney goes Insane! We promise the Pirates of the Carribean will battle hord of disgusting smelly Viking (apologzes to our Nordic friends). Ninjas will battle Dinosaurs straight out of Jurrasic park all while attending High School on the new Moon Base! Heheh did I leave anyone out?
Future updates will include a band of evil Muppets bent on the detruction of earth. No I dont mean a villain group I mean the actual band from the Muppet Show with Animal on drums.
I think any of those ideas would be interesting. I myself have always been fascinated with the Japanese culture and would love to see an oriental zone with Ninjas, Samarai, and Warrior Monks.. along with that new GM mentioned.. a giant Dragon! Hey instead of 5th Column it could even have Tsoo involved in the Task Force attempting to summon the anceint spirit of some power Mage Warrior to help control all of Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. -
Quote:Yeah that was sort of my point... I guess this So Called Tank had seen other tankers in action and assumed he was supposed to run ahead and drive multiple mobs nuts. The problem was he wasn't doing anything, including attacking them, to maintain it. He'd turn and rush back at a team full of Blasters, Troller and Defenders (al squishies of a sort) and when the huge mob following him hit us they broke off and started attacking us.. resulting in mutliple dead team mates. Oddly enough one of the few that did survive hese disasters was our concept tank because he just kept running away until he was so far back everything lost interest in him since we were all there to pound on. I'm not sure what his so called "concept" was but it bore a striking resemblance to Shaggy and Scooby Do... Just let the bad guys chase me as I run away in total fear and someone will eventually save me! LOLNot necessarily. Not everyone understands how to punch-voke. Those type of players do need taunt if they are looking to assume the tank role. I'm perfectly capable of holding aggro on my brutes and keeping even the squishiest lowbies alive in incredibly chaotic environments. However, this is where player skill and an understanding of game mechanics kicks in.
While I probably won't kick a player for not taking taunt, I would kick a player if their playstyle is clearly interfering with the survivability of the team. As for looking at powers, I rarely click player info. If I do, it means you've done to get noticed and I'm curious as to the depths of your stupidity.
While I agree with you in principle, Ironblade, I have seen far too many players that would benefit from taunt because they have not grasped the concept of punch-voke.
As for the Kin with no SB his comments just seemed sort of rude and he even added to them making it very clear he didnt care if any of us lived or died on the mission as long as he didn't die and got tons of XP. I wan't alone in that opinion as he was the topic of discussion after the leader kicked him and spent a few minutes looking for a replacement. Hey you want to build a solo only build fine.. go solo but don't advertise LFT and then get rude and nasty when someone asks .. "Why don't you have any powers that will help protect me?" Remember that the one person, in most cases, a buffer can't buff during a mission is him or herself. I had a player once scream at me inteam chat because he asked for CM and I didn't get it to him causing him to die. Well I'm sorry I ended up stunned and held on that same attack that you cause rushing ahead into the mob and by the time I woke up you were face down. At that point it seemed like a better idea to heal and buff the others so we didn't team wipe instead of running up and dying trying to rez you. Tha little story sort of demonstrates the need to HELP each other ...which is what a team is supposed to do. I buff you, you buff me, player 3 debuffs everything in front of us and HEY we win! Kin does have other benefits than SB and if the answer had been I skipped those to add more damage/whatever everyone would have been fine but .. "I could care less if you live or die I want XP" Umm "All those in favor of kicking the rude little troll raise your hand" *7 hands shoot up and the front door of the mission opens as a Kin is tossed back out* -
Oh I've had a few.
STRANGE BUILD... Standing in Talos one day I heard a Defender advertsing, spamming himself actually, as the ulimate H3ALOR. Turned out our boy was on the train platform directly across from me so I HAD to see what made him the "Ultimate healer" Okay only attack power he had was the first one he HAD to take at level one and I will assume he wasted no enhancement slots on it. A little strange but I've seen that before. Of course he had every available power he could from Empathy and added the Medicine pool to the mix. Now this is where it got WIERD and I found myself WTFing? He had Hover and Flight, Recall Friend and Teleport, Hasten and Super Speed. Okay I could see Recall freind in THAT build .. TP the fallen to safety and rez. I could see Hasten so his "Heals" came back faster. I even know people with TP as their travel mode of choice taking hover so they don't fall if they take too long between teleport clicks.. but why anyone LOL needed 3 permanent travel powers was beyond me. Seemed like he could have picked one actual Travel power, and used at least 2 power slot on something else to add to his TOTAL SUPPORT ROLE. I guess he wanted to be able to get there no matter what.
STRANGE VILLAINS... On COV I hooked up with a team in my early 20s and we did a door mission. Stepped inside and found ourselves staring and 40+ Villains. Okay mission is bugged it happens but these were like nothing I had ever seem before, or ever again, anywhere in the game. Actually hard to even describe they were sort of a cross between a Dark Nova from the Warshade powerset and a Coralax but with really long tentacles and they were just floating there inside the room. As we turned to leave someone must have gotten too close and aggroed and the whole team got one shotted by a strange electrical attack like lightning that was tinted blue.. just like the creatures themselves. not sure if it was some experimental villain the Devs were trying out that managed to escape via bug into our mission or just a horrible bugged mutations of several established beings but they definately qualified for a WFT? Team leader sent a bug report and we moved on so I have no idea what the explanation was but it was a very unual day in Sharkhead.
STRANGE NPC REPLY... We all are used to the standards you locate the named Lieutenant or Boss in the mission and the call out your name or whoever's name the mission belongs to on a team and then hurl some insult or threat. I soloed one day on a Scrapper and got to that room and instead of the usual insult/threat I got "Oh ______ Can we talk about this for a minute? Let's work something out?" Okay not a direct quote it's been a while but unlike any other Boss I ever faced this guy seemed terrified and wanted to negotiate a peaceful solution? hehehehe After I got done laughing I cleared the room but it makes my WTF list just because it was so funny I had to stop laughing before I could keep playing
STRANGE TATICS OR ATTACK THAT WORKED... Oh gee I have had so many of those "Okay how did he do that and why are we all still alive" Moments I have no way to narrow it to one. So I'll end here and let someone else continue the fun. This is a cool thread :-D -
Quote:I guess I should have responded to this issue but I didn't think it would have been a concern here because it wasn't the topic of the thread.
All of my "gimped" buff characters are dedicated soloists, and I don't make any secret that I can't help with buffs. For example . . .
My Kin, Bubbler, & Sonic all have similar comments.
Despite my warnings in search and when I flat out tell them I can't heal, bubble, buff there are people that still choose to ignore me and beg me to join their teams.
At that point after making sure they were warned I'll relent and accept their team invite knowing full well what's coming. Soon the heal me's, buff me's, start coming in and I just laugh because they ain't getting what I ain't got.
Does this make me a jerk? Probably, but I don't care. I hate build nazi's and people that refuse to take no for an answer. They came to me and they ignored what I told them. Maybe next time they'll pay attention.
Some have even threatened to petition me for not taking those powers. I wish them the best of luck with that because my chat logs show I told them I didn't have those powers.
OHhh Forbid hehehehe Send a tell back when they do that and ask if they enjoy grade school. No one can petition you because they don't like your build I love that one! Hey do what I do... I'm just flat out honest with them. "No thanks I am waiting on several friends I plan to team with." "No sorry I only have about 20 minutes left before I log and this solo mission I am on will take at least 10 of that." Etc Etc. I have had people send another tell back thanking me for at least responding.. there does seem to be a trend these days to just ignore everything around you in game. I Loved the PIC by the way.. I actually had no guy send a tell asking me to join his team. When I told him I was not interested that I was in my SG designing and building a new room he came back YELLING at me because my search message said I was LFT. I tired explaining that YES it did but if the little RED circle is on it means I am NOT interested. He wanted me, insisted I HAD to, change my message everytime I was or wasn't Looking for a team.. Yeah which would make me the ONLY one out of hundreds on line daily doing that. People don't take the time to READ anything in game it seems.
Like I told you in the PMs we exchanged it's your build and if you plan to do nothing but solo Build it anyway you like.... (Whispers.. Still think you should consider the Regen and Recovery auras they will help you even soloing and they do autohit BUT do what you like).
Oh Memphis Bill had a good suggestion too DUAL BUILDS I have those on a number of characters but that can get expensive depending on how much Influence you have and REALLY expensive if you are trying to IO both. If you can.. at least when someone INSIST that you "must" join my team you can switch to a build they will be happy with.. Or ignore them completely hey I had one team leader kick a Defender when he discovered he had Trick Arrow... "U Rn't a H3ALOR!" No he wasn't you goof ball but he did have some darn good holds, etc and I am an ILL/EMP you already HAS A H3ALOR.. well he had one anyway I quit the team over that before a single mission ran. LOL Ten minutes later I was on another WITH the same TA Defender and along with the Rad/Rad Defender and other umimportant types that do damage (kidding folks I play Tanks, Scappers and Blasters too) we tore through missions.. probably while Mr. I NEDZ A H3ALOR" was still trying to build his idea of a perfect team. Thanks so much for the very nice PM and enjoy the game :-D -
quote from Sno Globe
I think I got the context quite well. Wendy seems intent on telling Forbin what exactly is wrong with his build and then proceeds to berate him for it. She goes further and tells him to delete the character "so he can create a better one." Better for who? Well it would be better for her play style, but maybe not for his. I know I've built my empath without some of the powers she has insisted are "needed" and it has done very well over the years (both solo and on teams).
Like I said, I don't need anyone to tell me how to build my characters. Because I don't build generic characters, I know that my play style will not mesh with hers. So I want to be proactive by not teaming with her in the first place.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No I think you don't. My point was Forbin said he was putting together a build with EMP and planning to only take Healing Aura. There have been multiple threads on these forums an player's guides, Planners, etc showing that of all the powers Empathy has that is the least effective especially at higher levels. Heal Other does more tham twice the amount of actual healing and I have used it numerous times to keep a Stone Tanker alive and battling against an AV. Recovery and Regen Auras not only help the team they also help the player himself .. something almost no other buffing set does. MY POINT was why take EMP at all if you aren't planning to use it? Hey he has some PvP build in mind where he never plans to use that character for anything else FINE. He should still take the Regen and Recovery Auras to aid himself in healing and recovering end faster. Whatever else he want's to do is his business but there have also been threads here claiing that Empathy sucks mainly because there are way too many players out there with it that don't have a clue what they are doing.
And no this doesn't just apply to EMP. You like custome builds fine... Do you ever lead teams? I am sure you do. Okay you invite a tank and after about the third mob, with the team taking huge amounts of damage, you check the tankers build and discover, in the learly 40 levels, he doesn't have Taunt. In fact his so called strategy seems to be run it, stir everythuing up, and then run away bringing the entire mob rushing toward the team reay to destroy anything that moves. When you ask the tank why he doesn't have Tant his reply is " Oh this is a concept build and Taunt just doesn't fut my idea for my character." ... I was on that team against Malta and the team leaders reply was .. "Yeah well a Tank that can't tank isn't part on MY concept either." and then he kicked the guy. I teamed with a KIN that the Stone Tank leaing invited and we soon discovered had no SB or Increased Density. His reason "Well they don't help me when I solo soI just didn't bother with them." Once again Poof the player was gone. You want to call that COOKIE CUTTER Fine but if a player is going to run around advertising in broadcast "LFT" and I am a KIN! There are certain things teams assume you will bring to that team to HELP. If you don't have them . in most cases you are viewed as being there just to spam XP and will, over and over, find yourself back on the street LFTing. People love Rad/Rad when fighting a Giant Monster or takng on a tough AV for the debuff it brings.. don't bother to take them and you just disappointed 7 other players and made their job a whole lot tougher.
Oh and since it seems you play on Triumph and I play on Virtue RELAX I think we can safely assume we will never see one another in game. Frankly if you showed up with some strange build that was minus the powers that can actually help a team the friends I play with with kick you so fast you'd been outside wondering what new weapon the villains had that could do it. I solo and team and thanks to dul builds and plenty of influence I actually have build set up for each including ones with Empathy. If I am soloing why waste a power selection on Heal Other, Resurrect, CM. or Fortitude? I can't use them on myself so I take powers that can. When I put together a TEAM build I not only take those I enhance them to maximize their strength and make them recharge faster. I have NO idea what you do and fortunately sounds like I never have to find out.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I have told countless players there is no ONE way to play this game and be succesful. If it works for you and it isn't hurting anyone else then it's a perfectly acceptable way to play the game. You like custome builds and somehow make that work for you fine. I like to team and gear my builds, including attack, to providing as much help to the teams I join as possible. I have had Team leaders send me tells at the end of a mission or a Task Force thanking me for the good job I did. That was on a Pick up Group not my usual group of friends I play with when they are available. I have seen multiple posts here where you have spent a considerable amount of time quoting anyone who has an opinion you disagree with so you can comment on how wrong they are and, in your opinion only, why you are right. Sort of seems to me like you have the attitude that YOUR way is the only one that can possibly be right and we all must be insane for not seeing that.
This thread is about Drive by Buffing. If anyone bothered to read my first two posts I agree completely that buffing me, or anyone else, while I am in Wentworths, at the Trainer, or in a Store is completely useless and some what annoying. Teleporting some hapless player to the top of a building and dropping them or TPing them into a huge mob they stand no chance of defeating is grieving. Me seeing a player that's practically dead and facing a mob about to send him or her to the hospital .. and dropping down to heal them, buff them so they recovery end and health, faster, CM (if needed against that mob) and Fort to bost their ability to survive and earn XP instead of heading to the hospital is not. There is not a GM in this game that will ever disagree with that statement. I am not hurting anyone I am helping them. The argument that Patrol XP makes healing unnecessary is flawed at best... The less Patrol XP I have to use to remove debt the more I have available to earn XP at 150% instead of 100% so if I keep you out of the hospital and on the street I am helping you level faster. I will continue to do exactly what I have been doing for almost 50 months in game and since it bothers you so much .. I have 40 characters on Virtue, over the 2 accounts I pay for, so you stay on Triumph and I will stay right here with my friends and you can die and work on debt till your hearts content. And before you even start to post it NO I am NOT telling you that you are not allowed on Virtue so don't even bother pulling that one little statement out and turning it around so you can claim I am telling you what to do. -
Shuffles down from upstairs and frows at the empty coffee pot. Quickly making up a big pot full and picking up Neko and I plop on the couch to wait for it to brew. I give the kitty ear scritiches and yawn.
"Did anyone realize there are a group of guys up stairs in armor all waiting to use the bathroom? Kept claiming to be The Knights who say Ni and mumbling something about a shubbery????? Looks around the room ... "Anyone hungry? I can make breakfast." Dials phone and orders 10 large pizza .. 2 with pepperoni, 2 with extra cheese, 2 with sausage, 2 with mushrooms and 2 with everything. "WHAT! I never said I was going to cook breakfast!" -
Quote:That portion of that post Forbin is what we commonly refer to a S A R C A S M. Its a thing people do when they find something someone else has said on done so silly or stupid they come up with a totally rediculous statement that sort of sounds like they agree with that person but in reality they are making a joke. Oh by the way if you really are looking for that sign there is a tiny hidden tailor shop on PI that very few people know about that offers up a mission that will give you one.... and oh by the way that too is sarcasm.First off Wendy, Please please please understand that this is not directed at you personally. You just happen to be the latest person to say something along these lines and I'd like to address it.
In order to assist those people that don't want any "help" from drive-by buffs, please explain step by step how they can get this sign everyone keeps telling them to get.
Can they get it at the tailor? If so explain exactly where in the costume creator it can be found.
Is it a title? If so what level do you have to be to unlock it? Or do you get it from a contact? Who is this contact and where can it be found?
Do you get this sign from a badge? Is it part of an accolade that has to be unlocked?
Well? . . .
Still waiting . . .
The point being there is NO such sign and if I am out flying around and see your character with youre health bar in the red and facing 3 or 4 villains all still in relatively good shape .. I have NO way of knowing you are one of those few people that would rather die, go to the hospital, and LEARN A VALUABLE LESSON FROM THE EXPERIENCE. I've mentioned it several times now I have been HELPING people in game with buffs almost as long as I have played (4 years plus). I buff when I see someone in trouble that looks like they need help and unlike the nuts(?) that want to show off their new shiny buff and use it in Wentworths, at the Trainer, the Store, or Pocket D I only buff people I see on the street actually fighting villain groups. Unlike some I even take the time to see if they really need it.. why waste MY time if you are fine?
I check YOU first... How much life do you have left? How many villains are you battling? at times even what AT are you battling with? (A 30 level Blaster in Brickstown fighting eight 32 level Cery to try and get that new costume slot may need my help... a 30 level TANK fighting three of then? I doubt needs anything but more Crey)
I check WHAT you are fight.... what level are they? (Hey I see 40 levels pounding on 15 level Tsoo in Steel Canyon I seriously doubt they need me to stop what I m doing to buff them no matter how many bad guys there are) How much life do they have left and how many are left? (you are practically DEAD and there are three minion all still at full health and +1 or whatever higher than you pounding on you.. sounds like you are about to die to me).
If all that adds up to.. that guy looks like he needs a hand I drop in and give one. If a 50 level is in Skyway taking out 16 level Clockwork Bosses cause he wants his gearsmasher badge and doesn't feel like commiting to a Posi or Synapse to earn them... I have better things to do than swope down and buff him. On top of that if I did and then 30 seconds later spotted some poor 15 level half dead and facing 17 level Lost that not only are kicking his butt good but the Lost Boss has him asleep so he can't even fight.. I'd feel pretty bad if I couldn't buff him because I used them all up on that 50 and they are still recharging.
I am not your typical brain dead "Look I have a new power" Drive By Buffer .. I am a player that just happens to enjoy helping other players when it LOOKS like they need help. My point is some of the poster here seem to thing that NC Soft should devote Dev time, resources and whatever else to develop some ANTI-BUFF serum button they can push because they are annoyed. Sounds like in most cases it's occurring in places where with or without the buff its not affecting their ability to fight, live or die because they are not in a combat situation. A few other hard headed "Leave me alone I want to do it myself" types want something similar because "You buffed me now how am I ever supposed to learn what my powers can do?" Ummmmm how about finding another mob after I leave and starting over? Last I checked at no level in this game did you dramatically jump in ability after defeating 3 minions even if they happened to be enough to give you the XP to get to your next level. You get a new power at let's say level 12 and it has one whole enhancement slot you can put a 15 level IO or DO damage enhancer in to make it a little better. At the next level let's say it was an attack so you get 2 more slots and add a second damage enhancer and an accuracy enhancer. Now your power is starting to show you what it can become. Me buffing you while you fight ONE mob is not crushing your learning experience because you probably still have no real knowledge of what that power can do even at level 13. Hey I don't know how you enhance but on my scrappers, tankers and blasters at some point most if not all of my attack powers will wind up with three damage enhancers, one or two accuracy enhancers (depending on how accurate the power is to begin with) and if I have the slots a recharge enhancer or a range enhancer depending on which I need or want most. You are not getting that many slots on that power you took at level 12 even when you hit 13 so in reality you still don'y know exactly how well it can work.. have a really good idea based on what it can do then but you are still learning.
Okay so maybe I am not a typical Brive by buffer frankly my opinion is too many of you let way to many little things annoy you and ruin your game time. If any of you actually read all of my POSTs here you'll see that I agree the idiots buffing in WW and such are an annoyance. But enough to make me think we need todevote time, energy and resources to find a way players can stop the MADNESS? no! Unless you are ready to walk out the door of Wentworths how long are you going to be there? Your trying to sell salvage, IO enhancements, or recipes and get the best price... your trying to buy the same things and looking to get the lowest price. By the time you are done with all that how long is before that SB the jerk that walked by hit you with actually wears off? So becaue someone annoyed you for a minute maybe two you all want a BUTTON you can hit to prevent anyone from ever buffing you again. While we are at it can we get them to make one that turns off everyone's defense auras in Wentworth too? Hey it adds to the lag there and they aren't fighting anything why do they need those things on? BY THE WAY JUST TO CLARIFY THAT LAST STATEMENT WAS ALSO S A R C A S M!
If you are so dead set on the I can do it alone attitude do what some of the other posters here suggest. Stop fighting in the streets and get a door mission from your Police Scanner or one of your contacts and run it solo. You want to see how well your build does against higher level villains well guess what you can up the Difficult of that mission and face nothing but +4 level with bosses. If it turns out you SUCK on the way back from the hospital see the Field Rep. lower the difficult and reset the mission. Seem like a much more effective way to learn the way your powers work than running around looking for mobs in the street. Just keep doing that all the way to level 50 and you can stand proudly in front of Castle and yell in all cap in broadcast "I DID IT ALL MYSELF WITH NO HELP FROM ANYONE!" Oh at that point I suggest you retire you proud 50 and start all over since any ITF, LGTF, STF or any other team you may try to join is going to quickly realize you have no idea how to be a team player and kick you repeated. -
In my own case I don't see me ever replacing a permanent travel power wit NR but I do have a 15 level KIN that picked her's up with 1:52 minutes left on her Raptor Pack. It didn't take long after I creater her to realize that unless I needed to get someplace that was too high to jump and too far to run to the only set of stairs I quickly discovered that Ninja run was faster than the Raptor Pack. I will always still feel more comfortable having that travel power for times when NR just seems less practical to use.. Trying to get up and down high cliffs in Faultline, Any mission in IP (that's an awful lot of water to run through as opppsed to flying or TPing over), Missions taking to certain parts of TV or Crey's Folly.
It's a great bonus power and I love goofing around and jumping from building top to building top to see just how far I can get without touching ground. I'm sure some players will use it and not take any other travel power but the majority? I sort of doubt it. -
Another thing to keep in mind is that as the game stands today NS Soft has prodived some ways to make the game more of a challenge and at least make the repetitve nature more enjoyable. I can go and up my difficulty and face villains as high as +4 with at least one boss in ever mission. Creative players come up with their own ways to find differnt things to do as well.. for proof check the forums for the players attacking Rikti pylons solo in the RWZ, or spending MILLIONS to IO their character so they can tackles a giant monster solo. Hey I even tried a challege where you went to the RWZ and found a trio of 54 level Rikti bosses and tried to beat them solo... Okay so my Regen Scrapper isn't quite as tough as I thought she was I put up a good fight and enjoy it. I think the original idea with the Mission Archetect was along these same lines.. Tired of fighting Council, Crey and Nemesis troops all day? Head to the AE building and take on a host of custom designed villains your fellow players have created. The trend toward farming which eventually led to a huge nerf in that area put a damper on this but I played some pretty good, and pretty funny, missions that you would never see anywhere else in this game or any other. Those do still exist just don't expect to level from 2-50 in a few hours.
They have always had minor diversions, like the Paladan Construction site I mentioned in my previous post here, and those offer a change from the norm as well. Fact is there are countless players that ingore them completely unless they are the serious badger types. The Ghost ship in Talos and / or IP, fighting the arson fire and Hellion Arsonists in Steel, tackling the Troll Ravesin Skyway, or capturing ghosts in Port Oakes.
Hey even Wentworths and the IO crating sysytem offer ways to occupy time in game that has next to nothing to do with running from door to door aside from using those missions to obtain some of the recipes and salvage you may crave. Some players spend as much time and energy playing the market and crafting as they do playing the game itself. Last I checked Wentworths didn't even have a door to click on. Rikti raids provide a diversion rom the norm along with a decent accolade power. And once again the players found a way to make that more challenging and interetsing by attacking Drop Ships. Banner raids now offer another diversion along with temp powers and the Zombie raids open another costume piece. The tailor shop and power customizations can also be viewed as ways to break the grind for a bit. Okay how many players out there did not rush of to change the colors on their powers when it became available? Those of you that do not have a hand up, and why do you have one up answering a rhetorical question on the forums?, while you were busy changing color on X number of characters powers.. How many door mission did you run? When you acquire the needed Halloween salvage did you rush to Croatoa to give it to Annah and then to the Icon to add another outfit to your character? Diversion!
Yeah even with the vast number of different villain groups to battle the missions and the maps all tende to blend after a while. I recently got a friend hooked on COH and we team together as a duo. He often comment.. boy you always seem to know where to find the bad guys. LOL Yeah after four years of playing on the same maps over and over I can pretty much tell.. Okay around the next corner there should be another mob. But I do TFs, I do Trials, I will leap at the chance to battle a GM, my first 50 is a Taxibot and from helping other players earn one or even two of them.. she has all three of the firefigher badges you can earn in Steel, has stopped a Troll Rave, been on a Hami and Mothership raid or two, defeated ghosts that drop from the Ghost ship in IP, is the base archetect/designer for her SG, and finds a host of other ways to keep the game fun -
Looks around for signs of Detra and shrugs. "Must have fallen asleep in Pocket D" Picking up Fedor I give him big squishy booby hugs. "Okay they aren't big and they are not that squishy. They are booby hugs so relax and enjoy them." hehehe
Okay not to SPAM (OH TOO LATE) but you are the craziest and friendliest people I have ever met in game and I have teamed with some of you and also know you are good players. Well the Taxibots have started a new service of sorts. Let's face it with Radio missions and Raptor Packs there is not much call for teleport in the Hollows or anywhere else these days. So if you are interested in what we are up to now check out this link.

Racing out to recover the misplaced nabs the good Doctor runs headlong into Superman. Moments later as his senses return to normal he find the Kryptonian and Bugs cally dicussing the quickest route to Palm Springs. Poor Elmer is sitting, dejected, on the curb staring at the barrels of his favorite shotgun now twisted into a pretty bow. Batman pulls up, splashing water from a puddle on the depressed Wabbit hunter in the new batmobile (A tricked out Hummer) and begins to taunt SUperman. "Hey BOY SCOUT! This is the kind of thing you can afford when your movie do well at the box office!" All the while thinking "Thank heavens for Christian Bale, George Clooney sure didn't help my image any." -
Stumbles through the front door looking dazed and confused. "Coffee! Bagel! FEDOR!" Picks up her cute little sackman friend and hugs him to her chest. "I'm sorry I was gone so long. I was in a far off land with tiny little people, a wizard and an evil witch! And you were there and you and you too!" (Apologizes to Judy Garland and the Wizard of OZ lol). Hey all Real life, a second on line game of sorts, and a semi steady boy friend have limited my time on the forums and usually by the time I do get here, if at all, its late night and I have to search forever to even find the place. I was home and awake today and OOOOOH the Rookery! So I stopped by for a visit.
Plops on the couch munching a bagel and sipping her coffee with 2 sugar and French Vanilla creamer and cuddles with Fedor. I pull off my shoes and wonder "When did I go shopping and buy these horrid looking red slippers?" :-D
To the surpise of all on board when the cannons fired huge yellow flags appeared with the word BOOM on each. A chuckle from shore drew their attention to a Wascally Wabbit munching a carrot and standing next to a large pile of cannon balls. He turned , waving farewell, and pulled a map from some hidden pocket in his fur. " I bet I took a wrong turn in Albuquerque!" Was the last thing they heard as he slowly wandered off. -
Okay I have got to stop reading through these posts or I will never stop responding. Snow Globe you want the Devs to take the time to create an ANTI-BUFF button you can use because your PC is at the minimum and certain buffs cause YOU to crash? With all the other issues they are working to maintain and fix how many people ut of close to over over 100,000 subscribers does this actually help?
Second what servers are some of you people playing on? And just exactly how often is this horrible Drive-by Buffing occurring? I play on Virtue and most people know it has the second highest number of players in game. Do I occasionally get buffed at WW or the trainer? YES But I am talking once is a while not 10 times in 2 or 3 hours of game play. Are you REALLY having this happen so frequently that it has ruined the entire game experience for you? or just looking for something, no so, new to complain about.
Third ... this is a game designed to be played on teams. Okay I have plenty of characters that can and do solo but I love teaming. It's more fun to have team mates to interact with, leveling is faster, and attacking a huge mob with 6-7 players is a lot more exciting than attacking a trio of minions or a minion and a lieutenant. So how is hitting you with the same buff a controller or defender would give you if you were on an instance mission on a team depriving you of learning the game if you happen to be soloing on the street? Buffs are a huge part of the game including SB.. ask any STone Tank how they feel about having a Kin on their team. If he or she is the team leader chances are they are searching for one.
Fourth .. Forbin thank you so much for adding fuel to the recent flame fire over Empathy. WHYwould you even bother to take the power set and not take all the good things it offers? Unlike so many other buffing sets one huge advantage of Empathy is there are at least 3 power that actually affect and help you solo or on a team. SO unless you don't feel the need to be able to recover End and heal faster alonng with being able to heal yourself at least takie all three of your auras. Oh and please don't team with that character EVER. When I join a team with an EMP/ Defender or a /EMP Controller, especially if I am specifically asked to join for my buffs, I use CM and Fort s fast as they recharge and have them slotted to do so quickly. Builds like the one you are describing are the reason EMP is considered the "HEALOR" powerset and so many bad ones exist these days it gives those of us that know how to use our powers a bad name. At high levels unless you are facing a heavy hitting AV healing is not what we do best. Hitting the team with CM so they don't spent half their time held, immobbed, asleep, or disoriented an FORT to buff their defense and ability to hit are. I also play Thermals and while the buffs are great not one of them affects me so solo my whole power set is pretty much useless aside from heal and on a team I am the only one I can't buff so if I am held or asleep or stunned no one is getting buffed. I don't know WHAT planner you are looking at but delete it and use what the powerset gives you to HELP your team.
Again what server are you people on? I don't know a single player that has ever created a BUFFING or any other type of character for the sole purpose of grieving other players. In 4 years I don't remember arriving once in Atlas Park at level 2 and hearing so 50 level Troller in broadcast shouting "Hey Noob watch out I have buffs and I'm coming to get you!" Recall Freind? Yeah I have seen a few that think its real cute to TP players to the top of some tall building and watch them plummet but BUFFS? Aside from the occasional SB in a cave where I gently tapped forward and found myself 100 yard from where I was and in the center of a huge mob becasue a BAD Kin had the attitude that if a little SB is a good thing a LOT must be better.. I can't think of a single time a BUFF got me killed. "I was gettng ready to snap a picture of myself and someone with a horrible color combo on their aura buffed me?" Well if your standing around taking pictures you aren't running a timed mission for sure so what is the huge deal with waiting 3-4 minutes before saying cheese?
As I said in my other post I healed and buffed in the Hollows for long time before a field hospital and raptor packs existed and kept a lot of heroes alive and helped them level. Not one ever complained I was depriving them of learning the game when I kept them from having to run, since they had no travel power or raptor pack, all the way back from the Hospital in Atlas to continue their mission. No one ever said I was depriving them of learning to navigate throw huge mobs that may have been 5, 6 or more levels higher than them to get to a mission by using Recall friend. This whole thread seems to revolve around a few instnaces people have had where someone Buffed them in a spot where it seemed silly. In Pocket D? okay DUH unles it's during the winter event or Valentine'd Day and there are missions running there pretty stupid. Then again if all you are doing is standing around RPing.. what difference does it make?
I have seen, and reported, players repeatedly using derogatory racial slurs in broadcast.. that is grieving. I've had players wait until I had a villain down to almost no health and run in and take the final shot that defeated him.. That is Kill stealing and is definately grieving. I have also had players show up out of no where while I was street hunting in Atlas and heal/buff me while I took on a +2 or +3 mob I accidentally attacked and keep me alive.. That's not Grieving That's being a nice guy.
Memphis Bill as usual on any thread I have found your posts on over the years I agree with your commom sense and game knowledge 100%. -
Oh I'd like to add something I neglected in my original post here. If you take a look at my signature you'll notice Taxibot Sara2.0 listed as one of my 50 levels. I have no idea how long the OP or anyone else opposed to help .. and I cant believe someone considers me buffing and healing them while they solo a huge mob as grieving... have been in game. But the Taxibots made a huge difference back in the days before radio missions and Raptor Packs existed. On every server we had a garage dedicated to "Helping Heroes get there faster" Our members took time away from leveling themselves to stand at the Atlas Park gate in the Hollows and teleport individuals and even whole teams to and from missions. Along with the Paragon Search and Rescue Team we healed and buffed countless players trying to do Dave Wincott's missions and take down 10 Outcast or 10 Trolls back when those mobs were huge. It was also before Patrol XP so if you were running missions there above level 10 debt meant something. And before a field hospital was in place so IF you died trying to get to that mission half way across the zone you rezzed in Atlas Park or Skyway depending on while gate you entered through. I don't recall a single player saying "Hey I don't need you to Rez me or teleport me I am soloing and you are interferring with my enjoyment of the game." Taxibots never openly asked for a thing in return for this and if anyone asked us how much do I owe you the answer was always "Not a thing.. have fun!". Now we did accept tips if someone wanted to give it but that was never the reason behind the Super Group .. I still I recall one day in the Hollows when a 50 level walked up an gave me a million in INF (this was back before Wentworths and the IO system so that was a huge amount) and I hadn't done a thing for him. I thanked him and asked why he was tipping me... His replay was "You guys saved my butt countless times when I was here as a 5 or 6 level.. just my way of saying thanks now since I couldn't afford to then."
To this day on ANY character I play, and I am still with the Taxibots, if I see someone with a sliver of life left desperately trying to battle a mob that I know will eventually send them to hospital I am headed in and will buff, debuff (as long as it doesn't steal kills), and heal to help that player survive and continue of their way. If you think that makes me a griever then go ahead and report me to NC Soft. I'm sure someone in charge of those reports will get a good laugh out of it before they delete the complaint with no action taken. Hey I met a 50 level that used to hang out at the tailor shop in IP to protect players that showed up there to make a new costume because there was almost always a mob of Family standing right there on the corner waiting to ambush player that got too close and aggroed. He was a Tanker and with 3 or 4 quick hits no more mob. Now was that grieving? Or helping some poor 20 level witha fresh outfit earned from Halloween Salvage get inside without potentially ending up in the hospital and in debt instead of creating a new outfit? Well in MY opinion it was helping... If you are on the way to the tailor you are not on an active mission, not street hunting, or doing anything else to earn XP and INF.. you are heading in to make yourself look better. If a 20 level Defender doesn't have to try to battle a Family Underboss to do that I'd call it HELP.
You don't want help then do like so many others and just head to the AE building at level 2 and stay in Atlas Park till level 50 running solo missions. Or after level 7 head to Perez Park and solo till your hearts content. Hit Boomtown above level 12 and then in the 20s I promise you will be pretty much alone most of the time in Terra Volta or Dark Astoria. Same thing in Eden and Crey's Folly when you hit the the 30s and you can probably even spend a long time seeing no one battling street mobs above 35 in the RWZ and Cimerora. Most of those zones are always empty unless someone is sent there by a contact or a Task Force/Trial. You can live or die on your own abilities with out the annoyance of people that may actually, out of the goodness of their hearts, want to try and help you.
As I said in my other post here hitting me with SB or any buff at Wentworth or a Trainer is pretty silly but dismissing or even accusing someone willing to try and help you of grieving is even sillier. I'm sorry if my wanting to help interferred with the fun of a trip to the hospital and maybe getting to work of debt because your patrol XP ran out has ruined the game for you. Get a BIG sign and paste it on the back of your cape saying "HEY LEAVE ME ALONE I CAN DO THIS MYSELF" and I will continue on my way while you expire. Otherwise if I see you in trouble I am coming to the rescue... Hmmm Gee that sounds like something a HERO would do doesn't it? -
Quote:Yes, heaven forbid people try to help you.
I know that some people find it annoying, but I'd say that my experiences in-game show that many more people actually like getting drive-by buffs.
I agree...
Okay I understand where the OP is coming from in one respect. If I am standing in WW selling why someone with a brand new BUFF they just have to show off needs to SB me is beyond my grasp. But I have, in my travels through the city, spotted a lone scrapper or tank taking on street villains and swooped down to heal and buff them so they stand a better chance of surviving and in almost every case when the player finished the last of the mob I got a thanks either in local or via a tell. If you see someone that is struggling why not lend a hand? Hey I didn't attack and steal kills.. Come on I am on a 50 level ILL/EMP Controller what do I need with a few mindless XPless defeats of level 15 Tsoo in Steel Canyon? All I did was get them back to 100% health Buff their END and REC and if available hit them with Fortitude.
Like I said I understand what YOU (the OP) meant I can't count how many time I have been at a trainer leveling and finished to discover I had been Sb'd or whatever X number of times. Gee thanks guys I am headed off to sell the useless enhancements I got doing missions, buy the ones I really need for the new slots or power I just picked up, head to base to craft and then Wentworths to sell again. By the time I am ready to do missions again that Sb is going to be a real help. But don't dismiss every willing buffer out there for the ones that do it for no good reason. I just stopped whatever it was I was on the way to do so I could heal and buff you keeping you alive to keep fighting. Hey OP don't want my help? Send me a PM with all you character's names.. I play on Virtue. If you do too I will tape the list up by my computer and gladly just keep on flying while the Tsoo, or whatever, send you of to the hospital. LOL -
Quote:You're disclaimer sort of says it all. Did you manage to introduce any of these friends to some of the NON repetive things to try? Of course I realize they have to stick around long enough to attain the levels but Giant Monster battles, Stopping the building of a Clockwork Paladan in KR, Task Forces and Trials (you are still running from one door to another but with a binding theme behind it all and nice rewards at the end). Were any of them around for the Halloween event, The Winter Event (in and out of Pocket D), the Valentine's Day event (In Pocket D). Did any of them try leveling using the sewers in Altas rather than running door missions there in Atlas or in Galaxy? I have left the Sewers as high as level 10 in less than 90 minutes and that certainly is not running from one door mission to another. Did they solo constantly or actually hook up on large teams? I can solo with almost all of my characters but leveling is faster, easier and frankly more fun when you have 6-7 team mates along. I still recall the fun of doing Newspaper missions on an all MM team... when all those pets came out it looked like Gang War before "Gang War" ever existed. Did any of them do any badge hunting? Okay running around Atlas and KR picking up exploration badges and clicking History plaques isn't exactly thrilling but look how many serious badgers we have out there? Players that will devote hours or days to hunting down Fake Nemesis or Paragon Protectors for that next bright shiny. You never know what is going to peek a players interest and make them want to stay for years and we certainly have our share of badge hounds and few dozen Exploration badges may be all it took to make them hungry for MORE!I've been playing our fair game off and on since about a month after launch. I love the many aspects of this game, especially the customization - both the costume editor and the amazing enhancement/IO system. I really love that there are Archtypes for any playstyle I feel like at a given moment. I *really* love Knockback with ragdoll physics. Needless to say, with my gaming friends I am a bit of a cheerleader for CoX. I've convinced several of them to try it. Unfortunately, none of them stuck with the game. When asked why they canceled, the answer was always the same:
"It's too repetitive."
Of course they don't mean the 10 ATs. Or the huge variety of powerset combinations per AT. Or that you can go weeks without seeing two PCs that look alike. Or the different challenges of the assorted enemy groups.
They've all told me that the basic act in the game - "Get a mission. Enter the mission. See that enemy group there? Kick their butts." - is to them the same thing over and over again. I only sort of agree with them, though I do see their point: The groups of enemies tend to always be standing in a similar little huddle (certain Nemesis and Council formations we rarely see in missions notwithstanding) and the players always initiate the fights bushwhack-style (berserker pets and ambushes also notwithstanding). I don't really see this as a problem but obviously many people do.
What do you think? Is the basic gameplay of CoX overly repeated? Would it help if Going Rogue had an AI upgrade that made for more dynamic combat starts and enemy placements inside missions? Would reworked and increased enemy ambushes and placements make CoX more interesting or just more frustrating?
(Disclaimer: You and I both know that if one gets out and does TFs and mission arcs, or even well-made AE stuff, that the game has more to offer than bushwhacking loiterers... but all of the friends mentioned above were casual players that never got 'hooked' by the game long enough to get that far. I for one won't ever get tired of ganking Luddites and Clockwork by the bushel.)
I understand they are casual layers but I had one ILL/EMP Troller that went up 14 levels on one long Saturday.. At level 11 she got an invite to an 8 man Positron and left at level 16. While she was at WW selling a message came out that a Synapse was forming and she quickly volunteered. After that I leveled (to 20) and took a break. When I came back all I was planning to do was her costume and cape mission and create a new look for her when I got an invite to Sister Psyche. She was half way to 21 when it started and so close to 25 when if ended I found a team in Talos and got her that final level for the day. So in about 7 hours of play time I went from barely able to survive in Steel Canyon to being half was done doing missions in Talos and IP. Would I ever do 3 TFs in one day again? LOL NO but when it was over I was amazed at her progress.
Let's face it as the very next poster pointed out it's an MMO and at some point they all repeat. You can only fit so many maps and so many missions onto a server and still leave room for the potential players so the lag doesn't drive them away. Low level missions are designed to help a player learn how his or her new power sets function and, hopefully, develop strategies that allow them to survive and thrive. On Contact, Radio(COH), or Newspaper(COV), you are going to find yourself running from one door to the next battling X villain group for a mission complete. But if you team up those levels fly by quickly and before you realize it you are in your 20s and HEY! I am almost half way to being a 50! Computer games and now On line MMOs are the children and grandchildren of the old arcade games and tell me PacMan and Mario Brothers in those days were not just as repetitive if not more so. -
I think Lyrik's idea would ork and is probably easier for the Devs to accomplish. Simply make the Costume Creator a pop up of sorts that can be set aside if someone sends a tell or you are also watching Globals for that next TF you want (what ever). I understand why this has come up. I know all of us have gone in to edit mode only to hear a "ding" and thinking it was something or someone important backed out of the costume creator only to discover it's someone asking if we want to join some team or another. Someone we don't know at all and would much rather finish what we had been doing than tke a chance on a possible decent team. Can get a bit frustrating as we either ignore them completely or send back a polite tell saying no thanks and then head back in to start all over again.
-
Try Arch/ICE all the fun and forepower of AR and , in MY opinion only, one of the most accurate Blaster attack powet sets in game. I tend to ignore enhancing until level 12 when I can get DOs and even at low levels the amount of hits to misses amazed me. With most powersets I normally take enhance with 2 accuracies an 1 rechage.. With Archery I have 1 Accracy and 2 recharge so her attacks come back even faster. Another advantage I like, and by the way I have both an AR/DEV and ARCH/ICE at level 50, is the difference between Full Auto and Rain of Arrows. Both are great but Full Auto required you to pick a target and then anything around it gets hit as well. Problem is if anything break up the mob and your target runs there are instances where the only thing that gets hit is that one villain. Rain of Arrows is a AOE and you select a spot to hit... sure someone could still scatter the mob but, again only my opinion, you get a lot more villains consistantly with ROA than with FA. I soled with my Arch/Ice anytime I couldn't find a team and she was very effective.
If you love AR I think you will LOVE Archery too -
Quote:What some of the other have mentioned in true no signature hero in game is both a contact and a trainer so they'd be replacing BAB in Galaxy to give him a TF.. I like seeing BAB in Galaxy so let's find someone else. No idea who since it seems like every signature hero either trains or is a contact now as it is.. may need to create a contact for this.....I would rather have a BAB TF first. Something that targets levels 5-10 and is all in one zone. I like BAB, I don't care who is in charge, he is still my favorite Dev. Also my first character started in Galaxy City, and all those after. I have just always liked BAB.
I do like the idea of a low level TF but maybe we should make it something shorter like a trial with a few missions and then a final confrontation. Problem with a 5-10 level TF is you put 7 or 8 players together running any missions and it wouldn't be long before all of them out leveled the task force they were on and were ready to do Positron. Also at that level villain types available are a little limited and we already have a Posi at level 10 that pits us against Circle of Thorns, Vahzilok and Clockwork. Off the top of my head how about a short trial involving Skulls, Hellions and Outcast?
Form a TF: Rumors are circulating that the Skulls, Hellions and Outcast are negotiating to set aside their past issues and unit to become much more of a threat. We need intelligence and now to find the site of this meeting and prevent it from happing.
Mission one: Defeat Bonecrusher and his Minions, searh for clues (One glowie containing some info on the meeting) SKULLS
Mission two: Defeat Hellspawn and his follower, rescue Detective Jones (Jones was kidnapped because he'd discovered more info on the meeting place) Hellions
Mission three: Defeat Tempest and his men, serch for clue (one glowie containing the final clue to the meeting place) Outcast
Mission four: Take the clues to Paco Sanchez in Galazy ( Paco pieces together the clues and gives you the location of the meeting)
Mission five: Defeat the gang leader and stop Frostfire (Hey I had to pick someone to be the AV/EB right? Scattered throughout a cave players will face bosses and minions from each group and then finally face off against Frostfire who came up with the plan to unit the warring gangs and wreck havoc on the city)
Okay it's rough but not too long and gives the TF and chance to battle all the gangs in order to find the location of the final mission. Add a badge.. GangBuster is taken so I don't have a clue what to call it.and maybe an added bonus of a accolade style power to help thise lower levels out .. how about something that boosts stamina for a short period of time ever 30 minutes?
As for War Witch I sort of agree she should stay a ghost. Hey she already has more work than most signature characters training heroes in Croatoa and both heroes and villains in Pocket D.
