I have the very real option to NOT get locked into the rat race, ignore the whole thing and play the game like it was 2004.
You wanna party like it's 2-0-0-4?
  2. The rep system COULD have been useful, especially to newbies. But the "rep farmers" basically made the whole thing pointless.

IMHO the mods should take it out.

That's basically my thought process. SOs are good enough for me. If I use IOs, it's just the common ones so they don't wear out.

Here's something fun for you all, the original full question I had in mind when I stated the OP: Why so serious? Or in longer form: Why take the game so serious that you spend hours "working" a second job for imaginary "stuff"?

I'll just toss that out there, have fun with that.
  4. Someone needs to read my guide on making PuG TFs.... dammit I really need to adjust it for regular teams.... all the basic principles are there.

I think sonic and FF buffs are great but not quite well appreciated. At the early levels, the bubble buffs by themselves are not quite enough to keep people alive
Mostly because people never LRN2KB properly. They either do it wrong or never even bother to use it to begin with. The Ally Bubbles + Force Bolt when used intelligently can keep an entire team alive in the early levels.... with the sole exception of Vahzilok.... hate them.... SO. MUCH.

    CoH vs. HL2?

So you don't see the "C" shape (Combine or Council) inside the Kite-shaped polygon that has a circular interior?

    CoH vs. HL2?

The inside of the Combine logo is also supposed to be white... for some reason the GIF has a translucent background instead... which makes it more similar.

    • Be polite. People like that and remember it.
    • To the best of your ability, use proper grammar and punctuation. It's sadly less common than it ought to be, and you will stand out. Judging from your posts, this won't be an issue.
    • Assume that when someone gives you advice, they mean well and are not insulting you, your build, your playing skills, or your family. After almost five years in this game, I am still learning new tricks from fellow players.
    • It's a game, so have a good time and do your best to help others have a good time.
    • When someone decides to be a ********, don't respond in kind. Put them on ignore, report them if they are abusive, but don't give them the pleasure of goading you into a response.
    • This one is CoX specific: you don't need any specific team makeup for any of the game content. When someone says they need a tank or a kin or a healer, they are incorrect. Some of the best times in this game are found when you form up a Faathim TF with three scrappers, four tankers and one terrified blaster, and proceed to finish it in two hours.
    • This one is CoX specific: Don't do "boss farms" or "AE farms," at least not for your first characters. The game is big and filled with stories and stuff; enjoy it.
    • Nothing of value is said in zonewide chat channels. This one is occasionally untrue, but those times are few and far between. When you read something in broadcast that sounds completely idiotic, it doesn't need a response.

There's plenty more but I think this will get you rolling and help you have a good time.

All of this. Also, don't rush to 50 (the max level), because this game is all about the journey, not the end. Especially for new players.

You might also want to check out some of the guides in my signature, especially the Combat Guide, it will give you a jump start in the game.

    CoH vs. HL2?

I was just playing through the "other stuff" in the Orange Box after finishing Half Life 2 and the episodes (Portal with the commentary, Lost Coast, etc.) Then after finishing Lost Coast, I decided to look up some info on the aliens on Wikipedia, just for fun.... and I came across this:

"The Combine, also referred to as the Universal Union, is a fictional multidimensional empire, which serves as the primary antagonistic force in the Half-Life video game series, developed by Valve Corporation. The Combine consist of alien, synthetic and human elements, and dominate Earth."

"The Combine are frequently shown as harsh rulers over the citizens of Earth, suppressing dissent with brutality, policing using violence and using invasive surgery to transform humans into either soldiers or slaves."

    And their logo:

Which looked VERY familiar to me......

    That's the Council...... hmmmm....

Paramilitary fascist society that performs experiments on humans and combines them with ALIEN DNA? Sounds awfully familiar to me.....

Now, CoH came out in 2004, and HL2 came out in 2004 as well. HL1 came out in 1998, but I never played it so I don't know if they had the Combine as we know it in HL2 back then.

So what is it, did NCSoft "steal" from Valve, did Valve "steal" from NCSoft, or did they both just HAPPEN to come up with the same concept at the same time with VERY similar logos for their respective groups?

    Make you think, doesn't it?

And, you know what? Before the Architect, there was farming, yes.
No there wasn't. I already explained this before in another thread, but I'll state it again just for fun.

What is farming? It's growing food for harvest.

What do you do in the "normal" game content? You hunt down pre-existing "food" in a small artificially enclosed space. Guess what that is? RANCHING!

Yup, before AE, all players could do was ranch.

Now they can make their own mobs.... they can "cultivate" or "grow" their own food for later harvesting.

Thus AE finally introduced actual farming, YAY!
  17. Fascinating responses. I could say more, but, nah.

If you play just, or mostly, for numbers... whatever does it for you. *shrug* I play for fun and amusement. If I were that heavily concentrated on the numbers, I'd be firing up Excel every night, not COH.
This should end the thread right here, in a perfect world. But alas, perfect this world is not.

Also, dude, I don't care about the nerf. I really don't. I'm just discussing how it will effect my gameplay.

If you don't care about the nerf, why would it effect your gameplay? One half of that statement has to be false, logically.

Now instead of going out of my way to fight them I'll go out of my way to avoid them.
Why? See, this is the mentality that I just don't understand. I play the game to play the game. I don't care how fast I'm levelling or what stuff I'm getting, I just ..... play.

I'd never avoid content because of "lesser" XP or seek out content because of "greater" XP, and I just don't understand the mentality of those that do.
  22. With my FF/Elec Defender where *I* have endurance drain, good defense and status resistance, yes, they are a snap for me. Repulsion Bomb + Ball Lightning + Short Circuit, PFF for about two-five seconds and then do it again. BOOM, all dead but the boss, who is completely drained of endurance.

Mooks however have higher reistences to most types of damage, they go down MUCH slower for me.
