  2. Well, Cuppa is great and this isn't aimed at her -- three cheers for the messenger -- but it's about time that they fixed those bad spawns.

I mean, this has been on the bug list since the first weeks of beta. How long ago was that? Three years?!? And now it's worse than ever. It used to not happen very often (but man, it was hard when it hit), now it's almost all the time.

So now 10 fissions and 4 PAID expansions later, they're finally getting around to fixing this. But, oh they had time to add the Bollon Kine submenafin exploration (that no one ever does), the Zelenvang Bruzzels (that's ALWAYS empty) and surfing. SURFING!

    This is ridiculous. Just ridiculous

So I guess it's a waste of time to suggest that an endurance reduction won't counteract the overall weakening every other aspect of our powers receive from "diversification".

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm guessing you're right, mostly because I figure weakening everybody (some more than others) is the goal.

This is just a bone to distract us.
  4. Yes, this is a good thing.

But could we please get a comment on that elephant over there, Mr. Emmert.

You answered most of your questions yourself. The writing is on the wall, all their eggs in one basket as you put it. I5 was the beginning of the transition of turning CoH from a PvE based experience into one focused on the PvP aspects to be introduced with CoV.

A majority of future content, I would wager especially end game content, is meant to be player generated...ie:PvP.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Erm. No. PvP will be an optional part of gameplay. Always.

The changes in I5 had very little to do with PvP and a lot to do with boring PvE. It's that simple. No conspiracy there - I think I've stated this several times.

As for the supposed "emphasis" on PvP - I think you'll see that it's just ONE part of City of Villains. It has PvE content levels 1 to 50.

We'll continue to add new PvE content (which I5 did exclusively, I might add) in the future.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The problem is, Mr. Emmert, that Nozybida's explanations (this one and others) make a lot more sense than yours do.

His are rational and come from someone whe seems to be:
    1. playing the same game I am and,
    2. like me, is playing it to have a good time pretending to be a superhero.

Your explanations sometimes defy reason and come from someone who:
    1. doesn't seem to be playing the same game I am and,
    2. unlike me, seems to be playing it as a test to prove how great he is.
  6. No! Don't change the boom! I like it. It's a fun comic-booky thing (as opposed to unfun comic-booky things like getting knocked across a room).

The phase shift-type powers I'll leave to others. I've never found them all that useful for my playstyle -- I like to fight the bad guys, not hide from them -- and obviously the devs want them to be even less useful than they were. I mean, if I were to really suggest something it would be: Gimme another attack.

But please, please keep the boom! Part of what made this game fun used to be simple childlike stuff -- Whee, I'm a hero, I can fly, I can be the good guy and get rid of those villians! Most of that is gone (or soon will be, I'm sure); all the fun has to be serious and intellectual or it's too "easy". But a boom! Really, it doesn't unbalance anything. Let it be.

    I5

I don't like the whole feel of I5 because the "challenge" that was added in wasn't anything interesting, it was simply "Do I feel lucky?"

That's what we got, less defense for heroes all around (or in the invuls' case, more reliance on it) and thus worse odds.

It's only more fun if you enjoy gambling. It isn't about working out better strategy and tactics at all, unless you didn't have any good ones before.

And about the changes to Invul: They're lazy and meanspirited. If you just thought they were overpowered, you could have given it some sympathetic thought and taken some off the top. Instead, you came at the set, and to a lesser extent the AT, with a machete and just started hacking away.

That's roughly the way I approach my missions, but I'm playing here, and this is supposed to be your job. And isn't stopping to think what you want players to do more of? Hmm, I think I smell irony around here somewhere.

There were some good things in and around I5. I'm actually finding fun and success playing the blaster my tank was remade as after you screwed up his shields. My DM/DA is viable now.

Still, I think you diminished the game, overall. I fear that deep down, when you think of true comic book heroes, you're thinking of Archie and Jughead instead of, say, Spider-Man and Green Lantern.
  8. [ QUOTE ]

Nerfs: He mentioned that the 30’s game and above is NOT Balanced (his emphasis). He said that he wanted to make it more challenging and exciting to get a Yes!! I beat it feeling.

    [/ QUOTE ]

To me, the point of leveling in this game is to get past thirty and actually feel like you've accomplished something, like you're actually powerful. And that's going to go away?

You see, dying never gives that feeling. Not ever. And that's what more "challenge" inevitably means, more deaths. Lots more deaths. The decreased debt (that's planned) is irrelevant, because it isn't the debt, it's the deaths.

A couple deaths really drain away the value of a subsequent success. I mean, obviously if you whittle away long enough, you get it done. If every successful mission kills you first, it just shows what a wimpy hero you are, even after 30 or more levels of working at it.

The levels before 30 or so (exact level depends on the individual hero) are painful now. If that's balance, if that's the way the whole game "should" be, then when exactly do you get to feel like you've accomplished anything? I understand about the journey being a big part of the fun, but there should be a feeling of accomplishment that doesn't melt away every time you level.

he HATES the stores in Talos and IP. As soon as he is able he will get rid of them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yet another way to make life miserable for players. How in the world can you get "more fun" from this?

    [ QUOTE ]
He again said that he didn’t mind Power leveling but that it indicated that something was wrong if folks preferred sitting by the door rather than playing the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Good thing he doesn't mind it, cause actually playing is going to get even more unappealing than ever as the above items are implemented.

    [ QUOTE ]
... (roughly 40% of the player base is new to MMOrpgers).

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's really a shame then that his plans are the kind of things that only serious, fun-is-too-easy-get-rid-of-it MMORGP'ers will appreciate.

    [ QUOTE ]

Mr. Emmert loves the challenge of the hallows

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Figures.

    [ QUOTE ]
He reads the boards and plays the game daily.

    [/ QUOTE ]

He's even said himself something to the effect that he probably doesn't see it as the average gamer see it. Too bad he doesn't seem to take that to heart. Look, I have no doubt Mr. Emmert wants to make a fun game. But I really think his perspective has grown way far afield from that of many of the rest of us, particularly the 40% mentioned above, of which I was one.

I've loved playing this game. But everything he plans to do to it now looks awful. Just as I get thinking maybe it won't be so bad, he says more, and I realize, it most likely will get that bad.

I guess the only thing I can hope for is that it takes a long time.
  9. [ QUOTE ]

    3. When I hit level 50 I wanted to come back were it all started for me that was Atlas. I came back to be trained by the Lady herself because she had trained me to 2 and well it just seemed so right she be the one to take me to 50.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Gee, and I thought I was odd doing this. (Only it was the Brawler for me!)

Anyway, maybe training could be like contacts and stores: Once you have them as a trainer you can always go back.
  10. In one of the Freakshow missions a named Freak is The Kerner. He identifies himself as a graphic designer: "This graphic designmer's gonna make you fry!"

Kern is the space between characters in type. It is adjusted for various reasons, such as looks or readability.

So this guy has taken on the title of "One who adjusts the space between letters." (Which would be one of the things a graphic designer does.)

I'm an editor who does a bit of kerning herself, and this really made me laugh. I mean, this guy must have had a really pathetic life.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
.... I'll take one portal to a 1930's zone please, with 30's and pulp hero contacts, and large cars with running boards. The Family will be there, the 5th will have a new home, throw in some Tsoo, and some new villains of course. Meet you there in 4 months for a beer.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is very much what I was thinking when I was skimming this thread at work. I'd love this.

And a comedy world -- that would be great too.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
When I exemplared down, all the enemies ran from me. Every one, as if they knew I was higher level. It was strange.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Glad to know it wasn't just me.

As of the 19th, it had not been fixed. Happened to me too. Made for a hysterical mission, running around like crazy.

    I bug reported it.
