Hmm looks good. But did you make said image from scratch?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Define 'from scratch'? I didn't create the model of the girl, but I posed her, rendered her, and photoshopped the piece for weeks. I created the texture on outfit from scratch, and digitally painted the vine and her hair. I modelled the leaves in MAYA, the wall in Vue Infinite, and photoshopped the Arkham letter in there.

I'm planning to put a tutorial on my site that'll show all the steps.

Pfft, you're only hardcore if you coded the programs yourself....

Edit: Oh! Aside from being a [censored], I have a question. As much as I would like to have my own personal model to pose nude for me, I can't afford it yet (someday!). So I study a lot of artistic posing others have done for reference and such (ones that are meant to be used free for reference). I also will shoot my own reference when possible (I have a lot of pictures of my hands in the mirror....). But I've found that its really hard to find decent reference of flying people and pushing people off buildings is generally frowned upon.

About how much does something like Poser cost and would it be decent to use as a program for myself to make references for gravity-defying poses? Is there a good cheap alternative? I want a program with very basic models that move realistically enough but can be put in the unpossible superhero sort of posing situations.
  2. I'll take your contest and raise you a challenge.

I have a character that right now is a name-only. I think THIS character would be very fun for your style. So I can possibly trade back to you at some point (but not for a couple months at the very least).

    Widow. Kitten Stomper.

I didn't make any special costume for her (just the standard widow dealie). I couldn't decide what would be best. All I know is that she's evil. EEEEEEEVIL. She stomps kittens for crying out loud!

So basically.... whatever you want, just that she has to look as evil as a chick who stomps kittens would look.

You know Doug...I feel foolish now. Almost to a degree that no one may really quite understand, but its there.

    Why though, might anyone ask?

Because until ten minutes ago it never occurred to me that you were this Doug Shuler. With which upon that realization I now know I have more of your artwork than many of the individuals on these forums

P.S. ... >_> will you sign my BFM?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Many.... but not all. Back in the day, I had an entire collection of Serah Angels, including a signed one.

I felt the same as you do now when I realized he was THAT Doug Shuler.
  4. May many sexy vixens burst out of cakes for you.
  5. *milk through nose*

I have a couple joke characters. I have defender named Grammar Police. She's hard to play, because she spends most of her time correcting grammar in broadcast.

I also have a widow named Kitten Stomper. What's more evil than that?!

*perks* Ooh, a pinup girl? Well, if it's my PinUp Girl, I'd be thrilled to be in the next lineup--thanks so much! Here's her references:

Very nice. I love her expression... so happy to be causing elemental fury!
  8. OK, before you even begin to think about digital inking anything, do yourself a gigantic favor and find some tutorials on working with layers. Maybe there are some in Angel Rad's guide collection stickied thread? Sorry I can't be more helpful, but I live and breathe layers so much that it would be hard for me to explain the basics (I freely admit I'm NO good at teaching detailed processes... helpful hints are where its at for me).

But if you're going to use either of these programs, you must become comfortable with layers. You SEVERELY limit your options otherwise.

    And Rob Zombie.

So while considering coming back into playing CoH, I'm eyeing the mac version... everything I have plays better on my cute lil Mac...

I watched Frost have all sorts of "fun" dealing with the Mac client one night and figured it wasn't worth the trouble. I'll keep using Boot Camp ^.^
  10. It depends on if you have a tablet. But regardless, as long as you do the line work on a separate layer, no, don't bother removing the grid lines. You don't have to trace over them, so after you're done with your inking, just ditch your pencil layer and the grid lines will be gone, too.

If you have a tablet; use Illustrator with its brush and pencil tools. But do a quick search for some Illustrator brushes for comic style inking around the net, first. There's lots out there that are free to download if you're not going to use them commercially and give out some cred (generally). You have to mess with a couple settings on the base Illustrator brushes before they're good to use for comic-style inking.

If you DON'T have a tablet, I'd probably go with Photoshop and using the PEN tool to do your line work.

EDIT: By the way, I love those pencils. Your way of putting in a ton of small details with a really fun style reminds me greatly of Rob Zombie.
  11. I'm taking a college course teaching Illustrator and it still angers me. If you're learning it on your own, TAKE YOUR TIME!!!

If I didn't adore the brush and pencil tools in Illustrator so insanely much, I think I would hate the program. But part of my problem is I'm over-used to Photoshop and want to snap my keyboard in half over certain things just not seeming intuitive to me in Illustrator.

Dunno... some things in Illustrator just seem like they're way more complicated than they really need to be.

But again, for anyone doing comic-style work, just the brush and pencil tools alone are worth the investment. I can't say enough how much easier it made inking for me!
  12. My Status

That's how I do mine, for me and anyone who's actually in line. Right now I'm on reserves only (as noted), but there's usually 5 active slots. I list the people, the type, and which stage the piece is in, and edit the post when a piece is completed/started/moves into a new stage/etc.
  13. The tolerance setting is right up in the settings bar under the menu bar.

Edit: When you have the magic wand selected, of course...
  14. I haven't done anything safe enough for the Scoop in quite a while!

  15. I'm very glad you're so happy with it. She really was just a joy to work on from start to finish.

And while I do have lots of fun doing the fluffy pieces with just hot chickies, I get the most enjoyment from pieces like this where I can tell a bit of a story. Its why I generally ask for backstories. They help me almost more than screenshots do.
  16. Its been just about FOREVER since I could last direct link to a piece!!!

I just finished this for The Masked Shrike ^.^

  18. Just keep in mind that there's a lot of variation in manga. Its like American comic style... it does have a certain "look", but with the different artists there's a lot of different takes. So don't sweat getting the eyes or whatever to look EXACTLY like one drawing... putting your own flair in it doesn't make it a failure or something ^.^
  19. I'm also wondering who let all these vagrants back in
  20. I really liked how Virs came out, though you really do have to see her in person.

Anyone who asks for a pin-up style pose makes Wassy's heart go all aflutter.
