Thanks for this!! My travel power would be SS.
My theme - - - a mutant hamster in a hamster ball =) =) =)
My 7 year old insists lol -
Hi - I just got back into the game several weeks ago and I have a character that I have decided to use primarily.
Unfortunately, I have no missions queued up, so I cant determine what he has worked on, its been so long.
What should I do to start levelling at this point? What zones are best? Are there any 'must do' content I shouldn't miss along the way? I never got a character much beyond 20, so most of the game is fresh and new for me, so any advice is welcomed.
I looked for a guide but I didn't find anything quite like what I was looking for. The game is so wide open I suspect many of us miss alot of it along the way. I really like to experience a game, rather than level through it at breakneck speeds =)
Thanks! -
I've been looking for a ff/sonic build for a concept character- I read awhile back that they worked well together, but I can't find any examples less than a year old, so I'm curious what the current best build for that combo would look like?
Thanks!!! -
I'm just getting back into the game and it seems like Defenders have been given a bit of love, so its time for my first try.
Does anyone have a /ice build they would recommend that is a solid all around performer? I solo quite a bit but I also would want to be useful in groups!
Thanks in advance!! -
Ok thanks! At least they are aware!
-
I can't zoom in any longer when selecting faces, or any upper body part during character creation. Its immensely frustrating.
Is there a fix for this? Its been like this since the last major patch- several weeks maybe? I've been trying to work through it, but as an altaholic, its driving me insane!! -
I'm also to see a few examples of the super-duper Rad/Sonic - searches yield few results =(
-
What are the best secondaries for Radiation? I see some references for Rad/Ele and Rad/fire but are there no other secondaries that are viable?
Personally I'm curious if rad/ice is a valid set combo.
I'm a returning player so all my CoX-fu has dissipated and so I need help hehe
Thanks in advance!! -
I've been searching for awhile today and I just can't find many of this specific build. Maybe I'm not picking the right search options or something.
Could you claws/WP folks post your builds? I'm still on my re-learning curve but having a framework to draw from would be very helpful - also the build guide sticky 'Claws' section is totally blank so I'm at a loss =(.
Thanks in advance!!! -
I used to have an emote where I would slapsmackslapsmackslapsmackslapsmack very quickly- I saw someone do this just the other day but today when I asked how to do it, everyone said this was 'fixed'... yet I just saw someone do it!!
Can someone give me the straight story here? I'm trying to get back into writing this stuff (masterminds use bind and emotes more than others it seems) so I want to have this one.
Post it if you've got it. =)
PS sounds like maybe two keys bound smack and slap and hitting them repeatedly will do this. Sound right? -
So let me ask this - lets say I was in this situation, I dinged to 10 (combat) but didnt train... could I continue to earn XP and not 'outlevel' my contacts (that have a cap of level 9)?
I always hear that people 'turn off XP' to not outlevel their contacts... so which level do contacts run off of? Both or just one?
This game is more complex than first meets the eye for sure. -
I dont recall. It doesn't matter - I just want to understand the mechanics so I know what to do next time hehe.
Thanks for the help everyone.
I'll remember you all when I rule the world one day... -
I have one mission in my list - its the first step for Borcor (Sea Witch) and that's it. And my XP is off, but technically these are listed on Paragon Wiki as 5-9 contacts (I am lvl10) But here's what happened. I got my second bank mission but failed it. Went back to Micky the Ear and he let me choose a second contact... I chose Billie. Went to him and he greeted me but said "I got nothin' for you ya - bother someone else. He's listed as an inactive contact.
I think I've outlevelled him even though I am exactly the same level as when Micky gave me Bocor as a contact. Odd. Oh well. Looks like I have to wait till 25... -
Hmmm I got Billie by doing more newspaper missions but he won't talk to me. I hit lvl 10 before I turnded off Xp... I probably out leveled him? Although I'm the same level as when I got Bocor, yet he opened for me.
Any ideas? I can't de-lvl through debt right? So probably just Flashback for me...
Ideas? -
Thanks for the info!
Ok I want to go through the Bocor and Billie- - I just realized I've hit 10... I can take Bocor but what do I have to do to open up Billie? More Newspaper stuff until The Ear likes me more? Will he offer up Billie again? I've turned off XP at this poiint -
At lvl 5-9 which of these three are best to take? Is there any benefit to taking one contact over the other? I'm a tech-origin MM so perhaps salvage or something would drop more readily for me from some mobs and not others?
Just returned awhile back so relearning it all... -
Ok so essentially some of these combos simply aren't possible in the ATs as they exist today.
I thought I had missed something along the way =) Thanks for confirming it for me. -
I'm a little confused - this chart shows Scrappers with pools I don't see... how do you make a Super Strength Scrapper? That's not possible on my client....
-
You know I hear (or read I suppose) everyone complain about warmace damage but I have to say, I kill things with two swings COLD... I cant do that with other pools. Baron Blarney-Stone is a hard hitting little Leprechaun indeed...
Thanks for the build advice!!
Sláinte -
Ok some followup missions then - You mention both KR and Atlas for those Safeguard missions... I did 5 scanner missions and got the bank mission, but it sounds like there is another? Does that start in Atlas since you mentioned Atlas? Or is that the first one?
I'll have to look up Spelunker and Negotiator to figure out what I need to do.
Sounds like there IS more to do than I realized. From my join date you can tell I've been around a long time... but I was gone along time =) and my highest is only 19 or so... so I'm part old-timer (back when there was a rumor that there was a badge on top of the blimp lol) but also very newbish. Its a strange split-brain I have .
Thanks for the info. Someone should think of putting together some of this data and more for new folks... "10 ways to make it it 20 without AE or sewer grinding".... As someone who's tried nearly every MMOG, this game is very free-form to the point of being a little confusing. "Oh two mission choices... oh jeez... do I miss something if I warn Ms Parker rather than take out the Hellions?" And so many contacts... As one person said - there's so much to do that I would need to turn off levelling (which I have no idea how to do btw haha). That sort of overload can lead to what I have termed level apathy. EQII has the same issue. They have revamped it so much that there is far more content than you can complete without turning off levelling. I generally have to abandon lowby quests just because on the 5th, 6th or 18th alt its just not worth it to run through the stuff again.
Anyway, thanks so much for the info. This really helps me as far as deciding what to do. -
I've been contemplating this as a returning player that never got very far in the game initially and I still don't have a solid answer. Here's a topic I've never seen an answer for.
As you progress through the first 10-20 levels, you are handed off from contact to contact. Each Origin contact seems to have a particular yen for a villain group - some deal with Clockworks, others with Hellions... you get the idea. Sometimes it seems you get on a mini-arc which is nice. But what I don't understand is this -
How much of the overall story do I miss by skipping contacts? There have been times I wind up lvl 8 without trying (sewer runs) and when I go back the contact hands me off to another. Hmmm did I miss anything?
So I guess my questions center around missing out on content.
1. Is any of the very lowby content (pre-20 missions) something I want to do for the sake of knowing what is going on in the CoH universe?
2. Are there any 'must do' sorts of things pre-20? Or is it just a grind? I'm not being derrogetory, I literally don't know the answer.
3. Is there a 'right way' to progress through CoH? typically I skip Kings Row because I can go to Hollows... what would I miss there? Is that a bad idea? See? I'm confused. Is it more free, or is there a good/better/best way to go through the content.
My gut says this stuff, while entertaining, isn't essential to progress through the story of CoH. But maybe I'm wrong.
I found this page on Story Arcs:
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Hero_Story_Arcs
Should I just try to get those and not worry about the rest of the little missions?
Some games tend to hand-hold you through go here go there... CoH seems more open and that's fine. I just want to know once and for all if I'll be missing chunks of story. -
No WU's... they make that crispy duck... so tasty... makes me go WUUUUU!!! XD
-
On the blue side I went with a DM/SD Scrapper - The Quicksilver Crusader and on the Red, I went with Elec/SD Brute
I chose Wu's so on the blue side I have Shadow maul and Wus so he's blip-blip-blipblip-blip-blipblip-blip-blipblip-blip-blipblip-blip-blip POW with Smite. Looks and works pretty well.
I think I'll pick up flurry and whirlwind as well. Wont be a min-max build but that's not what he's for hehe. -

Character concept motivates my selection of travel powers not AT.
[/ QUOTE ]
See, I sorta assumed the OP was talking about concept. I mean, 'speedster' to me refers not to the travel power but to the whole package. Guys like The Flash, Quicksilver, Johnny Quick, Speed Demon, Northstar...
...or if we're talking a signature character example, Synapse.
I figure the OP's asking - given THAT kind of character concept, how do you represent such a thing in CoH?
My oldest CoH character is a Dark Melee/Regen Scrapper. Regen on the basis that her speed's based on accelerated biology - she moves fast and heals fast. She uses Shadow Punch, Smite, Shadow Maul and Boxing as attacks; I can handwave the black clouds away as motion blur.
Obviously my original choice was motivated by Shadow Maul - but it works okay
More recently, I made a Soviet supersoldier speedster who was an Energy Melee/Energy Aura brute. I think Energy Aura looks pretty damn good alongside the superspeed travel glow, and especially awesome with the prestige power sprint that gives golden lines.
Energy Melee works...enh, reasonably well. However, Energy Transfer and Total Focus are kinda deal-breakers for me on a speedster. They're long and slow attacks - they have your character standing there and winding up for a single big blow.
I realise that Shadow Maul has comparable root time in terms of game mechanics, but visually speaking Shadow Maul is KAPOW-KAPOW-KAPOW-KAPOW-KAPOW.
Energy Transfer and Total Focus are like...okay, well, I'm gonna stand here for a bit...maybe a bit longer...hm, I wonder what's on TV...hey, maybe I should check the news...where was I...oh yeah...POW.
I don't think they're very speedstery.
Kinetics...works pretty good, actually, for speedster-type stuff. But then you need to figure out what other powerset you'll pair it with - gonna need to be a blast or control set, and that's kinda tricky. Pure comic book speedsters usually punch or ram into their targets - thus a melee AT fits better than a ranged one for simulating that, I think.
I have a Kin/Sonic defender - I see the Sonic blasts as controlled shockwave attacks and stuff like that.

He's right I meant as a concept not as a travel power. I'm curious about concepts relating super-fast Heroes and villains... an THEN explain to me what powers you put in place to support it. Mine is most likely going to be related to ultra-fast gamma rays, but I want to see what others came up with and what powers you mixed in.
Also as a general concept, what powers available suit a Speedster concept character.
