You mentioned one. It may or may not actually be there in the end. I commented on it. Straw man, I call forth you.

Way to stay on track skippy.

I'm gonna save a bunch of time, at least for myself, and go ahead and say with all sincerity: You win. Your points are valid, numeorus, coherent, on topic, and straight to the point. You are a master debater; one of which I have no business trying to go toe to toe with. In fact, I'd rather discuss the ins and outs of the political spectrum with my 2 year old because maybe then, and only then, would I have a chance in hell of getting any of my points across and maybe mentally chewed on before gut-reaction time.

Touche sir. You play a mean, but fair, word game.

  6. Redraw is my main regarding Dual Pistols. It should totally be for the melee classes IMO.

The other issue is pairing, on top of the redraw. I don't care for most Blaster secondaries in general, the redraw would just compound it; you'd have constant redraw with a corr or Defender as well, but at least with a Corr, you'd have better damage to hopefully lessen the number of times you redraw. *shrug*

RoA and Sleet is my main draw for that combo. Though it'd come kind of later on, not sure if it'd be worth it getting to that point.
  7. I'm far from confused. thankyouverymuch. You're just a liar.

my D3 def, who solos just fine
Now you're just lying Who's killing stuff for you? Fluffy?!?!

If I can't solo 3 or 4 man spawns at even level, at a decent rate of killocity, then that character fails at being a solo character....for me. This is the bare minimum I go by by the time the character is 30.

My Dark/Sonic Defender just barely hits that mark; he's perfectly safe and can stand there all day with groups that size or bigger, it's just the tedium of plinking enough damage. My Ice/Storm Corr was borderline; she had more survivability with *bigger* spawns, but Ice blast, IMO, is just missing some key pieces to really do good damage overall.

On the flip side, if a character can dish out the damage but can't sustain survivability, he also fails; several blasters have fallen to that ploy, before and after being IO'd out. I have only really kept one who can, finally, be on par with some diff settings I have set up for some key scrappers and controllers.

Regardless, I do not plan on using this criteria for this new Defender. He will actively look for teams. On which server remains to be seen though

Good point... Here's a reason you shouldn't make a defender... Vigilance! Recall the Defender LGTF we were on last Saturday, not once did my inherent kick in.
Ya know, other than using the Nuke, this current Defender is never low on endurance anyway, regardless of how the team is going. He runs something like 7 toggles, is constantly attacking, and otherwise debuffing and has almost nothing for IO set bonuses currently. Either the Devs tweaked Vigilance, don't know how it actually works, or this guy is just a god. *shrug* Hell, I was using Dark Consumption as an AoE attack just for the hell of it whenever it recharged.

  11. I will continue to refer to this year as 0-10 as I'm just not ready to so easily give up the 0-number moniker of the early 2000's.

You bandwagon-hopping, pinko commie liberals and your static, boring, hackneyed Twenty Ten scheming makes my blood boil And the New Year's celebration people totally dropped the ball on the glasses as this was the last year they could get the double-0 eye holes in use. Idiots.
  12. But the pretty bows I can pick..........

I do hate redraw. For some reason, I keep thinking it wouldn't be *that* bad. Which means I'm probably subconsciously ignorning facts and it will be awful.

Will have to take a look at psy then, and throw a build together to get an idea.

Thanks for the comments though NONE OF YOU are adhering to the topic of the thread

Whatever you decide to do, I just hope you aren't one of those non-buffing defenders...
Would be my first "buff" defender, as my others were mob-debuff, including Kin (but would speed boost consistently).

I can't stand taking powers I'm not going to use. He'd do his buffing thing when available; gotta do something to break up the piddly damage.

Wouldn't think the redraw of arrow would be too bad, since the buff part would be broken up pretty consistently? Buff first, click debuffs, shoot a bunch of stuff. Next group, click debuffs, shoot....next group, start over? Haven't looked at either build yet, but that's the image I have.

Fixed. Now stop threadjacking. You're dead to me
  15. Dual pistols is out for a defender for me, as I'd prefer it as a Corruptor. Maybe Blaster, but me and Blasters are taking a long break.

No plans for a dual build. I've been around long enough to figure out builds to work, no matter what.
  16. I won't go into CoH lore and history regarding me and Defenders. BUT....Cold buffage is just too damn enticing. I don't need/want another Corruptor as I have plans for another villain or two coming up anyway.

So that leaves either a Defender or Controller. I have, or have played, every control type and about every other combination there is. I don't really want another Controller, though Ice would probably be at the top of the list if I am talked out of what I think I want for a Defender.

I've done most of the Defender attacks except Psy and Arrow to any significant level. I really dislike Ice; Dark really disappointed me; Rad has left a nasty taste in my mouth due to another Defender; Rifle maybe, but really didn't care for it as a Blaster. Sonic is fine, but already have that in a current playable character.

So Cold/Psy or Cold/Arrow. How awful would those combos be? Would primarily be a teamed character, but having some decent soloability would be nice.

    Yes....I'm bored.

That's nice. I also used the word "if". As in, IF that's the reason for GR in the first place....they probably expanded on the idea from there. Doesn't change the fact that for my established characters, it's all it's going to be used for, for the most part.

Gosh, is that one whole power that's new? I'm certainly floored...

Dual pistols have been around since issue 1. Behemoth-type fire demons have been around just as long. I'm very much certain there are new things incoporated, but a lot of it is (just like every other power in the game) is borrowed from here and there.

If you have a complete run down of *actual* information that will be in GR, I'll gladly take a look. As I keep trying to make clear, my opinions are based on what I've actually seen.

#1 Why did I roll him?
#2 What were they drinking when they threw that set together?
Yep. I can farm praetorian bots all day long.

I only rolled it after they did the changes for conserve power and the self heal....was hoping it would fill in the holes. I find it interesting, and assuming you're using Siphon Life, that with an additional heal it's still not better.

Would eagerly switch him to Shield if I could

What primary are you using? So far, only lightning rod is keeping my push to 50. Elec attacks = good. Elec armor = meh. Though I've found him more fun/survivable on teams, regardless of support. The faster stuff dies, the less chance of the mobs having their way with me

As it is the game we play has 3-5 year old tech. GR will upgrade a lot of that starting with a complete gfx upgrade. It also will bridge COH and COV as it has become clear that the hard border between those two splitted the community in two.
Upgrade to what? Just graphics? Ok...my computer won't be using the Ultra features. AI? Hardly. Mechanics? Nope. And if it is merely a bridge between the two, like I've already said, that's not "expansion worthy" to me.

    Quote:
The 2 power sets dual pistols and Demon summoning are actually 2 complete new sets. Not rehashed stuff. The powers are completely new.
My defintion of "completely new" revolves around the idea of *never* seeing it before. From the little I've seen of both, they are taken/borrowed from other powers, mostly from enemies

    Quote:
COV hardly had new NPC groups. GR will be swarmned with reworked/new NPC groups.
Come on. Arachnos? The AVs that were added to other groups. EB class mobs. Various lower level groups. All of that was new to the game and not seen on the hero side, and most STILL can't be found on the hero side.

    Quote:
Also the new zone may well be without any war walls. That is also new tech that maybe reproduced later in the old zones too. A zoneless environment is one of the impossible features we received lately. Like colorisation of powers. Something that was impossible to do before.
None of which as been proven yet. My reaction if it does make it to the game ranges from "meh" to "ok" regardless.

    new costume help

2 cents: Looks like a typical demon. Maybe try adding some detail (that works, not just to have.) Try a different color scheme, or add some "impact" color. The pants/style doesn't do much for me; maybe a different pattern?

<- Doesn't care about costume contests for various reasons. Also doesn't do a lot of costume creations. Once I get something I like that fits the character, I pretty much stick with it. Most characters don't even have more than 2 costumes anyway

Posi has said a lot of things over the years. A lot of those things did not end up the way most "heard", and I'll go ahead and say, presented.

    What does Voodoo want........
    * probably brand new powers and not just re-hashes of various other sets.
    * I'd love a primary/secondary switcharoo for characters through some stellar trial/TF.
    * Actual new missions/scenarios/TFs that I'd actually want to do over and over for a good chunk of time for the 45+ crowd. These get added ever so slowly, but haven't really offered a tremendous amount of replayability for a vast majority.
    * Hamidon-style raids that aren't cut off at the knees due to incredibly low zone limits.
    * More co-op within already established content. It'd be awesome if GR brought this for the already established sides, but I don't believe this to be the case.
    * More QoL for SGs regarding invite/promotion to offline characters. This alone might re-ignite my alt creationism.
    * Do the IoP style SG coaltion raid mechanic right without the stupid power/buff issue/exploit/PvP flaws. I'm thinking the Lord of Winter Realm is a test bed for this, and involving co-op possiblities. Hamidon could EASILY be done the same way.

Level cap increase would do nothing. It's just a number and to do it right, would require more work than most of all the issues we've already gotten. And once the end was hit again (probably within a week or 2 by some), we'd be right back to where we started.

I'm all for the "wait and see" what GR actually provides; but I am going off of what I have actually read for it, and it's just very meh so far. For whatever reason, they haven't gotten a useable build out to beta nearly as early as they should have.

I don't see how you can say we could get a "city" worth of content in a normal issue update.
It's easy. I combine the words "could" "get" "a" "city's" "worth" "of content".

You might be reading into it as "city of hero" or "city of villain", and I probably should have said one *massive* zone for GR. RWZ, Croatoa, Faultline overhaul, Hollows, Roman land: all done within a single Issue Update. I don't see, based on the lack of information (), GR having a "city" consisting of multiple zones (ie Steel, Nirva, Gville, etc). It may or may not, I really haven't been persuaded by the information there is. Does it need it? Yes. Will it be interesting enough? Unknown. Will I be blown away anyway? Doubtful.

Having 1 - 40/50 levels of content within GR really doesn't do anything for me. I have a dirth of 50s already; they will NOT be doing anything other than the 50 content and I doubt they'll be doing it over and over and over. My desire for new characters, regardless of where they level, is at an all time low just in general. If they allow badges to remain on a character that goes through the switching aspect, that is about the only thing I'd be interested in.

As I said, I'm biased against it based on the idea it's being promoted as an expansion that doesn't really consist of an expansion's worth of content.....for me.

Akin to the hardcore people who didn't care about being a "bad guy" when CoV came out; they had no interest in that side whatsoever. CoV, as an expansion, fell on deaf ears.

GR needs to good enough to wow current players, bring back former players, and bring in new ones.
I don't understand any hype behind GR. To me, the way it's been shown (and yes, I know there is a huge lacking in real information), it's just a bridge between the two sides. If that's the *main* purpose of GR, I don't think it can do what's quoted above.

Yes, there might be a "city" worth of content. "New" mobs, which may or may not be just combination of powers/models of existing stuff. 2 new powersets. None of which can't be included in just a normal issue update IMO.

Villains had enough actual new stuff to warrant it as an expansion. So far, GR doesn't even hint at anywhere near that much stuff for a ~$30+ expansion. And thus, I have no hope or hype about it because there just isn't anything to go on; but I can't say I am already down on it either, other than for the lack of information overall.

It feels like, for myself, I already have negative bias for GR based merely on the *idea* that it's an "expansion" that doesn't really feel like a real expansion.
