Objective: 600 +reward merits are available Hero side without repeat. A little over 130 Strike force merits are available Villain side with out repeat.
The Merits awarded in the Statesman task force need to be looked at CLOSELY.
Silver Mantis should be accessible to everyone, not only people with an SG computer.
The system is really lopsided in favor of heroes.
Subjective: Villains should have had the content gap reduced before this system was put into place. As it stands now, I can create a new Hero, and by level 15 have over 100 merits without ever touching a story arc. Villains have no such mechanism. This system was implemented way too soon. -

Congratulations to the new MSTF badges: Hestis & Ivy League Yo. It was a very smooth and relatively quick run for us. I made a conscious effort to push for speed with both the experience on the team and having 5 buffers/debuffers. Our 8th member of the team was Vega Prime who hit 49th midway through the run.
Unfortunately we had to leave out some who wanted to run. Special thanks to those that made room for others.

Missed the screenshot, had an early morning. As soon as recluse went down, so did I.
I had a blast! -

So, have you guys given up on fixing the RSF? That tech has been broken for way too long.

I thought the Hostage was fixed?

I can't seem to find it. Could someone please point me to it if it still exists.
Thanks -

I just love when people assume that forum reg dates are the same as when someone started the game...
That aside, you're still wrong. Stalkers, for example were never nerfed "way back when". But they were buffed...and rather well, at that.
[/ QUOTE ]
IIRC they came in underpowered.
If you want a recent example of the bias PGT villainside.
Not only was it a rapid and major nerf, there was no thought to the need to either rebalance the set or allow people to respec.( Most would probably want to respec out of traps and would probably just delete the chars in disgust, but the principle is the same)
[/ QUOTE ]First things first you are right about how they were underpowered in pve. All the villains ATs came out pre-nerfed when compared to the hero counterparts. Masterminds were the only exception because there were no hero AT equal to them. Aside from stalkers stacking stealth there just really wasnt a single thing that villains did that heroes couldnt do better out of the box. The villain inherrents were tacked on to not make the pre-nerf look so bad. Heroes were all fine without their inherrents villains should have been that way too. If I had done villains I would have made corrupters have way better debuffs than defenders but much weaker buffs and heals. Doms would have had way better control than controllers without domination. Brutes would be alot more tankerish than they are, stalkers would be what they are now and masterminds would have had their epics taliored to fit the their pets. They all would have had a way to combine their pets like voltron or the constructicons.
Now about the PGT, seriously people need to chill with this. That proc thing on PGT was horribly broken and folks need to admit this. I hardly ever talk about saying something needs to be nerfed. I am in fact very anti-nerf, but the PGT thing was insane. Traps is fine after this. The range thing on the trip mines was a bug and is fixed now no one needs to be [censored] about traps.

Enough to cancel my second account over a PvE nerf to a powerset due to PvP IO builds. If a power is changed due to IO builds, guess what.. that's balancing the power around the IO build, not the SO one.

Out of curiosity, what change was that?

So you'll get your 100 merits, but miss other content along the way including the awesome Faultline arcs.
[/ QUOTE ]
So I'll get 100 merits and 9-10 levels of exp, at the cost of skipping arcs that I can go back and do for merits later and dealing with CoT, Vahz, and Clockwork - all of which are really fun to confuse?
I'm not seeing how gaining even more levels is a problem, here.
[/ QUOTE ]
Or You could run Posi, go to Faultline, then run Synapse.
[ QUOTE ]
A: We will be monitoring this. We want to make sure that a villain doing missions from 1 to 50 will be earning roughly the same amount of merits a hero can earn. If we find a serious imbalance between heroes and villains in the number of earnable merits, well look at ways of improving this.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yo Synapse, no need to monitor. Heroes have a HUGE advantage. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Not only that, a hero can run Positron TF at level 10 and get 55 merits. Then Synapse at 15 and get 45 for a total of 100 TF merits. A young villain has the opportunity to get a whopping 10 SF merits by level 15.
That is absurd.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree with your basic point (heroes have more low level opportunities for big merits), but realistically with the way exp works now, doing Positron normally (i.e. in a group actually running the TF) will level you to 15 and doing Synapse will get you to 19-20.
So you'll get your 100 merits, but miss other content along the way including the awesome Faultline arcs.
[/ QUOTE ]
So, you could run flashbacks and get even more merits.
This system is penalizing villains for the mistakes of the previous administration. -

I'm sorry, but will you guys ever discuss the disparity? I'm hearing Dr Q is down to under an hour now.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Let me ask this, has it been said if they gave a reason as to why the contacts dont display how many merits their arc/tf is going to give? That would have made making this list alot easier.
[/ QUOTE ]
I would guess the answer to this is so that they can change them whenever they feel like it. -
[ QUOTE ]
Villain strike forces were designed to take less time in reaction to the fact that datamining hero tfs proved they were 'bad' in part due to their length. Essentially, when CoV was being designed, devs consciously forced the villain side to not have any 'bad' tfs, which the merit system is now effectively claiming are no longer 'bad'. The cumulative effect is that this aspect of the merit system is exactly a punishment of villains.

Q: Why is it that the Villain side SF payout is way less than Hero side TF payout? I feel that as a villain I'm being punished.
A: On average Villain Strike Forces take significantly less time to complete when compared to Hero Task Forces. Since time is the major factor when determining the number of Merits a task gives upon completion Villains on average receive less Merits per task, but roughly the same Merits per hour.
[/ QUOTE ]
A follow-up to this question is required. Have you considered the 24 hour timer in this? Consider a villain that does a task force every night at the same time, consider a hero that also does a task force every night at the same time .Or every other night, what ever. So long as they both complete the same number of TFs over the same suitably long time span.
The hero has the ability to earn 40, 50, or even 90 merits per 24 hour period.
The villain can only earn 35 in that same period.
Will anything be done to address this? Or am I oversimplifying the dimishing returns on the 24 hour drop window?
[/ QUOTE ]
You are over simplfying, it a per character and PER TASK.
So in the time it takes a hero to run Doc Q for those 90 the villan could run 2-3 seperate TFs
[/ QUOTE ]
And still end up 5 merits short. -

Hmm... what's Numina's Unique?
As a casual gamer, why would I only run Positron?
I'm a casual gamer, if I really want that unique, then I will just be saving to get it but it won't become the central focus of my life.
I like this game because I don't have to have the absolute best stuff to be able do some of the harder/cooler content.
I like WoW as well as this game but with WoW, I know I will never get to do the super dungeons because I'm just not dead set on collecting 'uber' gear.
I HATE Final Fantasy XI because EVERYTHING is completely set on the stuff you have and if you don't have it, you 'ARE' dead.
Say I can run Positron... twice a week because of a 3/4 hour peirod of time, all the other time is generaly an hour to 90 minutes a day.
How long would it take me to get 250 merits considering that in all that other time I would be playing the rest of the game?
And I'm serious, what is Numina's Unique?
[/ QUOTE ]
I really don't know what to say.

Q: Will villains get more villain only options for earning chunks of merits to balance out the larger number of hero trials and TFs?
A: We will be monitoring this. We want to make sure that a villain doing missions from 1 to 50 will be earning roughly the same amount of merits a hero can earn. If we find a serious imbalance between heroes and villains in the number of earnable merits, well look at ways of improving this.

For what length of time will you be "monitoring" it? Will it be the same amout of time that PPP's were "monitored" and "evaluated", or as long as the markets are being "evaluated"? In both cases, that "evaluation" has gone on entirely too long.
Come on 650 - 160 is a huge gap. Story arcs will not make up for that. -

Wow! I love the new website. It's so cool.
A question though: the www.cityofvillains.com/ site currently redirects to the main CoH site, will there eventually be a CoV site again?

The main website covers both aspects of the game. We've given anyone who ever had access to both sides, so they are both sides to the same coin that is the City of Heroes franchise.

I hope you guys still allow for red viewing, and not just blue. GW is easier on the eyes than Posi.

So no buster badge this year? and it's ok that we wait another year to get it because an event was released that obviously isn't working as intended?
Well I want compensation! for the time I payed for and wasted trying to get something that was advertised as working, and is obviously broken.
This years event was all "hey, we love you so much where giving it to you early!!!! . . . . . Oh but half of it doesn't work, never mind, just finish it next year, have fun!!"
It's about the principle of it all, I've never been annoyed with the developers of this game, not in 4 years but this is just a total mess, so many problems have been ignored before releasing this event and that is a real shame.
This years halloween event = Fail
[/ QUOTE ]
ONE badge not being able to be collected properly is half? Let me check my math: 1/15 = .5 ...Nope, it seems fine.
(If you include Jack, then it would be TWO whole badges. 15 of course is the number of Halloween badges.)
If you are refering to the slightly botched Invasion schedule, then, well, you have a bit more of a point... but not much. The event, as far as I can tell, does work, it does appear. Maybe not as often as intended in certain areas, but it does work and you can indeed experience it.
[/ QUOTE ]
The Zombie invasion has 4. That's not working right.
Ghosts and Jack. That's 2 more not working right
That gives me a total of 6.
Add that up over multiple characters, and we are talking about a lot of badges. -
I noticed last night on Protector that there were frequent notices of Hero Zone invasions, but none for Villain zones. I have a tab setup for Event, Hero zone event, and Villain Zone event messages only. I saw quite invasions happening in Striga, Talos, Bricks, then I saw Miner's Strike has begun in Sharkhead. A few minutes later, I saw "The zombies have retreated from Sharkhead" It happened more than once over the three hours that I was on last night.
