Quote:Looks like he's starting a forum discussion to get his answers.So... is there an actual question you'd like to ask or are you just commenting?
Do you have an actual contribution, or are you just being rude?
I was also surprised when I came back to find all the servers still there. Most games would have combined them by now. Probably another one of CoH's 'technical limitations'.
I highly recommend Virtue.
I have recently returned and originally started up on Freedom and Virtue because that's where the population was. Virtue is so much better at low levels it's like night and day. The role players can make things... interesting... at times but generally I have a much better experience there than on freedom.
Granted I'm still low on all my characters. I really enjoy the new DFB instance and what it adds to the game (starting with SO's) so I'm making all my characters I want to do and getting them all to 28-32 with DFB and so far I'm having a blast.
I tend to run my own groups and pull in lots of random people from bored lv50's to mid levels that have been LFT for too long, and of course free playing noobs. After around seventy DFB runs I can say with credibility and without malice, that the population on Virtue is noticeably better behaved, more pleasant, and game competent overall in that bracket. -
HAH!
I found a character at 2,890 iirc and thought about making this same kind of thread.
Can't hold a candle to 4,439... -
Quote:You bought something you didn't understand.1) This is something I paid actual money out of pocket for.
2) There is no information you can get out of the Email UI to describe what it exactly is (and warn that it is character bound). The only information you can access is the name of the item, and how many you can claim.
Then you claimed something you didn't understand.
Then found it to be useless and unable to be traded.
This is clearly someone else's fault!
I agree with the feedback 100% the super pack items should all have info clicks, but not the tone of the original post like we're entitled to this or it was some kind of transgression by the developers. Reasonable people don't buy things they don't understand in the first place, or they buy things experimentally to understand them and it's not a 'loss' when it's useless or they get bad results because they learn.
And yes, technically you stuck disclaimers everywhere about how you accept your loss but you also stuck jabs in with all those disclaimers. 'Like I have a choice...' -
Playing with mids at work, trying to make a build for my spider and this little gem of a set keeps coming up. It goes in tons of powers, helps cover my AoE and KB gaps, only takes three slots, and slotting it improves the travel powers! Plus it's an unusual increase number. The only other set using it relevant to my build is Miracle, so I could potentially throw this in FOUR travel powers. Since I'm positional defense I have Hover, CJ, my actual travel power, plus potentially recall friend or something.
I'm just looking to find out what the catch is before I call my build done, done, done.
Paragonwiki doesn't show any way to buy it with the various kinds of reward tokens. Is this some kind of super rare drop? Cost a bagillion influence at the desk? Use a salvage item that only drops from Hamidon's big bad older brother? -
Still, you have to go the other way, too. Is anyone 'tech' at all? I've never read or seen a story with someone who was 100% tech. Tony Stark for example INVENTED his suit and won his battles just as much with quick thinking and understanding of what was going on. Note that the other guy with military backing in the better armed and armored suit is his side kick.

Quote:So in your world, only people who punch things in the face are natural?
Robin Hood used a bow, he's tech? Musashi used a sword, he's tech? Batman uses gadgets, he's tech?
That's a sad world to live in where people whose immense skill with an item (or multiple items) renders them "not natural".
No. In his world gaining your advantage from technology makes you a tech origin. If CoH took place in the Star Trek universe The Doctor would roll his eyes at your primitive energy weapons and assault rifles. Many of our 'tech' origins would naturally slide down to natural.
Musashi wouldn't be 'tech' because he won with skill, regardless of how well crafted his weapon was. The other guy could still block it, it wasn't a light saber. Billy the Kid may have had advanced tech compared to black powder muzzle loaders, inferior quality pistols, etc. He COULD be tech if that's how he won fights but I don't think that's what the legend says. I think the legend is more about his own human speed. -
wat...
I guess it's true. I haven't seen a bus since launch either, but I can't say I've missed them. /sign would depend on WHO has to make the bus. There are much better things for the good Dink to be doing! -
Probably should have just called this a general spider build thread.
There are just way too many powers in here
3 Leaping
3 Fighting
4 leadership (manevuersx2, assaultx2)
3 Area attacks (Nades and Suppression)
4 Channel Gun and Melee (I like Channel Gun...)
1 Omega Maneuver
3 Defense Fortification, mental training, combat training: Defensive.
1 Automatic lv1 pick: Crab Spider Armor Upgrade.
All that leaves only 2 picks, and I really hate missing. I'd like to get at least one accuracy buff power in there, and I should probably take Serum as an "oh shi-" button.
Looking for feedback on the first post and any insights about powers that aren't as useful as they appear. I notice lots of builds drop Frag Grenade, but I don't see a reason for that. Heavy burst is 100% lethal and lower damage so I ruled that out long ago, but I'd like to keep frag I think. -
Tactical Training: Offensive
Tactical Training: Leadership
Pool Leadership: Tactics
All three? Two?
Which ones?
Why?
Wolf Spider Armor
Crab Spider Armor Upgrade
Both?
-P.S.
Sub Lv50 sets still give set bonuses at 50 right?
It's only if you EXEMPLAR that you lose them...
So I could still use Steadfast Protection in a 50 build, yeah? -
I think the Fortunata Widow is the closest thing to what I'm describing. Dominate, Subdue (Widow Subdue > Blaster Subdue) and Mental blast form a nice attack chain. less damage than a blaster and no self healing, but she'd be running double assault so the gap isn't too terrible, and she'd have WAAAYYY more defense potential.
My Fortunata is only 25, and I'm trying to narrow down my list of characters. Started way too many when I returned lol. It's either widow or dark/mind. Really prefer the style of dark/mind and the self heal, but I don't want to be useless and I know 6x leadership and AE control on the widow will always be worth something. -
I don't know if they changed it, or I just misunderstood long long ago and never looked into it again, but I realized today that Dark Blast's Abyssal Gaze and Life drain are actually very worthwhile single target attacks! I had always thought of them as being like bean bag, just fluffy semi-controller type deals. Turns out they are a solid three attack combo. I also like the 'new' mental manipulation set, world of confusion looks fun!
Single target blaster that life drains rather quickly and runs a defensive aura.
(The info when building the character says World of Confusion doesn't even draw aggro!?)
So I started playing with mids, and I realized you can actually get every single damage bonus possible, on a dark/mind blaster. Five two percents, five two point five percents, five three percents, and all three of the four percent set bonuses. (+46.5% damage to all. O.O), oh... and I picked up assault...
Very interested in this character on paper, but as I browse the forums there's a lot of buzz about blasters soft capping defenses/resists. With Charged Armor I can make a decent showing on smash/lethal but that's about it, and her area damage is just about non-existent while everyone in atlas is doing AE/farms and huge mobs of enemies. Thus my question: Is it worth it to go for a single target kill specialist, or would it end up useless?
EDIT---
Actually I went with Fly and Teleport for flavor. I could drop one and get my hands on tough, as well. Not well slotted, but the two of them put me at better smash/lethal than just Charged Armor. -
Yuck I see the clipping issues you mentioned a lot clearer on the paragonwiki page (Which I checked, but they weren't listed on their weapon customization page.) Probably skip those. It would bug me seeing them come through my thumb the whole time.
-
Done individually please... I would really like to be able to do more asymetrical shoulders. The WH40K space marine look is pretty well tied to them at this point I think, but it's a great big smooth canvas for customization. You can have an intricate character with lots of colors but still throw your favorites up big and smooth with those armored shoulders.

Quote:/e dance5Would you guys really like Flight-Only as an option for path auras? There are so few that I think I could look into this.

It was suggested in another thread, that a Dinosaur/jungle area might be coming down the line. A player speculated this based on remembering a dev quote about needing four legged rigs for dinosaurs, and such a zone is a very common comic book standard which CoH/V is missing.
My own avatar is from art of when Wolverine went back in time... the blood on the claw is from a T-Rex.
Which is dead, and he is sitting on it. :P -
I played a FF/Energy and a Storm/AR in the early game and I find it's more about drama than any given game play mechanic.
It's not that 'oh they were knocked back' that leads to the problem, it's the OTHER GUY who says 'oh well if you wait for immobilzation...' and the argument that follows.
It's not 'oh they don't attack when they're flying around!' it's the OTHER GUY who says 'but I have -rech on them anyway, they still fire off attacks when they land...' and the argument that follows.
I still love storm, and I will gladly flip the bird at anyone who doesn't like my builds or characters, but I don't play storm because my middle finger gets so tired. :/ -
Quote:Thanks... do you have one of them in-game though?
-
Could someone post a pic of these, please? Google results show the splash screen so I have a general idea, but I'd like to see them in game.
-
I don't like his list because a lot of them really don't fit the archetypes missing the power sets.
A regen character can't really be a Tank... The whole point of a 'TANK' archetype just doesn't go with being hurt all the time. Same with Brutes and MA. The two don't fit. If you're doing martial arts there's too much finesse in that to call it 'brutish'. Even the meanest martial arts villains would be tanks or scrappers, IMHO. -
Quote:I don't want to derail, but the way I read the first post you basically say you like the idea of a corruptor but hate corruptors and want to play one like it's not a corruptor.Since the day I heard about them, I liked the idea of corruptors. I've always loved blasters, and been annoyed by their squishiness. The idea of trading in my (largely useless) manipulation secondary for a nice support secondary to help keep me alive has always been attractive to me.
In practice though, I've never liked them for some reason. A lot of the support sets don't fit my playstyle well. I mostly play on medium to large teams, and constantly healing people or putting shields up on them bugs the crap out of me. I love kinetics (I've got a couple of /kin controllers) but I don't like playing up in melee with a corruptor. And every time I try to play one, every time I attack I keep saying to myself 'if this was a blaster, i'd be doing so much more damage'.
Quote:So I come to you, the forumites, with the hopes that someone can suggest something for me to try that I'd like. I WANT to like corruptors, I just don't seem to be able to. I want something that is near blaster levels of damage, but more survivable, and doesn't focus heavily on buffing or healing. Does such a thing exist?
Faililng that, I second traps.
Drop FFGenerator and acid mortar then blast away. -
Quote:Kicks and giggles: Maybe you're bored, maybe you enjoy a challenge or maybe you just enjoy fighting. You do evil not because you necessarily want to be evil or even because there's anything to gain, but just for your own personal entertainment.
Sorry to jump on the bandwagon like this, but the whole Dark Knight's Joker and Captain Jack Sparrow theme is just awesome. The idea of a character that 'just wants to watch the world burn' because it's awesome and fun is something a lot of people have always liked, but is difficult to explore because it is an inherently shallow motivation that is best suited to action adventure movies.
This is what I make my one villain around, which I chose kinetics for. A very active, colorful set that keeps you moving and keeps the team moving. -
Quote:You already emphasized the biggest issue I always bring up when people suggest weapon sets for Doms (which most people fail to realize when proposing weapon sets for doms). Since redraw on doms would easily be more debilitating than it is for any other AT, even extreme cases like Kin corrs, because you pretty much /need/ to intertwine your primary and secondary together to be most effective as a dom.
Basically if they did a weapon set for doms the redraw would have to be cut to an absolute minimum as you mentioned or be absolutely beastly to make up for it.
Pretty good write-up.
Yeah that's actually where I started.
I like weapons on my characters and it was clear why doms didn't have any options, so I thought to myself what kind of weapon goes ranged AND melee and is FAST? And I thought of pirates and musketeers.
