AH. Totally wasn't thinking about that.
Thanks! -
Right, I get that...
Sorry, I'm working, and may not be writing clearly.
What makes SS connect better than something a little more exotic and less-often resisted, like dark or energy? -
Serious question to follow. No sarcasm/flaming required.

You need SuperStrength on your tank for Zone PVP.
Otherwise you'll never land a single blow on the Legions of VEATS you'll be facing from the Villain Side.

Why? -
Uninvited, just busting in.
Gotta say, though, I agree with this. I may number myself among the throngs of adoring Acolytes of Arcanaville, but (to paraphrase Joe Morrisey) NCNC is 80 people trying to out-think a couple hundred thousand of smart (devious?) players.
Regarding a major release, conventional thinking - regardless of how brilliant - has to be back-burnered eventually to allow for wild-and-illogical, no-math-required-to-break-stuff play-testing by "regular" people. -
What Wassy said. Word for word!
I LOVE moody dark pieces, but am currently up-to-my-ears busy...
Fortunately, there are a HOST of really spectacular artists serving the City. I'm 100% positive you'll find what you're looking for.
If you don't mind the wait, you can always hop on the HPS After-Hiatus-Reservation list! -
Awesome info for us Blueside types!!!
Well done! -
LOL!
It was all going so well until the end...
Still, it's not the destination, but the journey that counts. We try to make the journey worthwhile!
Was hoping I could snag you again! Hopefully, we'll hook it up next time. :-) -
We still have a few slots available!

THAT'S RIGHT young man!
***GUARDIAN!***
Where all your dreams can be made into shiny and fat-free REALITY!
-On Guardian, there was never a Bush Administration!
-On Guardian, Nemesis doesn't plot... he KNITS!
-On Guardian, Uwe Boll is a short-order fry chef, and Dark_Respite is Steven Spielberg!
And the BEST PART? Today through Forever, we've slashed Guardian prices to the bone! You can now have that same winning Guardian experience we all know and enjoy for the same price as rolling a toon on Freedom!
Of course, if you're not "into" ThunderClapSuperCool flavored Ice Cream COVERED in Awesomesauce, then Guardian might not be for you...
But don't take MY word for it!
YOU BE THE JUDGE!!!
-
No no no.
You did it wrong, TA. It's supposed to be:
Wha?? GUARDIAN?!?!?! -
... THIS is your big chance.

I tried DAZ 2 or 3 years ago, but it was really wonky on my Mac. REALLY wonky! Would this be a newer version, perchance? Maybe a little happier with OS X?

I use Poser 7 for core rendering, Wassy. But you can has arts with DazStudio as well!
I run OSX, and have started playing with the newest iteration of the free program. It's not NEARLY as unstable as it used to be... which was a huge turn-off. The primary issue now is that if you have content compiled for Poser, it does NOT automatically work in DazStudio. Unless said content has DS-specific CR2s, you'll have to build what you want in Poser, then export it as an object file, then import it into DS.
DS SHOULD import Poser files directly, but that feature - after many attempts - seems to only work-as-advertised OCCASIONALLY. Importing objects always seems easier, if not faster.
The big plus for DazStudio would be the inexpensive 3rd-party tools and content developed specifically for the program, and offered through the Daz website. Some of it is really cool, easy to use, and exclusive to DS.
As Doug stated, although it's come a long way over the past year-odd, DS is still PoserLite; but it's not a bad item to pick up if you want to test-drive a Poser-ish 3D scene set-up program without diving full-bore into the Poser microverse.
Hope that helped. :-) -

Computer programs don't make art - people do.

Amen and amen. -
Freaking GORGEOUS.
Great to see you back... and jealous that you are better than ever! :-) -
LOVE this design.
Efficient, and direct, very classy. The copper hue on the visor REALLY pops! The design speaks to the function and person of the charcter herself, which is just brilliant. No mistaking what she does after just one look at her.
Considering how clean the costume is, I may have gone for something of a less-busy symbol on the shield... but (to your credit) it still looks quite good.
Well done, Rachel! -

EXAMPLE ONE ... EXAMPLE TWO ... EXAMPLE THREE -
Thanks Red!
TA kept telling me to do just that... I never seem to have the time, and when I do (like now) I just get lazy and de-prioritize it.
...because I'm kind of 'tarded occasionally!
But I will make it a point to do just that. And it'll be awesome. And TA will say "I told you so!" -
Hey -
I remember you! Welcome back!
Gearing up for I-14, or did you just miss TA and the Art Crew? -
Hi there!
So, hey... Been working with some REALLY GREAT folks the past few months, and getting to play around with some of their fantastic characters. I'd love to share them with you.
So instead of clicking thru a bunch of single links, just click over to the HPS dA showcase, and browse the Most Recent gallery to check out any art you may have missed!
the Hero Portrait Studio deviantART Showcase page is right here!
Also, if you haven't heard, I am currently producing a 5-issue mini-series for notable indy comics publisher Antarctic Press called "the OMEGA quin." I'll be writing and co-illustrating, leaving the heavy art-lifting to my brother Chris (Warrior Nun, FemmeForce, Obama) Allen. First issue should ship in June. We're really excited about it. If you're interested, check out some of the pre-production art at our humble little networking page.
And finally, due to the production demands and TIGHT solicitation deadlines for the first two issues of the comic, the HPS is going on a brief hiatus through the end of April... We still have a few jobs in the queue, and those will be produced as normal.
But we won't be taking any more active commissions during the break.
Whew!
That's it for now. Thanks for checking us out, and have fun out there! See you all soon - especially all you Guardianites - in the steel canyons of the City of Heroes! -
I've got a sec to chime in (for a change!) Let's call on some great stylists, shall we?
Comics/Manga: Adam Hughes & Terry Dodson; Jim Lee, George Perez & Steven Platt; Masumane Shirow; Neal Adams & Brian Hitch; Moebius; Serpieri & Milo Manara... man I could just go on and on. SO many great stylists working out there.
Painters: Michael Whelan, Varga, Alex Ross, Brom, Luis Royo, & Cos Koniotis. These are my go-to guys when I'm trying to solve a problem.
Anime: I like a good anime as much as the next guy, but it largely feels like its all variations on the same set of visual cues... As cool a story as "Elfen Lied" is, the actual art is often pretty derivative. Even "Bleach" fails this test.
I've seen one VERY notable exception to this:
ERGO PROXY.
Sure, the story sputters into flailing crap during the last episode, but the LOOK of the thing is just tremendous. Talk about STYLE! If you haven't seen it, and you're into great visuals, give it a shot. (But try not to get too invested in the story... I promise you'll just end up disappointed!)
Favorite art style of all time? Can I cheat a little here? Because the style and the artist are one-and-the-same: Gustave Dore.
Never heard of him? Wikipedia is your friend. :-) -
Well, you seem to be well on your way. :-)
-
Yeah.
I'm pretty good, but I'm not THAT good!!! :-) -
Your stuff looks good!
I'll offer one tiny bit of unsolicited advice: When it comes to digital art, relying on one piece of software will severely limit how fully you are able to realize your vision.
Digital art tools will never be as intuitive as "analog" pens and brushes; so as artists we have to find ways to make the digital stuff work for us as 'naturally' for us as possible.
It looks like you do photography as well... I'll bet you could find some really amazing art in the territory between 3D and photography.
Of course, I could be 100% wrong and 1000% out of line. So apologies in advance.
Otherwise, keep up the good work, and have merry... uh, Holiday!
